We are going to have to get some production from the bench. Starters all played mid-30s minutes yesterday. That isn't sustainable over 3 games in 3 days or over the season.

Most disturbing trend is not getting to the FT line, esp. at home. And, not making 'em when they do.

I’m not sure it’s fair to have McCullar and Juan out there at the same time.

Dick's been very impressive as well with his defense. A line up of Udeh, Adams, McCullar, Dick, and Harris could shut some teams out for long stretches.

And, be shut out from scoring for long stretches...

What isn't acceptable is O too often getting to the FT line - and making them. 9-10. We are an all too typical 2-6...

2023 Recruiting • Jul 21, 2022 08:06 PM

For those who follow recruiting much more closely, why is it that KU has zero commits in the 2023 class? And, seemingly nothing more than a "warm" with anyone on the 247 list? Duke and UK each have 5-6 commits or 100% predictions in the top 50. Several other schools have multiple top 50 commits.

Ochai's Summer League debut • Jul 14, 2022 02:35 PM

@KirkIsMyHinrich Unfortunately, a bit more of a struggle for CB. A couple of really bad shooting games. 1-10; 0-5 last night. But, he otherwise filled the stat sheet with 12 RBs, 5 assists, and 3 blocks.

Big 12 Expansion • Jul 04, 2022 08:22 PM

@rocketdog The point about eyeballs is a critical one. While the both the SEC and B10 have the big media deals, its actually the B10 which now has a much larger media market footprint, including the top 3 (NY, LA and Chicago). The SEC is actually behind others in shear eyeball reach. And, those two and the ACC overlap in markets to a significant extent. I would argue that combining the right B12 and Pac12 schools could result in pretty strong media market footprint, with 5 of the top 12 and 11 of the top 36, many of them that would not have cross-competition. That would mean adding Arizona/Phoenix, Colorado/Denver, either Stanford or Cal/Bay Area, Oregon/Portland and Washington/Seattle to pair with Houston, Dallas-Ft. Worth, Orlando, KC, SLC, and Cincinatti (the latter 3 are top 36), plus some of Sacramento and San Antonio. It won't be close to the B10, but its not nothing. It would dominate the center of the country to the west (ex LA).

Big 12 Expansion • Jun 30, 2022 05:15 PM

Well, there goes KU's shot at joining the B10....

Dwindling options. Join the PAC 12 or the B12 add two of the best remaining - CO rejoin and maybe AZ? Not sure they would have any interest...

@Texas-Hawk-10 One could argue, but I personally don't think it's winning argument. Not to diminish 5 titles over 40+ years (his first 5 at Duke were before the tournament expanded) for K. But compared to Wooden's 10 titles in 12 years, 7 in a row? Sure, UCLA only needed to win 4 games, but that was true of all the higher seeds, and no one else could do it. Most remarkably, and in contrast to several Duke teams, Wooden did it without real depth of quality NBA talent. Yes, he did have (then) Alcindor and Walton for 6 of those titles, but how many other of his players on any one roster were real NBA players? The first title, it was Hazzard and Goodrich. The next one, just Goodrich. Alcindor didn't have that much around him. Walton a bit more. But, they were great teams, greater than the sum of the parts, because they were so well coached.

Other great coaches during that era and lots of NBA talent on other teams - but almost no one else could win 4 in a row over a dozen year period....

Everything Bill Self • May 13, 2022 06:30 PM

@benshawks08 @justanotherfan You guys forgot about Roy? I would argue that as of now, HCBS is definitely historically behind K, Wooden, Roy, Dean Smith, and Adolph Rupp. Closer call with Calhoun and Knight - they each have one more title and more overall wins, as now, but not close to the winning % or consistency. That's it. The only thing Boeheim has is greater longevity. With 5+ more years at current pace and IF he gets one more title, he gets to #3 on the all-time coaching pantheon, based on national titles, conference titles, winning % and overall consistency. Even without another title, he likely passes Smith (who currently has more wins and slightly higher winning %).

If anyone wonders how the ranked wins play out for percentages in the last decade… then offset this with the massive recruiting advantage duke has. https://betiq.teamrankings.com/college-basketball/betting-trends/win-loss-records-vs-ranked-opponent/?season=since-2012-2013 ↗

What's also noteworthy is that KU has played 50% more games against ranked opponents than Duke....

@BeddieKU23 said in Next Year's Team Thread:

I really do hope one of Wilson/Braun returns because that guarantees KU would have a featured player back. Both come back and the ceiling for next year is a lot higher then if only one returns.

Before the tourney started I thought we'd see both back. Now we have no idea what would motivate them to come back.

For Braun he's a Kansas kid, a lifetime KU fan and as we've found out his bond with Dejuan Harris goes a lot further then the basketball court. What does Braun want his legacy to be? It's already sky high. Another year could send it to the rafters like Ochai or he leaves on a high like Mario Chalmers did. His NIL game was just starting to ramp up as the season was ending (merchandise/apparel) so that's another thing that may incentivize him to come back if his draft grade isn't to where he has a guarantee.

For Wilson he's got parts of his game that could use developing. The chance to take on that "alpha" role and be a featured scorer could be the kind of opportunity he needs to change NBA minds.

What could motivate them? Maybe, just maybe, it's the same thing that motivated Horford, Brewer and Noah (all lottery picks) to come back for the Gators in 06-07 - to repeat as champions, which they did. So, if we're in dreamland, not just CB and JWil, but also Dave, come back....

I hate to even raise it, but the biggest question mark is not HS prospects or the portal, its the IARP. If and when that shakes out will dictate a lot of decision-making....

2 straight titles for the B12. Should have been 3. Let's make it 4 next year - KU repeating, of course!
