Very good draft so far. Likely two immediate starters and the olineman could possibly work his way in as an interior lineman.
Weird timing!

@FarmerJayhawk looks goooood. We have a shot?
Too early to say. Need to get him on the phone with Dave and sell him on the twin towers of Virginia
Just noticed he plays for Team Loaded (same as Frank and Dave). Let's get it done!
@FarmerJayhawk looks goooood. We have a shot?
Big Texas bags.
Ryan on the Phog had this to say. Figured this was worth copypasting here for those that don't visit that forum.
"I'll preface with this: my source for Thompson info has been the same as my source for Grimes stuff. He knows them both very, very well and coached them extensively.
His big thing with Thompson is that A) he is a ridiculous shot-maker, but not necessarily a straight-up great long-range shooter and B ) he has a far better work ethic and attitude than Grimes ever did. That's the thing he emphasized to me the most was the work ethic was NBA level and his attitude was great. The shooting thing is to emphasize that he probably won't come in and be 3pt bomber, but the kid has a knack for always making shots. He also think he'll be a really dynamic fit alongside Marcus Garrett."
@FarmerJayhawk looks like Karim Mane did as well.
Not sure how much this would change other than legality and perception. Would be a nice move though.
The comments OMEGALUL
I think BYU was a good pick for him, he can do well in that conference. Would have been exposed in the SEC.

Jokes, it's the Mormons!! Lolololol
Calipari didn't want him anyway. He wasn't ready for the bright lights at UK. Etc...
Awesome. Mitch Ballock is gonna hit like 8 threes.

Weber is an okay enough coach. He's not great, but not awful.
His problem is that he struggles in recruiting and retention. That has burned him time and again. He saved himself last time with Dean Wade and Barry Brown, but unless he does something similar this time, it will be tough to get out of the basement with the upgrades around the Big 12.
His player evaluation is okay but it's hard to replicate Dean Wade (underrated rural KS player that grew up a huge grape) and Barry Brown (sub 200 recruit that ended up playing at an all league level).
We like to bring up Graham and Mason but both were much more of known commodities than Brown. Anyone paying attention knew Graham was a baller and we had to beat out NC State and Virginia for him. Barry Brown didn't have another P5 offer.
It's a shame we were robbed of Wade's final season. He was really good.
@Texas-Hawk-10 I feel strongly that the team sucks in this scenario so I'm hoping it doesn't happen and other guys step up. The offense would be an absolute slog with Garrett, Mitch and Dave on the floor at the same time.
Yeah he is really good at help defense and blocking shots.
I’m waiting for someone to say Mitch is going to come back with a three ball and play a lot.
We’ve heard it every year he’s been here 😂
Yep. The fact of the matter is he is just not a player that looks for offense at all. Which is good because he is not particularly good at it.
Parts of the KU fan base seem to think he's Omari Spellman.
@jayballer73 I know plenty of KSU fans that are simply hoping not to finish dead last again.
I would expect some kind of improvement. His biggest hurdle to playing the four is defense. He would get blown by. In now rare instances where the opponent has a plodding four he would be playable there...
I don't think Mitch is good enough in a lot of areas to be a four. Sounds like semantics between texas hawk and beddie. Wilson and Enaruna are definitely best suited to the 4 spot, but probably consider themselves guards.
I think I'm perfectly estimating Mitch but we will see. I'd put a max minute cap on him of 15 with the team also being any good. If he starts, plays over 20 minutes and is a real offensive threat I'll change my avatar to Mitch for a year.

Something is rotten in Denmark.

I think everyone has more faith in BD than I do. I sure like him, I just can't get there.
This is me with Mitch. I think if he is playing much more than 10 minutes a game we are screwed. He has a very clear ceiling. He is a useful player but his role is certainly coming off the bench.

I think we play lightfoot 25 min a game at the 4 and when he’s out we rotate 4 guards. Thompson and Braun are good shooters and I believe ochai will continue to improve on his shot. Wilson didn’t get enough time to really evaluate but he has good form on his three point shot and I expect him to shoot well. Biggest loss is dotson’s driving ability.
If we play Mitch 25 MPG at the 4 we’re so, so screwed. He’s a good shot blocker and effort guy but I really don’t know what else he gives us.
Should have kept reading the thread. My guy Farmer gets it.
The offense will be fine, assuming we don't play a 6'7'' center next to Dave a bunch. We have a lot of guys capable of playing the 4 so it seems like Bill shouldn't sabotage the offense by doing that.
Check posts earlier in the thread. Searching for Clemence is the easiest way, stuff comes right up. Right now we don't really know as much as we otherwise would because of the COVID situation. Guys can't do visits, coaches can't either etc
Post targets will become clear eventually.
Yes.

Plona starts talking about Tyon at around 57 minutes. Lines up with what @justanotherfan mentioned on Tyon.
Lots of good stuff about JUCO ball in general, lots of stigmas they have to try and break as @Crimsonorblue22 knows.
Seems like he was being more seriously recruited then it fell off. I couldn't really find out why. Most recruiting articles on him are from 2018.

This kid claims to be down to KU and New Mexico State. Can't see that we've offered. Walk-on maybe?
Knowing COVID wipes out the tournament? Hell no. If the tournament happens...Stanley definitely raises the ceiling of the team.

Hurt is Charmin soft. Probably for the best that he didn't come here. Right now he is absolutely a better college player than Braun and Enaruna though.
This is always interesting to ponder. Would a soft player like Hurt have been destroyed mentally here or would practicing against Mitch, David, and Doke, while Self instilling toughness have made him much better?
Seems like a common theme among players during the Self era is they thought about transferring. This was the case with multiple players on the 08 team.
Then of course Self does end up breaking some players like Bragg.
I feel like Self has softened up a bit lately, but not too much.

Strongly disagree. The quality of basketball in the NBA is the best in the world. Plenty of defense to go around but it is a long season and some guys take plays/games off.

There was a question whether dave was coming back????
Crazy thing is next year, the kids will start publishing videos their intentions of entering or bypassing the transfer portal.
I think part of it is they are just having some fun. If Mitch does one, you know it's jumped the shark. :face_with_tears_of_joy:
Honestly, it would not shock me if he was one of our top two scorers. He's gonna eaaat.
@justanotherfan I believe the top 20 players this year went to 15 different schools. Lines up with your point.
I've been for some rule changes to make college closer to the NBA. Always gets some people upset for some reason.
Holy crap this thread went off the rails with that satire story.
I guess there are players that played less and went pro.
Happy to have him back but it wasn't even a question in my mind.

Gonna see a lot of watered down College ball. - -College is just basically a farm league system for the NBA
It's looking like it might become more of a farm system for Europe/Australia at the rate things are going. :grinning_squinting_face:

Anselem reclassing to 20. Not that KU had a chance but this certainly makes that even more clear.
