@BShark Yeah, that's a problem.
Make the free throws.
Well Juan attempted a three. Can't complain about that. But it didn't look super duper.
Back to the game where we all can agree who are the good guys... Some takeaways:
Jalen Wilson: the only thing holding him back from being pretty awesome almost every night is his head / mindset.
Grady Dick: looks like a scorer. Good now. Should be very good by Feb. I expect him to start henceforth.
Kevin: Really solid and will save our bacon in several games this year. He will become our most reliable player by January.
Juan: Pretty much where he left off last year. Would have liked him to find at least one 3. Its something he should have worked on during the offseason.
KJ: Bouncy and athletic as ever. Should be much improved by conference. If not, someone else will need to take his place as a starter.
Bobby: I can see him becoming a force.
This team looks like it is at it's best when it's pushing the pace and is able to take advantage of its athleticism. This means it's fragile and vulnerable to teams that are disciplined and know how to slow the pace (and shoot the 3). McCullar is the only guy that looked like he could be depended on to produce in that kind of match up.
PS: Jeff Bochee: Looked great and had his team ready. Seeing him on the court (even with all that hair) brought back some fond memories.
Interesting. These guys are pretty high on the B12 and the new deal. Hope they are right.
Here's your ticket for going 65 in a 55 five years ago.
-- But everyone was going 65.
Yeah, but it was posted 55. You broke the rule.
-- But the speed limit there is now 65.
Yeah, it was a bad rule so we fixed it.
-- er... ???
This has been another tale of "American Justice".
Hope this gets the NCAA investigation and ruling into the rear-view mirror for good.
YouTube TV is a surrogate for the standard cable packages. There are competing services to YouTube TV but it is far and away the leader.
I cut my cable as soon as I learned about how YouTube TV worked. That covers 80% of KU games with the rest being on ESPN+. That is a separate subscription which you can get standalone or bundled with Disney+ and /or Hulu.
And that should give you access until CBS puts sports on paramount plus or some other crazy shit like Amazon prime buying rights to some college sports.
It’s hard to anticipate where it will be in a few years, but the bottom line is that it’s moving toward streaming services and away from traditional cable.
Doesn’t Liepold have some connections to Wisconsin (the area, not WU-Madison)? Maybe he has a connection there and knows enough to make this a well-calculated risk.
Wow. This whole story really faded into the backdrop and was lost in all the other storylines from last year. I guess there was enough motivators for the team without putting this out there.
RIP Gethro. Prayers for the family.
A look back..

@Jethro When it gets quiet it could mean nothing is going on. But it also could mean something significant is going on. Rarely are such discussions transparent.
I hope the job discussion is laid to rest, but time will tell.
I'll be optimistic and say tied for 1st in B12.
I think we'll make a run to the FF.
I think it is an intentional plunge.
3 QBs in 4 weeks. All shoulders. Just sayin'
All within the rules of the game... but that doesn't mean it isn't dirty.
By what criteria does T-Rob go in the rafters?
@Texas-Hawk-10 said in The 5 spot:
Here’s what having a 5 who can knock down 3’s does, it opens up the paint for guys like Wilson, McCullar, Rice, and Harris to drive and do damage in the middle of the floor because teams would have to guard Clemence on the perimeter.
Exactly. It's a big if, but there's a lot of speed with that crew, so if they can rev the engine and stretch the defense.. good things should ensue.
If you think about it, that's kind of what they did last year in the tourney. The first shot against Nova and UNC was Ochi hitting a 3. That couldn't be a coincidence. It would be interesting to go back and look at KUs first set and shot in each game to see how often they tried to establish the outside threat and tug at that D from the get-go.
And last years team was fast. Fast break points were a priority. They passed quickly and this occasionally resulted in some sloppy looking passes, especially early in the season. But when it got dialed in, it was a thing of beauty.
Thank you @Texas-Hawk-10 for correcting and filling in the blanks on the criteria.
It's hard to argue that Ochi's jersey shouldn't be in the rafters. Honestly, it's a done deal. He met the criteria.
However, it's also hard to argue that Dave doesn't deserve to be recognized. A case could be made for Remy too. The main issue is that it's a slippery slope when you loosen the criteria.
For instance, adding conference player of the year adds a number of players historically. And it doesn't get Dave there. So then you need another criteria for that and it will likely add other players too. Pretty soon, the prestige is sullied and the honor watered down.
Personally, I would keep the criteria as they are and develop a new honor for members of a championship team. That helps us not forget critical players like Piper, Pritchard and Newton and Shady and Rush.. and BigDave and Remy.
I think for the new brand of ball, Zach fits pretty well. The key is for him to hit from 3. As soon as that happens, the defense gets spread out and opportunities open up for everyone.
And on D, you switch, switch, switch.
Is it greedy to think 1st in B12 and Elite 8?
Immortality in Rafters:
- MOP of FF

I don't know of any other hard and fast rules.
I mean, yeah, it's true but gosh I hope that isn't the takeaway from the season.
The Daniels one was not an accident. Looked very similar to the way the KSU QB was pile-driven by a 300-pounder into the turf when he was already down. Which looked similar to the way the OU QB was injured. It's a pattern.
Is it illegal? Not explicitly. It's a loophole they are exploiting. Reminds me of the Houston Astros. Maybe be a Texas-sports thing?
Ok. This is a stretch for this category, but it's B12 fball, so bear with me.
I think TCU has knocked out enough QBs by pile driving shoulders into the ground that it's not a coincidence. These guys are trying to hurt QBs and they need to face some consequences.
I don't know what penalty is appropriate. I only know what they have done is complete BS and I hope something very untoward happens to them.
I look forward to the day that we put it on Baylor.
Amen
Better decision for bean would be to throw it deep and if it’s an interception at least it’s on the other side of the field. Makes no sense to throw a short pass after rolling out and scrambling.
The defense is much improved this year. Honestly I think it’s all about depth. Across the board.
I’m sure this has been covered but the announcers are idiots.
Making it very hard on us.
Ok. Leaning hard on the defense to get another stop here. Bean hitting his stride thanks to amazing work of the o-line
It is possible.
Until we can stop them on 4th down, this is going to be demoralizing.
Also, I hope we find a better way to take advantage of Beans elite speed. Maybe WR?
Very disappointing game. We clearly were a very good team with a very small margin for error. And by that what I mean is we don’t have the depth to absorb injuries. Take Daniels, Hishaw, Bryant, etc out, we are a significantly worse team.
Simple question: Has there ever been a more impressive coaching succession than Larry Brown --> Roy Williams --> Bill Self? In. Any. Sport. Ever.
I would love to see a Golden State style offense in college... Not sure it's possible because there are enough additional possessions in an NBA game that it makes up for some of the turn-overs and missed shots from 3. Those long shots are strategically valuable in the pro game because they serve to stretch the D and the TOs are also a strategic sacrifice when you are moving at break-neck speed to break the defense down.
But the college game doesn't allow for those kinds of mistakes (which are strategically useful in the pro game). It's a game that puts much more value on each possession.
But there was a team that came close to doing it years ago. See LMU, 1990.
:-(
Pulling for the Padres.
The ALCS is a match up of my most hated team as a child vs my most hated team as an adult.
@Texas-Hawk-10 said in JUST BEAT THE TCU LIZARDS:
We also saw why Daniels beat out Bean for the QB. Bean doesn’t have great touch his passes.
100%
Hoping that the practices this week will help him with those.
I’m impressed with the response to adversity.
Barring any more unforseen injuries, we will get another win and be bowl eligible. That would be good for this team and great for the program.
All I know is that it’s hard enough to turn a program around with any additional distractions about future jobs. He’s got an undefeated team that is in uncharted territory with a heisman candidate, a historic media event in ESPN game day, and a very tough opponent to prepare for. Add on the stadium announcement and the job nonsense… If he navigates this week successfully it will be incredible.
I hate to think of the $$ we had to spend on the contract buy-outs for Turner Gill, Charlie Weiss, Beaty and Miles...
In a just and fair world, we'd take a chunk of that unearned money from those guys and drop it on LL's lap.
TCU has better athletes across the board than ISU. This game is against the haves.
To win this one, we need TCU to put in an average performance and, collectively, the Hawks need to play near their ceiling, no injuries and deliver a touch of Houdini here and there.
Yeah my bad. I saw that after I posted it.
Hope this link works
I'll tell you what I want to see... I want Shaq to bring his TNT buddies Charles Barkley and Kenny Smith to AFH. Then I want to play their halftime predictions on the jumbotron while they watch. And then I want to put microphones in front of them and sit back and enjoy.
hey, KU had Remy Martin.. No reason we should shy away from J Daniels.
(a little NIL theme going here)
Iowa State is the litmus test for this program.
We got stomped last year. I'm sure the guys remember that. But now they have to go out and change the narrative. It's a huge opportunity. But it's also a huge challenge.
ISU has been legitimately good and getting better over the last several years. We've gotten better over the last year. This game will reveal KU's growth rate and scale of growth. If we beat ISU, we've done in one year what it took them 3+ years to do. That is a curve you have to love, because if you follow that trajectory over three years, we are in rarified air.
This protracted deliberation might be the punishment.
