2020 Recruiting β€’ Oct 19, 2018 10:56 PM

KU sent out an offer to 2021 F/C Michael Foster (complete stud, top 5 talent) and 2022 Wing Colin Smith.

On the bright side we were wondering if KU had room for all the perceived 2020 leans and that probably won't be an issue now. :joy:

New 2019 Recruiting β€’ Oct 19, 2018 10:25 PM

@jayballer73 Farmer was talking about his own opinion, not the cb.

@HighEliteMajor Obama AND the Rice Commission. It's two things, not one. It talks about it in the article.

And they play in CBB FOR MONEY.

Edited to not be as harsh.

Question: What do YOU want KU to do? β€’ Oct 19, 2018 10:01 PM

@cragarhawk Agree. Many appear to be blindsided by it.

Question: What do YOU want KU to do? β€’ Oct 19, 2018 09:58 PM

@cragarhawk I was saying this before, particularly to jaybate when he insinuated that things were stacked against KU.

I was one of the few though, and one time when I brought the subject up on the phog (quite awhile ago, under a different name) I got a beatdown which looks hilarious in retrospect.

And of course obviously it would have been reaaaaaally awesome if KU had been doing it w/o cheating but there has always been too much smoke, imo.

Wright, Rush, Arthur, Collins, Selby etc...

So if Bill Self played it straight, played by the rules. Then lost a lot more games and disappointed even more in the tournament. None of you of would be like yea but HCBS plays by the rules. No everybody would be screaming it's time to go. What do you expect? What are you expectations?

Hey HCBS you need to get five kids from the wheat fields of Kansas and go win a NC. Crazy?

Probably would have missed the tournament by now. Don't worry I've been beating this drum lol.

@cragarhawk I thought I remembered the Pitino and Laranaga (sp?) conversations but I could be mistaken. Either way if something was out there on Self it would have been leaked early like those or at the trial I would think.

If it got buried, well damn that means those guys really fell on the sword but given all the comments and testimony I don't think that's the case.

FBI...here we go β€’ Oct 19, 2018 09:31 PM

@cragarhawk I was hoping Self wasn't directly involved but the current stuff doesn't look good obviously.

They don't have enough to factually link Self to payments though, or they absolutely would have put that out there at trial.

@BShark Is your new profile pic what you're drinking tonight or tomorrow during the football game? lol

Ha, just a bottle from one of my favorite two distilleries. For the money it costs I honestly wouldn't recommend the 25 year over the 12, 15 or 17 year but hey, it's 25 y/o whiskey you have to at least try it once (if you like scotch).

@Barney Completely agree.

Very much agree about Tenn. Lots of SEC football jobs are that way tbh.

It won't shock me if there is a one year swoon in recruiting due to the crapstorm. Hopefully not...

If Mitch plays one real minute at the three I will be shocked.

@BeddieKU23 Exhibit A of why I just can't be worried about KU. They threw Louisville under the bus and Pitino was a guy with a really bad history and cheated while on probation so of course he was fired. Now it's just like nothing happened.

Question: What do YOU want KU to do? β€’ Oct 19, 2018 05:13 PM

@BeddieKU23 I think right now, publicly KU is in a no-win situation. Which is why for now I would keep Adidas. No new deal could be leveraged from a position of strength.

justanotherfan said:

But the G-League is developing an interim step where players don't have to jump directly to the NBA, where they can actually develop while getting paid. You think a guy like Dedric Lawson would be at KU if he could have gone to the G-League last year instead?

If there's a step between the NBA that is a true development step connected to NBA teams (each team will have their own G-League affiliate by 2020), it's more likely that guys with potential will go that route and be developed by an NBA team rather than put into a college system that may not fit their NBA role.

There are, by my count, six guys on this year's KU roster that could definitely benefit from this type of setup - Grimes, D. Lawson, K. Lawson, De Sousa, Azuibuke, McCormack. You could add Dotson and Vick to that list if you wanted to. That's KU's whole rotation minus Moore, Garrett and Mitch. So think about college basketball with KU now having a team built around Moore and Garrett, with a couple of recruits in the 40-75 range. Agbaji would likely be sixth man.

I'm not saying KU would be bad, but the overall quality of CBB would drop because that same thing would be true for Duke, UK, UNC, Arizona, etc.

A guy like Charlie Moore would be a likely conference POY candidate. That's not a knock on Moore, but it's a statement of how much different the talent level could be in CBB come 2023 and moving forward.

Maybe, it depends how much the Lawsons are getting from this. Might be more than a G-League salary that he would have got.

I think McCormack would still be a college guy, but we will see.

@BShark Why the assumption that what a defense lawyer says are facts?? His only job is to create doubt.

Did I insinuate this somewhere? I've actually been having to clarify for people on twitter that closing arguments are not testimony and that he was asking the jury to make inferences.

@Woodrow Soren is the only KC radio guy I EVER listen to. And that's just when I happen to be in the car when he is on. So usually lunch time. The rest are definitely meh.

Anyway I understand where you are coming from on it. Kanye has admitted he has mental health issues though so in that sense I feel for him as well.

If we do get to the point where 100 guys a year are going straight to the NBA development farm out of HS then things will change but like I said I think that's far off.

It will be interesting to see how the university handles this after the trial and verdict. Do they admit the wrong doing? Do they make Self face the media? Do they essentially "take the 5th" because there could be further charges? Do they fire KT as the sacrificial lamb? Does the chancellor demand accountability? Does the AD challenge the "cheating" culture? Does KU commit to a clean program, no payments, no Adidas help, moving forward?

The university has to respond to this, right?

Or, does ... everyone ... just ... act ... like ... nothing ... happened?

Now to unpack this.

Bet not. Doubt it. Probably. Unsure on this but I hope KT is kept on. Don't think so, Self has more power than Long. I wouldn't bet on it. Maybe they slow on the shoe game for awhile but kids are getting paid one way or another imo.

Have we already seen the net result -- Markese Jacobs decommitting because he wasn't paid (?) and KU gaining commitments from 100ish guys? No commits from anyone near a high-level recruit status?

The lead story at ESPN.com. How lovely.

I also find it funny that when Prop 48 came out there were plenty of kids who were not eligible to play as freshmen. Studs like Larry Johnson and Glenn Big Dog Robinson. Now NOBODY fails the SAT. Id bet my life its all cheated.

Imagine being Derrick Rose, the only kid to get caught.

KU has had some partial qualifiers under Self. I still say what if Ben was eligible in 2012. That UK team was really good but maybe he makes enough of a difference. Ben was so good.

I think a lot of people actually would not really care much about or be invested in KU basketball if it was clean. Going back to Larry Brown all the winning is what built up the fan base. If the team was a perennial loser it would basically be like football, which would suck.

Jmo.

1) I think Self was probably pretty upfront with Long during the hiring process. Remember Self sought out Long for the AD job and met with him. I don't think this totally blindsided Long. Also Long was the AD at Arkansas. You don't think he knows the name of the game?? He was in charge of a SEC football team for crying out loud!

2) I was just talking to some people today that this has to be annoying / frustrating for Self and I absolutely think it could change his career path. I am still not convinced he is a NBA guy, but he has always said he doesn't want to coach forever I would think this ups the timeline on his retirement date.

Agree on the first one. Hope you are wrong about the 2nd but I could see it.

@jayballer73 Not sure what article you are talking about? I went to kusports and checked Tait's articles and didn't see this particular one. Checked his twitter as well. If you could post a link for me, that would be great.

Gets a bit nippy here. But yeah, this stuff was NOT presented during trial. The lawyer for Gatto is making inferences in his closing argument here. Are they somewhat reasonable? Perhaps but this is far from testimony even. In fact the testimony from Gassnola said the opposite.
