OVER THE FRICKING BACK ALL DAY
LL big rebound and then Frank!
Signs of vulnerability = A game called this way,
Yes. we are vulnerable when it is 8 vs 5
All too predictable. This was set up with completely one-sided officiating.
They have been over the back over and over again on rebounds.. No calls for them. Every possible ticky-tack foul for us.
We should be destroying this team. But this is a case study in how officials can influence the game.
I know it's too easy to whine about officiating, but if we could compare how other games are called, the calls going against Mason would never be fouls on the offender. Call the fouls for aggressive plays that penalize the offense and give the other team credit for flops.
JJ is almost putting the team on his back.

I was amazed in reviewing the stats from last game that I think Devonte shot 50% for 10 points 7 Reb and 6 assists. It seems to me that our expectations for devonte might still be so high that some games he’s being the glue we need and we aren’t giving him any credit for it.
Devonte made 6 points from the field, IIRC. I love that he's willing to be a roll player... And his rebounds and assists (and clutch free throws) show that he's finding ways to impact the game other than through scoring.
However, anyone who is shooting 50% or higher from the field is welcome to take more shots.
@Crimsonorblue22 If Frank takes that steal down for one of his patented whirling-dervish layup-with-contact and-one's, it would have been on SportsCenter's top plays... Probably doesn't beat LeBron's 3 point shot with his foot out of bounds (thanks refs), but it would have been celebrated a bit more.

I’m bothered by a fear I have that people have replaced morals with legality and believe that disobeying laws makes someone bad, while doing only legal things makes someone good.
Well put. And to put the final bizarre twist on top, too many people are far too comfortable looking for loopholes in the law, bending the law, circumventing it when the opportunity presents, or flat out assuming it doesn't apply to them.
Hope i haven't offended any anarchists on here..
@mayjay If these are legit police investigations, then yes. However, not all police reports are equal. So if this is flimsy and the Star is not filtering (which is their job) then it's sloppy at best and negligent or self-serving at worst.
Hey KC Star, here's a news tip: Allen Fieldhouse is a safe house for immigrants.
Seriously, if these reports are false, the source and the Star are on the edge of libel/slander, because this kind of repeated accusation appears to be with intent to defame and the Star is propagating the misinformation... Unless such protections are now dead in an era of Fake News.
if this is the same girl, then she's a saboteur.
@Crimsonorblue22 same thought here... double identity?
This game was more important to us than to Baylor, so I'm glad we won.. The back half of the conference schedule is tougher than the front-half, so we have done what we needed to, but will still have to play inspired basketball to get #13.
@brooksmd I agree.. I've wondered about that too. You can cause a lot of disruption if you dive for the ball and tip it.. even if you don't get it... as long as you don't foul..
I'd love to see someone figure out how to thwart the roll-in...
Jay Williams is prescient or very astute about Adebayo..
This win means we can all refer to the 2016-17 season as the one when we beat both Duke and Kentucky in the same season. Will we meet UCLA or North Carolina at some point?

I also find it interesting that Kenpom still has UK at #3 and us at #7 after the win and us having better SOS
I was wondering the same thing. I hope someone here can help explain because Kenpom has been favorable to us in the past and this year doesn't look so good.
Let's take a chill pill.
This seems worse than it may be because of the incident a month ago that turned out to not be Bragg's fault. He was in the wrong place with the wrong person at the wrong time.. but he was exonerated.
Then there is the rape case that recently cast a cloud over the whole team because of the location and the involvement of the team as 'witnesses'. We don't know what that means, but that's presumably not Bragg's fault.
As I read today's news, it sounded like this incident was a violation of team rules.. He might have been late for the bus and caused a delay... Maybe he cut classes... we don't know.
That's a lot of crap to sift through, but after all is said and done, it's just one violation for Bragg. Most players get more than one strike, unless it's really egregious.
If Self has a plan for 4.5 out and .5 in, now would be the time to put it to work.
@BShark i'm on the fence.. Watching just a little.. Remembering Pekka...
@BShark ah.. I must have missed his first... He and Mason have pretty good streaks running.
he just got it as I hit send.
Oops..
but no 3 for Svi in this game
@BShark agree
really has all the markers of a very tight finish.
@BeddieKU23 pretty much agree. I guess it's a tribute to the athleticism of Texas, but it's been much more of a labor than I would expect.
Texas continues to prove that they can hit shots when they are unguarded
Curious how this team labors to put a team away.
I guess it's not worth complaining because they get on top in most cases and then wear them down... but it would be nice to see them play well with a big lead.
@stoptheflop Still could happen. This would be a great opportunity for JJ to make a statement.
@BShark If this was WV and we had this many TOs, it would be a bit more understandable... but we would also be trailing ...
The good news: This team is explosive.
The bad news: This team is collapsable.
A bunch of KU TOs in the last few min
Just when I thought our defense was doing well, we relax..
Like the intensity and defensive effort so far.
@Blown I agree too.
And frustratingly difficult to avoid if when kids want to play some music stations.
@jayballer54 Agree.. It sure looked like he tripped himself.
In any case, the refs continue to put a damper on JJ. That call was within the first 2 minutes of the game. Maybe the first minute. That changed the way he could play for the rest of the game (and he still had the amazing block from behind).
Questionable editing. Not sure what the agenda would be... But, as a complete work, it is definitely not a faithful representation of the game.
Ah... very nice work! :smirk:

That team just wasnt up to Final 4 standards, and if you’ve watched for years and years, you can tell yay or nay by the in-season trends.
I like your thoughts and advice. The team with Wiggins and Embiid was a rollercoaster. While it wasn't a surprise we lost to Stanford, I still wonder how far we would have gotten with a healthy Embiid. Once Embiid was out, the team was a shadow of it's former self and vulnerable. Stanford exposed that.
But I remember there were games that Embiid was the best player on the floor. He and Wigs were sensational at times and I think a deep run was possible with a healthy Embiid and Wiggins playing unshackled.
@Crimsonorblue22 where did you get that shot? Fascinating.

I have watched it 4 times tonight and countless times before. It never gets old.
@Crimsonorblue22 Just catching up on all the threads tonight..
The first foul on Josh was a phantom call (the tripping).
Unfortunately, that wasn't the last time they blew a call.
@BeddieKU23 thank you! ..... And while I'm on a roll, let me add: Vick is way underrated. He's more of an x-factor than people realize.. He didn't have a showcase game today, but his athleticism is way up there, he's a good shooter and doesn't make a lot of mistakes. He needs to be more consistent, but has the raw materials to be Langford-esque by his senior year.
Great thread.
JMO: I believe we have had three teams playing as close to their ceiling as is possible -- maybe above their ceiling. They've easily each played their best game of the season against us. We have withstood that and I think it's more about how good our opponents have played than about our deficiencies. We haven't played at the top of our game, and fortunately, haven't needed to.
Maybe I'm out of touch with what 'excellence' looks like these days, but I feel like the athleticism of this team (7 rotation) is top 5. Our guards and outside shooting is top 5. We have more playmakers on the floor at the same time than I can ever recall.
Defense is a question, but it is a Bill Self team and that portends well in the long run.
Ok, here's for my completely fan-boy comment. (i.e. I may regret this and have to eat my words):
Josh Jackson is the best freshman we've had since Wilt (who didn't play varsity.) Better-- more impactful -- than even Manning. He isn't scoring as much as Wiggins or Manning, but he impacts the game more through all aspects of the game. It reminds me a bit of young Jordan. I know.. I'm a homer, but the kid is solid gold -- a winner. The combination of him with Mason, and company is dreamy. And improving.
Can they be beat? Of course. The ceiling of the best teams like Villanova, West Virginia, UNC, Kentucky, Baylor, Creighton etc is not far from our ceiling.
But I think they can go toe-to-toe with any team even when that team is at the top of their game. We have to play close to our ceiling against teams playing at the top of their game..... But this team is capable of taking any team's best shot.

Can't wait to hear post game
Question: Bill, why does your team always under-perform against your Alma Mater?
What I would pay to hear that question! No one will ask that, at least not that bluntly. But we fans can certainly wonder....
