My God this may get ugly. It's bad when Garrett is the leading scorer.
For those who lack reading comprehension, @Bwag I said he was a good rebounder and @HawkChamp I clearly stated he had a good game offensively.
@mayjay True but hes not going against B12 caliber bigs so that concerning.
@HawkChamp I have not been even remotely impressed with his skills down low. Shooting the ball 20 times to get 18 isn't good. He has had one good offensive game. I do like his rebounding and passing ability but overall offensively and defensively he hasnt shown me much.
They just played harder the last 5 minutes. The main issues with this four guard line up (which I still like) is poor rebounding, without Doke we have zero post presence, Dedric cant score against average bigs or defend them. The 3 pointers better start falling or not only will we lose tonight but Nova will absolutely blow our doors off with ease.
Need Vick to show up
@BShark didn't like that one, thought about too long. Hey Dedrics like 1 for 14 on the year lol
Dedric is killing us on both ends, missed bunnies and laughable defense
Hopefully Lindsey already signed his contract lol
Great, just after things were looking up for KU football. Let's see what happens, we all remember the Bragg deal.
@HighEliteMajor I don't think its Doke, I think its the 4 guard line up that looks better. We used that line up against Tennessee in OT (Doke was fouled out) and it looked better. We also used it against Marquette with Doke in and it looked good. I think its fairly obvious at this point, that this team needs 4 guards on the court. I'm ok if Self wants to start Doke and Dedric and play 2 bigs here or there but the ball movement and overall play has been considerably better with 4 on the floor. I really don't think there is an argument otherwise , watch tape of both and its a no brainer.
@KUSTEVE I doubt there is a ton to that, Self and him knew what to expect from each other at the USA games. If it’s bad I’d rather just move on from him and not play him again.
@KUSTEVE There some match ups that are bad for Doke for sure but I think our post defense takes a huge hit with him on the bench. Even against Marquette and Tennessee we looked much better with him on the floor. The blessing in disguise is that David hopefully will get some minutes to help develop his game. Hopefully Doke is able to return without missing too many conference games. I rolled my ankle super hard as a junior, made a loud pop and swelled up so bad they had to cut off my shoe (I thought I broke something) but I was fine in a couple of weeks. No need to rush him back at this point even if we drop a few games in the non conference its not the end of the world.
@KirkIsMyHinrich Oklahoma look considerably better than Baylor and Ok State to me, tho they was picked last in the league, good win for the B12
@Crimsonorblue22 if didn’t watch that’s the line up that won the last 2 games.
I been saying all year folks, stick to the 4 guard line up!! It has worked better, just the way it is.
Dotson is faster than Jesus.....on water
I posted on the Wofford thread Grimes would breakout tonight!!! Bingo!!!
Goodness starting to wonder if Vick is gonna score in this one.
The ball movement with this team is terrible unbelievable terrible
I feel lucky they haven’t hit a shot
@Woodrow Dedrics defense isn’t worth a crap
Post defense exposed without Doke
The replay looked like it wasn’t facing right, be very lucky if no ligament damage or breaks from what I’ve seen.
Friends I’m fairly worried Doke broke something there and just made our season a lot tougher.
Anyone else thing its funny how when Urban Meyer's character and judgement is in question, he retire's and blames his health. What a chicken
@Kcmatt7 No links, just what my sources are telling me.
I think it’s a great hire, I know they didn’t have a great season offensively compared to last season but they had to basically start over up front and still put up better numbers than we did playing in the best division in CFB. I’m being told that both Tony Hull and Clint Bowen are going to return as assistants, they both are currently out recruiting. I think everyone agrees Hull needs to stay and I know Bowen hasn’t done great at DC but I think he’s a solid Safeties coach. He had a much better year this season than in the past. I’m fine with him remaining here just not as an DC.
We have seen this before, pro players gets drafted high, has a few decent seasons, gets big contract and then just doesn't seem to care from there forward. Wigs is by all accounts a good kid, he just doesn't seem to have any fire in his game for whatever reason. He was that way here most of the season too, I think we all thought it was because he was a OAD and didn't wanna get hurt.
@JayHawkFanToo Yes, they can still improve on defense playing with 2 bigs. As stated Dedric is slow but its not all on him, some guys aren't helping enough, some are over helping and the communication isn't great to this point.
To bad for Coach Gill, I had a chance to met him a number of years ago in Lawrence thought he was a pretty cool dude. He was a solid recruiter as well. I just think he lacked the control of his players and didn't have good coordinators to succeed here. Hopefully his wife improves health wise.
@BeddieKU23 I think that is defiantly some of the issue for sure. I'm just saying "small ball" is the new norm and has worked pretty darn well, even for us. I think we have trouble guarding the 3 point line with 2 bigs on the floor at the same time. It looked better even with Doke fouled out against Tennessee and if we continue to do so, we will give away some games. Dedric isn't athletic enough to cover the ground he needs to on the perimeter.
@Crimsonorblue22 You missed the point, Stanford didn't do that in their losses.
@HighEliteMajor 100% Agree, as I have stated for a few years now, Basketball is changing. You need good 3 point shooting to win nowadays. Look at the Stanford game for instance, they shot a ton of threes compared to their loses and it its what kept the game close. It's the same way you see the spread offense working in the NFL. People maybe against the change and say it's bad ball but it works.
@JAYHAWKFAN214 Interesting, have they named a new coach yet?
I bet he doesn't say jobless long, would be a nice hire IMO.
@FarmerJayhawk Supposedly he is meeting with KU and Miles currently. Could be an announcement as soon as this evening.
I was really hoping Jayden Russell would commit following his visit this weekend, he did not but sounds like he had a good time. With Snyder retiring Sunday we need to flip Keenan Garber from Free State, he looks like a Steven Sims JR type of receiver. I'm slightly surprised we haven't got a few verbals yet but guys could be waiting on the coordinators to be announced before committing here. It's the perfect time for Miles to get some the guy from in state.
@JayHawkFanToo I agree to a certain extent for sure. The difference to me is KU already plays a stacked non-conference schedule every season, with teams like Dook, UK, MSU, ASU and Tennessee. While Alabama plays a joke of a non-conference schedule. Speaking of WSU I saw they beat Baylor Saturday night. Baylor looks really bad from what I've seen, maybe last place in the league bad.
@BeddieKU23 I think Markus Howard of Marquette is a similar player. He's not as long as Magee but he is quicker and overall a better talent (shorter but gets more rebounds and is superior in passing with ease) IMO. It's odd that we haven't won a game by more than 16 to date but I think we have played a good schedule and thats a big reason why. I think we should've beat Stanford by 15 but we played terrible and they played easily their best game to date. I like the Hawks in this one by 21. I think Vick gets going a little earlier and Grimes breaks out of his mini slump.
@justanotherfan Exactly, the SEC teams are scared to schedule anyone in the non-conference because if they lose, they may not be considered the best conference. I'm tired of most the higher rated SEC team dodging good games. I read an article earlier this season about how teams won't schedule UCF because they don't wan to lose to them .If Nick Saban had any guts he just schedule them, I think Bama prob wins that game 8 of 10 times but hey if you are really the best lets go.
I was hoping he'd stick around a few years so Miles could beat him. Hopefully they dont get Littrell, Leavitt is most likely the guy.
@stoptheflop I thought Marcus did ok fir his talent on offense tonight, missed a few at the rim but could've easily had foul calls on them as well.
@BShark right and with his athletic ability, he should be more aggressive on offense. Maybe he just needs sometime. I trust Self and Co to help him.
@Crimsonorblue22 He is young still, plenty of time but he played very little in the second half against Tennessee and only 16 minutes tonight. It just bad deal when no part of the game he played stuck out good or bad really for like the 4th game in a row. I think we are a better team if he plays well but it all starts with him.
@Crimsonorblue22 that was the recruiting spin on him, inconsistent shot and lack of effort at times. It was known, maybe he can be this seasons Newman but we are too deep to mess around with a guy that won put forth the effort in games.
Oklahoma beats Texas in the rematch for the B12 title and again Alabama comes back to beat Georgia (stupid play call on fake punt that set up the game winning TD for Bama). ESPN and Georgia are lobbying hard that they are one of the best teams and deserve to be in, SMH. If they really choose a 2 loss non conference champ over potentially 2 single loss power 5 champs (if OSU holds on). I’ll never watch the CFP again, they may as well change the name of the CFP to SEC invitational. I think SEC is the best conference but it’s hard to tell because they get away with their top teams playing no one in the non conference. Bama needs to sack up and schedule some besides the Citadel to play. OSU and OU just finished a series last season and even Texas is playing B10 teams on the road.
Thank God Vick came thru in the clutch, it would’ve been a bad omen having lost with Les in the house after being announced at the half.
Notice how the last run was with 4 guards and how bad we looked defensively with 2 bigs tonight. Dedric didn't have a bad game offensively besides getting swatted multiple times which is just gonna happen at this point. But defensively he moved about as fast as my grandma on rotations and let up several easy buckets.
We flat out dont win tonight without Garrett's defense. I'll be honest, I'll disappointed if MG doesn't start Grimes has been lazy and flat out hasnt helped this team since Michigan State.
