AJ and Rylan are not playing good basketball and they are causing our struggles. They are not the only factors but are the biggest factors by far. I find that fact to be obvious. Is there anyone who disagrees?
I really think the three of KJ, AJ and Griffey are the main issues.
KJ has been a total non-threat offensively. The other two have not been very good. Flory and Coit need more run with how things are going.
It is a bit shocking to me we are still tweaking with the starting lineup and playing 9-10 guys meaningful minutes during conference play.
Very not Bill Self.
On the bright side he hasnāt just gone to a 7 man rotation and is still pulling different strings
@wissox said in West Virginia- a game finally:
@Kcmatt7 Funny thing is I'll complain about refs, like I still remember 1986 FF against Duke and getting hosed.
But today we got so many calls go our way today, nothing specific, but fouls and FTs disparity made it hard for me to point at the zebras.
The backcourt violation if you can watch again you'll notice the ref in the front court was right there and saw exactly what happened and I think it was the backcourt ref, not in the best position who anticipated the call and called it.
The play that flat out cost us this game was when we forced the TO with about 20 seconds and KJ inexplicably thinks he's MJ or DrJ and has about the same chance I'd have of making one there. I wish Bill had quick used the last TO, but KJ didn't give him much time to make that decision.
Kudos to WVU and their new coach. Big moment for them.
And I'm wondering what happened to this team who was on top of the world seemingly in November after beating Duke?
KU has been on the bad side of foul disparity all season and I havenāt felt like KU was jobbed. We shot a ton of floaters. Today Zeke got to the line and took it to the defenders. It isnāt unfair officiating.
Thinking foul disparity means bad officiating is silly.
Like absolutely this team needs to learn how to play in the first half. Not sure we deserved to win the game. But I canāt believe the calls missed late.
@kjayhawks said in West Virginia- a game finally:
@Kcmatt7 I couldnāt watch with work but listened to bits and the final minute. We shot 22 free throws to their 6, that stat lines are pretty even outside of shooting from the floor. In which Iām hearing Hunt, KJ, Juan and Zeke missed about 5 bunnies a piece. Just not sure how much I buy into the refs costing us.
WVU was shooting a lot of floaters vs Zeke driving it to the rim.
The back court violation was not one. Objectively. Cost us a possession. Blown call.
The foul that was a tie up should have been a tie up. Would have been KU ball.
The KJ āfoulā on the sideline was not a foul. Guy just went OB.
Iām 100% convinced that KJ was fouled on the final shot/possession.
All of this under 3 minutes to go.
Iām not normally a ref complainer⦠Absokute hose job.
Besides that, KJ is either scouted completely or hurt. Either way Flory needs big minutes moving forward.
Diggy needs more time.
Self NEEDS to figure out how to get Storr going and aggressive. Times he has a driving lane he passes. Times heās completely guarded he tries to drive/dribble.
Still not worried. Team has all the talent, just need to figure out a few more things.
Taking the nephew to this game. Will be his first!

Looking ahead, the schedule has two home games, Fresno St and Wagner(?), then 3 away games, Missou, Ariz and ISt, 4 home games, Utah, OKSt, KSt, Cinci, then the final 2 games away, TX Tech and Centr Fla. Wagner College is in Staten Island. Current enrollment is about 2000 students. The football team plays in a 3300 seat stadium. So, where can next year's team get 6 wins to be bowl eligible? This sucks watching KState, Nebr and so many other teams play in bowl games. I'm still butthurt by the Baylor beat down.
Wagner, Fresno, Utah, Cincy, OSU, and then just win a single one of the road games.
Also think that we get KSU this year. I think we can beat TTU on a good day.
We win 6 this coming season.
Honestly I think 10 or so are winnable. UCF under Frost doesnāt scare me. 2-1 non-con then weāll probably be favored in 5+ conference games? Arizona seems to be on a downward trajectory plus we should be favored in most home games plus at UCF. 6 is very doable and I think weāre a dark horse to get to Arlington as long as we finish strong in the portal.
I was more pointing to how we can get to 6. I have high hopes for this season⦠more than 6 for sure

@AsadZ said in Offseason Roster Thread:
KC, On paper at least do you think this team is better than last year's team?
Will be tough to replace Cobee, Melo, Neal and the WRsā¦.
But I think we upgraded at TE & LB.
Ultimately, we are probably slightly worse on paper. Thatās quite a bit of NFL-caliber talent lost. But there is so many unanswered questions they could just as easily be better.
I would just say that it is my firm belief if we just promoted Z and we have JD6 practice over the summer this team would have won 8+ games last season.
I would put next seasonās W/L line at 7.5 probably.
They continue to cook. Another OL addition with multiple years to play.
Staff has been intentional in adding guys with 3 years remaining on the OL. They know we need to turn the page after this season and are doing their best to be ready for that reality.
https://247sports.com/Player/tavake-tuikolovatu-46135945/ ā
Interesting to note why it was important to keep JD6.
Tulaneās QB who is a true sophomore is rumored to have a $4M/yr deal to go play at Duke for the next two seasons. You DO NOT want to need a portal QB. Tulane QB is a total stud but that is a steep price.
I think the OL has about 7 good bodies, but how they play them will be interesting
- Foster
- Mercer (transfer)
- Tanner (transfer)
- Baynes
- Clements
- Doiron
- Gorczyca
They added another transfer from NW Missouri that could become a guy, but I personally didnāt love his film. Plenty of other bodies on the roster who could also develop, but top two would be:
- Amir Herring (Michigan transfer)
- Darrell Simmons (got some PT this season)
I think they could add one more here but it would have to be a for sure starter type.

@Kcmatt7 Have an antidote for the koolaid handy. We were supposed to win the Big 12 this year. Sorry.
Yea I mean clearly a disappointing season but I still like our roster a lot. JD6 should come into the season much sharper than he did last season.
The best thing KU has going for it is solid line play on both sides of the ball. OL should be one of the best in CFB again.
DL should have Dunn, Caldwell, Keys, Miller, Jobe, Brooks, Brinkley, and Withers. I think theyāll add another edge in the portal.
I suspect we will be improved at LB, but worse at CB. Safety a bit of a wash.
Overall I think the roster ends up close to as talented as last seasonās. Continuity in the system is massive. Not having a mass exodus of transfers out is noticeable to me. Just feels like we are building something in Lawrenceā¦
Cannot be overstated how important keeping JD6 here to pitch recruits was.
Receiving corp is looking good. Pickett, Emillien, Wentz, Henderson, Burnett (TE)
I think they go looking for one more WR maybe, but tbd. Note that Hanika (TE) should also be back and he was going to get a lot of PT last season.
Needs are mostly met ant this point. Expect us to take some home run shots like going after Bryce Foster-type guys these next portal windows.
Really like how the team is shaping up⦠maybe Iām drinking the koolaid but we should be a good team next year.
Staff has absolutely cooked this offseason imo. Added some low floor guys and now a high ceiling addition.
Glad to see us find āthe guyā these last two games. Think we know who we want taking the final shot in a close game now.
Cats lose to Wichita state. 6-5 start. Tang experiment is looking like it is going to end this season if I were to guess.
I have to admit I both love and hate the portal. Fun to follow but the timing of it lacks logic.
@FarmerJayhawk said in Offseason Roster Thread:
Up to 12 commits now. The staff is putting in serious work in the portal.
A ton of young multi-year guys. Killing it with the OL additions imo.
Jahlil Hurley was a huge get. 3 years to play. Former top 50 recruit.
Staff seemingly doing good work thus far in the offseason
@Jhawk69 said in Offseason Roster Thread:
I see we added DeAndre Harper from SEMo St. The way I see it he can fit one of three categories.
He kicked so much ass at the D2 level that the staff thinks he can be a good player for us.
He was not that good but he has measurables, athleticism, and three years of eligibility left, making him a good project player.
He is not that good and doesn't have that much potential either, but hell, we need a body.
Anyone have any insight as to which one he is?
Little bit of all 3? Film at that level is decent. Huge human. Need bodies. Kind of a perfect storm.
@FarmerJayhawk said in Lubick back?:
Lance out here making sure last year is an anomaly
The way they bounced back this season only made me more confident heās a damn good coach. Most guys lose that locker room.
KUFB is going to win the B12 one of these seasons coming up.
Dude itās clear you donāt even watch the games.

@AsadZ Hunter hedging 30 feet left mitchell wide open for 3 and his man helped down on the big in the paint
Bill canāt comprehend 3ās versus 2ās and shooting + athletes in todays games
They have been purposely been leaving Mitchell open to shoot the 3 because heās a bricklayer
@kuballin10 said in Muck Fizzou:
@DanR Thatās bad
No Rylan or Zeke - shooters to shoot us back into it
We got it down to 3 lol.
@AsadZ said in Muck Fizzou:
I canāt think of any game where so many shots were missed at the rim
The last one? Lol
@kuballin10 said in Muck Fizzou:
I missed first half why is zeke not playing
Because he was terrible in the first hale
Coit is going to get real comfortable on the floor the rest of the season. Heās one of the best 5 players
@kuballin10 said in Muck Fizzou:
@Kcmatt7 Braun, Och and Wilson were proās
Let me know the proās on this team big guy
That was consensus preseason?
And last years team had no bench. None. This team has tons of talent to unlock
Can almost at least guarantee this teams layup misses will trend the other way for a few games. So many bunnies not going down.
@kuballin10 said in Muck Fizzou:
@Kcmatt7 Same team from last year with main 3 guys and yet u expect a different result
Cāmon man!
Same thing could and was said about the 21 team that became the 22 team.
@kuballin10 said in Muck Fizzou:
@Kcmatt7 You and @rcjhdraft are starting to see my frustration based on the results
Afh wins cover stuff but away from afh in March is what matters
Bills roster construction and value of certain things sucks for 2024
Nah I really think this team is still good personally. But this should definitely be a wake up call for Bill. Luckily happening early in the season tbh
Hunt has probably been taught since the 4th grade to not put the ball on the floor too.
I mean making shots also helps, bur starting on that end
We arenāt guarding Mitchell at the 3 anymore. And doing a good job of forcing Bates right.
Defense has got us back in jt
This would normally be a game you just throw the tape away. But you just did that with the Creighton game.
Bill going to have some soul searching to do
Whatās up with this Mississippi State guy?
Is Zach Clemente one of our best 7 players right now? It must be said. Sadly.
Juan, go to the damn rim. Enough floaters
Is anyone playing well?
Lid on the basket

Do we know if Grimes had 100% autonomy in playcalling by seasons end?
I noticed a pretty dramatic shift in presnap activity from the first 4 games to the last 8.
I think the team will surprise next season⦠Offense should still be pretty goodā¦Defensive line should be relatively okay. Todd will be good for one of the CB spots.
Obviously needs at WR, DB, LB and pass rush. A TE would be nice. Some OL insurance would be nice. I do trust the staff to land the right guys after these last few off seasons.
@FarmerJayhawk said in Offseason Roster Thread:

The lack of continuity sucks but this is probably one of those win-win situations for both Grimes and KU.
@FarmerJayhawk said in Offseason Roster Thread:
@kjayhawks just from the numbers I can see the appeal. We led the league in yards per play and were elite in the red zone.
Yea as much as we were in him early he really got it together.
Still wonder what went on behind closed doors and after the switch to the booth from the sidelines.
Confident we will be okay with out him but I get it.
