Walton is tough to watch. No question. He makes ya yearn for Dukie V and that is saying alot...

Aren't we much easier to scheme against for conference foes. With only Doke and Mitch? Seems that way to me. Did UT play out of their minds for 35 min yesterday? Or are they just improving? I felt they definitely played 35 min like a team we would struggle against. Doesn't mean we're gonna lose to them. Or the conference. But certainly I don't think winning any of that is a given at this point. And still I mantain that even if we do get Desouza he likely won't be ready to flourish as a incoming green Big in Self's system. We have seen this repeatedly thru the years. BP would be I think the best option simply based on having some time with the team already. But if we can't get him on the floor soon. That ship may sail as well. Then we're simply down to either shooting ppl out of the gym or most likely playing a bad ball style which wouldn't shock me to see alot more of as the season progresses and kids get more and more tired. We can probably play both ways depending on the night. But I think we've all seen how that story ends when it matters most. Although, who knows. It is after all only November

I dont think Self said he was confident Billy would be cleared. I believe he said the matter would be resolved sooner than later... That does not mean clearance. Resolved is finished.. either way. Must be careful about words. They are tricky things. One extra or one missing.... And then those damn ones that have multiple meanings

@KUSTEVE I had meant Bigs. I know we have had many successful guards. Embiid certainly qualifies. Idk why I always think it was his sophomore year that he was amazing

I'm out of the loop. I will admit. But how good is Preston guys and gals? How good is Sousa? And cuncliffe? Reason I ask... There hasn't been really a freshman or newcomer in the Self era to speak of that was highly effective right away. Not even the first year largely unless I'm not thinking of someone. Idk if it's the system. Or what exactly. But I have to legitimately question if any of those additions really make us that much better? Other than more bodies. More fouls. Which of course would help. Maybe some with more knowledge on this can help shed some light

I generally find that I enjoy the season more with low or tempered expectations. But also that they change throughout the season kinda with the ebb and flow of the team. As Self always says. They will play a certain amount of games(5 or so) below and above their average. The other 25 games or so are where the team is really at. You just never know when those games are gonna be. Last night was surely one of the below average games. And still walked away with a W on a big stage. Should be fun to watch where we go from there.

Don't mistake me. I'm not judging nor disappointed necessarily. Just wanted opinion. And kinda to see where everyone's at right now vs where they are later in the season. Like if we run the table in the big12 or something. I think high expectations would result

I'll start by saying mine are not high. Big12 title. And nothing more expected at this point.

Also, I'm a big fan Mitch Lightfoot. No question. Exactly the type of player I love to see. And I hope we all see him become very effective in the years to come.

@mayjay sorry. But that's just taking exception to a few different letters of a couple of the same words. I think everyone understands the concept of why Self said 6 and why ppl here are saying 6. Whether it's only or basically. Yes Mitch was there and yes he was on the floor. But also was very ineffective largely. Coach Self could have meant that very same thing in my opinion. Doesn't have to mean anyone is slamming anyone. It can just be the truth in this case

Right now I could say "NC or bust" as far as making this team special. But in my opinion the 12' team disobeyed that logic. Even though I still believe they had their chances to win that NC. The run was memorable. I suppose largely it depends on each individual. Last years team was special to some. It really wasn't to me. I believe they fell short. Frank Mason was special. He was indeed memorable. Unforgettable honestly to my mind. But if we're talking national perception rather than the opinion of individuals.. it has to be the NC doesn't it? I guess that's what I have always believed and probably always will. Great Topic!

@HighEliteMajor absolutely well said. I agree. I guess that's why I'm trying to hold out hope that Roy actually got better after leaving. And it has nothing to do with being at a different program. That is my hope. Cause I view Self as the same driven type of Coach.. meaning the next 14 should be better than the last 14 which were still pretty great in many ways. And with already having 1 title in there. Dare I say that Selfs next 14 have a good chance of being even better than Roy's last 14? Which would be an amazing run and I think it's very possible

@chriz I have no idea. Idk if it's ever happened. Someone else can probably answer that better than I. Think for sure that no KU player has ever won the AP, the Naismith, and the Wooden. I actually think Roy has gotten better.. atleast on the defensive end of coaching. And let's not forget when he was at KU he wouldn't recruit east of the Mississippi River was it?

@HawkInMizery I seem to think Coach has a 5 year limitation on that. Idk if that's accurate. Maybe someone else can answer that for sure

3 days removed from the end of the season.. still not over FM being done... Not gonna be. Good to see his unanimous AP first team honor. Well deserved. All day I've been thinking.... Geez it's gonna have to be a tough ticket on the night they hang the MASON III number O in the rafters of the Phog. You can bet I will be there on that day

There is no guaranteed better option. And there will not be in my opinion. I'll be all too happy to take my chances with Coach Self and the fact the he is able to adjust and learn and grow. And I believe he will. He is far too hungry not to do whatever it takes in the end. Even if it had to mean taking a step back and reflecting on himself to see if there's something he can maybe do differently. He's a genius at getting the most out of his teams. You don't do that constantly without spending alot of time calculating things in your mind. He had proven himself highly capable and more recently very willing to do that. It only goes up from here I believe.

Surely there is a portion of completely irrational UK fans calling for Cal's job right now as well. Isn't that just how it goes? Truthfully they'd be just as dumb to fire him as KU would to fire Self.

Im still sad we lost. But much more so that I dont get to see FM in a KU jersey any more. That is heartbreaking and maybe a person shouldn't become that invested. But how can you not with a guy like Frank... There's been alot of kids I was sad to see go. But nothing like this. FM is my favorite all time. Of every kid I ever watched play here. He just is. A great guy and even better role model for others. The kind of story you love to hear about let alone watching unfold. If there's any justice in this world FM is player of the year

Absolutely congrats to Martin. As far as moving forward in the tournament I feel like I have to do what I consider to be the classy thing and that's root for Roy. Which is what he would do if we were still in and he were out.

It's really only the E8 game for whatever reason. Self has as good of record as anyone in the FF and the NC game. And better than most thus far. And he is the guy that only gets better from here. I believe that. He knows it's a problem. Any other time he knows something needs adjusted or tweaked he does that. He will do this too. His best tournament runs are yet to come. We're just spoiled and impatient. And we should be. It's KU
