Christian Dawkins is testifying in his defense currently. Should be some more gold to come from this

@BShark Yeah, unlike most people I was pretty pumped about the signing of Braun and McBride. They coupled with Garrett and Dave will allow us to build depth.
I love McBride's game. Braun has improved his game over the past year so I'm confident he'll develop here.
Above everything I respect that they signed into the teeth of the FBI issues. We haven't seen a single bit of hesitation from them.

I really hope we land Holyfield. He's a big need even if De Sousa is back but it sounds like the situations are mutually exclusive. That's unfortunate as I see a good role for him regardless and he'd have the highest exposure at KU if he had professional aspirations after.
Enaruna (if he signs) I don't see playing much as a freshman from what I've seen of him this spring. The potential is there and your hoping that by year 2 he's a factor in the rotation. I hope he sees the benefit of coming here. It sounds like the staff is confident
I think it was @Marco that asked would we rather have Holyfield or Silvio and I think it's a very legit question. Despite posters that get belligerent about it on the phog, Silvio is in fact a 5/C at this level. So if Silvio is back we have 3 PURE 5 men (Silvio, Doke, Dave) which isn't great in 2019 tbqh. Then you factor in that Mitch is a 5 in a 4s body... We could really use Enaruna and Holyfield as both are pure 4s with actual basketball skill. Though I agree Enaruna probably won't see huge tick as a FR.
It really is a legit and tough question to answer. What fits the team needs the most. Both players have differing skill sets. In a perfect world you have both to use. It doesn't seem like we can have both however.
Silvio- knows the system, best rebounder on the team, top 3 athlete on the team, raw, inexperienced, high motor, limited shooter.
Holyfield- can stretch the floor, shot blocking presence, good athlete, 3 years of D1 experience, high character teammate.
Holyfield is probably the perfect compliment to Doke offensively. That's if his 40% 3 ball is truly a strength of his game. Defensively because of his versatility on Offense I'd assume he can guard the perimeter better as well. Silvio and Doke are limited here. Can he rebound at a high level? Silvio is a top rebounder and a High % shooter around the basket. If we could take them both and combine talents we have one heck of a player

@BeddieKU23 Dixon will have a tough year regardless of what happens. Then after having the tough year he will have an even tougher one after losing so many players to transfer, and then, and then, and then.
If his two upperclassmen return they will be okay still. The attrition from this year is definitely going to hit him at some point. He's trying to close the bleeding taking 3 transfers to plug in after next year.

Dixon wears players out like Bill but lacks the same recruiting chops. He's a good coach but will likely never win the league or make the FF due to this.
The attrition of his roster by the end of first semester was impressive. I thought KU had it bad

Self had an in-home visit with Greg Brown.
He's busting his ass lately, perhaps rejuvenated?
That's going to be one tough bucket of cash to overcome. Talented player. Hope we keep in it
The hammer should be coming soon now. Sean Miller's former assistant Book Richardson told Christian Dawkins on a phone call intercepted by wiretaps that Miller was paying Deandre Ayton 10k a month while enrolled at Arizona.
If Arizona turns a blind eye this time there is no hope for this sport
If that in-home visit was good news hallelujah. The timing of it all would certainly point in that direction.
Texas is especially good at this. Not much anyone can do to stop it either. The trials stopped nothing.
I wouldn't be surprised if the visibility of this all created more wanting their pockets filled
TCU took its 3rd sit-out transfer in former Ohio St F Ledee. With Bane & Noi in the draft (for now) that still leaves them 1 scholly short. If they both leave TCU would have a roster consisting of 5 Sophomore's and 4 Freshman. Dixon has a tough year ahead if that happens
I really hope we land Holyfield. He's a big need even if De Sousa is back but it sounds like the situations are mutually exclusive. That's unfortunate as I see a good role for him regardless and he'd have the highest exposure at KU if he had professional aspirations after.

RJ Hampton officially a 2019 guy. New final four: KU, UK, Memphis, Texas Tech.
Interesting addition.
Well I guess going to KU still gives a kid the exposure to get these chances despite a poor season. If he's at any other school not named Duke/UK/UNC he's not invited.
Good luck to the kid. The success rate for these types is extremely low

Enaruna was quoted that he wanted to play a lot right away. Not sure that will happen in Lawrence....depending on whom else signs.
It would suck if we lose another player to Creighton because of this.
Creighton has 10 scholarship players including freshman.
2 PG's
2 SG's
3 Wings
1 PF
2 C's
Looks like they might be selling the 4 spot. I don't know what position Ballock settled into but he would seem like a player in Enaruna's way
It's a great move and expected after the year he had. So far he's been a very likeable guy in the Big-12 unlike some. Hopefully he can sustain what he's building. It looks like he'll have an extremely young roster for the first time in Lubbock.
I agree great fit and not a ton of local pressure.
6 year deal worth $4.75 million a year through 2024-2025. Tech ponied up big time. Well deserved.
Is this a sign he's staying put for the long haul or just building equity waiting for the Longhorns to offer him double in a few years..
Won't hurt to have a guard that can facilitate as well. Position less Basketball

lol, so good.
Ok, well I hope you're right obviously. Let's not bank on having him.
Oh yeah, I agree. I'm very happy Dave is around. He's as good a backup as we could ask for. Also why we need bodies in general. By my count we have 4 scholarships open:
Losses: Cunliffe, Vick, Moore, Lawson, Lawson, Grimes
Gains: McBride, BraunI don't feel that good about going into the season with 9 dudes.
Whether we start the season with more we always seem to end up with 8 or 9
If you think that KU re-uping with Adidas is a bad look you should quit watching college basketball knowing the NCAA cant be bothered to attend or acknowledge what's being revealed in court this past week. #Keeponbelieving
Book Richardson was paying so many recruits he had to tap into his retirement. The NCAA cant be bothered tho. They bout them edjumacation and amatzerism life

Poor nnaji for signing on the dot early
Some wild stuff again on Will Wade.
Book Richardson says LSU coach offered him a job to help with recruitment of Naz Reid. Per Richardson, "look there's a deal in place". "I got $300,000 for him". Richardson, "I said give me half and I'll make sure the kid goes there"

Still has his job right??
Beard is very good at identifying talent.
I agree they are both playing it coy for the media right now but I'm sure behind the scenes KU's staff knows they are going to do this. If they weren't I don't think we'd see them as a priority right now especially if they don't plan to make it official until summer hits. Missing on both would be a colossal failure. I'm coming around to thinking at least 1 of the 2 will be in Lawrence next year. Huge if we get both, absolutely huge
He seems like a great fit with what we have. If you have Silvio/Mitch his skill set is different from them and that's key to pairing him along Doke. A 4 that can be shifted outside to give Doke free roam down on the box is not a bad thing.
For all our recruiting misses so far we're certainly still in it for the best remaining. Hampton and Walker could have easily been Duke/UK locks at any point if they had made decisions earlier about their futures.
FarmerJayhawk said:
I’ll also add the staff feels they’re in as good a spot as anyone with Precious. Of course that could change on a dime depending on Silvio/Walker/Tucker.
Nice! The most important part of that post was "(could change on a Dime$)"

Enaruna began his official visit yesterday. Hopefully Miami and Creighton weren't able to drop off the cash
I think the real question is can KU match the offer. Also if that stuff about him wanting to play a lot right away isn't fluff KU might not be the best choice for him.
Miami still has the most immediate playing time to sell. I can't imagine any kid in the Top 100 saying they want to come in and sit the bench but if playing time is truly a factor yeah KU probably isn't where he goes
BShark said:
“Bill Self said he needs a point guard and a point guard that can do a lot of things," Walker said. "I’m 6-6, 230, so at my weight and my height there’s not a lot of guards [like me].”

Saying he needs a point guard makes it sound like Dotson isn't returning. Not a scenario we'd like to have
KU was watching Jalen Suggs, Maddy Sissoko, Daron Holmes Jr, Karim Mane among others this past weekend in the 20 class. I know I missed a bunch they were everywhere
KU offered Josh Hall, a 6-foot-9, 190-pound junior small forward from Moravian Prep Academy in Hickory, North Carolina. Norm primary here.
Hall, the No. 139-rated player in the recruiting Class of 2020 by Rivals.com, is considering KU, Oklahoma State, Florida, North Carolina State and others.
"They just have had really good success with those guys and he told me I remind him of the first time that he saw a young Brandon Ingram.”
Enaruna began his official visit yesterday. Hopefully Miami and Creighton weren't able to drop off the cash
Has good size, very long arms. Has to have a 6'9 wingspan I'm guessing. We offer?
Can only hope there are any of those left. I think Dave is one but his development arc is different

This will be his third school... Advanced numbers are bad defensively but that can be a total team thing.
Yeah his D grades to Charlie Moore/Grimes territory for comparison.
Made 54% of his 2's.. Decent assists. Good FT shooter. Average 3 point shooter but his 55 makes would have been 2nd on the team. Decent size. Would take tbh

@BeddieKU23 I'd compare Dotson to Damian Lillard and would say he will always be more of a scoring lead guard in that respect. Lillard raised his freshman scoring ppg of 11 to 20 his sophomore year. I think Dotson could raise his similarly from 12 to 20 if he comes back.
Good points. I do agree that I see Dotson always being a scoring guard. There's nothing wrong with it either, Winston for example however found a balance between the two his Jr year which is why I believe if Devon watched his film he could definitely learn a few things. I also don't think its out of the question he raises his scoring from 12 to 20. He's capable and with all that left this season he's the most likely person to step up and take on more. I hope he lives in the gym working on his shooting and confidence in his game this summer. Same for Ochai.

@jayballer73 I respect your opinion, but I don't think that Dotson can much improve his stock, I really don't. Hell, look at what Frank did his senior year and he was still a second rounder, ditto for Devonte.
I would fall back a little on the Frank/Dotson comparisons. Dotson is 6'2, not 5'11 and Height does matter. I'd be interested in seeing what Dotson's Wingspan is compared to Frank's as well. Frank made up for his height by being a world class athlete at 5'11.
Dotson was already a better defender coming to KU then when Frank left KU. Dotson will hold his own defensively from what I've seen of him.
Where they are similar is they both came to College as more of a scoring guard then PG. Dotson's role at KU changed over the course of the season and by seasons end Self was relying on his offense more then anything. Frank was always juggling being a team manager and a scorer. Dotson has to improve his PG skills if he's going to stick at the next level. He should absolutely watch film on Cassius Winston and how he runs Michigan St. Winston doesn't have blurring speed like Dotson does but his feel for the game and his ability to get to certain spots on the court are almost impossible to stop. I think Dotson can improve on everything coming back. Shooting from the perimeter, mid-range, we saw very little in his arsenal outside of straight line drives to the hoop. Does he have a floater? He's far ahead of where Frank was after his freshman year. Another year could definitely get him into the 1st round potentially.
CoreyBill said:
What about from a pg depth/athleticism standpoint?
Correct me if I'm wrong here but is Seventh anywhere near the athlete he was in HS at this point? I think his injuries over the years have limited what he is now. That's what I saw this year from him but I could be wrong.
I was also assuming he was a grad transfer but it looks like he's a sit-and play option. My assumption of him potentially coming to KU was that KU doesn't need players that have a glaring weakness (shooting) in their game. We have plenty of those already.
We do however need a running mate for Dotson- someone like Matt Mooney who completely transformed Texas Tech's team last year after they lost their do it all PG Keenan Evans and returned a young PG Moretti. Mooney took tremendous pressure off Moretti all season long and that's what Self needs to find for Dotson. Grimes wasn't capable of doing that for this past years team for a laundry list of reasons. If Self finds the right guy then that takes pressure off the staff to rely on McBride as a freshman. McBride is someone I have a lot of faith in but the best case scenario is Self finds himself a starter on the market that compliments Dotson's game. I prefer someone who can shoot, not only shoot but has confidence is making plays. We need a guy that can make 80-100 3's in the starting lineup. We don't have one player returning capable of that.
Therefore the addition of Seventh Woods didn't seem like a good fit to me.
CoreyBill said:
Seventh Woods Transferring from UNC, I think we could really use him. Would love to know what you guys think
Cant shoot tho. We have plenty of those already
Makes sense after UNC got 2 Top 100 kids on the perimeter in one day.
Sounds like Norlander will reveal much more later after court breaks for the day. Wow.
My biggest hope for Dave this season is the game slows down for him. He was always in hyper active mode. Even a simple post entry he'd make difficult. You can't question his effort out there. Sitting behind Doke another season doesn't accelerate the hopes I have though. We'll see. He'll provide quality depth which we need desperately
