Most model's I've seen are giving KU less then 40% chance of winning. Big whoop Models. We got this

@BeddieKU23 Nice. Ability to analyze like this explains your bracket challenge standing!
My bracket challenge standing is only as good as long as KU stays alive. I wouldn't want it any other way..
One way KU can potentially overcome Spellman's ability from the 3 point line is to guard him with Svi. Spellman is really just a big man with a shot, not a significant low-post scorer but if your looking for a way to take away that 3 point line you put Svi on him and make him give up the ball. Spellman has made 41% of his made shots on the year from 3. Villanova in general takes 40% of their shots from 3.
With Doke, Spellman is going to get open looks especially off pick and roll situations because Doke simply cannot move his legs quick enough. Doke on Paschall however is a much better matchup for Doke because Paschall shoots only 33% from 3. You can live with him making shots just like KU survived Duval having a great game. Spellman though has proven all season long to be a difference maker in their offense. Will be interesting to see what they gameplan for them
Your stuff is great, we are lucky to have you on this board as well as the countless others that make this place great!
It looked to me that Duke had plenty of plays set up for Bagley down low. But Svi's defense and our rotations to cut off a clear pass to him was exceptional.
I can remember a play out of a timeout they had a play set for Bagley down low. Except Svi fronted him with physicality and cut him off from getting position. Duke switched to the 2nd part of this play which was a ball screen for Trent to come off to the top of the key which he nailed an open 3. This play was meant for Bagley and they got a 3 out of it instead.
Bagley for all of his talent will need to put on significant strength in the NBA. Svi while giving up height and athleticism was able to body him a bunch off his spot. Svi played about as flawless defense as you can expect. Even when Bagley got the ball at the top of the key Svi correctly overplayed to his dominate left hand and Bagley rarely tried to get by him off the dribble. Svi played the best defense of his life Sunday.
This effort absolutely reminds me of how Perry Ellis was neutralized against Nova in the Elite 8 two years ago.
Yes that was a great play

Some stuff floating out there about how Bagley's dad, who runs an EYBL team filed for bankruptcy. Then, ends up in a very nice house while no evidence of him having a high paying job could be found. Super weird. Nothing to see here right? @BeddieKU23
That is correct. Lance Thomas didn't get Jewelry either. Nothing to see here. Just a bunch of rumors. Can't have happened
If he watched Sunday's game and wasn't convinced well I'll laugh at him for the rest of time. That's as good as it gets for a recruiting advantage. I don't think we are done impressing either. This ride is continuing all the way to Monday Night.
Having said that I'm not sure what effect winning has on recruits such as Langford. He knows all 3 situations, he knows the coaches, the cultures, the styles of play. He's about maximizing his one year for the pro's. We have a father that's involved on a similar level to some others.
He's a fantastic talent, I think KU needs him to compete for a title next season as I've stated multiple times but I also have this sense that Langford isn't as much concerned about KU as what comes next. And for the most part every player that's come to KU that "doesn't unpack the bags" ends up hurting us when it counts most in March. I've also seen reports that he is the type that would put his mind and body on the line wherever he goes as he's had tremendous pressure surrounding him this year as Indiana goes crazy over his every move. I've seen reports that he's handled everything thrown at him very well. He could have went to other higher profile schools but wanted to be around his team and his hometown. Self will demand he unpack his bags if he wants that challenge, he'll be here. Just my thoughts here.
Vick.. Who knows. This version of Vick is the one we all thought might be NBA gone after season's end. I'd imagine a tourney run would give him momentum, get a combine invite, see how he tests and plays etc. I still think he's leaving but I would love to be wrong. The passion he's showing on the court for the past month would be awesome to have back. If Vick is going to ever break out of his shell from the type of person he is, leading a young bunch of guys next season could be what he needs to make it professionally.

@BeddieKU23 Thanks for the breakdown on Houston.
Anytime, I was impressed with their tournament run. tough, well coached bunch. Grey can play somewhere after College

Nice summary. Sampson can be a very good coach...when not breaking rules.
Absolutely he has turned the Houston program around. Both Football and Basketball have seen remarkable turnarounds.
I love Big Dave long term. He's going to have a tough transition defensively for a while. Oak Hill played zone so KU principles will be a big learning curve for him. Hope he finds a way into some games because he will be mighty important in years 2-4
Imagine that, just a month or so ago we wondered on the game chats whether this team could win anything. A transformation like no other I've seen
I'm surprised you didn't mention the coaching. Coach K, the gold standard of the coaching ranks and NCAA tourney vs Self recently minted into the HOF with a gazillion conference championships, multiple F4 runs and a epic Title win of his own.
I think not only was it a heavyweight battle of programs but also coaches who have done nothing but win their entire career basically. This was as good as it gets.
CBS broadcast on a Sunday afternoon as well. I know plenty of people that didn't have a rooting interest in either team that was watching that were on the edge of their seats for 45 minutes. This game had it all from lead changes, games of runs, game-tying shots, a miss buzzer-beater and flat out high level basketball. You could feel the environment even if you weren't there. This was intense, passionate, what the game is all about!
This board has been money since yesterday! Great stuff @wissox

@Kcmatt7 @BeddieKU23 OU people think there might be MORE transfers to come.
Doolittle seems like an easy candidate. Missed half the season with academics. I think he was suspended freshman year for something else. I can see Freeman leaving as well

@BeddieKU23 Fair points. Houston is losing 2 of their top 3 players though, do they have some talent coming in? Or just expected growth of other players? I totally whiffed on Cincinatti. They are a program type school now. Bring in guys that fit the system. Play tough defense. They will definitely have something to say about that conference race.
Yeah Houston loses do it all Grey and Devin Davis who played that undersized forward spot for them.
They do however return their blazing fast PG Robinson, Corey Davis who was the other big-time shooter on the team and Armoni Brooks who made 83 3's at a 42% clip.. 5 rotation guys + two others who played over 20 games.
Not only that they have two transfers if you remember Dejon Jarreau & Brison Gresham former Top 100 players who package-dealed to UMass, left after a year, went to Juco together and now end up at Houston together. Jarreau averaged 9 ppg as a freshman. Gresham had freshman struggles as a 6'9 wirey forward. I can imagine Houston is a good spot for them. Sampson also snuck in and landed Nate Hinton #95 ESPN Top 100, #94 247, a 6'6 wing prospect with a lot of potential and probably one of the highest ranked players they have ever landed. Houston should be pretty good.
Cincinnati does lose a ton. If Jacob Evans leaves and there's some mocks putting him bottom of the first round that would be a huge blow to them. Do it all forward Gary Clark and Washington leave. As you stated Nati is a program type team and 9 guys who played last year will return.
Excellent post btw.
This version of Malik has exceeded even my most optimistic thoughts of what he could be here. Its not just the scoring its everything he's doing on the other side as well.
He dropped a dime to Svi on a drive yesterday that was a great moment of the evolution of Malik with his teammates.
I loved the story about his road to get to this point with this team. He didn't quit on his team or his coach even as he struggled. His father didn't overstep his reach when times got tough. Both of them showed great trust in Self to get him here. It took longer then we thought but I can't imagine trading it for anything else now.

@BeddieKU23 They 100% make the tournament if Shamet and McDuffie are back. Who in their conference will challenge them? UConn will be way down.
McDuffie is a VERY good player. Injuries curtailed his development this year. He was on track to be drafted after his SO year imo.
Houston will be very good again next year. Cincinnati still returns enough to be better then them as well. Seeing 3rd best unless SMU turns it around
I have Michigan vs KU final. KU tie-breaker 78-70. Wouldn't mind that happening at all!
Just a tad good I'd say
Definitely if McDuffie and Shamet return that's a good two'some. Reaves is a really good shooter. Jones will provide additional help on the perimeter. An entire front court of unproven freshman and juco's. Marsha going to have to find some starters on the market with his 2 spots left
The McGusty one really hurts them. The PG leaving was nothing to lose sleep over. They can get someone better in the graduate transfer market
Anybody else have 3 of 4?
Tubby Smith might be going to High Point. Interesting that the school has denied the transfer of their star player (before his hiring). Tubby just was ranting about transfers last month. Some irony..

@BeddieKU23 He's going to make another coach very happy. Imagine he will end up at another P5 school.
Definitely, a 4th year junior with a year off to learn somewhere else with his shooting ability. Buckets for someone. Wouldn't be surprised to see him end up in the SEC
Bingo!
McGusty will be very good for someone else. Imagine he'll have a ton of teams after him
Isiah Brown of Northwestern transferring. Thought he'd be starting for them next season..
Jalen Dupree of Murray St leaving. 6'9 240 Soph averaged 5 and 4. Not KU level but maybe another mid-major level good.
Entire Pitt team is gone.
Harry Froling of Marquette leaving. 6'11 to be Jr.
Tarik Owens of St Johns. Bouncy 6'11 forward is eligible to play immediately..
I knew that team wasn't all coming back. Surprised by McGusty leaving but his demeanor on the court and style of play certainly could be interpreted as less then positive
Wow, not something we see often. Good to see them being held accountable and the public knowing that it's happening. Same thing happened with Valentine because of the UNC-Joel Berry incident
Sign him up now!
At work and have this beaming smile.
The win ranks up with the best of them.
Hope everyone else is enjoying the feeling of that W.
San Antonio here we come!

Do we know if there is another younger Teahan brother?
Maybe a cousin or married into the family Teehan we can get in 3 years
Whatever Vegas your going to be wrong
As always a terrific post.
The guard dynamic in the Nova game will be interesting. It's POY vs POY (Brunson, Graham). Brunson plays the game differently then any guard we will have faced this year. He backs you down and posts you up. Not easy to defend and you have to have excellent eye coordination and discipline to not bite on the pump fakes.
I expect another fantastic game.. We got the E8 monkey off our back, now its time to get Nova revenge!
Team of destiny
Devonte payback game
