I don't know what to make of this. Ok, we've had a low rate of transfer. So far. Because there are no regulations, the whole team could transfer next year. It's a stupid system that yields inconsistencies and the best players go to the highest bidders.

Since the portal and NIL was a thing. At most you can count to 1 as far as players from last year’s team that left for money. Losing talent to bag chasers hasn’t and likely won’t be a massive issue for KU.

Every single team is dealing with this too. Like arguably the big programs have struggled to retain their depth more than they have stolen players from smaller schools. QB the only exception to this imo.

Has a team ever beaten one team by 50 points and lost to them in the same season? Can’t be.

First to 110 wins?

I would just remind people we won a Natty in 2022 and we’re favorites in 2020.

Fresh blood next season will be welcome, but let’s not act like the guy lost his touch already. You can’t even write off this season yet. A lot of basketball left.

It’s definitely Storr imo. Griffen doesn’t seem like he will be any more than what he is right now.

We talk a lot about Self getting to see what players do at practice. And we say that what we see in games in just the tip of the iceberg, incomplete data. We say this when kids are doing well and we think they deserve more time. It goes both ways. When kids underperform in limited minutes and then go to other P5 schools playing big minutes and shooting 40% from 3, it doesnt look good.

Selden’s shot looked broken. He spent several seasons cleaning it up. He never became a 40% 3 pt shooter. His eFG% his sophomore season was .461 and he averaged 29 minutes a game. Whites was .559 his sophomore season.

There was a role for White, Self just didnt see it.

Didn’t Brannen Green basically take the role from White?

Also, the staff wanted to keep White if I recall. But he wanted a larger role that we couldn’t give him.

Last but not least, there is a reason why he fit the Syracuse team. He wasn’t nearly as exposed as a defender in that zone.

And like I’m a huge Andrew White fan. I thought he was going to be a star here, and was very sad to see him go.

Tang dramatically underperforming with this squad. Better than I thought the cats would be based on their record.

Do you understand the "first or second mistake" you want Self to let them play through is more like the 100 and 101st mistake Self has seen from them including practice?

Idk I used to coach football and baseball and I made evaluation and playing time mistakes probably every season. I had my best WR riding the bench one season for the first few games because he was lazy at some of our early practices. Then he was so nervous when he would get a shot, he’d mess up.

Finally he had a guy go down in front of him, and I didn’t have anyone else to play that X spot and so he knew he was going to play every snap after that. Dude went beast mode because he wasn’t pressing.

It happens a ton.

Only thing I would say is they Bill has a very large purse to get “his” guys. NIL changes expectations, fair or not.

Bill has two of best scorers transfer in from the Big 10. Has a guy who scored 11 ppg from a FF team. A guy who dropped 22 ppg a year ago. The POY from Summit.

And we can’t fucking score.

We were always going to be underdogs this game.

This was always penciled in as a loss. So I’m not sweating.

I think the biggest issue is we aren’t running enough through Mayo.

We need to the ball to go in the hoop. Defense notthe issue. 20 points in a half isn’t winning anything.

KU has the 2nd best Transfer class in the big 12 and we are getting for it to be pretty late in the process…

Ha. It's just very hard to see at the moment. Right now, he's the worst player on the team probably. Bill gave him a make a wish start and heavier minutes against WVU and we see how that went. The energy is so much better starting games without him in the line-up. He just can't process a different role other than "middling volume scorer". He needs the ball in his hands and lots of shots to put up stats. That's who he has always been.

All that said he is being paid a lot so maybe both sides figure something out by the end of the season.

A shame but you can just see how uncomfortable he is in this system. Not good utilizing the pick and roll. Forces 3s at the wrong time. Gets torched on D constantly. Lazy passes.

He’s a shell of who he could be. It’s just how Bill coaches and sometimes it works great and sometimes it ruins a good player.

Some guys thrive under this scrutiny (Zeke, Coit, and Moore) and some guys need positivity and uplifting. Storr is a guy who thrives from being told how good he is. And Bill Self just isn’t the warm fuzzy father figure pat you on the back buy you ice cream kind of coach.

Thank God Bill went scorched Earth though and brought in Diggy and Shak. Guy said I need at least 10 playable guys because 1-2 of these dudes just suck every year.

I think this team is about to get really damn good. Starting five is figured out. Flory minutes will probably keep growing. Griffen looked pretty good last night. Zeke can be our “need a bucket guy”. Diggy can keep Juan fresh. Last piece of this whole thing is seeing the D crank it up one more notch. You see how well this team runs on a rebound right now. If we start getting a few more stops a game we are going to run teams out of the gym.

Shak Moore to get his 2nd straight start. Says he's still a bit sore after games but getting close to 100%. Might be the defensive upgrade this team needs going forward..

As @drgnslayr likes to point out, KU played with Tempo in the UCF game and Shak might have been a good reason for it.

Didn't imagine that Storr and Griffen would both be coming off the bench in conference play but here we are. Let's see if they continue to react positively.

This team looks better when they run. And they look their best with two guards combined with Flory and Hunter 2-big look.

Okay but using your own analogy they aren’t even off of work. They didn’t all go vacation in Cancun for 3 weeks. There is still structure they are adhering to.

The Chiefs won the Super Bowl resting Mahomes last season and went to the Super Bowl in 2023 after resting starters the final week.
