@dylans I guess that would depend on their being complete scrubs. Hope I'm wrong, it wouldn't be the first time. Do I want us to sign Nix? Hell yeah, I do.
@jayballer73 Which is what I am getting at, many highly ranked players want to be all but guaranteed a starting spot. Maybe Nix and Love don't fit into that category, hope they don't, but if they do they might look at a point guard position that is already 3-deep if counting Garrett as a bit too deep.
Hell, I hope we do sign Nix or Love, and definitely want to sign Thompson who would get immediate PT at the 2, but the 1 position is more problematic due to the depth. Should we offer them? No doubt about it. But this isn't the playground, "I'll put my game up against all comers! I'm the Man, it is me vs. You!" More problematic than that. They believe their college choice to be an audition for the NBA, ofcourse they're gonna take a look at who else and how many others are already there. We're crowded at the point, that is just a fact.
@jayballer73 I didn't say that he was more talented than Nix.
@Kcmatt7 I do.... Not that I necessarily want them to be - would take Nix in a heartbeat! - but we would already have McBride, Harris and Garrett. That is a pretty deep and talented group.
@Crimsonorblue22 And the lawyers are, ofcourse, right. For violating an NCAA rule you get sent to prison?
Ia×'$*:&.whom!!!
Wow,,,,, that was quick, and from out of nowhere.
@KUSTEVE Hell,,, I'm still developing - hopefully until the day - a long, long time from now - that I die.
@KUSTEVE A perimeter man to man while playing a switching zone in the paint - interesting, and I like the idea.
@HighEliteMajor Great post!
I have been lamenting our defense for about 4 or 5 years now, something definitely needs to be done. What used to be a strength (we were always ranked as a top 10 defense nationally) has become a weakness. Maybe some of it is due to our just not having enough of and or the right horses? But I don't think that even while saying it.
We have grown FAR too passive, somehow becoming a reactionary team that likes to play an Oh No, There's A Three Point Shooter! defense, belatedly trying to jump over and get a half-assed (from about five feet away!) hand up just before the shot goes up. That is one of the things that I remember about Roy's KU coached teams that I absolutely despised, our constantly getting torched from the 3. I hope that this year is different, i.e. we applying constant pressure on the perimeter.
The team defense (not every player, but as a whole) last year totally sucked. I haven't been too impressed with our defense - particularly on the perimeter - for quite a few years now. Winning the conference last year, even with a healthy Dok? Imo, no,,,, but that's just an opinion. One thing that is fact, though, is that this year's team is not last's! And, man, am I glad for that.
@Kcmatt7 You're quite welcome.
@approxinfinity Oh,,,,we did much more than talk, and that is good because she didn't have much say.
@Kcmatt7 Please explain to me why I have to explain everything to you? Our system is not broken. We are becoming a nation of whiners. "I want free education and healthcare!" Fine, and they can go ask someone else to pay for it because I am not going to.
Upward mobility, ofcourse, is fine. I've been to Australia a few times, met a beautiful (....indeed) bartender in Perth, she was thirty years old and held a masters in anthropology - they have free university there. She didn't offer much in the way of conversation.
@Kcmatt7 I could go on and on about it, but no matter so I won't.
@approxinfinity Not at all, they can pay out the ass for an education that they won't need and won't use if they want to.
@Kcmatt7 I think it is priced about right. If too cheap we would have the most degreed waiters, waitresses and bartenders in the world, but it would do next to nothing for the economy or nation - could, in fact, even hurt both. But, yes, it is expensive....
@Kcmatt7 College should be earned, not given away. That way you more appreciate what you had to go through to get it.
@Texas-Hawk-10 he will be more productive than either of those guys - both of whom I liked - due to his size, athleticism and all around skill, both offense and defense.
@jayballer73 I've been on Braun's bandwagon from the get-go, and it wasn't just me being lucky - I saw a player who is very smart and athletic. And he is still growing, don't forget. Braun is going to be an immediate contributor, and by his junior year will star.
@drgnslayr I'm with you on the OADs, have never been a big fan, just don't see a huge upside. Anyway, that stupid rule will soon be gone the way of the dodo, and I'm glad.
Remember what I said about Braun, guys. The guy is going to play - and I mean really play! - for us, starting this season. He will get, atleast, 10-12 mpg and will contribute.
I will even take it a step further, when he finally leaves KU we will miss him but can still watch him play if we decide to follow his NBA team. He is 6'7 and still growing, a great shooter, passer, ball handler and distributor, can defend and play above the rim - that is pro potential.
@drgnslayr I've been thinking the same thing. Our overall D for the past 4 or 5 years has really sucked, and I miss it. Imo alot of it is due to Bill just not having the horses and having to get away from the high-low (and losing his assistants), or am I wrong? I know one thing, I am really looking forward to this season - gonna have some bigs again.
@BeddieKU23 Would love for us to be able to sign Garcia.

Utah got the book thrown at them. Look at these overwhelming penalties:
$5,000 fine (self-imposed)
8% reduction in official visits in 2018-19 (self-imposed)
A show-cause penalty lasting one year for the associate head coach, including a one-week suspension from Nov. 13-Nov. 19, 2019.
A prohibition of all four countable men's basketball coaches from off-campus recruiting for a five-day period from July 11-15, 2018 (self-imposed)
A reduction of men's basketball in-person recruiting days from 130 to 113 for the 2018-19 academic year (self-imposed)
I'm surprised they didn't take dessert away for a week...
That, my friend, is funny!!
Man, how I would love for us to sign a true inside/out small forward, 6-7ish 225 lbs, a Paul Pierce kinda guy - though obviouly not saying if we signed one that he would ever be that good.
@justanotherfan He will shoot, and he can and will make some - that is a stretch 4. Will he be given the green light to shoot at will this season? No. But he can make them, which makes him an outside threat. By the end of next season, watch, there will be some talk of him entering the NBA draft, and he will enter after his junior season after shooting, oh, about 39% from three.
@Kcmatt7 As I have been saying for a while. Oh, he's going to play no doubt! How much tbd, but it'll be difficult to not give him atleast 10 mpg.
@jayballer73 Lol.... And don't forget Apollo Jackson!
My question is, are they ever going to wrap the damn thing up? It is all about shoe money and the NCAA - they need to be very careful here, trust me - knows that, and they also can't help but know that all of the shoe companies are and have been doing it, Nike in particular. You guys know where I stand on this issue, we shall see.
@BShark I think he'll do well there.
@approxinfinity Never saw Geto Boys. Like me some Tupac, though. He Got Game was good, all those coaches including Roy doing cameos - Jesus Shuttlesworth.
@KUSTEVE Either that or he has one very good looking mom.
The guy was great.... I have fond memories of being overseas eagerly awaiting VHS tapes being sent my way once basketball season started - everytime I got one it felt like Christmas.
@KUSTEVE It will be damn hard in my opinion to keep Braun from getting some playing time - the guy can ball. The more that I hear about how all of the other players are singing his praises and have even heard coach giving him some love I say he is going to get minutes and is going to produce. And let's not forget, the kid might still be growing. How big is he going to be by his junior, senior year?
KUSTEVE said:
Big Dave...20+. Moss....25. Braun is the mystery meat in all this. Ball handling skills, passing skills, excellent shooting skills. No doubt defensively he has a long way to go. Maybe he redshirts....maybe he only gets two minutes at the end of games off the bench. Maybe we have a night where Moss is 0 for 8 , and he comes in, and hits an important 3. The guys this summer keep raving how tough he is, so maybe he's not going to be overwhelmed as much as we're thinking.
Don't get me started on Braun again, will have to break out the Gordon Hayward comparisons.
KUSTEVE said:
They have 4 starters averaging double figures, with Marcus having the 2nd most minutes on the team, and the 2nd highest scoring average. That will send a few of you into orbit...lol.
Naw,,,,, not quite an orbit, Lol... I don't see Garrett being our second leading scorer, a chance at number two in minutes (can play three and if in a bigtime pinch, his freshman year(?), even four positions - but not our second leading scorer. If he is number two in scoring me thinks our team will not be living up to our potential - he isn't a scorer, he's a passer and defender.
I don't think coach is recruiting him much at all, unless he chooses to go to college (2020) and just begs for KU to sign him - which he won't. We're going to lose some players after this season, but will still have plenty coming back and our 2020 recruiting class I think has a chance to be pretty bigtime.
There seems to be some discord when talking about our players due to their versatility and being interchangeable. Dotson, Dok and Moss will be gone, no doubt, will Silvio be also? I don't know, to be honest, he may well come back - we shall see.
I see Enaruna as an inside out stretch 4 who, if need be, could also play small forward (though he won't play much 3 this year), and will be a three year player. Wilson is one who I really can't get a read on - is he a 3 or 4? Can he shoot from the outside?
I like Braun, see him soon - though not this year - giving us bigtime minutes at two and possibly even three positions. He is an outside/inside player who always hustles and doesn't take plays off - 4 year guy. The Harris/McBride pre-season battle will be interesting. I think that Harris is a possible three year player, though with McBride's stroke I don't see Coach redshirting him. I really like the potential of this team.
What are your opinions on this year's roster - how the players will do? Where will they play? How long will they stay?
@FarmerJayhawk Yeah, Dok is every bit 30 years old 😃....

@bcjayhawk We travel to Stanford December 29th and then nearly a month off. Next game is Tennessee January 25
that's insane - -how the hell did that happen
Like @Woodrow said, it's just the non-conference slate. The league schedule hasn't been released yet. Our first league game is usually right around the first of the year.
Hopefully, unlike last season, the conference schedule - though this year it will not matter - won't be so stacked against us that it seems the league wants us (the basketball cashcow of the conference) to lose.

@Kcmatt7 Wilson and Enaruna play different positions. Wilson is a stretch 4 and Enaruna is a 3. Wilson or McBride/Harris (whichever gets the back up PG job) will be the freshman with the most minutes this year.
You might be right. But Enaruna is 6’9 and looks like a modern athletic 4 to me.
We have a winner! Enaruna is a legit 6’9 according to folks in the building. 6’9.25 or .5 depending on the time of day. And there’s a chance he’s not done. Has grown a couple inches in the last 2 years. Also close to 7’1 wingspan. Dude is large. And also just turned 18 so he’s at least a year younger than most freshmen, and in a lot of cases 2 years younger. 6’9+ 215 (I think he ends up around there) is easily big enough to guard the 4.
Enaruna will be a stretch 4.

@JAYHAWKFAN214 What do you mean? This is pretty silly, imo, if it turns out this way. Tennessee will be only a shell of the team they were last year and we will arguably be much better. Makes zero sense.
Ditto Kentucky playing Tech, who imo is going to fall off precipitously - Beard being a good coach aside.

Dave was super spastic early on. He looked like he was riding a bull with no hands half the time. After he settled down late in the season, he looked pretty good. I’m hopeful he can continue that trajectory of rapid improvement. Big 12 first team 2020.
Good question..... Who will the Jayhawks offer as Big12 1st, 2nd or 3rd team?

@alwaysajayhawk I would love for us to sign Berry.
Offering him a scholarship and actively recruiting him would be a good step towards that but it doesn't seem like he is a priority from what I can tell. Could bite us if he ends up at Ok ST.
You're right. I've been a fan of Berry for awhile now. Think it would be a mistake to not, at least, have someone camp out at his doorstep. I'm starting to think him to be a wing, if so a big take. If he has issues - which I didn't hear until just now - ,,,, pause...

Devon's chip came out in the interview. He doesn't like losing. That's a thousand lb chip. He looked that camera square in the eyes said we have unfinished business. Remember when Major Payne got punched by the biker? Remember when he spit the blood out of his mouth, stood up and said " the party is just getting started", and beat him like a red headed step-child? Dotson seems just as determined. This is a guy when you're going into battle, you want a Dotson on your team. He's an EF Hutton- when he talks, people listen. If he says unfinished business, I believe it. The fact that his great year could get him into the NBA is also huge motivation.
The Doke chip is our reward for not having this human specimen in our lineup last year. Last year was the breakout year, and he was well on his way when injury once again knocked him out. This is his year. There's a wonderful God out there that is going to give this young man an injury free year. The force of nature, the man mountain will have his huge year. This is motivation x 3 ... this is the sweet spot for us fans, as we have a player in a spot where he wants to be effective every second he's on the court. This is it. This last rodeo. Do you want the NBA, Doke? Then you better have your best year yet.
The Silvio chip might be the biggest chip of all. Can you imagine how motivated he is to excel? We're going to get his best every second this year. Because there probably won't be a day goes by he doesn't realize how special it is to be on that court in a game. That attitude is just priceless on a team.
The Moss chip is the chip that doesn't look like it fits at first glance. Moss wasn't happy with the minutes distribution, or the fact that the coach's son, a 20% 3 point shooter replaced Moss at the end of games. Moss was a starter, but wasn't allowed to be a finisher. Maybe his inconsistency was too much to bare ... maybe Daddy trusted his son more than Moss ... who knows? But even if there were legitimate reasons to pull Moss, There is no way Moss will ever think it was anything other than nepotism. And that burns a fire inside a man. So he is going to want to show the world what a huge mistake that Iowa made by minimizing him at times. The fact it's a Daddy/Son situation adds fuel to the fire. We probably wouldn't have even looked at Moss except for Devon's connection to him in the first place. Moss played ball for years with Devon's older brother, and Devon as well, so Moss is going to feel right at home. Is it going to help him to be close to Devon...our point guard? Probably not going to hurt. I just have a feeling that this guy is going to be a guy we'll remember. He shook the corncobs off Iowa, and landed on his feet at the right place at the right time. He will thrive in our offense. This isn't beating somebody off the dribble- this is wide open shots created by our offense with space he's never seen before in college. I see stars lining up. I see this guy becoming a beast.
I expect Moss to start - 5 Dok, 4 Silvio, 3 Agbaji, 2 Moss, 1 Devon.
Bench - 5 Dave, 4 Mitch, Enaruna (or Dave?), 3 Garrett/Wilson/Enaruna/Braun, 2 McBride or Braun or Harris, 1 McBride, Harris or Garrett.
A good depth problem to have, people! Good times.....

@FarmerJayhawk I don't think Dave will play alot of 4, either. He looked, at times, somewhat clumsy out there (maybe due to his motor) this past season. We'll see.
Been hearing quite a bit about Dave this off season. - -I am pretty sure - -getting old mind you but seems like not that long ago - there was an interview with Coach - -ask who the most improved player had been in the off season - - His response?
David McCormack hands down he said - -pretty sure I remember that - -anyone else remember seeing that? - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY
Yeah, I remember that @jayballer73 and believe him. If that guy, Big Dave, will be able to this season play both the 5 and 4 THEN LOOK OUT!

I think a lot of that had to do with how rapidly he’s transformed his body. Check out an Oak Hill game from his senior year vs. late in the year last year. Give Dave a ton of credit because like Tex said, he’s gone from 300+ to 260 and pretty cut.
You may be on to something there.
@FarmerJayhawk Hey, I'm not knocking Dave. You may be right. He is going to be vital this year.
