SO, I had to take a couple days to process the loss. But Im back on again and wanted to post some quick thoughts.
I loved this team this year, faults and all. Those guys were great. I think they overachieved in a big way!!
It sucked seeing that last game be a loss and have to watch Svi and DG walk off the court one last time as Jayhawks. I'll miss both of those guys. Clay Young too but not as nearly impactful to my emotions.
I really hope Devonte picks up at least one post season award. He deserves it. Without him, we dont get near as far this season. Not close. Im betting that Coach Self will give him Mr Jayhawk.
I cant wait until October and Late Night so we can all see the Final Four banner unfurled and hung in this teams honor. I hope they make a new montage video for it. They have to use Aerosmith's Dream On. Song gives me chills every time I hear it.
I am excited to see where SVI and Devonte end up as pros. I hope one or both of them get onto teams with former Jayhawks on them.
I am equally as excited to see how this summer pans out in terms of who comes back and whether or not we get one more top recruit, (Langford).
Either way, those guys are gonna be stacked next year!!!
I asked @Jesse-Newell a question on twitter and he featured it in his article about the next season that he posted the other day on the KC sports website for the Jayhawks. I asked him his way too early opinion on what he thought our next season starting 5 would be. Pretty cool to see that.
To double down on the excited for next season with how our team will be stacked. Most assuredly we will see Coach Self return to a two big three guard line up. I am betting that our defense will return to top 10 form after being less than stellar the past two seasons. I mean, per Kempom, this year we were 42 in D and last year I think we were in the 30s. So yah, to see those numbers go back into the top 10 would be great.
Now, our offense, that is another unknown, but I dont see any reason to think that we wont have guys that can stretch it and shoot from 3 like we did this year. Not as many, I know. But still, imagine if all our guards and one or two of our bigs next year show some range and upper 30's percentage? I can see it. And, Im betting Self doesn't completely do away with the four guard line up. Not entirely.
ECU? Where is that? Is that a lateral move from FGCU?

@jaybate-1.0 Solid info. Irrefutable proof that Coach Self is amongst the best of the best in Div 1 coaching. All time. I mean he just beat Coach K with the odds and the refs stacked way against him! That was beyond awesome!!
Now to the emotional side. Why this intense dislike for Jay Wright? I myself held a grudge against him for nearly a decade when he snubbed Sherron and Mario, or was it Russ Rob in the U 19 USA games. And, for the loss in 13 at the Atlantis games and for the loss in '16 elite 8. Im not really pisst at him for that stuff anymore. He's a good coach, seems to be anyways. He isn't nearly as questionable in character as Sean Miller or Coach K or Coach Cal.

Another thing, KU has had more close games, down to the wire games than Nova has this season by far. Its not even close. Our boys do not panic. They fight.

I suspect that Josh Jackson will be a better pro than Wiggins before too long. Josh IS the epitome of "dog" Kid gives his all and plays his butt off. Ive seen him post stat lines way more impressive than Wiggins this season.
Joel Embiid?? Its not even close. Joel IS an All Star, in his second season. He will continue to be an All Star, a game changer, a generational talent until his body wont let him any more.

Svi will be really good next level. Doke, needs one more year at KU. He's a beast. Same with Silvio. Same with Vick. That kid comes back for his junior year, he'll go lotto next year or close to it.

Boy O boy its gonna be a good game!! One thing we have that 'Nova doesn't have? Coach Self. He's a hall of famer for a reason. We also owe 'Nova for that game 2 years ago.
I really feel like our boys can pull out the W. But, at the same time, am trying to keep an open mind for this weekend. Nobody, ok, not many people had KU going this far, myself included. There has been so much icing on the cake this season for me that I am completely satisfied and feel that we have had a truly great season. We get to hang another banner, or at least add to our final four banner this October regardless of what happens from this point on. We get to see Devonte' quite possibly win another one or two post season awards following in Frank's foot steps last year! Back to back Cousy awards or Wooden Awards or what ever for KU?? Damm that's cool!! We are good. KU should go out and play with a free mind and an iron will. Leave it all on the court. And, what ever the end result is, come away knowing that we had a great season and every KU fan will give them a heroes welcome upon return to Lawrence.

You guys! You have to know that Self will throw some junk zone defenses out there for a few possessions. He does this every post season just to fuck with the other team. He will absolutely not use it as his go to defense. Never has.

Well, Jaylen Brunson loves to post up. I imagine he will try that quite a bit.
Although, when that happens, I would switch Svi onto him for height and length advantage.
Regarding drive for fouling, targeting DG and Malik. One of our quicker post players or another help side guard should try and pick up charge calls. Slide over, get set, draw charge. Mitch is killer at this!

OK sports fans, here we go to another final four and this might be our most miraculous so far. I suppose the '88 team might come close but they had Danny Manning. We don't have a future NBA stud on this team like that.
These guys almost literally turned on the toughness light right after they got beat down in their last game of the conference. Nearly all of us doubted they could make it this far, but they did!

Geeez, there is so much icing on this cake right now, the stay puft marshmallow man couldn't wade thru it.
So, we have to face 'Nova again in what could easily be considered the national championship game. Hell, our game against Duke could have easily been the same. Anyways, I keep reading about how both teams are so similar. How are they going to guard each other, whatre their defenses going to do, etc.
Personally, I think we need to target their 5 man and their PG for foul trouble as early as possible. They can shoot treys from all 5 spots. We can from 4 spots. We get the ball into Doke and make their 5 man get into foul trouble, that should even that out a little bit. I mean, cant shoot treys if your on the bench. Nobody on 'Novas team can hang with Doke in the paint. Not one.
We need to let it fly from deep too. All our guards should have the green light. Even Mitch should have the green light!! I expect he may see the court in this one. Better match ups.
Lastly, Im not sure I have such an intense dislike of 'Nova's coach anymore. I mean, I was holding a major grudge against him for snubbing our boys in favor of his own during his time coaching the U19 teams, I think that was it? Any ways, I dont care about that any more. I mean, I could still hate on the guy if he was shady like Calipari or blatantly favored in recruiting and in games like coach K, but he isnt. Least I dont think so. Hell, KU has a better in coming recruiting class than 'Nova does by far this year.
I dont know. Im on the fence about this.

I have no clue how that applies to me exactly but it was fun.
Garrett admittedly is one of my favorite players this season. He really needs to work on this FT and trey shooting over the summer though. Kid's got game RN. Add a 70% FT and 40% trey gun and he'll be a stud for us next season.

Im going to say one thing about that. D'tae really did not have a good game against Seton. It is conceivable that our trough for trey % was against Penn thus far.
