Well we cannot go into OT. Would not be good

Lol ball don’t lie. And that shit wasn’t even close 😂😂😂

Lmao that ticky tack call after all this contact?

Harris has been awesome tonight

Ball is sticky. Our guys look tired

When’s the last time we got Dick a good look?

Alright JWill. Time to be POTY

Like MJ as the sub a lot today. Bigger and athletic enough to compete with their guys

Would really like to see Bill run a play to get Jalen a look at 3. But I’m kind of scared he won’t shoot it… Guy seems shook

We are up 10 if we’d quit throwing it directly to them

You’re going to have to play guys with 2 fouls Bill. This lineup sucks too badly not to play one of Wilson or Dick

The only team I feel strongly that should be in that isn't "in" is Charleston.

One bad loss all season. Only 3 total. I really think they deserve an at-large if they don't win their conference tournament.

@Woodrow Interesting... Will be something to watch early then.

Just nice to know we have that up our sleeve if we need it in March too.

The Artist Fomerly Known As 'Bubble Watch' • Feb 20, 2023 05:51 PM

UK Remaining Schedule: @ Florida, Auburn, Vandy, @ Arkansas.

Seems like Kentucky might have "found it" but I also think they just matchup well against Tennessee. Plenty of time for them to screw it up, but they've played themselves onto the good side of the bubble. 80% chance they are in at this point.

UNC Remaining Schedule: @ ND, UVA, @ FSU, Duke

UNC has to win out, and probably make it to the ACC Tournament championship to have a shot. 5% chance UNC makes it.

Wisconsin Remaining Schedule: Iowa, @ Mich, Pudue, @ Minn

I really don't get the Wisconsin love from the Bracketology guys. Not really any great wins aside from Marquette. 15-11 should not get you in the tournament. The Nebraska loss and the Rutgers loss should have them out imo. 10% chance they get it. I think they drop 3 more games and you can't have a 14-loss at large.

Duke Remaining Schedule: Louisville, VT, NC State, @ UNC

They are in. And probably as an 8 or 9 seed. Would require an epic collapse to see them out. I'll be rooting for it tonight at 6PM lol.

WVU Remaining Schedule: OSU, @ KU, @ ISU, KSU

I think WVU should be out. 15-12 is just not a tournament resume. They have no good non-con wins. They are 4-10 in league play. I do not understand them being a "last 4 byes" at the moment. Should be out. I think ultimately they need to win 2 of the final 4 and maybe 2 more in the conference tournament to get in.

Happy to discuss any of the other teams on the bubble.

I wonder if we do the same thing we did the 2nd half defensively against Baylor.

Put Juan on Miles and Kev on Miller. No switching from those two and deny them the ball. Make someone else beat you.

2022-23 stats-PER, Kenpom etc • Feb 20, 2023 04:24 PM

Honestly, winning out (would need a big win tonight) the regular season probably guarantees us a #1 seed.

Wouldn't hurt my feelings if Bill rested some guys in the Conference Tourney after that. Bill did that with Dave last year, only played 10 minutes in game 1, 13 minutes in game 2, and then played the championship fully.

Bobby, Joe and Rice get a lot of run in the conference tourney if that #1 seed is locked up makes a lot of sense to me. Rest Kev and Juan.

How 'bout we simma down on a thread that has been fun and pretty active? Take it to the DMs if you need to.

Bubble Watch • Feb 20, 2023 03:23 PM

It is actually funny how embarrassed you'd have to be as a UNC fan. #1 preseason to missing the tourney is something fan bases will troll you about for YEARS.

Also this is a reminder that legacy hires may not be the best route to go when replacing Bill...

@BShark

Right now, Kenpom's 12th ranked team in the Self era. The teams closest to that all won the Big-12. Tourney- 2nd round, Sweet 16, Final Four appearances.

Definitely on an upswing. Feels like earlier on this team was closer to the worst teams of the Self era.

TBH their numbers are still a bit behind where I think this team is. The last 4 games have shown that.

Yea what a weird squad this year. At times, they could beat anyone in the country by 20. At other times, it feels like they could lose in the 2nd round.

I really don't know what this team's kryptonite is other than playing a team with some athletic wings (think Timmy Allen). I'm a little worried about facing another dominant big man, but I also think that KJ's ability and Udeh's development makes me not nearly as worried about that.

Sort of former jayhawk update • Feb 19, 2023 11:04 PM

@AsadZ I’d put my money on Dotson probably…

I love that Bill just showed Scott who was boss.

Quit switching in the 2nd half, despite not doing it all season 😂

Can confirm

@DanR said in Father Bill vs his Large Adult Son Game Thread:

could be worse

It feels like we played okay. They’re making everything they are throwing up. And JWill can’t find anything.

We do need Juan to get more aggressive.

@Crimsonorblue22 I believe it is about security more than anything. The more teams that are in, the B12 is safer. Just my thoughts.

Thoughts on the Baylor Game • Feb 16, 2023 10:11 PM

Just play good D, and don't beat ourselves on the offensive end.

Baylor is the 78th best D according to Kenpom. Game plan is simple. Man tf up on D, and then play our game on O.

UK escapes. Got lucky on a no-call travel with 8 seconds left to save them.

I watch most of UKs games... I watch a lot of D1.

They have ZERO discipline. Sometimes I think the team only reacts when Tshiebwe screams at them... (he should talk, lol). They completely lack leadership. The only thing that ever bails them out is 1-on-1 play.

There are a few knowledgeable Kentucky fans and they will post something intelligent... then they get smacked down by the single-cell herd.

Makes me really appreciate the quality of our group here!

I would say Cal’s belief in Wheeler was the detriment to this team. Hard to win without a PG who is a leader.

Bubble Watch • Feb 16, 2023 01:19 AM

Like so many UK games this season, they look like the better team. Yet they make dumb enough plays to keep the other team in the game

Other games • Feb 16, 2023 12:57 AM

@drgnslayr i think Louisville would embrace him. KSU fans are looking for a reason to not like him. Louisville fans would support him in anything he wanted.

@BeddieKU23 I have to agree on the Louisville piece.

That job honestly has Sean Miller written all over it.

@BShark said in Bubble Watch:

@Kcmatt7 Make or break stretch for UK, not even kidding.

After the MSU roadie they have Tennessee in Rupp, at Florida, Auburn in Rupp. Gotta think they need to go 2-2 there.

I think that is probably accurate... I think they need 4 wins these last 7 games to still have a hope. Anything less and I have to think they're out.

Bubble Watch • Feb 15, 2023 06:02 PM

We have a DOUBLE BUBBLE.

Kentucky is in Starkville tonight in what is a must win game for both teams. Joey Buckets has MSU IN and UK OUT right now...

MSU is favored by 3. This MSU team is riding a 5 game winning streak and is much better than their 5-7 conference record. Kentucky just looks broken at the moment. One team feels like it is playing to get in, and the other is trying to stop the bleeding.

My brain tells me that Kentucky is going to snap out of it and go on a long win streak to finish the season. But I just don't think they have guys that can guard well enough to do it. Cal refuses to make an adjustment on the way UK defends the pick and roll, and thus they continue to give up easy buckets at a high rate.

Should be a fun one to watch. One with a "March Madness" vibe to it already, imo.

Bubble Watch • Feb 15, 2023 03:49 PM

In all fairness - Kenpom ALSO has St. Mary's ahead of KU.

I don't feel like NET ruins the tournament committee seeding process, so I don't really care. It is only one factor, and really meant as a tie breaker from what I can tell. I.e. UNC getting in over UK because UK lost to a Quad 4 team.

2023 Coaching Carousel • Feb 15, 2023 02:55 PM

@Crimsonorblue22 Yea I guess I'm just thinking of P5 jobs. Going to be a ton of small openings to track.

@benshawks08 I'd love to see Coach Prime, but nobody who abandons the B12 should be allowed back in it. Just my thoughts.

Other games • Feb 15, 2023 02:54 PM

@BShark The level of recruits he is able to talk to vs. Weber or Martin is a clear indication that he could really do something in the long-term. But that is also why I think he ends up somewhere else that gives him the ability to recruit into the top 25.

I really think Louisville makes a ton of sense for him, either this year or next. I also low key think Notre Dame should try to make a move to get him. He would be a phenomenal culture fit at Notre Dame...

2023 Coaching Carousel • Feb 15, 2023 02:50 PM

@cragarhawk I sort of think if I am the AD, it is a no brainer to promote him. From a "keep my job" perspective promoting Terry is sort of a "free hire" where you won't get that counted against you.

At the same time, UT being the big dog this hiring cycle means they should probably go handpick their guy. Go get Oats before UK does, go get Tang, etc.

This is their chance to make the big hire.

Hamilton of FSU plans to return FYI, but he may have some pressure

Good to know. I feel like both him and Boeheim could go any year at this point (and probably should).

I'm okay adding any of the below:

  • UConn
  • Arizona
  • Arizona State
  • Oregon
  • Washington
  • Memphis (Really thought they would get in instead of BYU)
  • Utah
  • San Diego State

Colorado can die in the Mountain West as far as I'm concerned.

Potential Openings:
- Texas
- Washington
- Arizona State
- Stanford
- Louisville
- Georgia Tech
- Ole Miss
- Georgetown
- Cal
- Oregon State

Known Openings:
- Notre Dame

Potential Retirements:
- Florida State

The only "Big" job that could open this offseason looks like Louisville if they want to end that experiment early. My guess is they do if they can get the guy they actually want.

Anyone know if UT is just going to promote Terry or do they go look for a replacement? Seems like it would be hard to fire a guy who's done so well in Beard's absence. At the same time, you have to believe Terry can recruit and be a program builder. Otherwise move on and go get your guy when there is little to no "big boy" competition out there.

UT essentially is the best job that could be open all offseason. They can handpick who they want. That might not be the case in a year or two if you find out Terry isn't the guy.

KSU fans are so funny. They've turned on Tang so fast lol. That dude is absolutely leaving as soon as he can.

Apparently sucking at basketball and chanting "F KU" anytime they can is vital to their identity as a University...

Kitties about to lose their 4th of last 5 conference games.

If the ball bounces the other way a couple of times early in the year they have a losing conference record…

This win should help the ole Kenpom ratings
