Jared Casey for a clutch 3 yard catch. What’s new?
Offense this drive looks SHARP
Biggest disappointment so far has been a couple of mental error penalties. I don’t care if we can’t matchup physically. Just play a clean game
If the offense can keep up I think the D will get going. Took a great catch that drive on 4th for WVU to score.
But that might be asking the offense to do too much.
ND goes down. Rough start to the Freeman era
Vandy*
SEC looks weak at the moment.
Bama almost lost. Candy got spanked. Tennessee down early. Mizzou spanked. App st. Hanging with A&M early.
KSU beats Mizzou like a drum.
The Duke vs Northwestern game was a great finish. Duke looks better than I thought they would.
Can get another look at Houston right now against Tech
@KirkIsMyHinrich if UTs starter doesn’t go out I think they win.
@wissox Pizza shuttle will never go under.
I am really sad to see Pyramid Pizza went under. That was my personal favorite in Lawrence. Many, many, many 2AM deliveries to my apartment.
I was very happy with how our guys looked week 1. They looked sharp in all phases of the game. Daniels looked as advertised. Neal looks even better than a year ago. I realize the level of competition was down, but this was still a sharp contrast from prior seasons.
As expected, we RAN THE BALL. I really think you are going to see us average 200+ yard per game this season on the ground. LL knows we won't win games slinging it. We will have to dominate on the ground and score with 8+ play drives that eat up clock. He's been able to implement an elite running game everywhere he's been. He'll do it here too.
While I though the offense looked fantastic, the defense really showed up. They only gave up 190 yards in total. Lonnie Phelps looked like an NFL player. Gilyard looked like a great pickup. It was a good showing for the revamped D.
WVU looked good in their 1st game despite the outcome imo. JT Daniels looked like a solid QB despite being under pressure all day long. WVU ran the ball for 190 yards on a P5 top 25 team. Freshman phenom CJ Donaldson is a FREAK of nature and is going to be tough to stop. 150th ranked TE moved to RB and was by far the best weapon for WVU all night.
WVU basically replaced their entire defense as well, and added some speed. They were able to generate 5 sacks, but I wouldn't expect them to replicate that same pressure two weeks in a row. Overall I thought their defense looked pedestrian.
We open as 13.5 underdogs, but I really don't think we are 13 points worse. We look like we can hang with them offensively. The question is who rebuilt their defense better over the offseason? If Phelps can show up like he did last week, and if Gilyard and Rich Miller can tackle at the LOS this will be a competitive game. If we let WVU run the ball like they did a week ago, it could turn ugly quickly.
Prediction: KU 28 - WVU 31
I'm expecting a hard fought game, but I'm not sure we will have enough defense to slow down the WVU run game and JT Daniels slinging the ball. Biggest thing is to play a competitive game and stay healthy. I think they can win their next 2 and be 3-1 before the rest of the conference games.
He looked like a wrecking ball all game. Loved the energy.
@Gorilla72 and that’s number was probably inflated by 20k
@FarmerJayhawk I thought they looked good. I do think they look vulnerable up front on offense. But we are going to have to score and tackle to compete. Daniels performed really well under pressure all night.
Hell of a game. Flipping to Penn st
WVU catching a big break with a Pitt injury TO
Oh thank god logic prevails.
WVU getting screwed on the fair catch too. Wow.
Oh no WVU lol.
Slovis is no Kenny Pickett
Penn State backup QB looks like he’s going to be a stud. Tough first drive, but holy canon
WVU is much improved. Neal Brown is a good coach.
Who finds the 150th ranked TE and turns them into their best RB as a true freshman? CJ Donaldson is an ANIMAL.
I was skeptical JT Daniels would be any good. He’s been solid tonight.
Probably writing in an L for the WVU game this year unfortunately.
lol I’m dumb idk y I thought CB was on the Jazz

CB and Och together???
Don’t know that I buy that as the main reason. But it isn’t going to happen so it isn’t worth discussing.
Just hope this time it happens. The KUEA Annual report should be somewhat telling if the money is actually there.
Put me in the still skeptical category. Hard to believe Goff came in and secured funding for the stadium in one year when other ADs have been trying for a while.
@FarmerJayhawk if there a reason why Sporting doesn’t want KU there? And vice versa?
It makes too much sense to me to do it.
I am not holding my breath. It has to get done but without $200M+ coming from endowment it won’t imo.
Capital planning is tough. They are building a new Cancer Center at the Rainbow location that is going to be very expensive (but necessary with the new designation). They need to knock down/renovate a few other buildings on campus.
The stadium needs done, but what I can’t figure out is why we don’t just play at Sporting until the money is there to do it right. Do a 5-10 year campaign and do it right.

I was surprised as well.
On O I was not expecting them to keep 4 RBs, Jones saved his spot with rushing perf. against GB. On the flip side they are going with only 5 WRs, perhaps they sign Fountain to PS.
On QBs, I was not expecting them to keep 3, it appears that they are very high on Sam B as the future backup and believed that he will be signed by another team.
Yea I expect Buchele or Henne to have an “injury” and go on the IR to free up a spot.
4 RBs is a lot. But you can do that when you’re TEs at so versatile that you only need 5 WR. Kelce and Fortson are basically WR.
This is a huge get for them if he can play 30 mpg. KSU has done well over the offseason, but I think they're in for a wake-up call come B12 play.
KU, TCU and Baylor are probably 3 of the top 4 teams. UT is going to have backcourt starting Marcus Carr and Tyrese Hunter while returning Timmy Allen. Tech lost really good players, but I suspect they'll still finish top half of the league.
Then you have the unknowns. Does Porter Moser get rolling now in his 2nd season? Does TJ put guys on the floor who can score in Ames this season? Does OSU take a step forward? Huggy landed some guys who can score the ball a bit this offseason. I expect them to be improved.
B12 is stacked again. KSU is going to be able to win some games, but to take the leap from last in the B12 to a tournament team is a big ask.
@FarmerJayhawk said in Fall Camp Thread:
3 wins should be the expectation. Anything more than that is gravy for me. Caveat being the losses are mostly competitive and not 49-10 drubbings every week.
I think it can even turn into a late “paper” drubbing as long as they are in the game through 3 quarters.
No games over by halftime should be the goal.
I will say that even if things don't go great this year and we somehow still only get 2 wins, I won't be discouraged. We all need to remind each other that this is still a really young team. Plenty of eligibility left for us to develop players. Just have to stick with the plan. No shortcuts.
@stoptheflop WVU, TCU, TTU and ISU could all be B12 wins imo.
I like where we are on Offense. I think we will run the hell out of the ball this year and try to control the clock. If the Defense can get stops, there will be a few games where the stars align and we get the W.
3+ wins this year and this squad lets people know they really are on the rise. VERY excited for this season.
@AsadZ The division is so tough and the schedule is brutal.
I’m going to say 10 wins.

@drgnslayr I really wanted to play Iowa. I was very confident.
I would have loved to see Bill Self outcoach Franny.
Rumor from a buddy is L.O.L.
I think we ought to leave the opinion on this to those with a uterus. (Almost) nobody here can understand what it is like. The changes your body goes through. The psychological toll it takes. The physical pain it requires.
Who am I to force that upon someone? How am I even qualified to have an opinion on it?

Bossi mentioned on 247 that Case was instrumental here. Called him one of the hardest working and well prepared assistants in the country.
I admit I didn't think he would take to the job so quickly. But it sure looks like he is the best recruiter on staff right now. I love having a guy who played at KU recruit for KU.
Refreshing to not have some weird secret QB competition going into Week 1.
Going to be a great fit. Love his size and length.
Pretty obvious he need to work on his shot. I think his first year might be a tough adjustment scoring the ball. A very right-hand dominant player from what you can see above. BUT the plus side is that he's so damn fast that even if you know he's going right you can't stop it sometimes. And then the Bill Self weave will let him come off of a screen downhill and let him get in the lane for easy buckets.
BIG get for the Hawks.
I think the signing is fine. Better than them doing nothing. But I don't understand why they paid that and let Ingram go when Ingram (at least until the contract details for Dunlap are out) was cheaper. Doesn't make any sense to bring a guy in during camp when you could have just kept Ingram who knows the playbook by now.
At least they tried to address the position though.

I got it. Let's just sign up all remaining teams that aren't in the Big10 or SEC... We'll form a 60-team conference and have more viewers than both of these conferences. All of our media will be built by Jay-Z. We'll figure out what we are doing later... lol
I've got a great name for that conference.

@Kcmatt7 Unless I read it wrong I read Self saying we're behind because our kids don't have agents and brand new cars which sounds like cheating. Has the landscape of college athletics changed so much that athletes are allowed to have agents and brand new cars? The way I read it is Self saying we've got to catch up in cheating since everyone is.
It has changed to be that, yes. Both Grady Dick and Jalen Wilson both have agents. They probably aren't the only KU players who do.
@wissox said in IARP update:
@BeddieKU23 That doesn't make Self look very good.
Would you care to explain how?
@BeddieKU23 said in IARP update:
I hate this move
Unless it's truly a penalty they are taking in advance I see zero reason to play this game
I would tend to agree with this. I am surprised we are even giving an inch at this point.
KU pulling Self and Townsend off the road recruiting. Will be 5 years since the news broke in September, which is crazy to think about. Hopefully this is the start of something the IARP/NCAA/KU agreed upon. Self and Townsend banned from recruiting for X years and then maybe a postseason ban or something for the coaches.

I am now actually taking Tang seriously.
I’m not until he wins some games. A 60th ranked player in 23 is more like a fringe top 100 in stronger years
Even if he is decent as a freshman, keeping him in Manhattan for 4 years with the new rules is easier said than done.

I’m a bit perplexed why Cal-Berkeley and Stanford are not considered in at least some scenario.
Honestly, if I look at Pac12 markets of value, I think you have to pick Wash, Stanford, Cal and Arizona. If I could add 2 more it would be Oregon and Colorado.
Those six would add prestige and major markets across the west.
Cal and Stanford want no part of the Big 12
Where do you think those two end up? Seems like they're in a really weird spot.
@bskeet said in Big 12 Expansion:
@Kcmatt7 I think Oregon is not the top P12 target because the market (Portland) is smaller than than the Bay Area, Seattle, Phoenix and Denver.
Not saying it's right. Just saying that everything about what's going on seems to be best explained through the lens of money/revenue.
It is definitely about TV sets. But Oregon has the best TV ratings by far in the Pac12.
It’s like OU. You don’t want the Oklahoma City market. You want the 1.5M-5M TV Ratings regardless of who they are playing. And that is what Oregon brings.

How is Oregon not THE top choice of remaining Pac12 schools? Rabid fanbase that crushes TV ratings almost every single week. Great programs in both money sports.
