Jayhawks starting just like Badgers did today.

KU vs Trees: Revengeance • Dec 03, 2016 08:46 PM

Didn't this Stanford team beat us a few years back?

KU vs Trees: Revengeance • Dec 03, 2016 08:41 PM

Didn't Haase transfer to KU from somewhere? Cal? NW?

KU vs Trees: Revengeance • Dec 03, 2016 08:31 PM

Not to steal anyone's thunder but a lot of us used to hang out with JNewell and his live blog/chat is on kuhoops now.

kENTUCKY/LOL • Dec 03, 2016 07:52 PM

Big day for good games hoops and pigskin.

kENTUCKY/LOL • Dec 03, 2016 07:46 PM

@wissox Beddie said "Huge win for UCLA"

kENTUCKY/LOL • Dec 03, 2016 07:46 PM

I thought ya'll said UCLA won

kENTUCKY/LOL • Dec 03, 2016 07:41 PM

Badgers by 17. This is starting to look like OU-Nova!

kENTUCKY/LOL • Dec 03, 2016 07:37 PM

@wissox I mean Kentucky's ken pom SOS

kENTUCKY/LOL • Dec 03, 2016 07:36 PM

UCLA's Kenpom schedule strength of 275 might be why they're ranked #1?

kENTUCKY/LOL • Dec 03, 2016 07:34 PM

Badgers by 9

kENTUCKY/LOL • Dec 03, 2016 07:23 PM

ONe ref just called a charge on OU, the other called a block on UW. They charged both players with a foul and alternated possession. Never seen that before. Pretty obvious charge to me of course.

kENTUCKY/LOL • Dec 03, 2016 07:12 PM

@BeddieKU23 He and Happ had their hand on a ball, but Lattins arm pinned down Happs and he wouldn't let go so Happ gave a little shove to get free and Lattin threw his arms up like he'd been hit by William Perry.

kENTUCKY/LOL • Dec 03, 2016 07:06 PM

Did you all see Lattin's standing flop? Lost all respect for him after that move.

kENTUCKY/LOL • Dec 03, 2016 06:57 PM

@BShark Whatchu talkin about willis?

@ralster We've seen some good stuff from Coleby. Just needs more time it looks like to get up to game speed.

@ralster Villanova player?

Whatever happened to Selby? Could have used him against VCU for sure.

I spent the offseason worrying (only in a sports sense) that our team was going to have a lack of a strong inside game. I can't wrap my mind around winning the whole thing without a reliable post scorer and defender. I was listening to @Jesse-Newell's excellent podcast yesterday discussing the team. He was talking about how we actually are taking more shots at the rim than a few years, mainly because of our driving guards I suppose, but also discussed the lack of productivity, particularly from Bragg.

Doke has surprised me a bit. The first game he looked so raw that I didn't think he'd see the court much. But he has a ball hawking mentality that is fascinating to watch. But once he chases it down, well it's an adventure from there. And if teams just figure they'll foul him down low, well, we won't get much there. He's shooting 33% from the line. And he fouls a lot.

Landen has obviously had a slow start. Foot issues may be responsible. Fouling is a major problem. 22 fouls thus far. Last year when given a confidence boost by the players he became a key component to our drive towards glory. Will the same happen again? I believe he is going to have to recover that February and March mojo for this championship to happen.

And speaking of fouls, the foul rate of our bigs is alarming. Jesse mentioned LIghtfoot averaging 13 fouls per 40 minutes! Dokes and Braggs are up there too.

I could have titled this a different way. Can we win a national championship with a small lineup? It's well documented about what a high level our guards are playing at. On April the 4th or whenever the actual date is, can we hear a starting a lineup announced of JJ, DG, Frank, Vick and Landen? Svi, Bragg, Doke off the bench? Can those guys cut down the nets? That's my question.

Royals • Dec 02, 2016 11:44 PM

@globaljaybird I'd be ok with a Sale trade provided it fills some holes with guaranteed young prospects.

Big weekend in college hoops • Dec 02, 2016 10:05 PM

Wisconsin plays Oklahoma in Madison at 12:30 on btn. Looking forward to both games tomorrow afternoon!

Does Racism Exist On The Court? • Dec 02, 2016 05:54 PM

I remember the time our inner city, 9th ward New Orleans high school went out to the burbs to play 20,000 a year tuition Country Day and led by 10 at the half, this against a team that would finish 2nd in the state. 2 minutes into the 2nd half and Country Day was shooting 1 and 1's. It'd taken all of 2 minutes for the officials to put them in the bonus. That was racism on the court.

Another time, playing a team we'd waxed in a tournament by 20, playing at their gym, with their 15,000 a year tuition paying parents on hand, and one of our guys got T-d up. The ref told our coach that our kid gave him a look so he T-d him up. That and about 10 other calls made sure the rich kids won. That was racism on the court.

That same school a 'Christian school' hosted us in football a year later. It hadn't rained in a month, but that Friday night our team on the sideline and coaches of course had to stand in 2 inches of mud because the Christian school had made sure to overwater the grass just on our sideline. That was racism on the field. We overcame and beat them anyways.

Unfortunately it exists in all kinds of ways. @drgnslayr you opened up an old wound with your Duke Badgers reference. Well for 10-15 years now I've been hearing how incredible it is what UW has done because they're not athletic. It's kind of code language for there's too many white kids on the team to be very good. A team of non-athletic kids beats 38-0 Kentucky without athletic kids? Preposterous!

Still waiting for the day when we're judged on the content of our character and not the color of our skin.

kENTUCKY/LOL • Dec 01, 2016 05:35 PM

Kentucky is in a lot of our heads. Same with Duke. Me personally, I wouldn't spend a second reading the Kentucky versions of our KUBuckets.

In 1986 KU played fellow final four team Louisville two times in the regular season.

Who gets an interview first? • Dec 01, 2016 04:03 PM

It's always an interesting question when you look at Helfrich. His team played for a national championship. Of course that was with Kelly's players I assume. Bruce Weber did the same thing at Illinois, but ultimately has proved to be not up to high level coaching.

As for who gets interviewed first? Not a clue! I couldn't have told you the Oregon coaches name until you wrote it here so I'm probably not best qualified to answer.

@wrwlumpy And in the fields just beyond campus, empty space. I understand Cali's wacky laws prevent urban sprawl (understandable a little bit) by making some lands off limits for building. Of course the result of this is astronomical real estate.

Thoughts from the game • Nov 30, 2016 05:24 PM

We were playing the minor league team last night. The big league teams are coming. It's all fun and good to watch us dismantle a LBSU because even there it shows how good we are. But, let's get back to playing teams with solid interior D and watch our guards carry us past our interior deficiencies.

Some people called me out for my wait and see comments about JJ before the season started. Well, I'm starting to see and believe. The young man is fabulous.

Vick '16 = McLemore @ KU • Nov 30, 2016 05:17 PM

@chriz Not even close in my view. BMac was a 1st rounder after his 1st season, 2nd on campus. Vick isn't even a starter. BMac was one of our best players that season if not best.

KU vs LBSU • Nov 30, 2016 04:23 AM

Coached a soccer game where we choked up a lead. Came home to the DVR of UW blasting babyheim and Sorrycuse, finished that off and started the ESPN3 of the KU game. Fun game. 2nd half a little ragged. 1st half beautiful after we realized we were better than them. Wishing Alvarez and Zenger would coordinate schedules for me a little better!

@Crimsonorblue22 I remember too well. We don't have too many AFH beatdowns, but that was definitely one of them.

Interesting memory of a bad night in AFH

What about Danny Manning? I click the links and it shows John Collins.

Embiid and JJ? • Nov 29, 2016 03:36 AM

I listened to @Jesse-Newell's podcast tonight and he called Josh the best freshman Self has had. He's doing amazing things. Whoever is drafting first better grab this kid!

If I Were In Charge At Misery • Nov 29, 2016 03:35 AM

Ouch, that's not even a last second loss. That's a blowout! It's a reason why we all were thankful on thanksgiving we didn't attend that school!

Question • Nov 28, 2016 11:45 PM

@jayballer54 I decided to look at up, it's not quite 20 years. He started 03-04 season. Had 4 really rough seasons and has made the dance 6 times with 2 elite 8's and a sweet 16 since 2007-08.

Question • Nov 28, 2016 10:41 PM

@Kcmatt7 I'm not an expert on coaching, and really not qualified to seriously judge Scott Drew's coaching ability, so my comment was a little snarky. So would it be safe to say that Scott is a great recruiter? I've always thought he was anyways. I've always been of the impression that talent is responsible for their relative success more than his coaching.

I do admit that Scott has turned Baylor into kind of a Wisconsin of the south. Longtime laughingstock turned into something respectable. I remember with great shock the first time they beat us down in Waco (sometime around the early 2000's) and just being in shock we'd lost to Baylor. Not even sure if Scott was coaching Baylor then, may have been the guy who lost control in a bad way, Bliss I think?

So anyways, yes, Scott has done some good things, thanks @justanotherfan for pointing out the same.

Question • Nov 28, 2016 06:30 PM

But as I recall Baylor has a coach who looks like a deer in the headlights any time he plays us or other top notch competition.

Memphis' pyramid arena is now an Bass Pro Shop. Very cool interior.

Im stealing this from Jesse Newell • Nov 27, 2016 03:55 AM

@Lulufulu Pierce was 10 pts, about 5 boards, 2 assists. Not bad, but not AA type stats. Danny was 14.6, almost 8 boards, 3 assists. Nice numbers indeed! Wiggs was 17, 5 and 1.

Ah, and rereading, I was thinking JNew meant most exciting freshman!

Im stealing this from Jesse Newell • Nov 27, 2016 01:54 AM

@Lulufulu Not sure if I'd say Pierce because I don't think he was doing what Josh is doing as a freshman. My thought was since Danny M.

Udunka Very Mucho • Nov 27, 2016 01:52 AM

@Lulufulu I agree with the 5-1 statement. I figured the opposite would happen with us beating Indy and losing to Duke.

Udunka Very Mucho • Nov 26, 2016 05:43 AM

Not sure if anyone kept track of dunks, but we may have set a school record!

Interestingly, and I know this is not news to you, we start four guards, and have numerous dunks.

Eye popping stats tonight, even if it was against a poor team like UNCAsheville. 3 pt %, Vick 9 RB's, Frank 5-5 on 3's.

And we'd have been over, or very close to 100 points if we hadn't missed more than 50% of our FT's again.

It was a pleasure watching young Mr. Jackson and old Mr. Graham combine for 18 assists.

Mason's brilliance was somewhat overshadowed by the performances of Jackson, and Udunka. And by the fact that he's been doing this night in and night out, in different time zones yet.

Udunka's points came against a pretty bad defensive team in my view, so I'll temper my enthusiasm with the knowledge that much tougher tests are coming.

I wish these guys would stop hanging on the rim. I do some reffing, I'd T them up!

A month into the season, we're sitting about where most of us thought we would be I'd guess. Maybe I'm wrong. I figured we'd lose one of the two tough games. How about you, are we about where you thought we'd be?

If that's the 55th SOS, who's higher?

My KU Friends • Nov 24, 2016 02:34 PM

@nitwit Oh, you had to go and ruin the good mood!

My KU Friends • Nov 24, 2016 01:29 PM

Thanks Mr. Jayballer! Thankful for you, and all the rest here for adding to the spice of life!

Indiana Is Trying to Sabotage KU's RPI • Nov 23, 2016 09:29 PM

@BShark I would enjoy us going to Wichita because it would be a talked about and anticipated game. I'd also enjoy them coming to us. I'd much rather watch us play them than our next opponent UNC Asheville.

Isn't Cat out in Peoria? They should be inducted just on the basis of their arena, a classic! War Mermorial Colleseum. Used to house the Fort Wayne NBA team.

Indiana Is Trying to Sabotage KU's RPI • Nov 23, 2016 05:39 PM

Nice article here about Indiana going to Fort Wayne. Mastadon coach sounds like a class act.

KU/GEORGIA GAME CHAT • Nov 23, 2016 05:05 PM

I never fell asleep during a KU game until last night. I woke up, wondered why they were talking about football during the KU game, looked at my laptop, you were all speaking about the game. Did we win? Smiley face.

@kjayhawks Why will Vick and Svi come around? I think at this point we can hope, and they haven't been bad by any stretch, but at this point, I think we know what we're getting with Svi.

KU/GEORGIA GAME CHAT • Nov 23, 2016 04:58 AM

@brooksmd Well ever since I wrote that the sucky SEC team has gone on a nice little run so maybe some strange curse has been cast upon our team. But I'm not changing what I wrote.
