Scott Drew has as many losses in Allen Fieldhouse as Bill Self does now. If I were Drew I'd be a bit envious as well. (I hope I would be gracious in defeat though)

Self’s apparent willingness to limit the exposure of his players to being out of their depths developmentally has always been among his most admirable qualities to me.
Ditto. +100
It takes a Man (or Woman @Crimsonorblue22) to sit a recruit of Diallo's hype because he is not ready yet. The team and Diallo both will be better in the long run for it. As a child I always wanted to peek in the presents under the tree; now I know delayed gratification has the best pay out.
@justanotherfan Yes, but not playing them until they are ready may mean they come back next year?!? As they should...
Where are the Branch Davidians?
Favorite David Koresh joke....They found him out back....smoking.
@ShemanZinghole Why should KU basketball suffer in any way shape or form to cary other non-revenue producing sports? If there was enough demand to see these sports on tv they would be there without hindering KU basketball in any way. Supply would meet the demand.
@Lulufulu We probably shared a beer, given your timeline and mine are identical. I drank many (too many?)a pitcher on $5 pitcher day at the crossing.
Go to the Sandbar (just off of Mass st.) if you want to see people dancing on tables (literally) before noon.
Don't forget to visit Naismith's grave.
Once Diallo figures out how to play team defense and run the O. He will see the court more. He is an extremely athletic undersized tough big with the high motor that Bill loves. It's Bill's typical big. A talented version of Jam Tray. It's just a matter of getting Diallo into the flow of things. Remember Bragg had about 17 games played (2 vs. Canada, 8-9 wug games and the first 6 real games) before Diallo had one. And how many practices did Diallo miss during the WUG trip? Diallo is starting in a hole, nearly a Selby size hole due to the missed summer opportunity. The good thing is there's lots of season left.
Iowa St. Always loses on the road late, so OU needs to lose this one for the easiest road to #12.
@jayballer54 I bleed Crimson and Blue, therefore I crap purple.
@approxinfinity KY-decimation sounds dry...
@JayHawkFanToo I just think most kids these days are into instant gratification. So regardless of the expectations we have, a transfer risk is always a possibility. Come to think about it, we fans are into instant gratification as well, we don't want to wait until next season to see what a more polished Diallo can do, we want him to play now!
I miss the days of a Cole Aldrich, or a Markief Morris sitting in the wings developing and getting on the court when ready instead of being thrust out on day one and making the whole team look watered down and simplified to accommodate a player who doesn't know the system. Inexperienced players cost you fouls on your other players as the others try to compensate on D. They cost you points on offense as the ball will stick, and off ball movement will usually be slightly out of sync. It's a development process and I can't wait to see the finished product. I hope all the freshman are able to contribute at a Sophomore level by years end, otherwise they will languish on the bench as the rest of the team spanks the field in March!
@Crimsonorblue22 it's cool that they can do that (fly them home after an away game b4 break). I was referring to @nuleafjhawk 's Pine Wilt comment. I really like Vick's potential, I want to see him play as a Jr./Sr.! I hope he can get through the dissapointment of not playing much his freshman year. Player development, as hard as it is to watch and wait for it to happen, is much harder on the kids than us fans...
I have seen nothing to lead me to believe he's transferring, it's just a fear of mine.
@nuleafjhawk Hope not. I like Vick's potiental. I'd hate to see him transfer.
Why should I care about a kid who doesn't like KU? Ef 'em. He's not good enough to play for my team.
@ralster I agree, I just think a Collison like career numbers would be Perry's ceiling. I don't think he's the same player as Collison, as Perry projects as an NBA 3 not a 4. Collison was pretty special in college, as is Perry, but neither will be an NBA star.
Crap CBS sports...So no ESPN3. Well at least I will get my sleep instead of staying up late to catch the re-broadcast.
@justanotherfan ahh, Hansborough is like Tebow a great college player, but not talented enough for the big time. I'm afraid Ellis is in that same boat. However, if Ellis catches on with the right program (think Spurs) he may be able to develop into a 10-12 year NBA roll player. I'd expect a ceiling close to Collison (which is one heck of a compliment as far as I'm concerned).
@justanotherfan I imagine Perry has been told so many times to be "more aggressive" and to shoot more. That's why he doesn't look to pass out of the post, in my opinion.
This years teams strength is the three ball. That both excites and scares me. As HEM pointed out good shooting teams will lose on bad shooting nights, it just happens. So expect a few losses this season when no one can hit a shot (i.e. The first half against OSU is an example, obviously energy was an issue in that game too). It's exciting to watch and as long as the ball movement is good there will be open shooters who can hit shots.
My fear is one off night in the tournament and you're done. That's all she wrote. And it will be fire Bill Self he messed up another great team by making them shoot threes. They have soooo many bigs why didn't they pound it inside?
If the tournament was best of 3 from the sweet sixteen on, this team raining threes would win it. Single elimination is a whole different beast and is very unpredictable unless you can dominate on D and score at will in the paint. Unfortunately Ellis has shown time and again he can't score against length, so hopefully the threes continue to fall at a high enough clip to allow victory in April.
@ HEM "The total for Bill Self in 12 NCAA tournaments is a net (-10). That is reality. You can try to explain it away, give excuses, but that his what it is when simply looking at NCAA tournament success."
So how does that compare to other top coaches/programs? Last you pulled this statistic out I showed the math on other top programs. It makes Bill look pretty good. It just goes to show that no program with high expectations year in and year out will meet them every year. It's not an exposure of the team just the seating process.
I contend that the NCAA seeds most teams incorrectly based on media bias. That bias is positive for KU, which leaves our beloved Jayhawks over-seeded most seasons. (i.e. 9 loss Wiggins team was not deserving of 2 seed inspite of hardest schedule - didn't win games)
Bragg and Diallo aren't even close to being the best players 2-8 games into their careers. They may be the most talented players, but today they are no the best.
You play today to both develop players and win to get a good seed. (Unfortunately the freshman arent good enough on defense to leave in the game as the other team was gaining confidense. )That way those now developed platers have the best shot at a national championship.
Hopefully the freshmen develop into the players we expect by years end! If so another final four is a certainty. A NC a strong possibility.
ohh, we can be more decisive! How about another eight years of king obama for a national championship? That should cause as wide divide as I see in the current debate.
Some value national championships over evereything else in life. Some value them highly, but not solely.
I know that's more than the Self era, but it should put things in perspective. What do you have to complain about!?! Tis the season to be joyous!!! Quit your complaining and start singing the praise of these 'Hawks. If you can't bask in their glory, go be a Yankees fan, 'cause that's the only team winnin 25% of the National championships. Or be a Uconn women's "basketball" fan...
@jaybate-1.0 I'm attempting to ignore most of the negative comments as they come from the same few alias's. You know who they are. I know something so assine will be posted that I have no choice, but to respond, but I'm trying not to. It's already be discussed in length how Bill doesn't coach the style that certain posters on here would like to see. But I don't see any D1 programs beating down their doors. It's also be discussed in length about post season success. Bill has had more tourney wins in the last 10 years than anyone.

Take 'yer penicillin before goin' to any redirect sites! Never download anything and maybe you'll be ok... A nessasary evil to lurk online. Damn you Zing-hole for making us stoop to such lows.
Unfortunately ESPN3 is part of the blackout too. If you can stay up late and avoid social media for a couple of hours; the game will be available for replay almost as soon as it goes final on ESPN3. This goes for the blackout area too.
I wish Self wouldn't have played Wiggins so much, his one year development didn't help KU at all. If those minutes had gone to Selden he'd be better today... But fans would cry that Wigs should've been developed for March and that Bill's minute distribution is what caused the loss to Stanford.
It's like giving all the responsibility, raises, and promotions based off of a resume, instead of actual performance.
Chieck will play as many minutes as he earns, 0-40. I hope for all our sakes he's as good as we expect and gets 25+mpg
Happy Thanksgiving all! Here's to contiued health to all, and a basketball team I'm thankful for too!
@MoonwalkMafia Korean, Mandarin, Russian, Arapahoe, Deutsch, Spanish... it doesn't matter. I can't read it, nor do I care to, but I'd sure like to delete it!

@approxinfinity When I go in there it won't let me do anything. I haven't tried to delete one of my own topics, but I bet that'd work. I tried to move the thread, when it wouldn't let me delete it, and it wouldn't let me move the thread either. Looks like it's up to you!
I agree with your sentiment, but I would not even if I could.
I totally understand the KU has a bunch of spoiled fans sentiment.
One loss...I wonder what MSU message boards sounded like last year after they lost to KU at home?
If I was told when Roy abbandoned KU for UNC that KU would be able to hire a coach that would allow the team to finish top 2 in the Big 12 every year, would make the Jayhawks a top 15 team every year, and would win a National Championship (or more). I wouldn't turn him away.
Which coach that KU could have hired in that time frame that could've done the same or more?
Bill has his warts, but who doesn't? Coach K is the best coach in America, but I don't want him. Coach Cal is the best recruiter in America, but I don't want him either. I feel that Bill represents the University as well as anyone can.
I wish I spent as much time in practice watching the team play as many of the posters on this site do. It's quite clear they have a better feel for how playing time should be dispensed than the coach.
I too am disappointed by less than perfection, but I realize that it is college kids trying to execute a plan drawn out by one of the 50 best coaches in the world. I too have college interns that I must train every summer for help. It sucks. Kids don't want to work. They aren't prepared to work. And their parents will usually enable them to be worthless. It takes me all year to whip them into shape and then the most promising ones don't come back (dang OADs) but you've got to take the help you can recruit and run with it.
@AsadZ They fired Mangino and Ted Owens. Both those issues have been addressed. :)
@approxinfinity How do I delete a thread? I was trying to clean up some of the spam, but it says I don't have privileges to even move those chinese spam threads. I know it's no big deal, but I'd like to do a little cleaning for everyone.
@AsadZ We'll miss you. Who you gonna cheer for now?
Drugs are bad, mmmkay?
Looking at those pictures, I've made some poor life choices.
How many kids die each year playing sports? Used to be more people died playing baseball than any other sport. Seems like there are around 20+ people who die each year from football, but it's really getting press right now. Concussions are a bigger problem in soccer, but that bucks the stigma and nobody cares about soccer.
I hope a better concussion protocal and treatment options can be come up with soon. It'd be great if a guy could take a pill after a violent collision and no brain swelling would occurr. Medicine may hold a solution in the future, but for now if you want your kids to be 100% safe let them develop diabetes playing on the iPad.
Thanks to superstition I won't be here for anymore games discussions. It' all right though judging by the hand ringing and mud slinging from one loss in November.
I remember when we used to talk about the great things that KU does...
Free Diallo. Bench Lucas.
box out dang it
It's kinda like the all too elusive Beast-mode from Julian Wright.
@VailHawk I just don't know what Selden needs.
@VailHawk Maybe trade Graham for Nic?
@DanR Didn't make since out of context, but I restored it.
