@Texas-Hawk-10 Don’t rain on my parade. Dok was hurt for 4 of the early games with and ankle injury before going out for the season with a wrist. So not all of the games were won with Dok. (Silver lining to your rain storm)

@Kcmatt7 you beat me to it! It felt like the media struggles to accept sustained greatness and is looking for the next big thing. Heck LeBron should’ve won finals MVP for the losing team, but didn’t because of the stigma.

I know some were lambasting the title, but it’s a good read. I hope it offers some perspective to some hurting fans.

The Streak • Mar 06, 2019 03:41 PM

"This is one of the more remarkable accomplishments in modern college sports, especially in basketball, where there's so much turnover and parity," Scott Drew said. "For 14 straight years, they were able to win a championship. Five of the last six years, it's been ranked as the No. 1 conference, RPI-wise. To be able to do that streak in the No. 1 conference is a true testament to the players they have, Coach Self and their fans. That's remarkable. Nobody does this nowadays.

"It's a lot harder to win a regular-season championship than a postseason tournament. Two games, three games -- people can string that together. But 18 games over January, February and early March is tough, and a lot of those years, it wasn't close."

@BeddieKU23 KU would never take KJ to land Dedrick or any thing similar. 😝 I hope ASU gets stuck with the brother. I also wish I had a brother good enough to get me a scholarship! Remember when Blake Griffin was so good his brother got drafted into the NBA?

Could you imagine this team in an alternate universe where KT seals the deal (legally) and Dok is healthy? How would you like to guard Dok and Zion?

Lots of time left. We’ll see how it plays out.

Too Sooner to Give up OU-KU game thread • Mar 06, 2019 03:14 AM

Yeah, this team just sucks without Dok. Dedrick is a great trashman, but can’t carry a team as the primary option.

Other Games Tonight • Mar 05, 2019 12:07 AM

@BShark I was so looking forward to a season of Dok dominating. Dammit I’ve got to stop thinking about that, it makes me depressed! We’ve got a decent thing going, no need to lament what may have been.

Bracketology Time • Mar 04, 2019 06:45 PM

@kjayhawks Yeah, that madness is why I’d prefer a double elimination tournament of 16-32 teams. But the chaos is fun, just don’t expect the correct team to win every time.

@kjayhawks Last year my kenpom bracket performed the same as my wife’s mascot bracket.

Bracketology Time • Mar 04, 2019 05:39 PM

Net would’ve helped perceptions in 13. No way was that 10 loss team a 1 seed. A 3 seed flaming out vs Stanford would’ve been better optics.

I still think NET undervalued strength of schedule though. No way this years team should be ranked 20th. Nor should they be ranked 2 like RPI.

9-15 seems more appropriate to me at this point. The B12 tourney will likely determine where in that range barring a flame out.

Still no perfect ranking system.

Rule changes • Mar 04, 2019 02:53 PM

I’d give the coaches 2 review challenges per game. For anything they want and like the nfl if it’s overturned they lose a timeout.

I’d really like for the ncaa to add another ref to each game as well. A replay ref who is constantly monitoring the game via video who has the ability to make calls during live action as well thru the sr ref on the court. I think this would both speed up any replays needed as well as increase in game accuracy.

Dotson NBA? • Mar 02, 2019 03:44 PM

What do you speculate Devon’s NBA potiental to be? How long will he wear crimson and blue?

I’m afraid he won’t be with Kansas beyond his sophomore year. Moreso I’m afraid he may struggle to put together a long NBA career due to his height and length. His height is also the reason I think we get him for only two years; if he’s 6’5” he’s gone in one, but being 5’11” (6’2” my ass) he has to leave while the iron’s hot.

Tyler Ullis is probably the best comp I can come up with. He was amazing his sophomore year at Kentucky. Currently he’s injured and out of the league. Isiah Thomas is a small guard in the NBA that’s had recent success, but injuries have derailed him as well.

So what are your thoughts? Will Devon stick around 3-4 years? Will he shine so bright he’s got to go sooner? Does he have enough length to guard NBA guys? (KSU game was a nice start to lock-down D) Can Devon get enough separation to get open looks in the league? Does Devon have a good enough shot for the NBA? (I think so, if he can get open)

The Effort of Grimes • Mar 02, 2019 02:43 PM

Grimes is not ready to star in college and he not ready for the NBA period. Who knows what he decision he’ll make? He’s been told his whole life he’s the next best thing and a OAD going into this season, so this is likely a bitter pill to swallow.

Prove me wrong Q 🤞

Big 12 games • Mar 01, 2019 01:39 AM

@kjayhawks yikes, why’d you voice my fears?!? 😮

At ISU is the game I’m holding out hope for.

It was a good run. Thank you Jayhawks. • Mar 01, 2019 01:29 AM

@BShark yes. He was clearly not 100%. That’s why it would be an easy call to limit his minutes and mask it by sitting him with fouls. But that gives Weber way too much credit. What actually happened is Weber played an injured Wade in an attempt to beat their hated in state rival, possibly at the expense of postseason success.

It was a good run. Thank you Jayhawks. • Feb 28, 2019 03:01 PM

Bill does the same thing. It’s not 100% that they’ll sit the whole rest of the half, but until recently he would banish players with 2 fouls to the bench for the half esp if there is less than 5 minutes left. He also sits them with four fouls until less than 5 minutes dare left as well.

Wade isn’t 100% and ended up fouling out, so it’s hard to say this was a terrible call. The other kid probably should have been allowed to play thru his foul problems though. Guards typically can adjust their game better to avoid calls than big men.

I just hope Weber can scew up a game down the stretch to give KU a chance.

Victims? • Feb 28, 2019 02:51 PM

All the Nike/adidas/UA camps serve the same purpose: to funnel kids to their schools to ultimately make the company money. I just thought it was done thru influence not direct payments. Now I don’t want this to be an isolated incident, as I couldn’t bear the thought that KU was the only one cheating (knowingly or not) and still couldn’t win.

To me it’s like the tour cyclists, they are all cheating so the playing field is level, but let’s just cut the cheating out! The problem is this form of cheating is so ingrained into the system if you go clean without a system wide overhaul all you’ve done Is punish yourself. Meanwhile it’s business as normal for the rest of the teams.

Here’s the view thru the crimson and blue spectacles: Watch the vultures circle while looking vulnerable most of the season. Right the ship. Watch as other teams falter under pressure🤞Win the conference on the way to a dominant March that no one outside of Jayhawk land saw coming. Hoist another banner.

I believe it was Roy who said something along the lines of, “The best thing about freshmen is they become sophomores.”
