@justanotherfan Good point, but I meant the Kansas program peaks in the wrong years, not necessarily the wrong point although that was about 5 games in this year.
This season there is no dominant team, but where is KU? Sitting at home with a busted ass team. How would previous years KU teams fair? Most would’ve done better IMO.

@approxinfinity I think this is the best arguement from a KU fan - we were undefeated in Allen Fieldhouse this year; like most years. KU works hard to protect home court it would be nice if that was truly rewarded with home games instead of just a high seed.
10-16k is more people than go to many of the opening round games of the non traditional powers anyway.
Would last years team win it all this year? Does KU just have bad luck and peak at the wrong year?
I wish the NCAAs where played on home courts until the final four. That’s something the NIT gets right.

If you can’t commit for 2 years, go get paid now. See how Lithuania treats you. Don’t make a mockery of our already horrid educational system. Let that scholarship go to a student athlete. But really I proposed holding the university responsible thru scholarship guidelines. This would provide more opportunities to student athletes that are being wasted in OADs, but would allow guys who go supernova an out. They don’t have to stay, but the U doesn’t want to recruit a roster of OADs either.
I value things that others don’t, I suppose. I need a solid commitment at my job from my help. I have had too many big talkers puss out on me. Those I can’t count on are dead to me.
While I wish these athletes would show some gumption and follow through with their commitment I also know things change and kids get out right lied to during recruiting.
So on the other hand;
I also think young men should be allowed to change their minds and transfer freely, but buyer beware. Many of these kids are talented, but don’t know what it takes to cash in on that talent.
Lawson feasts on matchups he won’t have in the NBA. I wish him the best, but it’s likely overseas.

@Kcmatt7 lol, I stuck around at my job so long my boss retired and I took over the business. I’d be ok with it if they allowed highschoolers to go pro and/or didn’t allow college freshmen to play (not so fond of the second one, but it would show a definite commitment and would force the kid to be in the system for 2 years to figure out if he’s any good before he bales due to being work brittle). I’d also be ok with requiring a 2 year scholarship commitment from the university for every recruit. i.e. OADs cost 2 scholarship years.

I count Lawson as a miss. 4 scholarship years tied up between Dedrick and KJ for one meh year from Dedrick that resulted in a third place Big 12 finish.

How good is KUs schedule really? Only 2 wins against teams currently playing. Beat a bunch of first round losers to build the resume, but maybe more games against elite teams could help? IDK
If Bill stays here another 15 years he probably wins one more NC. If he goes to Duke to replace coach K he likely wins 3. Combination of location, Nike, and re-location igniting a fire.
@Texas-Hawk-10 I agree, but a good 3 pt shooting team is an aberration moreso than the norm. That’s why it bounces KU from the tourney. If it was what they faced every night Self would adapt, but 83% of the time he’s proven right with his philosophy. Out of 351 active coaches only coach K, Roy Williams, and Jay Wright have more national championships than Bill. They’re hard as heck to win, maybe being forced into a multi-year approach will benefit Kansas long term with program guys instead of OADs carrying us to the promised land.

I’d be pissed if KUs season ended with mererly a whimper in the night. Passionate fans show their passion. Unfortunately KU doesn’t always win; you’re gonna get low after a loss if you’re gonna get up after a win.
I’m more excited for the future than I am sad about the loss. This year was not a championship year once Dok went down. How does Bill mold these boys into men? What pieces will he add? Who’s going to leave? Where do the shooters come from?!?
Self protects the paint, because teams that pack the paint against KU win. The 2018-19 KU team could have all the open threes in the world; they’d still miss.
Another old quote of Bill’s when asked what he looks for in a recruit - shooters. First and foresmost he looks for shooters. Hard to explain Garrett, but Bill prefers shooters out of HS and to teach the rest. Maybe that’s why Bill likes Garrett, all Self has to teach Marcus is how to shoot and he can lead by example on how to do the rest.

I try to not act like KSU fans. KU wins bring me far more joy than any other team losing (yes even Duke). I may smile when they lose, but I don’t rub it in, because I actually have something positive to cheer for!
@kjayhawks Morningstar started as a walk-on though. You can be a walk-on and get a scholarship for a year and have it taken back away. You can’t be recruited as a scholarship athlete, receive a scholarship, and then be asked to walk on later.
