Recruiting Strategies.... • Jun 19, 2019 10:47 AM

@BShark I take it that you like yourself some Garrett. It will be interesting to see how he responds this year when his minutes are drastically cut.

Tough Times For KUSTEVE's and Crim's Shockers • Jun 19, 2019 10:39 AM

@bcjayhawk Sorry, I would not be recruiting anyone from Boy's Town High School. "Hey, come join us and wreck all of our team chemistry!"

SUPER IMPORTANT BREAKING NEWS • Jun 19, 2019 10:29 AM

@BShark Enaruna great? No way! Just joking. I'm telling you, he'll be hard to keep off the court. How did Braun do?

2020 Recruiting • Jun 19, 2019 08:36 AM

@FarmerJayhawk would love for us to sign Thompson at Late Night. A Thompson and Nix backcourt, I'd take that.

Mitch • Jun 19, 2019 08:24 AM

@KirkIsMyHinrich Thank you.... Everyone is like writing Enaruna off as if he is a developmental guy who isn't going to play this year. The dude can play, and he will. Weren't he and Wilson rated more or less the same by some gurus?

Silvio is going to get about 20mpg, Enaruna 10 plus, Wilson 22, Agbaji 25 Braun about 7, Dotson about 30, McBride seven or eight, abd Moss around 25. And Garrett - if he doesn't redshirt - what, about 5 or 6? And where should Garrett's minutes come? At the point, over McBride? Why? He is a decent defender who cannot push the ball due to being relatively slow, and he cannot score. Maybe the 2? Are you serious? How 'bout the three? Why? At the expense of Agbaji, Wilson and the development of Braun? I've changed my mind on redshirting him, though.... Want him to graduate in two years and move on, so that we can quickly replace him with someone who can shoot. He'll be defensively serviceable this year for about 5 to 8 minutes a game, period - splitting time at three positions.

Mitch • Jun 19, 2019 08:06 AM

@BShark I didn't say play Braun over Garrett. I say play a combination of Dotson, McBride, Moss, Agbaji, Braun and Wilson over Garrett. Mark it, Garrett will average less than ten minutes per game. Why? Why NOT?

Mitch • Jun 19, 2019 07:55 AM

@BShark I didn't say Moss would, said I'd pass on the kid from Puerto Rico (who will - if we sign him - be a Moore).

Mitch • Jun 19, 2019 07:53 AM

@Texas-Hawk-10 again, I say redshirt Mitch and Garrett.

Mitch • Jun 19, 2019 07:52 AM

@Texas-Hawk-10 did I say 10+ minutes a game for each of them? Damn, that's alot of minutes. What I am saying is that Silvio, Enaruna and Wilson are going to cut into Mitch's PT bigtime making it almost nothing, and Dotson, McBride, Moss and Braun are going to eat away at Garrett's. So question, if they don't redshirt how many minutes per game are Lightfoot and Garrett going to get?

2020 Recruiting • Jun 18, 2019 03:54 AM

@KUSTEVE I respect your opinion and that of the coaches, but I don't. Moore could play too, right?

Mitch • Jun 18, 2019 03:51 AM

Let me say it, redshirt Mitch and Garrett. Oh no, Garrett might transfer! Go ahead.... Really, what does he offer? Not squat. Play McBride and Braun.

Mitch • Jun 18, 2019 03:49 AM

@KirkIsMyHinrich I think we should redshirt Garrett and Mitch.

Mitch • Jun 18, 2019 03:48 AM

@FarmerJayhawk Braun will get about five minutes a game.

Mitch • Jun 18, 2019 03:47 AM

@FarmerJayhawk Like I said, redshirt Mitch.

Recruiting Strategies.... • Jun 18, 2019 03:46 AM

@FarmerJayhawk I'm with you on that. Let them make money if they can, but programs shouldn't have to be held hostage by the NBA draft.

2020 Recruiting • Jun 18, 2019 03:43 AM

@KUSTEVE I'll pass, let him go play at Marshall or wherever. He reminds me of a PG that can't play.

Mitch • Jun 16, 2019 10:15 PM

@Texas-Hawk-10 I'll take eight or 9 which is close to a two platoon roster over six or seven (as has been the case lately, due to a lack of depth) over six or seven anyday. Eight or nine? Let's make it 10 or 11. And I disagree about the pressure - Dotson, Garrett, McBride.... Force them inside where they have nowhere to go.

Mitch • Jun 16, 2019 09:12 PM

@Texas-Hawk-10 Yeah, I do. Bill is going to have a big rotation this year. Uptempo, constant pressure on the ball (alot of fresh bodies).

Mitch • Jun 16, 2019 04:18 PM

Mitch brings alot of grit and determination no doubt, but I say redshirt him. He'd be one of the four most important players coming off the bench next year in 20-21, whereas this season he will be hardpressed to find playing time. I think that Coach plans on playing all four freshman and Enaruna will be playing alot as a stretch four. Hell, Coach has said he plans to even play Wilson some at the 4.

It would be a win-win, Coach doesn't have to feel bad for having Mitch ride the pine and Mitch will know that he is going to be a big cog next season.

Are we back now? • Jun 15, 2019 07:20 PM

Man, I'm telling you, I think we've got a great chance at a NC. All of the misses aside, I wouldn't trade this recruiting class for a Hurt or a JRE or even both. And I haven't smoked anything today, Lol..

Are we back now? • Jun 15, 2019 03:40 PM

Crazy depth this year, and thanks to this year's recruiting class for the foreseeable future. I mean, here we are talking about redshirting - valid points all - either Mitch or Braun and both of those guys can play! It is a good problem to have, folks. I am very excited about this team. I wonder if coach is thinking about a two platoon system?

KUSTEVE said:

@jayballer73 We'd create mismatches all over the court. I was very impressed with Braun in that scrimmage. That kid can flat shoot, and he is not in awe of anyone. He's a tough kid.

He's going to be doing alot of that, impressing people. It looks like Enaruna is starting to do that, too.

BShark said:

Any of the guys I listed would likely start over McBride.

And we will see. Just as often as we have success stories we see guys get recruited over and not amount to much and/or leave.

I like McBride, I really do, but Self is always trying to recruit the best players possible.

As he should, and no problem as Iong as eight to nine spots are reserved for the top 50 - 70s like Enaruna andl Wilson, and top 80 - 120s like Braun and McBride. They are going to be so important these next three or four years. Build around their versatility, adding pieces for up four years.

We will need a center and more than likely 4, also a 1 and a two. I think we nem/ tiiOS

I'm on-board, gonna be interesting to see who we add to them. Braun would work as a 2 - work bigtime.

2020 Recruiting • Jun 15, 2019 02:08 AM

@jayballer73 Another reason why I say we won't get anything amounting to diddly crap from the communists in KC (I think that is where they're headquarted).

Are we back now? • Jun 15, 2019 02:02 AM

@BShark was just checking, man. Braun seems to be the forgotten step-child for alot of people, I differ. The guy is 6'8, has a handle and can dish, can light it up from the outside and go inside when needed, and is pretty damn athletic. He seems to have a mean streak too.

Are we back now? • Jun 15, 2019 01:46 AM

BShark said:

Expect Wilson and Enaruna to make pretty big SO jumps as well. Both can be special players on both ends.

Question @BShark you don't seem all that interested in Braun. What is it that you don't like about him? I, personally, see a bigtime prospect. Granted, will he star this year? Probably not. But by his junior year I see a very versatile, positionless player who'll be able to score from anywhere (underrated as an athlete).

Wilson to Kansas • Jun 15, 2019 01:36 AM

BShark said:

@truehawk93 Enaruna just not a 5 year guy, so there isn't a point in RSing him. Always the chance that he transfers too, and not RSing makes that an easier option. There is a reason why we don't see too many guys RS under Self, especially recently. I think Braun is the perfect candidate. A KS kid that bleeds crimson and blue and was also recruited over twice in the same class after signing.

I don't think Enaruna is all that ready either. I have him around 6 minutes a game this year. I don't think he is two and done either. He's just not a 5 year guy. 5 year guys are rare, and typically lower level guys without much in the way of pro basketball aspirations. Redshirting simply doesn't make sense unless you are staying all five years. There is no point in redshirting one year and playing two. Just never redshirt and keep all three years available, even if playing just a few minutes a game it's better to have to option and get him experience when you can.

We aren't losing Dave. He will likely be the starting 5 as a JR.

Enaruna is going to cut into Mitch's PT bigtime. In fact, I'll say it, redshirt Mitch.

Wilson to Kansas • Jun 15, 2019 01:34 AM

@Kcmatt7 Howard is our best recruiter.

KU vs. dook • Jun 15, 2019 01:31 AM

Hell, I hope we beat em by fifty.

Recruiting Strategies.... • Jun 15, 2019 01:30 AM

@drgnslayr That's why I'm so stoked about this class, we can build around it (foundational class) and add pieces. This is the most important class that we've added in, hell, what?, seven or eight years?

@BShark I know he tried. I'm saying that he probably missed because Mason and Graham were already there. Just as he'll probably whiff on presumed bigtime PG recruits the next three or for years due to McBride and whoever the other top 75-120 player that he signs to back him/play with him is, which is fine by me. When it comes to Kansas PGs I'll take four years of Mason, Graham or McBride over a OAD any day of the week.

I think we stand a good chance at signing Mane to back up and play with McBride. Thompson is a must-get, and Todd would definitely be a keeper.

@HighEliteMajor I know I'm repeating myself here but... My favorite thing about the incoming recruiting class is zero handlers. Of course our top two post players are handler kids, but I wouldn't mind seeing going away from it in the future.

I also think it's pretty fortunate we still have Silvio and Doke, but it is important to note that while high ranked neither was expected to be OAD. I think originally both were expected to be 2 years with the potential of staying longer. Obviously things worked out. I'd rather have Dot and Doke than any 5* presumed OAD that we might have instead.

I think we are headed for 30+ wins this season.

Well said. Unlike last season, I have a feeling about this team. Didn't feel it last year.

How many all Americans do you guys think will we have next year? I think we will actually have 4. DD Ochia, SDS, and Doke while Moss will get big 12 honors. Holy cow I’m excited.

I might be overly hyped I know but come now

Four is a big number. Even if we have four players who are deserving we won't get that many. I say two, and one honorable mention.

Lol, wrong thread methinks..... Wow, for real, thought you said wrong-headed....Guess I need to read better. I did have a good post, though Lol and stand by it, don't think we'll get much of any punishment.

Final score, KU 84-76 Duke

@Crimsonorblue22 That was a good payoff. Maybe we can rustle up some boosters to get Roy, Cal and K to shuffle off too?

Wait a minute... how many points are coming back for Duke? 10? This is a team full of newbies... right? And we get them early?

I see a beat down coming.
wish I could agree with you on that , I think we can beat them all right - but beat down? - probably not - -more likely any where tops from 9-11 points tops

You know, just for the hell of it, I'm giving a final score - KU 84, Duke 76

@BShark And why weren't they signed? Maybe because Mason and Graham were there?

Okay,,,, here's the deal.... While my logic may be wrong-headed that is exactly the kind of logic that's needed when trying to guess what an obtuse and obese entity - the NCAA - might want to or will do (and trust me, I know how these animals think, though I am not obtuse or obese).

The NCAA cleared De Sousa to play, saying he was eligible after he had graduated early coming to KU. We then - after all of the cowshit hit the fan - sat him last year and the NCAA then without merit or proof benched him for not only the entire season but for this coming season as well.

The NCAA then reversed that ruling, saying that De Sousa is eligible to play this season. Question. If they had proof of improper benefits would they have ruled him eligible this season? The answer is no. Preston we never even played and didn't know about, right? šŸ˜‰

Trust me everyone, I know these animals. We will not even get a slap on the wrist (unless you are counting blah, blah, blah, some kind of sanction that doesn't even matter). Arizona, Louisville and LSU on the other hand, I wouldn't want to be them.

@BShark I wouldn't be so sure of that. Was Mason? Was Graham?

Wilson to Kansas • Jun 13, 2019 10:42 PM

@BShark Maybe @BShark but my wrong headed ways - knowing how power hungry obese entites think and function (trust me, I know) when they are up against a firing squad wall - are exactly the kind of logic needed when deciphering what, if anything, they might do.

I have no idea who we are focusing on, to be honest. Kyree? Maybe. But what position will he play? We already have McBride (who is bigtime), Wilson who will be around for atleast two maybe three years, Agbaji (who knows, maybe he'll be back too), and Enaruna and Braun who will both be back. I don't see us landing Kyree, who then?

Wilson to Kansas • Jun 13, 2019 10:27 PM

May I opine? Are we one of the six? Yes. Are we one of the two that are going to get the hammer? No.... They have ruled Silvio eligible - who we sat after there were doubts, which came after the NCAA(!) ruled him eligible the first time - and we never even played Preston. We are in the clear, folks, in the clear. We have a great, deep team loaded with stayers not goers (with a couple of deservedly so goers), I'll take that. Let's enjoy! Oh, and by the way, I guarantee that Bill like ourselves (including the RJ fiasco) has learned from all of this. What did Rodgers say? R-E-L-A-X, relax.......

2020 Recruiting • Jun 13, 2019 10:16 PM

@jayballer73 I'm a Huggy fan.

2020 Recruiting • Jun 13, 2019 08:32 PM

@BShark Indeed. Time for the NCAA to acknowledge - as I have - that these guys (damn near all of the highly rated ones) are getting paid. The genie will not and cannot go back in the bottle.... Hell, even the Olympics caved to that reality years ago.

Are there still student athletes? Yes (as this year's class affirms, and I am all onboard - keep recruiting them!), but there are alot of tweeners who find themselves just at the cusp of being almost NBA ready who demand to have something while getting ready for the next stage. Getting rid of the OAD Rule will not solve the problem, if one even exists.

Now that we've added Moss and Wilson we can finally fully focus on the 20-21 and 21-22 classes. Coach always pulls a rabbit or two out of a hat. Wonder who they are focusing on now, and I mean really focusing on?
