@JayHawkFanToo Absolutely.. that was the strategy.. It kept them in the game.
plus, JJ has played his best in the final 5 min and that's saying something
This game has helped us. We are learning sooo much. Really this is the best case scenario... We get a win, but we see things we've never seen and are pushed pushed pushed.
@approxinfinity totally agree
This was a hard fought game Hats off to OSU and Underwood's plan.
@approxinfinity We are practicing.. 30+ in a game
What attribute is most impressive about Frank?
He has a lot of great qualities:
His quickness and ability to get to the basket
His 3pt shooting (~5o%)
His ability to take contact through a shot
His court vision and passing ability
His leadership & demeanor: Steadying influence and fierce competitiveness
(wishing we had a polling feature on the site)
@JayHawkFanToo I agree. I think that's the proper etiquette.
That said, i have almost accidentally made changes to a post by clicking the wrong link, so it might not have been intentional.

@Bwag I don't disagree with Jackson being better, just think Xavier had the better supporting cast.
I think that was the team that lost to Northern Iowa. If that team doesn't have that ridiculous upset, they go to the FF. That was a strong team for sure.
Certainly since that team, this is the best group around a OAD.
The balance on this team is pretty good.
Jackson is the complete package. And he's got a more experienced supporting cast than any other OAD we've had. This is a match made in heaven.
Two good defensive plays.. I like steals,
Steals are to defense what 3 pointers are to offense -- they hurt the opponent emotionally..
Someone please tell me what TT's 3pt avg was prior to the game?
@BShark Of course.. That's standard.
Fricking flops. These officials are _
These officials can't keep up with the athleticism we have on the floor..
Our guards are just so fun to watch.
The officials are the only people who can hold JJ back. And they seem to relish in it.
Sick and tired of these charging calls on JJ. They are bogus.
@stoptheflop Agree.. I think he was trying to draw a T or at least a foul. The final little shove to Lucas was the thing that deserved the T and I think that's what earned it. Ref was right.
I like Fran almost always, but he was wrong about the goaltending -- the officials actually got that right. An he was wrong about the Livingston reaction-- that looked like T-worthy to me every time they showed it.
Fran is is full of crap. That was totally a T
Finally the right call!
The crowd was really dead for the KU/KSU game..
@RockChalkinTexas I thought about that. Still, if they do their job correctly you don't have to have a make up
Officials are so crappy.

B12 has quite a few experienced, above average coaches
This is true and the reason the B12 is competitive. Some of those above average coaches have particular strengths in game preparation and management... others are good at finding unheralded talent and making it better... But almost every school is in very competent hands.
On any given night, a great team can be beaten.
Of course, the long haul (conference title) favors the team with a coach who has multiple talents (preparation & tactics & recruiting, etc.) and players with exceptional raw talent..
I am flying to Vegas on Thursday to go to the game! Rock Chalk!
Game chat anyone?

If we were to project this years 08 6th man would that be Svi?
Almost certainly, if he remains on the bench. He might take Vick's place at some point.
Who is #1? Villanova? What are the other top 10?
A slew of spam has hit the boards tonight. I tried to delete a bunch that I saw but don't know how to stop the deluge.. Let me know if you can see that I've managed to remove a bunch of spammed topics.

I'll always remember Sheraton as more of the ankle-breaking type. But both were great at driving into contact, and maybe Frank has the edge in finishing through contact.
Agree-- The videos show that Frank took a hit and still delivered an amazing layup. Sherron didn't take contact on the comparable layup...
I can't recall if that is indicative of Sherron's career (that defenders avoided contact with Sherron) but if so, there could be a reason for this. A collision with Sherron might feel different than a collision with Frank.
After watching the videos, my observation is that they both seemed to be dictating the speed of the game and there was nothing happening on the floor that was faster than they were. The game seems to be slow around Mason this year. This is a good sign.
I've seen it before a few times-- where a guard seemed to be able to do whatever he needed to do when he needed to do it... and we've won a lot of games those years.

KU’s big men together gave KU exactly what it needed, if what it needed was insignificant scoring, some rebounding, turnovers, and no steals.
Outside good.
Inside bad.
One really good dunk. One attempted dunk that would have broken the internet. Several garden variety dunks. 22 points by a freshmen. Steals, rebounds, defense and energy.
JJ looked good. Really good. That's a good omen for the rest of the season.
Inside was impotent and we still won by 20 = good team.

Amen!
@approxinfinity I think it could be considered intrusive if it isn't positioned right.
I can't recall, but I don't think there is any T&C when someone signs up here. If so, then members haven't given permission to be contacted... and they haven't said no either.. It's kind of gray.
It would take some work, but maybe going forward there could be an option that a user could check to say "Message me occasionally with updates about this community..." or something like that.
At the same time, it might be nice to give assurance that we will not sell or give away our membership information (assuming you agree ).

How would you like to be the coach of Towson (or Appalachian State, for that matter)?
The more I think of it, the more i believe this is PHOF. If the commentators ever visit this site, I would expect to hear this line uttered by one of them.. It's a brilliant question.
Would love the community's thoughts on how to reach out at the key moments (especially the start) of the season to members.. I can imagine that -- after a summer and fall without basketball -- fans might fall out of the habit of checking the site... In some cases, when they drift away it's not because they want to, it's just been lost on them.
So, could we send reminders? What would that look like? Would that feel awkward or annoying?
Curious what folks think would be reasonable and effective.
Teams are going to start keying off Frank.
The rest of the team needs to be ready to have a heyday when that happens. Others are going to be open when opponents try to stop Frank.
This could be pretty fun year watching teams squirm as they try to stop one flood and another erupts.
@BShark Question:
Is a Missouri T-Shirt fan an oxymoron? Or just a moron?
@JayHawkFanToo True.
When was the last time that happened? (that's a rhetorical question...)
I hate the fact that the officiating is such that we cannot reflect on a game -- even relish in a win -- without discussing the refs.
But it's undeniable.
There is simply too much judgement and latitude bestowed within the refs today. Leagues (NCAA, NBA and NFL) allow this and maybe even foster it as it can be an equalizer that creates more exciting games. (Warriors vs Cavaliers anyone? Patriots, Panthers and Seahawks?) To the viewer -- the consumer of these products -- it appears that refs influence the game to the point of overt manipulation.
For the love of the game, they have to STOP IT.
How? I'm not sure.
I suspect that technology could play a role to remove human errors and subjectivity.
Instant replay has helped with baseball, and may play a niche role in Basketball and Football, but is not a the solution. Part of what makes these games fun is the fast pace. Increasing replay would ruin the flow and lengthen the games far too much.
More likely, some sort of system can cross-reference a database of plays and quickly compares the precedent for a call. Imagine if, after a call like the hustle play that Josh Jackson made trying to steal the ball, there was a way to look at 20 similar plays -- taking into account position of players, etc -- and could quickly determine that this play results in a "Jump Ball" call 80% of the time, "no call" 10% of the time, foul on the player in position A 7% of the time and foul on player in position B 3% of the time.
This kind of analysis, on a portfolio of plays during a game, could be used to 'grade' the refs and keep them in check -- essentially normalizing the way they call the game.
This kind of system would allow anyone to review the calls from a given ref and tell whether they were making irregular calls or standard calls. That would eliminate the speculation of fans and probably eliminate the refs that speculate.

@jayballer54 Frank is easily as good or better than Sherron, who is absolutely top 5 at KU.
Totally agree.
Frank, as a senior, is clearly on another level than other players - partly because there isn't as much experience on the floor. He isn't the tallest guard, or the biggest and not the most gifted. But heart and experience goes to Frank.
Frank can manufacture points like few others. He looked like this in South Korea and now we see it in NCAA. The game is slow for him now and he can simply will a basket.
If we were to lay out a list of 5 keys to KU winning an NC this year, "A Healthy Frank Mason" might be the top of that list.
Where's that article written from 2026 looking back where Self embraced the 3 point shot and the team went on to win more championships?
That's looking pretty implausible at this point.
Felt like they made as many 3s as we attempted. :grimacing:
I set my DVR to record an extra 30 min and still missed the overtime plus. Luckily, I have no desire to go back and watch the game.

@JayHawkFanToo Oh shoot, who am I thinking of that came to KU after Indiana? Man, I'm usually pretty good with these names.
I think you are thinking of Rick Calloway in 1988-90.
It's hard to know who is the greatest.. but he was unique at the time. These days, there are more guys that have physical attributes that are similar to his. That's at least one way to think about comparisons. Durant and Anthony Davis (and maybe Joel Embiid) are guys around 7' that have similar dexterity.
They are different, but the closest I can compare to Wilt in today's game. Can you think of someone else who is similar physically to Wilt?
The game is faster, there is more parity and it's officiated differently. Plus there is the 3-pt line which changes the strategies. So it's hard to compare.
I think Wilt in his prime would be a leader in the league in scoring but not at the astronomical rate that he did back in the day.
@jaybate-1.0 was that Prof Eagleman? I had him for a meteorology class.. I think he was pretty well known in the weird weather world. (well before the other www.)
