This is madness.
Are we not terrible at football anymore? The offense looks great tonight.
@BShark Agree, but Mac has to stay healthy/eligible next season and avoid being part of our annual big man curse or things could get iffy.
Something strange is going on behind the scenes everywhere. Some scenes are just stranger than others. I'm perfectly fine with a kid who wants Trae Young volume not attending Kansas.
A potential non-conference schedule that includes Duke, Michigan St, Villanova, Colorado, and Kentucky/Florida should teach us a lot about our team.
OSU isn't exactly a recruiting powerhouse so I don't fault them for doing whatever they need to do to land big-time recruits. They're playing by the rules. The Big 12 could use good players anyway.
@Marco I'm of the opinion that Wilson will play the most minutes of any freshman on the team and that he could spend a lot of time at the 4. And I think it makes sense to have Garrett come of the bench and spend a lot of his time playing with a stretch 4 rather than with De Sousa who is going to do a lot of his damage at the rim. I'm sure Garrett and De Sousa will have some on-court overlap too. However, I also think it's a mistake to finalize minute distributions for our freshman players in June. I don't think it's impossible that Enaruna or McBride get 10+ minutes next season.
I am pretty sure, however, that junior Marcus Garrett is going to get a lot of minutes either as a starter or coming off of the bench. Garrett played 19 minutes as a freshman and 28 minutes as a sophomore. I think that he'll be somewhere around his sophomore minutes again this season.
@Texas-Hawk-10 There is this thing called youtube? Is this a serious post? This is a joke. You know who else looked good on youtube? Quentin Grimes. To state conclusively in June that one freshman is going to get minutes over another freshman when the two players are similar in rank and neither has played a game in college is absurd. You have no idea how the minutes are going to play out at this point. Our head coach has no idea at this point.
This is worse than the time when you thought Cam Reddish being 100% healthy vs 80% healthy was going to be the difference in a potential game against Texas Tech.
@Texas-Hawk-10 How do you know? Wilson or Enaruna haven't even played a game in college yet. Maybe Enaruna ends up being better than Wilson. Maybe Braun or McBride end up being better than both.
@HighEliteMajor I agree with your post but I don't see Dotson playing fewer than 30 minutes per game next season (I'm thinking around 32 or 33), and so I don't see McBride getting more than 10 minutes per game unless Dotson goes down. Enaruna has more competition for minutes but he also has a lot of upside and I could see him playing his way into minutes off the bench, especially if Mitch takes a RS and Jalen spends time at the 3.
I think Wilson will play 10+ minutes regardless of whether or not Lightfoot takes a RS. I think around 15 +- a few minutes for Jalen. And I think Enaruna has a better chance of getting above 10 minutes than McBride (or Braun), but that depends more on Mitch. If I had to guess I'd say only 1 freshman gets more than 10 mpg next season and that's Jalen Wilson.
@BShark He was a puppy last season but you could see the talent and upside. He's going to be a good player next season and a very good player as a junior.
Sorry if this was already posted.
@FarmerJayhawk Moss starting and Garrett coming off the bench makes a lot of sense to me. Even an inconsistent Moss helps every other starter in that lineup on offense with the spacing he creates. Bringing Garrett off the bench with a rangier 4 than De Sousa (Wilson or maybe Enaruna) presents fewer issues with spacing and Marcus can handle the ball for a while if Dotson needs a break.
@FarmerJayhawk I like that minute distribution. I would say a little bit higher for Moss and a little bit lower for Azubuike who has never averaged more than 23.6.
You hope or he is?
@BShark Not to get too hung up on this, but the total minutes per game for last season's KU team was 247.8. Shit happens during the course of the season.
@BShark They are per game averages... It doesn't need to add up perfectly to 200.
Dotson - 32
Agbaji - 27
Moss - 25
Garrett - 23
De Sousa - 23
Doke - 22
Dave - 17
Wilson - 16
Mitch - 10
Enaruna - 9
McBride - 8
Braun - RS
I read an incredibly boring, acronym-laden 53-page PDF about the internal operating procedures of the NCAA Committee on Infractions today. It lists among a lot of other things the types of penalties the NCAA can impose on member institutions and the level of violations that would warrant those penalties, reconsideration of penalties, and the appeals process.
I would start on Page 37.
I don't think KU will receive a postseason ban, but it's hard to know because everything in here is so vague and open to interpretation. I would guess if we get anything that it will be a vacation of wins and records, but nothing the NCAA does would surprise me. Most people (even non-KU fans) were surprised at the severity of the penalty given to SDS. I could see the NCAA being like "Fine, Silvio is eligible to play in 19-20, but KU's not. 1-year post-season ban."
@BShark That's what I meant. I should have clarified. I think one of them will be, but all 3 have the potential. If I were betting I would say Agbaji, though.
@BShark This is probably right but I think the other 3 starters have the potential to be All Big 12, especially Agbaji.
@FarmerJayhawk If Doke can stay healthy, and if Agbaji can take the next step, and if Moss can be consistent, and if De Sousa can do... things, then that starting 5 can be the best in the country. Elite on both sides of the ball. A lot of ifs though, without even going to the bench.
@rockchalkwyo Not a dumb question. I don't know either.
Hurt is listed at 215 pounds and the scouting report on his recruiting page mentions that he needs to get a lot stronger. His ability to stretch the floor and shoot from the perimeter is going to be a problem, but he's also going to get manhandled by De Sousa if he goes anywhere near the basket.
I'd say Dotson > Jones and SDS = Hurt until we see both SDS and Hurt play in college this season. I would not be surprised to see De Sousa outplay Hurt early in the season.
Also that Kansas lineup = Sophomore, Senior, Sophomore, Junior, Senior
While that Duke lineup = Sophomore, Freshman, Freshman, Freshman, Freshman. And their bench kind of sucks.
Kansas by 12 in that one.
Apparently he who must not be named is with us in spirit.

Oh you 100% take a flyer on him. Just keep in mind he may end up as Justin Wesley.
Kevin Young with some nasty.
@BShark Weren't you just hype-policing me a few hours ago?
His handle looks pretty good for a 6'9'' guy.
@jayballer73 I've heard it'll be done via live streaming. He's going to gather all of his family and friends close to him for his announcement. Next he's going to arrange a Jayhawk, a Tarheel, and a Wolverine as corners in a large imaginary triangle. He will then decapitate a live chicken in the center of the imaginary triangle and follow that poor headless bastard to whichever school it chooses to run. But that's just what I heard.
@BShark My conservative estimate is that Silvio will average 20 and 20 next season while savagely dunking on each of KU's opponents en route to an undefeated season and a natty. I don't think my expectations are unreasonable.
Braun behind-the-back pass. Braun looking pretty athletic throwing it down in transition. Braun shooting 3's. Braun praised for being tough by teammate Ochai Agbaji. I like him.
Issac looks and kind of moves like Frank Mason.
Doke with the left. Doke with the mid-range?!?! Let's hope this is a positive sign for Doke with the two made free-throws next season.
SDS looks like the after picture in an Andrea Hudy Fitness Infomercial.
Dotson looks like the best player on the floor.

Ochai will be, IMO, the most improved player from last year.
Could be, he looks really good. He did start good last year though, I think Dave could be a candidate as well, even in limited minutes.
If Ochai can get comfortable dribbling and improve his ball-handling from last season then he will take his game to another level. His handle looked pretty good in this video and he was creating shots for himself and for other teammates. I've heard his shot has improved too.
I am the leader of the DMac bandwagon but I don't think he'll get the minutes to be most improved player for Kansas. I think he takes a big leap in 20-21 as a junior.
I think we'll be okay without him if that's what happens. I like the current roster a lot.
@FarmerJayhawk I tried to figure out what LFK meant for like a minute before finally giving up and searching the acronym via google. Maybe it's because you seem wholesome, and swearing doesn't bother me at all, but I was not expecting it to be what it was, even though it was very obvious.
Anyway... carry on.

"Just being here, getting coached by Coach Self, hearing his voice in practice kind of let me know Iβm actually playing for KU," Braun said. "Just the whole thing in general helped me realize Iβm actually here.β
Back on one of his weekly Hawk Talk shows during the season, the soon-to-be-17th-year KU coach made a strong statement about Braun. "Christian Braun is a winner," Self said.
What did Braun think about that comment?
βTo be called a winner from a guy like Coach Self who is one of the best and biggest winners in college basketball history means a lot, but I would love to be a part of what he does and what this program does because winning at that level is a lot higher level than what Iβve won at,β Braun said. βJust being called that means a lot, but I want to win at the highest level. I think Coach Self can help me do that.β
<3
He's saying all the right things. It's refreshing hearing a player who appreciates the mystique, tradition, and history of the program. I'm really hoping he turns out to be a good player for us in time.
I am really excited about Enaruna as a multi-year player. We'll see how he develops and fills out with Andrea but I like his potential. Same thing with McBride. Need to see how Braun looks playing against players with D1 speed and athleticism, but if he can handle it his shooting and height could make him an important player down the road.
I want Agbaji to start. I'm worried about Bill promising starting spots to recruits. I haven't seen Jalen play a game in college basketball yet. Maybe he is better.
Watch out! Gary Parrish moved us up from #12 to #7. Still has us behind Memphis and Maryland.
Starters - Devon Dotson, Isaiah Moss, Ochai Agbaji/Jalen Wilson, Silvio De Sousa, Udoka Azubuike
Bench - Marcus Garrett, Ochai Agbaji/Jalen Wilson, David McCormack
Deep Bench - Issac McBride, Tristan Enaruna, Mitch Lightfoot
Possible RS - Christian Braun
Possible Additions - Kyree Walker, Josaphat Bilau
I think Dotson and Moss will start in the backcourt. I'd start Ochai over Wilson but I don't know what Self has promised Wilson (if he comes to KU). Marcus needs to come off the bench because he needs to be on the court when Dotson isn't for ball-handling reasons. Also, Doke and SDS will be monsters down low for KU and they will be more effective with space. Since Doke only averages around 20ish minutes per game anyway, I think HCBS should try to insert Garrett into the game when Udoka comes out, and vice-versa.
Really excited about the experience, depth, versatility, and defensive potential of this team. Also we're pretty damn tall. Our shortest player is Issac McBride at 6'0''.
If Wilson commits who do you all think starts in the backcourt besides Dotson? I would like it to be Moss and Agbaji but I have a feeling that Jalen may start.

Self can go 8 deep without even playing a freshman. In today's landscape that's almost unheard of.
3 sophomores, 2 juniors, 3 seniors, and likely no one-and-done freshman. I wish I could up-vote your comment more than once.
So Kyree Walker to NZ is what you're saying?
@FarmerJayhawk I'd tend to agree with you. Isaiah Moss is kind of similar to Kyree Walker in terms of the skillset that he brings to next season's team - 3-pt shooting, ball-handling, and the ability to create his own shot. Dotson was over 36% from 3 last season, and I'm expecting Ochai to be a little bit better than the 30.7% he shot from 3 last season. So there's plenty of perimeter shooting in that starting backcourt.
We all know what Doke can do when he's healthy. He's already been mentioned a lot this offseason as a NPOY candidate and one of the favorites for the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar award.
Nobody really knows what we're going to get with Silvio next season but we're all expecting him to have an impact. Rebounds and dunks seem likely, but if he could also step out and hit a mid-range jumper it would help the spacing of the offense.
I'm getting major 2012 vibes from that starting lineup, except I think we'll have a lot more depth than that team did, especially if we add Jalen Wilson.
@BShark Any word on when it'll be official?

@KirkIsMyHinrich Raptors are very lucky this series. No KD, less than 100% Klay, less than 100% Iguadala, less than 100% Boogie.
Raptors are absolutely taking advantage of the situation and should be applauded for it because they are a very good team (probably would've beaten Lebron's Cavs), but they're also not getting anywhere bear the Warriors best shot.
Sort of the way the Warriors haven't been getting other teams' best shot in previous finals because the other team has had injuries? Or the way the Warriors didn't get the Spurs best shot in the 2017 Western Conference Finals because Zaza Pachulia stepped under Kawhi Leonard and he missed the series with an ankle injury? I'm familiar with the Warriors roster and of course it would be a different finals series if Durant was healthy, but I'm not feeling bad for Golden State at all because they've definitely been on the other side of that coin many times.
Also, the Warriors were the favorites to win before the series began. The Raptors were 2-0 against the Warriors in the regular season. The regular season game at Oracle the Raptors won 113-93, and that was with Durant going for 30/7/5. I don't want to hear about the Raptors getting lucky.
Raptors hardest series was against the Sixers apparently. The top of the East was just brutal this season.
@FarmerJayhawk Looking at Moss' stats and videos it kind of feels like we're getting Quentin Grimes back, except now he can shoot 3's and dribble.
