That is a really good point. I now recall that he is the unknown named player that signed with Arizona on or about a certain date and he also hired an attorney shortly after. Until he is cleared, and like you said, he will probably be radioactive; however, if he is cleared he will have every major program after him. I believe he is already 18 so the G-League would seem to be an option and of course he could also play overseas (China???)
Wow, this is big. Does he go to Villanova or considers others? Every major program will be after him.
Martin had Jaylen Brown and Ivan Rabb at California, two excellent players now in the NBA and did not do much with them. MU has the Porters and Tilmon and maybe Harris, all of them freshmen, after that the quality drops quite a bit.
The latest poll ↗ has MU as #5 in the SEC, other polls have them as #7. ↗
VPN - Virtual Private Network. Here is a good primer on it. ↗
The knock on Cuonzo is that he underachieves. MU will have some talented but young players and could be good if the players stick around. The Porter brothers, if they are as good as advertised, will not stay long.
I use my cell phone as a hot spot still using my Consolidated login and it gets me around the blackout.
Talking about former KU players...look at Nick Collison and Russell Westbrook (not a formerKU player  ) and wives winning the Halloween contest...

I have Netflix and don't use it much. Hulu is one that lots of people rave and I am looking into; I will have to check Sling. Many of the cable stations carry the same programming on the internet with some time delay. Time Warner or I guess it is now called Spectrum has a month to month cable subscription. Consolidated carries ESPN 3 and I am not sure if I get just internet with them it would include ESPN3. My yearly contract with Consolidated Communications ends in less than 2 weeks so I will be making a decision soon.
Wait...what?...no MU? According to a thread in the MU forum a poster stated that only Duke and UK have better rosters and predicting that any thing short of the Final Four would be a disappointment...never mind that MU never made it to the Final Four. Other posters more cautious but generally expecting big things from the team, most think that MU will contend for the conference title and will make it to the Sweet 16. Yep, meth does fry your brain.
On paper Texas should be #4 or even higher but in reality, and based on what we have seen of Smart so far, probably lower.
I am seriously tempted to cut the cord since the cost of cable is becoming outrageous. In order to get most KU games I have to get the sports tier and when you add everything I get a couple of hundred channels and I watch only a handful and pay a lot of money and I still get several KU games blacked out. I wish there would be a way to select only the channels you want to watch and skip the rest. I know several friends that have done this and have only Internet and they tell me that you can watch just about anything without cable. I need to look into this.
Neither McLemore nor Selden were active for the game. Teams can have only 13 player active for a game.

@JayHawkFanToo Well I'm not against it so 89.99999%
I say that because I think those who oppose tend to be more vocal about it.
Fair enough.
I agree. However on the part about being his dad's idea and according to the article you cited:
"He didn’t mention that specifically in his public comments on Friday, making only a vague reference to an attempt to raise money after Hurricane Katrina in 2005."
I still find it odd that Coach Self would select MU.

Seems likely that for at least a year, some fans are going to gnash their teeth over the choice of Mizzou. Okay, we get it you don't like it. And, considering how fast the tickets sold, I am not buying @JayHawkFanToo's contention that 90% of KU fans are against it. Yes, WSU might have sold out, too. But who cares at this point. The decision is over.
Of course, if KU doesn't win the title this year, we know what will be blamed.
Nice try.
First of all, 100% of KU fans are for the game but at least 90% of the fans are against playing MU. Look at the various KU sports related forums and social media such as Facebook and Twitter and you will see overwhelming opposition, again not to the game but to the opponent. I live in the KC Metro Area and in the last week I have talked to literally dozens of actual KU fans, since this is a popular topic around these parts, and not one supported playing MU.
KU could be playing North Korea or Iran and tickets would still sell out in minutes. You could be opposed to your kid's future spouse but you would still attend the wedding, right? 9,000 tickets to sell is not that big of a deal and not at all an indicator of approval of the opponent. Most of the tickets were sold to donors for whom this is more of social than a sports event, and students; no tickets were left for sale to the general public.
Herro was originally and still listed as SG but it started when he was 6'-2". He is now 6'-5" and probably a SG-SF combo.
Not initially highly recruited but now he seems to be hot and UNC, UK, Arizona and KU are now after him with KU getting the slight nod in some of the recruiting boards.
Yep. Oubre has been flying under the radar but he has put some good performances and is starting to shine.
Wiggins had 26 points but the Wolves let the game at San Antonio get away in the last couple of minutes after taking the lead from being 13 points down. They have the worst record of losing games in the last few minutes; if they could fix this the team could be very good.
She was fine before conference play and her overall stats are still pretty good. Rigdon is playing well and hopefully Payne can get her mojo back before long; KU will really need her down the stretch.
Unrealistic to expect a second round draft pick to play over a lottery pick and #5 overall pick. He was #9 PG in a daft in which 5 of the top 9 players were PGs. Injuries happen and starters will take breaks as the season goes on so I am sure Frank will see minutes and, if he makes the most of them like we all know he will, his playing time will increase.
Lightfoot is studying Engineering and I don't believe he has NBA or other basketball related aspirations, so, he will likely play 4 years, graduate and move on. Just my opinion and I could be wrong.
One correction, Katrina happened in August of 2005 so the proposal to have the games and donate money to its victims could not have been done in 2004 and this was long before MU left the conference in 2012.
Again, I find the selection of MU at this time very odd based on Coach Self's known opposition to the idea and when other options were available. I still believe something happened behind the scenes that we don't know. Kentucky is playing catch up and playing in-state small school Morehead State.
Remember that for many years most of us truly believed that KU got over penalized by the NCAA due to the Askew incident that prevented KU from defending its NCAA title, only to find out recently that KU was really facing the death penalty. Sometimes things are not what they seem.
If KU gets all of its targets it would be its best recruiting class ever and right up there withe best of all time in college basketball. I just don't think it will happen.
I believe we all can say that getting Grimes is likely and would round up the class nicely but then, playing time becomes scarcer and unlikely we get the other two; I would say we get one from Langford, Zion or Herro and call it a bonus. With the Lawsons and Moore also becoming available, it will be a large group of quality newcomers
Kentucky has only one commitment for 2018 and will have plenty of available scholarships and playing time so I will guess they will get a couple or three quality players before all is said and done. I understand they are now looking at Herro as well. ↗
No problem. This forum has a number of posters with great knowledge of the game and some of us older posters have been around for a while and we are able to occasionally bring some old/historical perspective as well. I believe we all learn something new about the game every day by participating in this forum.
If you read Coach Self's comments apparently it was his dad's idea (this baffles me) and he went with it but MU leaked the information, basically taking credit for it. I heard from someone that knows someone that is related to someone familiar with the program he was pretty upset and realized once more the treacherous nature of MU and the chances of playing them again are not impossible, of course, but highly unlikely. The SEC-Big 12 series might be the only hope.
I am leaning this way. I honestly think KU cold have played Wichita State and the place would have sold out even at AFH with half the ticket going to them; WSU has a very large and loyal following. Or maybe a KU, KSU, WSU scrimmage where the teams ply each other in one 20 minutes half and the event was kept all Kansas. It could have then challenged MU to do likewise with Missouri State and UMKC or St. Louis and raise twice the money.
As far as being Coach Self dad's idea, why would he suggest something that he knows his son is very adamant against it? Makes no sense to me.
KU wins rather easily 3-0.
Too bad Kieff is injured, we could have seen 3 Jayhawks on the floor at the same time.
I understand KU is 14 points worse than the Vegas line...worst in college football.
The math is slightly off in some of the scenarios but nothing big. You have Garret playing anywhere between 13 and 32 minutes, do you think there would be that much of a swing?
I have a sneaky suspicion that there is something going on behind the scenes that we don't know and probably will not know any time soon. While the story is that it was Coach Self's idea, MU jumped the gun and went public before the details were finalized obviously trying to take credit for the event which apparently did not sit well with him; I believe this put an end to any thoughts of re-starting the series any time soon or while Self is coaching at KU.
Apparently Coach Beaty is feeling the heat. His comments at the presser ↗ sound like those of some one seeing the writing on the wall.
Pitino suing Adidas, talk about biting the hand that feeds you...
...and KU will own the records for most consecutive road loses.
Depends on whether Zion signs with KU and when he does it. Granted, not likely but possible.
All hypotheticals at this point since we don’t know what Preston would do. If Doke and Preston return and Zion joins, KU would have one impressive collection of bigs, the equivalent of what it has in smalls now.
My point was that Doke and Zion do not play the same position where Zion and Preston do. Udoka returning would likely not affect Zion where Preston returning probably would. Nothing more than that
Udoka plays center while Zion is a PF; perhaps you are thinking of Billy Preston that also plays forward.
Considering how bad MU has been in recent years, it would have only lowered KU’s SOS.😉🤑
Miami went to the finals in 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014 and won titles in 2012 and 2013. Mario’s starting record ↗ in those 4 year was:
Season Started-Played
- 2010-2011 28-70
- 2011-2012 64-64
- 2012-2013 77-77
- 2013-2014 73-73
In the two championship seasons Mario started every game he played and was the starting PG on 3 of the 4 years the Heat went to the finals.
Mario is a very underrated player. He was the starting PG for the Miami team that went to 4 NBA finals and won two rings. In addition to his obvious skills, he brings experience and a winning mentality. Looking forward to see Memphis and its 3 Jayhawks play.

It is ridiculous that an adult is limited from making a living in any profession solely because of collective bargaining, where the participants conspire selfishly to exclude that individual.
Most professional careers have requirements that far exceed the NBA's and they pay considerably less.
If you want to be a doctor you need a college degree, medical school and years of practice. To practice as an attorney, you have to get a college degree, attend law school and pass the bar which is no small feat. As an Engineer, I had to get a college degree and get 4 years of experience working under a licensed engineer before I could even take the PE examination. Teachers have to do it, nurses have to do it, CPAs have to do it, even plumbers, HVAC techs and electricians have to attend trade school, go through apprenticeship and pass tests to get a certification before they can call themselves professional in their field ↗ and all of us do it for a hell of a lot less money. Most of the trades requirements and regulation are a result of negotiations by the unions that represent them....and all those mentioned above have to pay their own way for the required education/training and certification and start their careers with student loans, some of them very high.
I don't find it unreasonable that a professional sports organization has some minimum requirements, particularly when there are million of $ at stake at the end of the paid for training period. No one is forcing anyone to become professional basketball players, they can always work in another field and go through the requirements of that profession.
I have been saying that Garrett can play 4 positions including PG. It will not surprise me to see him play PG a fair amount of time.
Probably funnier for us older posters; the younger ones might not get it.😊
D - Place Cleveland State on probation.
The best help I can give you is to tell you that in view of the recent events in Las Vegas, and even absents that, I find the use of very tragic events in our history to elicit laughs in very poor taste.
Perhaps it looked funny at the time you wrote it but I am sure that upon further review you will agree with me. I know you can do much better.
Very helpful summary. Looks like KU is in good shape in the near future but the League will be down as I just don't see top players coming in to schools other than KU...at least not yet.
I believe the 2017 tracker looks lot better with several top 50 prospects joining the Conference.
Moore proved he can play Division I b-ball and that was as a freshman. With one year of practice under Coach Self and scrimmaging against Devonte and Malik will give him a huge advantage. It would not surprise me if he starts at the beginning of the season until Dotson get his feet wet and takes over.
I did not check all of them but I believe they were all ranked higher than Grimes. Also, Oubre did not start until several games into the season and maybe Selden as well?
Thanks for the heads up, I seem to remember now something about it....and I need to remember to be nice to @BShark...🍻😇
This is the culture we live in. As long as he is winning he will be untouchable, once he starts losing the same people that are protecting him will turn on him. If he is smart he will retire while he is on top; considering his age and health it might not be a bad thing.
