Literally last year, two traditional teams in the final after Nova won two years ago. There are plenty of ways to win.

Against a team like Nova, mobile bigs are key for defense.

@JayHawkFanToo If at all. He really might as well start getting paid.

@REHawk I'm putting the o/u on McCormack's minutes at 5 per game if Doke comes back.

Doke at a minimum will be playing 20 minutes a game (if not more), Dedric I'd put at 25-30 minutes, Silvio even just as a garbage man is looking at 15 minutes and KJ in some capacity is playing at least 20 minutes a night imo and I would bet at least 15 are at the 4. I just don't see where his minutes come from if Doke is back and I don't think he is particularly D1 ready year one.

Long term I really like McCormack though. He's like a ++ version of Landen Lucas. Below the rim bruiser willing to do the dirty work.

Moore • Apr 08, 2018 04:19 AM

North Carolina literally won the title last year with a very average three point shooting team.

Moore • Apr 08, 2018 02:50 AM

@Kubie Self has had him for a year compared to his entire basketball life beforehand. I'll be very interested to see if Self has tried to change his game though.

Go down a notch to homeless man's Trae Young and I don't think that's too far off.

@Kcmatt7 Very well stated.

@HighEliteMajor Yeah unfortunately it is impossible to say. I can say with fair certainty that the team with Josh wouldn't have been nearly as good without Josh on it. However there was a void created by taking prior oads instead of a purely developmental approach like Nova or UVA.

Moore • Apr 07, 2018 09:35 PM

@Ralster No. His AST/TO ratio in his FR year was not comparable to any season of Frank or Devonte. Also his game is different from them. He takes a lot of shots and isn't as athletic as Frank.

Vick moves on. Forgoes Sr Year • Apr 07, 2018 08:41 PM

@nuleafjhawk I love four year players that love being at KU. In this day and age, they are pretty rare. That makes guys like Frank, Graham and Svi even MORE special imo. I can't fault guys for going pro early at all. Make no mistake, they are majoring in basketball.

Langford • Apr 07, 2018 08:31 PM

I do believe he will pick KU.

He canceled his visit to IU right after Newman and Vick declared. That’s no coincidence

IU isn't the competition. There are people saying Vanderbilt is the choice. We will see.

@jayballer73 2018
Mock: 24
Big Board: 27

That was just the first thing I found googling too.

@jaybate-1.0 In some instances it has served him well. And of course, he has had a lot of success in general.

Draft Declarations Thread • Apr 07, 2018 06:19 PM

@jayballer73 Jontay will be a first round pick. Smart of him to get out of Methzoo.

I don’t find mistakes weird.

I find not making obvious adjustments to mistakes weird.

Self is frequently stubborn.

What of Lightfoot and Cunliffe? • Apr 07, 2018 06:10 PM

@HighEliteMajor Doke is a poor rebounder too, I won't contest that. I actually thought Mitch would get some tick too.

Cunliffe won't start next season barring something truly insane.

@jaybate-1.0 Mitch is a born and bred Jayhawk. He bleeds crimson and blue and isn't leaving. He came to Kansas knowing being buried on the bench most of his career was a possibility.

Agree.

If Mitch transfers I will ban myself.

Vick moves on. Forgoes Sr Year • Apr 07, 2018 12:19 PM

@jaybate-1-0 The information is all readily available. Call it a mutual decision between Vick's family and Self. I said it before he announced, Vick needs money and needs to just start his career now, even if it is, as I suspect, overseas.

What of Lightfoot and Cunliffe? • Apr 07, 2018 12:13 PM

Mitch struggles to rebound, Self just didn't have any good post options against Villanova.

Mitch isn't going anywhere. Cunliffe might.

“I told Coach Self, 'Look, I'm still coming to Late Night,'” she said with a laugh. “We've still got two Memphis boys on the time in Dedric and K.J. (Lawson). I appreciate Kansas basketball taking us places we've never been. And I really appreciate Coach Self and the staff for letting me be myself. They always accepted me. The people there were so nice to our family. And this journey for Lagerald has been amazing.”

Anyone else see the full comments from Vick's mom?

“He played for one of the greatest teams there is. Now it’s time for him to forward. You can’t go to a place and stay. You go, handle your business and move on to something different and allow another kid to move into your spot. You can’t block somebody else by being selfish. I look at him being selfless; somebody else will come in and take his position”

So really, please nobody blame Vick for this move. It seems abundantly clear that he didn't have a spot on next year's team.

@BeddieKU23 @nuleafjhawk

Moore • Apr 06, 2018 10:08 PM

@Kubie Yeah I've heard nothing to indicate Moore is a bad kid. Definitely didn't compare him to Tharpe in that way. His D was really bad at Cal, but of course Self will want him to try and defend. His size might be an issue there.

@justanotherfan Exactly. I've been harping on that lately though saying chucker instead of score first. Score first is probably more polite heh.

@BShark Scholarships is not the problem lol. Vanderbilt, Washington, SKJ and Gabriel were all playing in front of him last year. Add Montgomery into the mix and I don't see where his minutes come from.

Of course UK won't get roasted that Richards, Gabriel, Vanderbilt and Washington all come back for multiple years despite being top 25 players. Only Self gets that treatment.

Yeah, what a shitty and tired narrative.

@BShark No brainer. Would be dumb to do otherwise imo.

Still laughing at all the UK hillbillies that believed he was truly "torn" on the decision.

His dad was looking into agents when he was still in HS per Duke insiders.

Would not shock me to see Richards transfer if they land Montgomery and Washington comes back. No room at the inn.

They were 2 scholarships under the limit this season. They will be fine. Now from a PT perspective you might be right.

Has anyone but PJ Washington declared for them yet?

Vick moves on. Forgoes Sr Year • Apr 06, 2018 07:11 PM

@nuleafjhawk In that situation are you barely paying them whereas the next job they are jumping too makes them millions? Silly comparison.

Duke is no longer recruiting EJ Montgomery. Wow.

@kjayhawks I don't think KU by any means is the runaway title favorite for next year. Still far too early. UK and Nova both could have absolutely FILTHY rosters.

Still, it's a lot of talent for Self. More options/talent than have been available recently so it's more fun to talk about possible line-ups and get excited.

These years worry me, everyone's already talking about greatness and whatnot. Let's see how these guys play and play together next season before we claim the title. 2014 with Wigs and Joel come to mind with this talk and Self has under preformed with his most talented teams IMO.

Huge problem with 2014: Naadir Tharpe.

Secondary problems: Wiggins introverted/protecting the merchandise, Embiid's injury.

Matt Tait doing his weekly • Apr 06, 2018 06:27 PM

@Gorilla72 Not really moreso than Dedric. Also with the caveat that he has been playing in the Summit his PER has been above 30 every season.

@BeddieKU23 He was apparently mentored by Kirk Hinrich fwiw.

I do think KU gets Langford. If not I would expect a grad transfer guard. Possibly one that hasn't announced intent to grad transfer yet. Langford is the much more likely scenario though imo.

Draft Declarations Thread • Apr 06, 2018 06:09 PM

@Kcmatt7 Whether Mitch or Dave are the 4th or 5th big KU is in a pretty damn good spot.

Matt Tait doing his weekly • Apr 06, 2018 06:08 PM

@BeddieKU23 Yeah he redshirted. He will be 23 before the next season starts.

@BeddieKU23 Yep, he's a great modern post player.

Matt Tait doing his weekly • Apr 06, 2018 06:03 PM

What if Doke goes and Mike Daum would grad transfer to KU?

(All fiction, no malice)

2019 Recruiting • Apr 06, 2018 05:16 PM

@FarmerJayhawk That would be nasty. Hurt is definitely the top priority, they have visited him more as a JR than any recruit I can remember.

The PG thing just seems like a huge plus because SO Dotson is going to be very good. Also if he really is a two year player he would easily be my top want in 2019.

Heard today the Hurts are really looking at PG situations for a school and definitely not set on being OAD. They really want the second pro contract.
