@approxinfinity I definitely need to hear more of the story here before I suggest Jaime Dixon did anything wrong.
BUT I would imagine the bigger role at play here is the ability to transfer without sitting. Moreso than NIL. Just my thoughts...

Mostly dunks in these videos but from what I've heard good shooter, solid handle (esp for a guy we will ask to play the 4), above average athlete. No real elite trait right now.
Lmao Bill really just going to roll the ball out with Juan and 4 athletes next year and dare you to beat him.
Regarding Marcus Adams, he's really going to fit in that 3rd wing/Rebounder/break starter role that Jalen has played the last two years. Love that he has some bounce. His stroke looks high and quick. I do think he's lacks lateral agility. He's going to struggle to create his own shot at this level, but luckily he will get to play with Juan and KJ who will do a lot of hard work for him. Question for him will be can he defend at this level as a freshman. Long-term, he basically is a lock to be a stud.
The thing they are really missing next year is just a guy who has proven he can shoot at this level. Low key think Zeke Mayo fits perfectly now if they can actually get him...
PG: Harris-33/Elmark - 5/Bobby - 2
Wing 1: Elmarko - 25/Johnson - 10/Yesufu - 5
Bill needs to put the full court press on to keep Rice, imo. Hope that relationship isn't beyond repair. I really think if you can get some steady scoring from Mayo and Rice the freshman will collectively provide you with the rest of what you need.
On paper, this is a stellar roster. They obviously lack experience, but it helps having Juan. You could theoretically still be starting a Senior, two juniors, and a Sophomore. Not "young" necessarily. But not "old." Providing you get Mayo and keep Rice. Both things I would consider up in the air.
I do think this sort of puts us in a box with KJ and Udeh. Not sure there is going to be a better option on the market in the post than those two next season.
Good stuff tbh.
@BShark I can't find much tape on MA jr. Can you post some?
@dylans I am by no means encouraging the Chiefs to start Thuney out there. Just saying that if it happened, it isn’t the worst thing in the world. I think he’d be “good enough.”
I think Prince or Niang could be the answer. But I wouldn’t bet on either today. If they don’t add an OT and are betting on those two, you at least have Thuney.
If I were guessing what the Chiefs actually do, they either bring Fisher back or go get Taylor Lewan.
@Crimsonorblue22 I would personally never be in favor of hiring a KU grad to do the job. I think it makes it too hard to fire them if you need to.
Georgetown should have fired Ewing three seasons ago.
@cragarhawk said in Who would ever replace Self?:
@Kcmatt7 you put alot into that. Idk If I know too many of them. But Nice work. I don't think atm I'm interested in Otz or Hoiberg.
Trying to be overly optimistic that Self hangs out way longer than he has said he wants to coach
That is really just scratching the surface. And I think Self has 5 more years. By then who knows who moves up the list.
Other names that could be on the list by then:
@Jethro is pretty much correct though. I do tend to think we will get one of our top choices.
The benefit the Chiefs have is that literally in a worst-case scenario they can slide Thuney out to LT and still have an above average LT. So unless you can get a deal with Orlando Brown you like, let him walk.
Time for Veach to get creative. I'm confident he will.
@BShark That one will be a fight, and I'm not sure it is a need for us is it?
I'm just saying that Shrewsberry might be the most fun of the bunch. Coached for Brad Stevens at Butler and in Boston.
Penn State has shot the 10th most 3PT shots this year, and is 11th in 3PT%. That offense he has going there is COOKING. 17th in the country according to Kenpom. Imagine what he could do with some even higher level dudes... No alma mater. I think my only fear would be him wanting an NBA job, but that will be the case for anyone who takes this gig.
I'm guessing he takes a little step back next season, but then starts cranking out 23+ win seasons like they're nothing.
Names that could interest me not necessarily in a particular order:
- TJ Otzelberger - Age 45
- Wes Miller - Age 40
- Tommy Lloyd - Age 48
- Kevin Willard - Age 47
- Micah Shrewsberry - Age 46
- Chris Collins - Age 48
- Ryan Odom - Age 48
- Buzz Williams - Age 50
- Fred Hoiberg - Age 50
I really like Wes Miller. We'll see how he does in the gauntlet next year. I'm scared to hire him though until the Hubert Davis experiment is over. Do not want to get Roy'd. Otz has some "personality" concerns. Bit of a hot head. A young Bill Self, but in a whole new era of college basketball. Maybe not the best mix. Tommy Lloyd would obviously be a home run hire, but to me it is a long shot to get him out of Arizona. Shrewsberry coached under Brad Stevens for like 9 years. Coaches a very modern style of ball. VERY interested in him.
Everyone else would not be my top choice. I could live with the hire, and I'd understand the hire. I just wouldn't LOVE the hire.

The spitting thing is ridiculous. And who knows what all else. And who knows how he really said that to the kid or kids. There's definitely ways it could have been said that should end with his firing.
I do kind of hate that all this comes out on the heals of a "less than stellar" season for them and maybe they need the excuse? Idk. Sometimes those things just appear that way
Yea, I will agree this does have a bit of a "Mangino firing" stench to it. If they were a top 5 seed in the NCAA tourney, does he keep his job? Maybe. Maybe not.
I'm not out there looking, but if players aren't sticking up for him publicly I think that'll say a lot about who he is as a coach and person.
If syrup is the go-to example for how out of control the culture war around "canceling" is I think we're in better shape as a society than we realize...
@BShark Isaacs has the "it" factor. You hold your breath everytime he shoots because you think its going in. Probably a better fit at a place like Miami or UNC where they just roll the ball out and play.
Go read Ephesians 5:22 to your Wife the next time she's upset and tell me how that goes. I'm sure she won't get offended because it is simply just the bible you're quoting.
Context be damned.
@BShark I mean that is a good team that just didn't quite get it done this year. I'd definitely be making calls.
I'm interested in Isaacs if he's willing to openly compete. Tyson can do everything you'd ask him to, and would fit right in. Aimaq proved he can do it against good competition. Batcho would be the best true big man on our roster right this second.

It's a shame. Guy basically waited his whole life for this opportunity and it took him 2 years to squander it.
@Jethro said in Bright Points From The Texas Game...:
Bad habits left over from the Tech game. JW + Juando = 52% of the total team shots. 9 for 30. No passing. All one on one. Joe took more shots than Gradey. The early clinching allowed us to cakewalk. We were walking zombies- no energy, no fire in the belly. Here's the good news: these guys have bought themselves 4 days of pure hell from Bill. This terrible loss could be a springboard that reenergizes the team. Hopefully, we're now through the personal accolades part of the season, and we can get back to playing together as a team. Maybe even pass the ball, and move without the ball, etc.
To me, I think it is time for Bill to take a step back and get this team playing "fun" basketball again. Free and easy ball. I don't what they need is to get drilled by Bill for 4 days.
He needs these guys to get some confidence and swagger back on the offensive side of the ball.
The guy who looks like he's coaching in the 1960s also talks like he's coaching in the 1960s. Shocked I tell you. Flabbergasted. Stunned.

Imagine staff finding a way to land him and Canaday. I'd die haha.
@kjayhawks last years team had more room for error I think. Bench was significantly better…
Reality is that KU is an early exit if they can’t start making some 3s.
UT defended well, and I didn’t feel like we got a ton of great looks. But WVU didn’t defend us well and we still clanked a bunch.
We’ve got to find that mojo to make a run. Grit only gets you so far. When a team makes shots (like Texas yesterday) we can’t hang. Going to need a gift from the basketball gods to repeat I think.

I fully expect to get NC as an 8/9 in our bracket
I think I'm okay with that lol.
KSU has worked their way up to a 2 seed according to bracketville. Would be in Des Moines with KU. Going to be a HOT ticket if that holds up.
B12 would have 4 of the top 8 seeds in this bracket.
Imagine that dude running down on a kickoff 😂
Phelps is going to make a roster. He looked like the best player on the field some games last year.
@DanR said in Renovations to Allen Fieldhouse:
Please, please, no LED lightshow idiocy
I would imagine Allen Fieldhouse will be fitted with the highest quality lighting available... Whether it will be used for games is yet to be seen.
If they put in an AC, they'll be able to use Allen Fieldhouse a lot more. So having high-end lighting for other events would be a good thing.
@Crimsonorblue22 The Frankamp thing worked out best for everyone. Would be curious if we end up landing DG if we have CF on the roster still.
@BeddieKU23 I think his ability to rebound and run should be pretty valuable to some NBA teams that value playing fast/positionless basketball.
Probably overdue at this point.
Last updates:
2009 - They updated the Booth Hall of fame. They widened the concourses, upgraded the restrooms, improved the locker room/film room/training room/player lounges. Added the bridge to the parking garage. Nothing major in any of this. $7.8M renovations.
2005 - They added the Booth Hall of Fame. Added the current hardwood, added the current video board and sound system.
So it'll basically have been 20 years since we updated the court or scoreboard. I would expect both of those to happen. I think the bathrooms need updated. I think the concourse could still improve quite a bit. Another update to the player's area is due to keep up with the arms race. Will certainly be interesting to see...
@approxinfinity This great lol.
I have essentially blocked that entire season out of my mind at this point. Such a hard team to watch. So young. And I will always be sad we never got to see Embiid dominate the tourney like he was destined to.
His 72 blocks as a freshman was the most by a freshman ever in KU history (at least according to Sports-reference) by 10. Eric Chenowith has 62 in 39 games. Embiid did that in 28 games (though roughly the same amount of minutes played).
Just think about how good Embiid was starting to look, that NBA scouts basically accepted he wasn't going to play for at least one year (if not longer), and he was still the #3 overall pick.
Side note: that 2014 draft was insanely talented.
Wiggins (17.1 ppg)
Embiid (33 ppg)
Marcus Smart (11ppg)
Aaron Gordon (17 ppg)
Julius Randle (25 ppg)
25 of the 60 players picked played 7+ years. It's going to have 3 MVP awards at least (Embiid should be frontrunner this year, but Jokic could threepeat). Just a phenomenal draft class.
@Kcmatt7 I'm not saying this is the optimal situation fwiw. But I'm certainly not worried about it the same way others are. You can't sag off of KJ the way you can a regular big because he is a great passer and can actually dribble the ball.
I also don't think you will see Udeh play more than 20 mpg next season. So we are talking at most like 12MPG where this would be a thing? He won't be able to stay on the floor longer than that. Pretty sure he'll still be a foul machine next season.

I hope we can find 2 wing scorers, that's what this team will need unless Kev returns.
I was going to edit again and comment on this more.
I think it's likely the staff is pretty happy with our post situation. If Zach goes you probably portal for a guy but KJ/Udeh/Zuby is a nice group. The big thing is Jalen and Gradey are leaving so we need shot takers. With the scholarship reduction down to 12 it really is hard to find room for a developmental big. Plus Evans might want to play immediately as well. The primary focus has to be the starting 4.
Is it an impossibility that KJ works on his shooting and steps out to the 4?
I really don't understand this idea that KJ can't be effective at the 4 unless he can shoot the 3. He has range to the free throw line and creates amazingly well on the short roll. Bill was able to find ways to get Marcus Garrett downhill. I think he can probably do the same for KJ...
To further my point, KU is 250th in 3PA this season. And not particularly effective at a .354 mark (thanks Gradey). On the contrary, we are 51st in 2PA on the season. Teams don't even really guard Kev from 3. It isn't like we are watching an offensive juggernaut this season. We are watching a team that passes the ball exceptionally well, runs in transition well, and plays very good defense. I don't know how KJ at the 4 changes any of that.

I really like them. The warmup tops were cool too.
The B12's strength has me looking at the last times conferences got 8 or more teams in. To me, there is a lot of pressure for the B12 to perform well in the tournament if we continue to tout the "grind" of the B12.

2018 ACC has to be the funniest, and most disappointing result from a conference ever lol. Hope the B12 doesn't do that...
Right now, B12 has 8 teams projected in with the following seeds:
- KU 1 Seed
- Texas 2 Seed
- Baylor 2 Seed
- KSU 3 Seed
- ISU 3 Seed
- 6 TCU (Dangerous 6)
- 11 Oklahoma State
- 12 WVU
The years that a conference had 4 or more teams with a 4 seed or better they finished no worse than a Final Four. The closest comp to our seeds is probably 2010 Big East, and they SUCKED. All of this to say, a FF appearance by the B12 is almost a lock if these seeds hold. Especially with this TCU team at 6 being dangerously underseeded.
Of note though - current projections have the B10 getting 9 teams in, and SEC getting 8 as well. However, seeding-wise the B12 should have a bit of an advantage.
A lot of talk about Tech on the bubble, but I don't see it. No good wins in the non-con. Tbh, WVU probably shouldn't get in either. But at least they have wins against Florida and Pitt in the non-con.
Just hard for me to believe a 5-10 conference team should be in the field.
@BShark And that is with Jalen struggling... He's shooting 36% from the field on 64 shots during this stretch and 23% from deep.
It feels like this team is SOOO close to clicking 100%. Kevin is finally back to being the gritty ball player we know he is. Gradey's shot is back. DaJuan has found a nice balance of scoring and passing. KJ continues to just be Mr. Consistent. Udeh has found a way to contribute. The bench guards have all been playable.
If we can get the good JWill back for the tourney we are a legit contender.
@KirkIsMyHinrich if you watched the game I don’t know how you come away thinking Baylors D is what lost them the game tonight.
Could have been better. Sure. But they didn’t look like the best offense in the country tonight.
@KirkIsMyHinrich not the issue tonight.
They can’t score tonight
@BShark said in Other games:
We broke Baylor.
They are hardly even running offense right now. Drew just asking his guys to jack up shots.
I don’t get it. Guy is just literally asking his talent to save him.
He's got to win the league outright for me to be convinced.
Terry should be up for it. Tang should be up for it. Oats would have if he wasn't on the verge of turning the Alabama program into 2000 Baylor. Could make an argument for Painter as well.
But that is essentially the list. If Tang wins out and keeps that team to 7 losses pre-conference tourney he should get it. But they could easily drop 3 of these next 4 games. Baylor favored tonight. And then they still have to go win in Stillwater and Morgantown.
Bill will have to do something special to pass up K for GOAT status. Just the truth, whether we like it or not. If anyone were going to go back to back to back it would be Billy Eugene.
I don't know. That 18-19 team with a healthy Doke could have made noise. Then you had the Vick drama to go with it. The talent was there to be good.
The 2021 team was BAD.
TCU is 353rd in 3pt% out of 363 teams lol.

They simply cannot shoot the 3. Miles included. Huge reason the computers don’t love them
Would love to see Houston drop one. Want that 1 seed in the Midwest
So, why is JWill broken? Fix him Bill
I think this TCU team makes a nice run in th tourney.
Not a lot of teams that will be able to run with them. Their Achilles Heel is just that they are a bunch of brick masons.
Kev, you have been the man lately
