@drgnslayr Line 'em up ear to ear, and you can see right through.
@jayballer54 Except for Wisconsin (I think), the others have all put KU out of the tournament. At least if there is a top 8 like this in our bracket, we'd only have to play 3 of them at most.
@wrwlumpy I think I'm not allowed to watch that one.
Not by my wife--by my life insurance company.
@tis4tim Yes, it is certainly more likely to have 5,000 people waiting at the airport when the team is returning from somewhere. Do you see another 4,999 KU fans anywhere?
Reminds me of George Carlin's Al Sleet, the Hippy Dippy Weatherman, from the late '60s or '70s:
"The temperature reading at the airport is 60 degrees--which is stupid, because I don't know anyone who lives at the airport...."
@BeddieKU23 Perfect! Thank you! That was so fun--chills down my back!
@BShark So when do the Purple P----s start using Webber's name in their chant?
@Blown Oh, heck no! I actually think the bigger story was Villanova losing at home to Butler, but I was just hoping that would help FM get POY. If we win out, Nova's loss will hurt Hart relatively.
@Blown On the ESPN thing: The KU conference win by last night was considered inevitable. The Syracuse shot to win was an unexpected development with major implications for perhaps 4 ACC programs, plus for whatever team doesn't dance if Syracuse does.
So, my own parochialism aside, I do understand the choice of what is news. This time, at least.

Self pointed out after the game how different it has become at Kansas because success becomes expected. He said at Illinois when they won 2 Big 10 titles in a row there were 5,000 people at the airport. At KU, "we got a T-shirt." "But," as he always say, "I understand that."
Self and several reporters have commented on the video shown after the game last night and how awesome it was. Does anyone know of a link?
@RockChalkinTexas I hope you have a wonderful time! I am sure that I am not exaggerating when I say this whole Board has had you in our thoughts this year. Enjoy the game, and we will watch for all those signs!
@BeddieKU23 Nice observation. Seems to me college guys like JJ (or Motley or DJ Johnson or Perry, for example) have to worry more when they drive than NBAers do because college defenses pack it in in the paint more. If he can add 25 to 35 lbs and keep his agility and quickness, Josh could bull his way to the rim in the NBA like Lebron. Lately, that league seems to rely on a whole series of 3 pt shots alternating with 1-on-1 contests. If JJ really keeps improving his jump shot, that will open lots of room for him because he is so freaking quick on his fakes, and his passing would keep other teams from doubling.
@nuleafjhawk His passing last night reminded me of Tiny Archibald's early days with the KC-Omaha Kings. His passes were so unexpected and out of nowhere that it took awhile for his teammates to get used to having this rifle shot blasted at them. At first, too, they had a bunch of turnovers and fumbled shots so his assist total could well have been higher. A friend in the Kings' organization told me there were lots of bent and bruised fingers. I loved watching that guy.
I still think Josh could be a PG in the pros, or PF perhaps. Certainly a hybrid wherever he plays.

I still can. But I have trouble when the basket is any higher than that.
@brooksmd Thank you. I didn't mention he spent a few years getting the disability claim approved but it eventually was. The problem was his failure to document it on his way out. They went back through his tecords to determine how many concussive blasts his ears had gone through. Glad you finally got it done.
@JayHawkFanToo Too bad on your hearing. I had a friend who was an Army Armor officer. He lost a lot of his hearing, but in one ear only, from the cannon on his tank because of the way he would stand and from not wearing the famed Michael Dukakis "ears". Forgot to mention it when he had his outprocessing physical, when it was probably only 15-20%. Grew to about 50 to 70% 15 years later. I grew to be very sympathetic with his problem--but it was kind of funny when his wife would reach over and turn his head so he could hear her. They always laughed.
@justanotherfan Snake oil.
@Kcmatt7 A very big part of it is from maturing! Actually, the process of seeing that the world is more complicated than our immediate horizons is a lifelong one of growth and open-mindedness. When you get older, you will be like me--hoping you will continue growing without any more of that effin' "maturing"!
@Kcmatt7 I don't have a lot of knowledge on this, but I think it is US policy not to buy oil from Venezuela because any revenues they get would bolster the anti-US gov't. I can't imagine the Trump administration cozying up to the Castro followers in Caracas. And I don't think anyone would trust the money to flow into the general economy--I would guess you would at best end up with a few oligarchs controlling it, as happened in Russia after the USSR fell.
Now you have me curious. Off to Google!
@Kcmatt7 Yeah, rivalry would be great. It was easy with Quinn at MU, as it is with Squeaky. Maybe I spoke too quickly--it would be rather mean to a KU ass't to place them with a hated school so we end up hating them, too. Let's have one get a job down here in SEC country instead so KU will come play here.
@Kcmatt7 I think that their past practice of nationalizing foreign companies and their pro-"Revolution" philosophy (translate: anti-USA) have made everyone leery of Venezuela's government or trying to do business there.
@jayballer54 Think of it as a combination of the most tasteless leafy green you ever ate with the texture of shedded reptile skin.

I want to win a National Championship just so the elpoyo dosen’t think that we here at KU Buckets are all smug, JoCo a$holes.
Thank you for letting me have one possible consolation prize--if, God forbid, we lose, knowing elpoyo's world is entirely miserable and that he got no satisfaction out of anything from the season.
With that in reserve, let's hope we don't have to drag it out and use it!
@wissox I wonder how they found even that many people with nothing else to do.
@elpoyo The "winning the Big 12 comment" was only regarding a recruit who chose a Big 12 competitor. Obviously, meaning it won't make OU better than KU in their only measured head-to-head competition.
How you read that as giving up on subsequent goals, I don't know. Here is a basic college basketball primer for you to keep with you whenever you are tempted to forget.
Coaches and fans all have the greater goal, a NC. You think you are the only one, but not true. Teams want to, in order, win each game, win any holiday tournaments they are in, have undefeated or almost undefeated nonconference records, win their conferences, and win conference tournaments as steps toward their goal of an NC.
Every team that accomplishes any of these has a better chance of succeeding in the tourney, Any team that does all of these has a huge chance of being a number 1 seed, and that can lead to a better path, either through having sites closer to home or playing lower seeds.
There isn't a coach in America who doesn't care about winning his conference as a step toward accomplishing the NC goal. But there are about 320 who say (after they don't have a chance at the conference title) that their goal is now to succeed in their confernce tourney, and then the NCCAA tournament.
Did Drew say this before the season? Or only after getting swept? Which team do you think he would rather have, a Baylor that won the Big 12? Or a Baylor that had proven to fold under that pressure?
If you can find any post (other than sarcastic responses to you) from any Bucketeer saying they are completely willing to give up on a NC as long as we win the Big 12, I will give up this argument. Note: saying that you won't kill yourself if we don't get the NCAA title, or saying it is still a good or historic year, is not the same as not caring passionately.
@JayHawkFanToo Norm might be an exception, having already coached at St Johns. And with KT being 59, despite having worked at KU for 13 years, I doubt anyone is going to take a chance on him. His alma mater Western Ky passed on him last year, and that was his dream job.
Unless Self wants him to go, I don't know if it makes sense for him to not just ride the HCBS train into retirement. He is making probably $350-$400K per year (last I found was 2013 listing that said $340K). Most small schools might give him a raise to $500K or even $600K, but the security might be iffy if he has to rebuild a no-name.
Interesting idea: What if Marsh gets tapped to go to NCState, and WSU hired a KU assistant? Could bury some hatchets, resurrect the series, and lay lots of crap to rest between the schools.
@nuleafjhawk I like the boat!
@JayHawkFanToo Yeah, I was also just sensitive about being told by Doc to eat kale...it is a scary thought. Sorry again.
I thought we retire jerseys only and not numbers except for Wilt? Anyone know?
Also, an article the other day about Rush's jersey had Self saying the criteria for retirement are fluid, and that there will be a couple more from the '08 team primarily based on what they did after that year. I assume those will be Aldrich and Collins.

I never thought about doing that to see how people put some things on here. So simple, yet so far away.....
@JayHawkFanToo I have asked before, with no one answering, if that was his actual nickname or if it is only used here on this board. If it is real, I said I would withdraw my objection.
A google search shows a 2013 article referring to his players at UI giving him the nickname. I apologize and am deleting my comment.
@RockkChalkk Yes,, asking people to be polite is worse than insults. I apologize if I ruin your day by hoping for civility.
@Crimsonorblue22 I think he could have easily laughed it off, and said something like, "I think it is great that there are still a few hundred MU students attending the school and coming to basketball games!"
I think his bigger issue was with how crappy his team was playing. Calapari has always been dour when frustrated by them.
So, the kids with no Final Fours in their history decide to chant nasties to a coach who has a NC and 4 FFs that have not been vacated?
@JayHawkFanToo Looking at Texas, and Michigan State, and Indiana--and then you can appreciate even more what it means to have HCBS.
Even those of us who think he's amazing are probably underestimating how unreal his consistency is.
@KUSTEVE I will roll back my comments, too. After losing 4 of their last 5, I think SC, if they don't blow getting in yet again this year, is headed for a round 2 out at best.

Cant joke about a mans health and well being, hopefully he is okay.
Usually this is true. But I worked with a 75 year old judge who had remarried right before this story takes place. As he told it, "We were coming out of a restaurant, and suddenly I felt this buzzing in my chest, and I fell to the ground like a limp dishrag. My bride, after she realized I didn't have life insurance, started CPR and did it until the ambulance arrived." He always got a kick out of that story.
(Aside: Later, he filed for divorce and she tried to have him committed so she could get his house and money that way. She lost when his son fought back. After that, we thought perhaps she really did do that mercenary calculation before CPR.)
Turned out his defibrillator was not calibrated sensitively enough to detect the wacky misfiring of his heart's electrical pulses, so it didn't kick in. He told us that when it did kick in correctly, it was like a literal kick in the chest without any warning. I suspect the same thing happened to Huggy, and could easily cause a collapse.
@JayHawkFanToo It could also be a rehab or reinjury problem slowing things.
@JayHawkFanToo Or his surgery might have been less successful than they thought....
@elpoyo doesn't speak for me or he would know that my greatest goal is simply to live long enough to find out he has quit posting here.
@Crimsonorblue22 Pollyanna here is with you!
@kjayhawks I think the Big 12 doesn't want to change the criteria because they will want to eventually expand. Then they will have to adopt an unbalanced schedule, where some teams play twice and others just once. Head to head if only one team gets to host a home game is totally unfair.
@jaybate-1.0 Maybe he is just wearing it because Udoka has started a fashion trend.
@kjayhawks But probably 3, and hopefully 5, more in front of KU fans in KC!
Over 11 pts, over 7 rebs per game starting. His team is 9-15. 3 Americans in starting lineup. That league doesn't limit teams to 1 or 2 Americans like some overseas leagues.
I think at this point no one on the team is worried about starting or not. They are sniffing the real possibility of major success even beyond the historic Streak.
If anyone is worried about "being rewarded" this late in the year, that player doesn't trust his coach, and we are utterly doomed.
@stoptheflop Maybe he is just as dumb as he talks?
