They just signed Lance Stephenson, so Svi won't be the only 3 point shooter...
@BShark Wouldn't that be rich? Hell, I'd buy Marsha's wife her first drink.
@BShark I remember a Tucky fan caterwauling because we got a 2 seed with 9 losses back in the Wigs year( 2013-14), and I simply told him it's the schedule. That was the year we played the toughest schedule in college basketball in the last 20 years. I think that is the main reason we've lost to lower seeds in the past- our schedule elevates us to perhaps a higher seed than the eye test. As much as it pains me to say it, the year we lost to the Shlockers they were simply better than us. Not this year.
I don't think KJ can beat out Vick. I think it's going to be Charlie/Grimes/Vick/Dedric/Doke at the beginning of the season, with Dotson moving into Charlie's spot as Dotson gets his sea legs under him. Our 2nd team would be at least a Sweet 16 team...geez. For all the criticism Bill took last year for leaving his roster short with the transfers, it sure looks pretty ingenious now.
@stoptheflop Man oh man, I like the way you think.
@BShark I never thought Vick had the handles to play point. Just my opinion.
@FarmerJayhawk I'm not trying to be confrontational, but the 12 hours remaining for Vick to graduate was a quote from Self that was published on KUSPORTS: "After the summer session, Vick will be just 12 hours shy of graduating, Self said."Perhaps I am ignorant, but I wouldn't think it would make any of us guilty of any crime by quoting what our head coach said.
@BShark
Nice edit...lol.
@Kcmatt7 It feels like Xmas.

We were 6-1 odds b4 Vick, so I'll bet we'll be favored ahead of Tucky and Dook now.
@BShark We could do the two lineup thing, like Tucky did a few years back. We're deep as the ocean.
WOW....Yahtsee!!!! I feel badly for Ogbaji(sp), though.
@drgnslayr Good stuff, as usual. I don't think we'll become Virginia if we go to 2 bigs, and away from the 4 out. Under Coach Self, our very worst offensive efficiency was 2006, when we were rated 50th. Over Self's tenure, we've had multiple top 10 finishes in offensive efficiency b4 we ever went to the 4 out. The one thing that changed during the 4 out phase was that our def efficiency numbers were worse than before. The Lawsons are known for defense. Dotson, Grimes, and Garrett are considered very good defenders, and we all saw what an impact Silvio had in our run to the FF last year. I have hope for Doke that he becomes more of a shot blocker, and rebounder this year. I think defensively, we are light years ahead of last year's team.
Stacks don't seem to be helping....

@BShark He noted that βCharlie (Moore, sophomore point guard) is hard to guard, quick. He can get in there (the lane). Heβs really confident."
OK, I'm going to make it official...I am electing myself chairman of the KU Buckets Charlie Moore fan club.

Will this finally be the year with little NCAA drama? If it is will some still claim the NCAA is out to get us?
Are we going to lose 3 true home games again? In one season, ever?
When will people end the childish argument about Lebron or MJ being the greatest and acknowledge that Wilt is actually the greatest?
Which most recent KU draftee will make a team?
Who will be our greatest threat to pretend to end our 14 in a row streak?
If a Jayhawk was a real bird would it fly around Missouri?
1) No. It's now an annual event.
2) If we play as bad as we did in those 3 games, then yes. But no, we won't lose any games at home.
3) I know it's a longshot, but I'm thinking Charlie Moore goes through a growth spurt, grows 2 feet taller, and ends up beating out Joel Embiid for NBA player of the decade in the future.
4) All 4 of them ( although only 2 were actually drafted).
5) That would be the Silo Tech Apes. Hopefully, we can give them at least 3 losses again next year.
6) Mizzourah is pretty fowl, so the Hawks may fly over to drop some butt bombs. Maybe they try to target a Baldknobber or two.
@justanotherfan I am probably underestimating KJ. It's going to be very interesting to see the various combinations Self will have to work with.
@JayHawkFanToo Nice read. Here's the quote that has me intrigued:
"K.J., he's just a big guard," Self said. "I look at him as a guard that would be a guy like we played [Josh Jackson]. He's an intangible guard. He really understands the game.
This is what I suspected- KJ will play the 3.
Starters: Moore/ Dotson/Grimes/Dedric/Doke
Primary back ups: BIGS : Silvio/McCormick Backcourt : Garrett/ KJ Lawson
What a massive team we will have. We could have a lineup that rivals an NBA team size wise.
@mayjay LOL..
I don't understand why they didn't rank Perry in first place- he did give us a great 20 years....

Here's a nice article concerning this year's team. I really like the pull quote:
Although the FBI report spoke on Kansas being the victim and not a suspect in the case, Jayhawk haters, Missouri fans, and social media trolls have worked overtime in calling the Jayhawks cheaters and suggesting that they will be playing under sanctions in the near future.

I gotta get me some of those Trae Young man shorts. I think I'd make them look good.
@BShark I think it could be a sh** or get off the pot experience. I see him best case as the 4 or 5 guard. With the way that Marcus Garrett's jump shot looked in the games over the past few weeks, I don't want to shut the door as much as I did a few weeks back. I think Vick would be on a different playing field if he does come back- instead of being gifted with minutes like he was last year, it would be a dogfight for every minute he gets. Maybe coming back could give him the humility to be a better team player. Maybe not.
@approxinfinity They are projecting he goes b4 Bagley. I don't understand it, either.

@JayHawkFanToo If he's as fast as those guys, he's in real good company. I thought Grimes looked exceptionally fast for his size, too.
@jayballer73 McCormack is going to be hard to keep off the floor. I have zero clue how he is going to distribute minutes with this roster. So much depth and talent...it's pretty amazing.
@jayballer73 I'm thinking about that game against Tucky. We should be full bore by then( February). 2nd straight win in Rupp...it will be quite a show we'll put on. I remember all the hell Self went through last year because of our lack of depth, so this year we get to punch that ticket. Now, probably some growing pains from our front court at first, but Grimes and Dotson add so much team speed, some of that can be mitigated right away. I see them making up for dumb mistakes with steals and run outs quite a bit.
@jayballer73 Hey buddy...are you ready to see the best KU team since 2008? Our cup runneth over...
Shooting is a skill ... it is a practiced art. The predictions of what someone will shoot in college based on what they shot in high school is always going to be wrong. I have made a fantasy baseball career out of picking break outs based on ignoring assumptions from prognosticators that don't have the ability to account for progression of the skill set. When the best predictions in fantasy baseball had Yonder Alonso hitting 7 hrs as a projection last year, I knew they were way off, because Yonder had changed his approach, and was blasting out hrs in spring training. Something changed...Yonder started hitting way more fly balls, and he starting racking up some big power numbers.
Devonte did not walk on campus hitting 40% from 3. Neither did Svi. Maybe Grimes only hits 33%...maybe he comes in as a 37%. Or maybe working with coach, and Mr. Townsend and company will allow him to nudge that 3 point shot closer to 40%.
@BeddieKU23 If he could hit 39%, I'd be jumping for joy. i think he'll definitely get some good looks with our offense...teams are going to have to try to stop us inside, which should open things up on the perimeter.
@Texas-Hawk-10 I watched the highlights- I didn't watch the games. All I saw were 3 point swishes, then I read this morning he only went 6 for 25 from 3, so...maybe he's not the 3 point answer I had hoped for. If he can shoot 35% from 3, the rest of his game will carry him.
[
Just look at this guy play. He has elements of Brandon Rush, Josh Jackson, Mario Chalmers, Russ Robb, and shoots a 3 pointer like Svi. NBA All- Star potential caliber, in my books. just look at the way he gets after people defensively- he slaps the ball away, and is off to the races. His handles are so good, he could play point guard. His drives to the basket remind me of JJ. I think we got our 3 point shooter:
[
@BShark I think they both start. DD/Charlie/Grimes/Dedric/ Doke. First man up w the bigs: Silvio. First man up w the guards: Marcus Garrett.
@BShark I think Dotson will own the paint. The drives to the basket will be walks in the park, with two behemoths setting screens down low.
@drgnslayr The one legged mid range jumper is one of my favorites. The way he drives to the basket, and spins the ball two inches from the end of the backboard, and uses english to coax the ball in the net are rec league favorites. Those are shots I used to attempt...and he nails them! It might not always be very athletic, or very pretty, but the kid is a battler and he knows how to get the ball in the hoop.
@jaybate-1.0 33% from 3 is virtually the same as 50% from the 2. 40% from 3 calculates out to 60% from 2. We had to shoot 40 north last year because we couldn't get a rebound to save our lives. If Charlie shoots 35% from 3, we're in the Final Four. I love Charlie- his game gives every rec league wanna be hope. Talk about utilizing what you have...Charlie is just nosing for the basket every time. The backboard angles he uses show his gym rat bonafides, and the guy is simply nails in open space. I think the kid is special, and if we need for him to make 40%, he'll manage.
I don't think we'll see Dedric at the 3. Now KJ Lawson at the 3 is a possibility.
I don't take the racist rantings of progressives very seriously. I understand they are clueless to their sordid history. They don't realize their movement was founded on the blood of the Native Americans in what is known as the Trail of tears. They don't know their founder was a slave owner, or that the entire confederate army was made up of democrats. They don't know they fought a war in order to enslave the black man, and when that didn't work out, then the democrats founded the KKK in order to terrorize blacks all over this country. They don't know that every Jim Crow law was written by a democrat- that the "deep racist south" was really the deep racist democrats who controlled the south for well over 100 years, and set up a palatable racist state where blacks were scorned for everything, and anything to "keep them in their place". They don't know the US Military was segregated by color by democrats. They don't know that US Japanese citizens were segregated by democrats. So, I realize that many lightweight progressives that are now spouting the same racist chants against whites today are using the same racist tactics used against blacks during and after the civil war. Hypocritical? Absolutely. The biggest racists in the history of this country are now mindlessly picking out another group to savage, demean, and run into the ground, as they did against Native Americans, and blacks. So, when you bring up "white privilege"... to me, the voice I am hearing is an echo of other racists of the past spewing hateful rhetoric as part of a hateful, demonic entity that has been an evil presence in America since the early 1800s. How dare you lecture us about racism. When will you ever adopt what MLK said about race...about the content of a man's character instead of the color of his skin? You'd never do that though, would you, Lefty? You can't morally preen around if you can't look down your nose at somebody, right?
@BShark See what I did there?
@BeddieKU23 Why do they call it USC Upstate? Because they didn't want to call it North South Carolina.
@kjayhawks You'll have to go back to 2012 to find a defensive team as good as next year's team. We've got the largest front line in college basketball. The Lawsons are salty, tough minded defenders who like to mix it up. Doke is improving rapidly, and even if he doesn't come back, Silvio is simply a beast down low. Then we have MacCormack backing up. That's enormous size and depth, and I think we'll own the paint on both sides of the court. Dotson is well known for being an excellent on ball defender. Add in Garrett, and you have the potential of a true lock down defense. I'm not sure how good Grimes is defensively, but being 6'5" sure doesn't hurt. If Grimes is simply adequate, we are a lock down defense. If Grimes is a good defender, then we could be looking at a top 3 defense.
I see a team that will be far superior defensively than what we've seen in years around here. Our size will be astonishing down low. I think we will be able to count our losses on one hand. I think we'll have a good shot at a repeat Final Four. I'm not sure Bill has ever had two 5 star guards to work with ( other than 2008, and that worked out pretty well), so we might see some very rapid improvement the 2nd half of the season. This could be a complete juggernaut at some point next year.
@BShark I will bet that practically every talking head/writer has made just as bad predictions as that clown. It's what they do.They are educated way beyond their intelligence. Professional know nothings. Mirotic, along with the Rondo resurrection, and AD finally becoming the true focal point has made the Pelicans into a better team than when they were running the twin towers before Cousins got hurt. Thank God Dedric can shoot a 3, or I might say the same thing about us next with a Doke/Dedric stack.
@Crimsonorblue22 Embid is smarter than most players he faces. To me, he is simply on another level pushing levers, and getting inside other team's heads. He plays his opponents like a violin. Then he stomps them on the court.
There's no jealousy like Missourah jealousy.
I'm going with John Wall to go off tonight in the Wizards first home playoff game. Their back is against the wall, So Wall will ball, and that's not all. I'm also going with the Greek Freak to really just dominate the Celts tonight. Yes, it is hard to fade LEbron, but I figure his ownership will be sky high, and Giannis could do just as well as LEbron, if not better, and Giannis DK salary is cheaper, which allows me to roster Wall.
LEbron has to score 46 for the Cavs to win by 3. Perhaps I could stack some Pacers tonight on Draft Kings.
@JayHawkFanToo Sexton was suspended 1 game. Ayton didn't miss a game. The only player that sat out in the 2nd round of the name drop was Eric Davis. I don't think Silvio misses a minute of time.
@BShark Sooo....do they still want to play us now????
