I dont follow football, like, at all. But I do know that Beaty has to go, immediately. Full stop. That guy, Long? He better give Beaty his well wishes and see you laters. Time to move the fuck on.
@drgnslayr Great honor for Ole Roy. Im happy for him.
KU needs to keep James Naismith court like it is. No matter where we are when Self finally hangs it up, the court name stays. I do think Self should be immortalized in there somewhere though. He absolutely deserves it.
Hey KU fans, Im about to go watch Joel Embiid play some exhibition ball. Get on over there too if you can.
PS. is it November yet?
@Woodrow THIS IS A FOOTBALL POST!!! IT BELONGS IN THE FOOTBALL SECTION!!! FFS PEOPLE, COME ON!!!
end rant.
@BShark Coach Self wouldn't have let him back on the team if he thought that was going to happen.
@Kcmatt7 We are NOT losing to 'Nova. Its at our place and we owe them one! AFH will be absolutely bonkers and that's a distinct advantage.
Nah man, I dont see a throttling coming. Both teams are so stacked this year and evenly matched top to bottom. Being at Rupp, we gotta spot UK a few points for that.
I think it will be a KILLER game. and yes I think KU wins.
Great article in CBS btw, I loved reading that.
@approxinfinity Belgium!
@approxinfinity interesting. I did not know that. Maybe they are gonna try to get on the same team again.
@JayHawkFanToo Your right, it just seemed surly to me at first glance.
One thing about @jaybate-1-0 though, and this is a personal opinion of mine having been following his posts since before this site started, back when we were all happily anonymous on the "other" KU site. Its that Jaybate posts topics on purpose to make us think about the game in all its myriad facets. Now, it might be a bit controversial at times and even down right silly like the above. But I do not believe he just fires off random topics and random questions without thinking about it. He's too cerebral for that.
@HighEliteMajor F*** yah! That's a great idea. Im out of state tho.
@Kcmatt7 How about Joe Montana in his prime. Can KU get that??
I mean for real guys, KU has about as good a chance at getting prime Montana as they do winning 2 games this season.
@KUSTEVE Stephenson doesn't have a respectable trey gun. Just saw some talking head on ESPN mention he was around 30% from three. That's laughable in the League. SVI should be near 40% unless they traded SVI.
Anyone know if they traded SVI??
@jaybate-1.0 Solid question but I agree with what that guy said, albeit in a less surly manor. Doubtful Lebron Puma.
Hell ya Doke starts. zero chance he doesn't.
Alright KU fans, I heard about Vick coming back yesterday and I was, to be honest, kind of dreading it. I didn't want him to come back after he had left the program. I still feel like he might screw up the chemistry of the team. The jury is still out on that. But, having read the quotes and the posts on here I think it could be a good thing. If Vick plays ball, so to speak, on and off the court and fully buys into what Self wants, this team will be so deep and so talented from the first tip of the first game until the end of the season. Im not predicting anything but it is not out of the realm of possibility that we could see another final four in '19.
We need to save this post and revisit when the season starts and again in mid December. Just so we can see who the prophets are in here.
I'll chime in too.
Yes I think Lawson will be a great player this season. Him and Doke
Charlie Moore might start the season in the starting 5 and give his starting spot up later to Dotson. And yes it appears he can shoot very well.
Remember KU fans, our backcourt this year is not as inexperienced as our backcourt in '14 with Wiggs, Selden and Frank. Grimes has already had some great experience this summer with Coach Self at the U-19 games and we have Garrett and Moore heading into their second years. We are far deeper than we have been in quite some time. The competitiveness within the team should help everyone get better and learn Self's system. We will be fine people. Quit freaking out!
DeSousa will play.
We wont have as many >40% trey shooters this season but I think we will have enough to be just fine. I'll list my probabbles. lol. (Moore, Garrett, Ochai, Lightfoot, Dedric and KJ.
Oh man, lets not talk about KU football. Im just trying to pretend its not a thing.
When's Late Night again!?!??
Seems like it gets earlier every season... lately anyways.
@jayballer73 Silvio is playing, and probly our 6th man, until proven otherwise. Rock Chalk!
@jaybate-1.0 Alright man, point taken very acutely. It does seem odd considering Self's success with trey ballers over the years.
Im still not willing to cry foul though. Not yet. Lets see what happens next season with recruiting and this coming season with all the guys we have right now. Im betting that we will have some guys break out in the post and in the back court that can shoot the 3 ball very well from deep.
Basically, lets just wait and see. Wait and see and gather some more info.
that's all. Good day Jayhawk fans.
Someone post a video!!!
@jaybate-1.0 Exactly. So, Dedric and Mitch can both knock down treys. The jury is out on the other bigs from deep. Your point is that it only works if both Lawsons and Mitch can defend shorter guards. I think they can, but I have no idea.
@jaybate-1.0 Dude! I have been MIA on the board lately. Its off season and the travel nurse life is unforgiving at times in terms of my basketball needs. Anyways, Im not sure what to say about your post here sir. Your math and your WWII historical references are over my head.
You make a reference about KU not being able to land trey ballers. Well, at least the high level 5 star kind any ways which is true but, I think its inaccurate. Devonte, Svi and Frank were great trey shooters and not one of them were 5 or even 4 stars coming out of highschool. (yah I know, Svi came from Ukraine) But still, the past two years of trey gunners at KU have been raised to be that way. We just lost all of our trey gunners from last year.
We did lose out on 5 star wings this year, I'll give you that.
But we have guys on the team that can shoot from deep. We will have guys on the team that can shoot from deep. Wings and Bigs.
Coach Self has a post heavy rotation this year. We all know that. Its probly the deepest post rotation he has had at KU. That includes the 08 roster and the 11 roster with the twins and Trob.
I firmly believe this season that coach Self has a new tool to add. Bigs who can shoot from deep. And, those guys will be athletic enough to guard out to the trey line and guard ball screens. We dont necessarily need >40% from trey shooters. 36% collectively from our bigs would probly do the trick. Lawson, Mitch,( we know those guys can shoot from deep right now) Silvio and McCormack haven't proven they can yet but if the need is there, I am betting they will. Hell, Im going to put Doke down here too. Even though I find it unlikely that coach lets him shoot 3's.
Im just not convinced yet that great shooting wings are being diverted away from KU. If we start seeing a trend happening then yah I'll buy into it. But, Coach Self has a recruiting advantage right now in the form of U18 USA Bball. Same as Coach K did when he had the helm there.
I also think we have guys on the team right now that can build up their shooting prowess the same way that Frank, Devonte', Svi all did.
Great post by the way.
Rock Chalk!
@JayHawkFanToo Go Warriors
Mitch is gonna be a beast this fall!
The kid can shoot too. Granted he didn't do it much but if he says his more normal position is SF then I have to believe he can bring a trey gun. Would he be the biggest SF we have had at KU? 6'8" 230 by fall, from what he was saying, is a goal of his.
Peeps on here have been lamenting our lack of trey shooters on this team. I think Mitch can bring that.
I am purely speculating but I think that Grimes and Dotson will be pretty good shooters from deep and I bet Garrett and Cunliffe will surprise us as will Charlie Moore.
We will have options is what Im trying to say.
Then add to it the deepest front court since 08.

@wissox I was referring to your post 4 days ago RE: is Bill Self a dirty coach?
I suppose I could have misinterpreted your intensions. It just read to me initially like you were calling him out for being corrupt or dirty.
Its all good man. I get protective of my boys. Its probly not wise of me to believe that KU will always have a halo over their heads.
@HighEliteMajor Those are very valid questions HEM. I appreciate that.
We should all know on this site, as long life KU fans, that Bill Self is highly intelligent, has been in the game for a very long time, under the tutelage of next level coaches and mentors and he is not naïve. Of course he knows there are payments to student atheletes.
I have no way of knowing, however, if Coach Self knew about the alleged payments to Josh or to Silvio or to Billy.
But, I sincerely believe that Coach Self is a man of high integrity and he would not willingly let something like that slide and risk damaging his own or the programs.
@BShark You call yourself a KU fan and yet here you are saying Bill Self is "dirty" and/or corrupt.
Coach Self has been a boy scout since he started coaching. Does he pay players? I seriously doubt it. If he did, why dont we have a mega stack of OAD 5 star players every season like UK and Duke? Hmm?
You and @wissox say he is dirty.
I say PROVE IT or GTFO.
No room on this website for haters.
@wissox NO
quick question for everyone. What was SVI's percentages at KU as a freshman?
I seem to remember he had troubles at the start.
Im confident that Marcus can improve enough in this off season to keep defenders from sagging or helping off him.
He's no SVI and im not claiming he will be either. But, to my untrained eye, his shot doesn't look terrible, it just doesn't go in. If the kid really puts up 2500 shots a day or more. Yah he should see some marked improvement.
PS. im not sold on Doke being gone. He isn't on any draft boards that Ive seen and neither Tait or Newell or Keegan seem to think he's gone. Silvio?? Not so sure about him yet. I hope he can stay. We'll need him but we still should have a deep enough front court without him next season
@BeddieKU23 yah. dammit
@jaybate-1.0 Doke's coming back Jaybate. Everyone knows he isn't ready yet. He's just doing this to gather info on what he needs to improve upon kind of like SVI did last season. Doke needs to work on his rebounding, work on his outside shot and free throw shooting and Im probly missing somethings that he needs to tighten up on. I dunno. but hes not ready for the pros yet.
@Statmachine machine made a great point about Silvio that I didn't consider. Basically if Self thought he would have been ineligible then he would have had him declare for the draft by now. Personally Im not sold on Silvio coming back either but we shall see.
And, Garrett. I really think that this summer he works like mad on his shot from deep and from FT. He will get much better. I'll bet on it.
@BShark Im just hopeful. I mean, hes not ready yet. He needs another year at KU. Hes not even listed as a second round pick RN is he?
@BShark Any possibility we can give one of our walk ons a Schollie?
Didn't we just get a walkon commit from someone like yesterday?
Hey there Jayhawks fans. Long off season ahead of us and Im wishing we had a chance to see our boys play this summer somewhere.
Anyhow, thought Id chime in. Everyone seems to think its a foregone conclusion that Silvio is gone. Im not convinced until I hear otherwise. Either way, I think we are fine without him. Doke IS coming back and we have McCormack and Mitch
I was worried about not getting Langford but we will be fine there too. Garrett with a year under his belt and a whole summer to work on his shot and his strength is more desirable to me.
We are going to be Deeeeeeep next season. forgettaboutit.
I just hope that Coach Self uses that depth and doesn't trim the bench to 2 or 3 deep when we can easily go 5 deep
@Statmachine I'll preface this by saying I do not follow football. Not even pro ball. But, I read that deal on Sozinski breaking up tackles and how much better he is after basketball conditioning.
It seems to me that the KU football team HAS to change the way they do things. They have to. I mean, they are the worst team in division 1 ball out of the power 5 schools. Hell, there are more mid major teams out there that would kick KU's ass than not. They have to change how they do things. They absolutely should pull inspiration and techniques from KU basketball. 100%
@Kcmatt7 BOOM!! Nailed it.
Who gives a flying F*** what ex slave state idiots like that think.
Bill Self's integrity and class are second to none. Period.
No way in hell would he do anything to tarnish KU's reputation or his own. No freeking way. He would rather saw his own arm off than do anything to hurt the university, the basketball team or his players or himself and his family. No way, I dont buy for one second that he is an idiot either. We have all seen how incredibly intelligent and well spoken that guy is.
Roy Williams was a freeking boy scout while at KU.
Bill Self has been even better.
@BeddieKU23 I love it when Bilas backs up KU. Some here dont tolerate his opinions too well but I kind of like the guy. He is intelligent, well spoken, appears to be honest. I love it when he goes to bat for Coach Self and KU. Especially since he is a Dukie.
Someone do me a favor, ( assuming Silvio stays and is cleared & Doke stays ) what does our post rotation look like next season?
I realize that's a lot of IFs.
Personally I hope Silvio gets cleared and can play ball for us. I kind of believe his caretaker, whoever, that they didn't take any money from that Adidas agent guy.
@nuleafjhawk Man! How can you be mad at Paul?? One of the best all time Jayhawks. Period. He went to the League and was a multi time All Star. He never forgot KU and his roots there. I could go on and on here. Paul will always be a Jayhawk. That 97 team he was on was so dominant a case could be made that it was the best team KU fielded ever in its history. They ran into some terrible luck against AZ, shoulda gotten an NC that year. That's the way the ball bounces sometimes tho. Kind of like how Duke's shot rimmed out at the last second and we go to the Final Four this year in an unprecedented run.
What happened sports fans?
@dylans Threehan!!
@jayballer73 Ummm a lot of those are Nike schools...WTF? Im confused

Well at least we know that Adidas was trying to do it's part for us against Nike lol. The "embargo" was real for a period of time.
I'm sure other schools are laughing at us right now. But I can't wait to see what comes out of the EYBL raid. Adidas didn't just start paying players $90k while Nike wasn't lol.
Cal and K just landed 9 of the top 25 player for 2018 lol. BUT NOTHING TO SEE HERE FOLKS.
I know, right!? @ NIke, Nothin to see here!! Gimme a break!! GTFO!

Yeah... the post game is becoming rare in all of basketball. Hard to beat the odds with an inside game when you spot the perimeter an extra point on every score.
Our loss in the tournament was more than just flipping to more treys. We were guarded much tighter on the perimeter versus our attempts at defending Nova's perimeter. But even if we were better at defending the line, I'd still give Nova the advantage because they shot through our defense from the perimeter more than we did against them. That extra point did prove out to be a key factor, too.
One thing will be very different next year... we won't be limited to one post player on the floor at a time. The argument for the 4-guard offense is that it spreads defenses out so our post player can dominate the paint and score easier. The key factor in all of that is timing, spacing and passing. Even though we were fairly efficient at that, we weren't quite efficient enough with it against Nova, and their sticky defense.
Next year, Doke (if he remains) will have help in the post area. Yes, it will clog up more space in the paint... but if it forces more double-teams, then someone is open, now another post player nearby and nearby the basket. It's just a different brand of basketball, one that Self knows well with his inside-out history.
I am one of those guys that like a 4-guard offense, but I'm game to just let Bill do what he knows best, the inside-out and focusing on inside scoring.
What we missed in the 4-guard offense was rebounding. That was the silent killer for us all year. Having at least one more post player on the floor at the same time should help us over that issue. Another weakness was defense. We could have used more size on the floor to help that out. We often sagged our defense with plenty of not-so-good weakside help. That ended up being one of the biggest factor (if not the biggest) in our loss to Nova. We kept doubling players with the ball once they came inside the trey line with the ball. That always left someone open, and we paid dearly from their trey effectiveness.
I'm anxious to see our new post next year! I know Bill knows how to use a bigger lineup!
Yes, what he said. :100: :100: :100:
But I also think we will see the 4 guard offense at times, albeit with a bigger line up.
@BShark good post.
Pretty cool that JoJo is on that list. Of course I am biased but I think he is the best on that list of 9.
IMO, Doke gets an invite to the combine but he comes back. He is not complete. He needs to work on his free throws, his rebounding and his shot outside of 5 feet. For crying out loud he could be averaging 10-12 boards per game!! Granted, we shot treys at record pace so most of those misses went long and our guards gottem but still!! Oh and did I mention he needed to work on his free throws??? SMH. Dont get me wrong. I love Doke. He is a beast. But he aint NBA ready yet. He comes back next season, he could go in the lotto next June, for real.
Also, I absolutely think Coach Self uses a four guard line up again. But not primarily! He has waaaaay too many bigs at his disposal.

Its like those rumored reports of a broadening investigation kind of went into the chronosimplastic infindibulum.
Mr Bate. I have a pretty well developed vocabulary. But, you are going to have to define "Chronosimplastic infindibulum" :laughing:
@jayballer73 Its literally every year that question is asked! LOL!
