@FarmerJayhawk I beg Bill moneybags Self to close this one lol
@FarmerJayhawk think you are right about this moving quickly

Slater says we reached out to Baylor
Thought all he tweeted was he didn't like Wisconsin's chances (hilarious A+ tweet). Believe Kentucky is the favorite.
@rockchalkjayhawk I wish Bill cared about shooting as much as us.
@RockkChalkk I agree. I think we could be in for a rough start as guys acclimate depending on how things shake out. Getting Jalen back is a big key for me.
@RockkChalkk said in Next Year's Team Thread:
If Wilson and Braun leave, next year's team will really be lacking experience.
Probably gotta get some experience in the portal.
I'm a pretty firm believer that NIL is just putting a public face on this stuff. Not sure on Oscar, he genuinely seems to love it at UK and isn't draftable.
@approxinfinity Remember when UNC returned their roster after 08?

Only one on his list...
Hope we get him. I worry about Barnes/Tennessee despite some stuff I heard.

MAJOR BAG ALERT. Would be pretty surprised if this doesn't get done fairly quick. I dont' think Gonzaga is really in the NIL game. Louisville is the darkhorse IMO
That's definitely a bag ass staff that Payne has assembled.
Made Hunter's top 6, no surprise there.
@FarmerJayhawk Better than NEATDEAL's approach at least. Plus Lance not being senile (Les) surely helps.
Hopefully we see more than 2 wins this year.
@Crimsonorblue22 but really, it's about the money as always. Bluebloods pay well.
He does like the big stage and he knows what we have to offer in terms of packing the place with 16,300 every game.

@Kcmatt7 yeah hoops is relatively cheap. Anything beyond sustaining excellence for hoops should go to football.
For the love of all that is holy just get enough to land a few local kids over KSU. Has to happen. LL might need to be more selective with targets, but they've got to find a way.
KSU's package is not that impressive, which in turn says something not great about ours lol.
@Kcmatt7 yeah hoops is relatively cheap. Anything beyond sustaining excellence for hoops should go to football.
To expound upon this, this is largely the same stuff that has been in place. It's boosters paying kids, but now it's legal in a still roundabout, but more public way. Love is a guy that would have been lucky to be drafted in the 2nd round (my personal guess is undrafted). I'm sure he got some feedback without putting his name in, and it's more lucrative for him to stay at UNC than grind in the gleague or Europe. Just look at the strong history programs like UNC, Duke, UK and to a lesser extent KU have with maintaining fringe draft talents. In the past if this system had been in place you would have seen more guys that ultimately stayed "declare and test" first. Everything is just much more public now, for better or worse.
@approxinfinity yes 100%

Selfs opinion
π¦ View Tweet?s=21&t=iGZHPTtw_vQqt_XkPFJqcA
Self says, as he likely takes ISU's starting PG for himself due to NIL.
@BeddieKU23 said in NIL, transfers, NCAA Policies and where do we go from here:
It's worse in Football. Tennessee QB will reportedly get up to 8 million in NIL when he hits campus. What's the price Arch Manning is going to command? The Top 22 recruit reportedly got 1.5 million from Barstool for a documentary.
The NCAA needs to get out of the game and let the big conferences form their own rules and regs
Football is absolute funny money. There is a reason we aren't a big force there lol.
@bskeet said in NIL, transfers, NCAA Policies and where do we go from here:
True-- transfer rule is not new, but I thought there was a recent change relaxing the rule, plus the Covid accommodations. And each year the transfer portal has gotten bigger and people seem a bit surprised by how quickly it has grown.
Anyway, my assertion is that the combination of NIL and transfer is a new dynamic.
You are correct. The recent rule change regarding transfers is what opened "free agency". Even before NIL, the deals were nuts. I don't think NIL bringing things into public light has changed much, by and large. Some schools like Miami are trying to make things very public but 400k for one year isn't even an insane number. Top talent has received more than that 10+ years ago including at KU.
This is not new, fyi. The transfer rule change opened the gates on true free agency. The sit-out rule previously was the detriment to that.

So if I were a guessing guy I would have to say if we can land Tyresse Hunter & Ricky Council - not sure do they both play the same position ? - Anyways if not if we landed both we would have to call that a very sweet Portal.
Coach Self said they would like to find a tall Guard a guy that could play the Combo - -a guard that could fill it up/score . IF & This isn't happening but IF he said IF both Wilson and Braun returned and no one transferred out that KU would be full and have no scholi available - -but take it to the bank be willing to bet that Christan & Jaeln BOTH are gone
Hunter is a true guard and Ricky is more of a wing/4 for us. I think this combination would fit the bill that Self talked about. That said, not sure how far along things are with Ricky. Not as far as Hunter I believe.
@Crimsonorblue22 said in 2022 Transfer Portal Thread:
@BShark are we waiting on Wilsons decision? Does this mean we lose yes and Bobby?
Bobby isn't going anywhere. Getting Hunter would give Bobby another year to develop w/o having to start.
Believe Cuffe will be asked to leave. Joe could see the writing on the wall as well but idk. Sounding like KJ will stay.

@Crimsonorblue22 Hunter. Completely unrelated to wing situation. Staff will bring in another guard that is 6'5'' or taller as well.
Your killing me here Dude lol. - - You post earlier about other schools getting involved with hunter - -then we got MR happy pants sponge Bob - so Ol Spongy here mean things looking good again or is Sponge Bob just a article you use to bath with lol
One of the other schools involved is worried they don't have a shot because KU just about has him locked up. Friend of a friend on their coaching staff (I'm getting old lol). Hunter really wants to play for a blue blood and we having a starting spot open at the 2G and can meet (will probably exceed honestly) the number he was looking for in terms of NIL.

Tennessee just landed a transfer PG & UVA has Clark returning with Beekeman. Not sure I see why he'd look at them
UVA is older info. I'll ask again about Ricky, when did they land the PG? I know they were gonna add Collins but they either struck out or must have told him they got someone else.
Edit: Looks like Tyreke Key. Can't hurt us I suppose.
Ole Ricky (Tennessee) and Virginia are also trying to get involved with Hunter. Would love for us to shut the door after his visit.
@Jethro said in What no one wants to mention Jay Wright retiring?:
Everyone thought MJ Rice would go straight to the G league. And Zuby looks like a BEAST. We haven't signed this amount of talent since 2014, with Wigs and Joel.
P.S. Udeh is very impressive, too.
Rice didn't get the big gleague offer he wanted, thankfully...
I love this class too.
I love it, personally. ISU is our new farm team. YEEHAW.
I do not mean to cause alarm but this guy is as connected to ISU's basketball program as ANYONE.
Love Ochai so much. He gone as expected.
Love returning to UNC. An expected but important for KU domino...
Soon :trade_mark:

This is confirmed yes. He would have been dumb not to do so.
80% gone imo. Definitely plans to go. Could be a late miracle or something changes with his draft grade etc
PLEASE ADIDAS I BEG
Statement from CB. :crown:
@FarmerJayhawk When you drink the entire pitcher of koolaid.
I think sucks is a reach given his output his SO year. He was a solid starter that turned into a great one this year.
@Jethro Remember the posters on 247 that were saying CB sucked after the 20-21 season? Good times...
Hard to say where that ends up. I think if he signs with a good agent they should be able to get him taken in the first round considering his skill set and measurables. He was our clear cut 2nd best player this year.
@Jethro I've heard some things on this one. If he isn't going to be drafted in the first round, he should be back.
@Crimsonorblue22 said in 2022 Transfer Portal Thread:
@BShark I never heard the coaching part. Is he staying here?
Per trusted source he has been SOAKING up information from Bill on the bench this year. I think Bill finds a spot somewhere for him, if he wants to start that immediately.
@Crimsonorblue22 if he gets first round feedback he will leave
This won't happen but imagine if CB and JWill came back and we swapped Cuffe for Hunter. π₯Άπ₯Άπ₯Ά
@Crimsonorblue22 Wants to get into coaching I know this. If he starts now instead of trying to grind pro ball for a few years he is on a much faster track.
@Gorilla72 He should be sticking around, but not as a player.
