@drgnslayr we definitely need a solid bench year in and year out, and the only way to achieve that is to recruit solid players that intend to stick around. Those players can be added around and behind one or two five star recruits.
@BeddieKU23 Dixon will have a tough year regardless of what happens. Then after having the tough year he will have an even tougher one after losing so many players to transfer, and then, and then, and then.
@jayballer73 the Asses From Young Lasses campaign?
@approxinfinity I have never called for Bill to step down either. I do think that we need a new assistant or two - the lack of d for about 4 or 5 years now is troubling.
@approxinfinity I have been to Perth, great women but it is no paradise.
@jayballer73 He's going to sign with KU. He and his father have both all but said so. We broke out the Asses From Young Lasses campaign.
It wasn't too long ago that I wondered - you guys giving me the answer - about that, after Kelvin Sampson signed the contract extension at Houston. Whether or not the city of Houston had enough basketball talent to sustain the program?
@FarmerJayhawk I would take that starting lineup, too.
Everyone is talking about us getting both Hampton and Walker. Correct me if I am wrong, but aren't they both PGs? I don't think that we'll get both. Do think that we will land Hampton or Walker (whoever commits first and I think it will be Hampton) and Tucker, though.
@BShark We gonna land us some Hampton, Enaruna, Holyfield and Tucker. We are recruiting hard in 2020 too, so we're going to be just fine. The above four said mentioned recruits coupled with Braun and McBride will give us a top 5 class. How does a starting lineup of Dok, Holyfield, Enaruna, Hampton and Tucker sound? Then for good measure we'll throw in some Big Dave, Mitch (the NCAA is being totally unjust with the De Sousa handling), Agbaji, McBride and Braun. I smell a run, folks.
@FarmerJayhawk KU.
@jayballer73 You might be right. I have never said that I don't want want him to come back, only that I don't think that he will. Reason #1 - I'm not so sure that he can (I know, he can work on his 3 point shot, learn to D up, he's taller than Frank, etc.) improve his draft stock all that much by coming back - I won't go on and on about why. Reason #2 - I don't think that coach is pushing for him to come back. Perhaps Self might think that a PG rotation of Hampton and McBride (McBride already being a 3 point threat) is better than Dotson. Reason #3 - Maybe Dotson knows for sure something that we don't.
@BShark I think that there is alot of "let's offer this guy so that they'll have to offer too," stuff going on.
@jayballer73 I second that. Whoever commits first, take.
@BShark I don't think Dotson is going to come back.
@FarmerJayhawk You may rest, counselor.
@FarmerJayhawk Agree.
I just hope that it all shakes out. Sign someone, please....
@BShark What do you think? Personally, I think I'd prefer Holyfield over De Sousa.
@FarmerJayhawk Lol.... That's what I meant. Fixing grades or the equivalent.
@FarmerJayhawk Lol, I understand. I remember, both football and basketball was it not? Fixing grades or the equivalent? Which would have made for many ineligible players, yet no probation.
@CoreyBill All of the tea leaves just seem to be pointing in that direction, Hampton reclassifying and coming to KU. I don't, unlike many or most others, believe that Dotson can vastly improve his draft stock by coming back for a year or two, or even three. Look at the great careers that Frank and Devonte had - in Mason's case a National Player of the Year campaign his senior season - yet they were both only second round picks. I say if Dotson wants to go then let him go, don't need him coming back and jacking up threes thinking that it would improve his draft stock when in reality it probably would not make much of a difference.
@BeddieKU23 No way, Coach K wouldn't do such a thing Lol.
@jayballer73 Doubtful, my man. Even the NCAA - what was it that the Boz called them, National Communists Against Athletes? - couldn't be that stupid. They would have to bring down all of college basketball and football.
@CoreyBill Because we're going to have Hampton and McBride, and we need shooters not drivers.
@jayballer73 I respect your opinion, but I don't think that Dotson can much improve his stock, I really don't. Hell, look at what Frank did his senior year and he was still a second rounder, ditto for Devonte.
@BShark Okay, I'll take you up on that.
@approxinfinity No source, just a gut.
Nope, stay far away....
The genie has been let out of his bottle, folks, and the NCAA is going to real quick like lure him back in by doing nothing and recorking said bottle. Too many $$$ (including their own god-awful salaries) are at stake to do anything else.
@Texas-Hawk-10 Look, I'm a Jayhawk fan, okay? It is all going to turn out just fine, sooner rather than later. De Sousa was paid twice - once to renig on his Maryland commitment, and a second time to attend KU.
@BeddieKU23 Dotson will not be coming back. The starting line-up for next season will be Dok, De Sousa, Agbaji, Hampton and Tucker - McCormick, Holyfield, Enaruna, McBride and Braun coming off the bench.
@BeddieKU23 Mr. Hampton (yes, he is already pro - being paid) will be going to KU.
@dylans Everyone is trying their damndest to scurry far away from the stench that is rolling in, thus Condi Rice' recommendations. All will be just fine, the NCAA cannot - though the 2-year ban on De Sousa makes you think that they are - be that stupid.
@FarmerJayhawk And that started when?
@Texas-Hawk-10 I do not believe that he was unaware, but he will be reinstated. Trust me, the NCAA wants this thing to go away - the cat has been let out of the bag, and the only way for it to go away is to push it back inside.
That BS article aside (totally ignoring Nike and the state of the game), I am glad that Kansas signed the Adidas deal - the university had to do right by themselves. What are they supposed to do, sign with Nike for far less while watching as most of the dollars and recruits go to Duke, UK or UNC? It is funny, but once you see it you can't unsee it, you know? Kansas is not going to be punished, just watch. How could it? The NCAA cleared De Sousa to play last year after Self, wisely, benched him. The university was then labelled a victim in the public scam, there not being enough evidence to hold Self or Townsend accountable. But just to say that it did something, though, the NCAA barred De Sousa from playing for two years. However, how much you want to bet against my saying that next season's ban will be lifted? Why? No evidence that he knew, that's why. To top it all off, the bag man who said in court that Self was not aware of any improper payments has now agreed to pay Kansas something, if memory serves, in the way of 300-some thousand dollars which is not chump change, further strengthening the case that coach Self and KU were the victims. So, with all of those unsightly, untidy loose ends finally being snipped - including the careless bag man - Kansas was then able to in good faith clean up with a 196 million dollar Adidas deal, and good for them. Rock Chalk Jayhawk!
@drgnslayr Interesting take, dance lessons. That would probably work.
@joeloveshawks All jokes aside, I did that myself! Caught myself on several occasions saying, "damn, is Grimes finally waking up?," only to realize - after he had burnt the red shirt - that it was Agbaji. I called it early on, Grimes as a complete bust. He plays heavy, has no true basketball quickness and does not have a good handle. His midrange game is non-existant, and his three point shot needs alot of work. His defense? Hardly none, doesn't move his feet fast enough and looks heavy. His skill set was vastly overrated by the prognosticators. Does he think that the NBA is going to draft him and let him work on his game for several years from the comforts of his own driveway while getting paid to ride the pine? I don't get it, but am glad that he is leaving.
I guess what I am getting at is that these kids seem to decide spur of the moment that they want to graduate early and, wallah!, they already have enough credits to do so. See Jeff run. See Jeff run fast. It seems that I remember it all starting - can't remember it happening before then - with Duke, even before Bagley, but I can't remember the player right off the top of my head.
Prediction.... With the mega-deal being signed watch - hocus pocus! - as, once again, the recruits begin to magically appear.
Man.... If we land Hampton and Enaruna I hope that we might also have a shot at getting Zeus Jackson and Poseidon Williams.
@dylans See Jeff run. See Jeff run fast
@JAYHAWKFAN214 Lol! Yeah, I'm sure those jocks are really hitting the books.
@justanotherfan I agree with you on all points save for one. It is the defense or lack thereof (with this year being painfully obvious, especially in the NBA) and the pompous, entitled attitudes of the players that I believe is - and I am aware of the ratings - soon going to start biting them, that and the constant reconfiguring of teams. A league cannot long survive by giving away the kind of power that both leagues are now giving to players.
Jesus, even the high schools - and I am truly hoping that Hampton reclassifies and that we land him - are in on it. How many of you out there reading this had enough credits to graduate high school after your junior year? Anyone, anyone? Now (whether you did or didn't aside), what are the odds that these jocks have legitimately stockpiled so many credits? Thank you....
@BeddieKU23 Yes, he can - bigtime! An absolute inside/outside monster.
@approxinfinity Thought I had a couple that were deleted, but maybe they just didn't post. Man, for the life of me though, I can't change my profile pic. Don't know why.
The NBA and NFL are both on life support, the college game far superior. The Patriots have dominated the NFL for, what, close to 20 years? The NBA has been dominated by a combination of King - that term used loosely - James and Golden State for, what, close to twenty years? Neither league plays any defense, the prognosticators admitting as much, as well as all but saying that often times the fix is in. The players are spoiled, thinking themselves to be entitled while not playing hard. Trust me, current ratings be damned, both are all but done.
And this is not sour grapes, folks. Both the NBA and NFL are inferior to men's collegiate basketball and football, no comparison. The out of control free agency has all but killed both of those leagues, making them lack consistency - that and the rule changes, as well as a change in the personal make-up of their personnel. Neither even tries to play defense anymore, league prognosticators admitting as much, even going so far as to all but admit that the fix is often in. Hell, all of the spoiled jocks may soon find no place to go to but college, because there is no way that those two dying leagues can keep taking on youth (especially the NBA - see G-league) when attendance and viewership - trust me, current ratings be damned - is only going to go plummet. Just watch, wait and see. The New England Patriots have dominated the NFL for, what, close to 20 years? Why? I'll tell you why, it is an inferior product. The NBA? King - that term used very loosely - James and the Golden State Warriors combined have been dominating for, what, close to twenty years all told? Inferior products have nowhere to go but down, eventually being obsolete and done. Think about it, neither of the two play or even try to act like they are playing hard anymore. Belly up I say, and good riddance.
