Let's give him this, at least. When Squeaky says "We played hard" he is being literal.
@cragarhawk His cardiologist is probably enjoying it, too. Ours is!
Just voted. Standings
33% for the Gonzaga guy, 23 % for the Dukie, 21% for Frankie.
@dylans From my reading, it is worse. Remember, Joe B. Hall and Tubby Smith weren't good enough for that fan base despite winning NCs.
The current substitution allows HCBS to put Vick in for anyone except LL, and he can be effective. With Josh's always possible foul issues, and Svi's lack of reliability in handling the ball, I like Vick's versatility in keeping KU consistent during the starters' minutes out.
@KUSTEVE Very nice capsules. But I actually think S Carolina will get to the Sweet 16 with a fair chance of getting to a regional final.
Unless they play us in an earlier round. Then F Martin will be so hyperintensified that he might just discorporate. First, the usual glare, then glowing eyes, then steam, then...BOOOOOOM!

replay showed verticality was violated and Lucas made them pay.
The ESPN guys kept saying it wasn't a foul during the NC-UVA game last night. I think they were only looking at the right hand on the top of ball, and missed the fact that the left arm was across Lucas on the way up and the right arm was all over LL's wrist and arm. They often don't call that when the hand is all the way on top.
But, it probably could have been called either way. Bang-bang plays are much harder to call than the level of precision available with the 3,276 slo-mo replays we all get to watch.
At least BU had a chance after that play, so it didn't decide the game.
New Math: KU = 13 x (Big 12)
@HawkChamp That freshman Jackson must be on another team. Interestingly, he is so good he will get POY votes, which could hurt FM's totals if people split between the two.

@Texas-Hawk-10 also I think I was wrong in the UCLA streak was with 3 coaches, wasn't it? Not just wooden.
Correct. 2 other coaches after Wooden.
@stoptheflop Gosh, how fun. But you should have pulled a Morgan Freeman move.
@Lulufulu I was going to mention Billie Jean King vs Bobby Riggs, but no one was suggesting she play anyone under 50!
Glad you took it in fun! Added an emoji!
@Lulufulu I think women swimmers who win medals in the Olympics should have to prove they are good by beating men, too.
And high school football champions should have to play college teams.
The NCAA College World Series winner should have to play the MLB runner-up at least.
Serena vs Nadal, or her records don't mean crap.
After all, if teams can only beat their entire competition, it must mean they aren't any good. They should always have to compete outside their sport to prove themselves.:stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:
@tundrahok Had a couple of big plays late, tho.
@kjayhawks Now what is he saying?!!
My poor emotionally exhausted wife fell to the ground after the final whistle!
@wissox Going with Few. When you defeat all comers, you are at the top of the list.
@HighEliteMajor I love his bench body language. Has anyone ever seen him dejected. He reminds me of Releford in his redshirt year--always first off to cheer on the team, laughing, just basically enjoying the hell out of being a Jayhawk.
@DanR Oh, she tried. In the 90s she did it, or came pretty close.
They all try.
@JayHawkFanToo I think it is very strange to say that their accomplishment means less because they are so good.
This is not the same as Olympic Mens' Basketball, where the US gold medal streak was entirely due to the lack of development of established basketball programs and leagues throughout the world. Nor can it be disregarded as due to systematic chemical cheating, as helped the East Germans dominate Womens' Swimming in the Olympics of the 60s and 70s.
Instead, one program has come to dominate a sport that previously had several major programs vying regularly for talent and titles.
Your stats may well point out why the streak is not particularly interesting to watch, but to deride the success because they are so dominant is simply blind. I don't like watching NE Patriots win so much, but I can't say they aren't as amazing as any team ever.
I don't suppose you think KU's streak is not significant because it has lasted so long so therefore we have beaten all the obviously weak sisters in the Big 12? Okay, you might respond, those have involved close games, and amazing comebacks, etc.
Bottom line, UConn has the killer instinct and ability we have been lacking to our chagrin, and you ridicule them? Dig down, and I think you will find that it is disinterest rather than lack of admiration driving your disdain. You seem too educated a sports fan to be so dismissive of this feat.
@ralster If only you weren't so ambiguous about this topic!:stuck_out_tongue:
@JayHawkFanToo Point taken, but I do think he emphasized the idea of taking out the king.
In a lighter vein, your post suggested to me that the flip was just really a preview of how well he would develop his flop! Trying to get our logo called for a post-game fowl?
"KU is Self-ish--still owns the Big 12!"
"Fake News: Texas Competing for Big 12 Title"
@jaybate-1.0 So, for them, counting sheep at night is a tally?
@KUSTEVE All the Monday night games start here in the East at 9 pm. My wife goes to bed because she has to get up early and if she started watching she would be up for 3 more hours. So my outbursts start with a surge until I remember to be quieter so they fade way out at the end "GOD-darnit..." She still hears me sometimes.
@KUSTEVE Me, too, but if you were someone watching your first TV game wouldn't you wonder what all those Phog references were about? Years ago, as a freshman, I was expecting some fog because I heard the word before ever seeing it and I thought his name was Fog Allen! Long before Internet immersion in all things KU.
@Crimsonorblue22 ??? Just explaining why both fans and nonfans use that name. I was more responding to that complaint about the name, not Fran.
@Crimsonorblue22 Not directly related to Smart. The point is the notoriety and legacy Smart got for winnning a single game. Imagine Trae's if he takes OU over the hump and breaks our streak--even Buddy never could. Should have been clearer.
@KUSTEVE My blood pressure is fine! I just like to think if any recruit ever wavers between us and someone else, they might look to, or be directed to, ancillary sources to see how fans act. To me, it is like screaming obscenities at an opponent at a game--a few drunken jerks can give an entire fanbase a bad name.
And I admit tthat my paranoia on this is ironic, given his signature tagline!
Just a thought about Trae: I wonder if Lon used a video of Marcus Smart doing the flip after OSU's win in AFH and then said:
"So, Trae, how many players have had the experience of beating KU at AFH during their conference win streak? Everyone remembers Smart. Think about what it would men to end that streak! Do you want to be known as just one tagalong player in a long line of champions, or do you want to be someone who took OU to the top? What legacy do you want? Buddy was our best--can you be better?"
I think, if he wants to be noticed and has confidence, that would be awfully convincing coming from a class act like Kruger.

And FYI, itβs ALLEN FIELD HOUSE, not Phog Allen Fieldhouse damnit
Well, remember that everyone sees all the Phog-related signs on TV, certainly more than the cornersone plaque or the entrance, so they can be forgiven if they use what they could assume is the full name. Using both Phog and Allen does help keep the meaning of "Phog" out there for people who aren't as immersed in KU BB history as we are!
@jayballer54 Nice post. Good perspective. If you want to borrow some additional problems to help take your mind off bb, let me know!
@RockkChalkk And of course you know what was in his head for six months? He is actually accepting a bigger challenge and you find something bad about it. And then act like a rejected teenage boy who posts trash talk about the girl who saw his character for what it was and turns him down.
You hope he loses every game... well, if nothing else, you have justified my comments about some KU fans being arrogant!
@BeddieKU23 said:
Definitely, they trolled Self. I hope Self uses it next year when they play each other.
How trolled?
@BeddieKU23 That is fine, of course, but that is competitive spirit, not wishing someone fails or putting down his character as some have. Remember the people at UK who wanted Diallo to get hurt, or the MSU anti-Josh comments?
@RockkChalkk Real good sportsmanship, there.
Please, let us show the class we always contend we have:
Good luck, Trae! Thank you for considering us. We wish you every success and hope your choice turns out well for you--except against us, of course. We look forward to the heightened competition!
@Eric-san Back atcha! But life will go on regardless. At my age, I add...."fortunately!"
How about A?
@BeddieKU23 Well, sometimes if you pass on top tier you don't get the alternatives either. Gotta go for the fences. This has been a constant refrain (complaint) but KU somehow continues to struggle on despite all that misspent recruiting energy.

@Crimsonorblue22 i don't think he is selfish, did I say he was?
I think she was joining your praise by pointing out he did it without being selfish as so many players do. Add a "And wow!" to the front of her post.
Edit: I see she responded.
@Crimsonorblue22 I am still thinking about all those great KU games you have attended. All the biggies! Jealous!
Linkee no workee for meee.... It says it requires a Captcha image but isn't generating one on my phone at least. Will try on PC later today before doing taxes. (Happy birthday to me, huh?!)

Good luck beverage
Same stuff I've been sippin' lately. Good taste.
Have you tried single malt 12 or 15 year Scotch? More expensive, but soooooo smooth! Incidentally, I picked up a bottle of a special reserve limited production Evan Williams bourbon (this particular type not sold in the US) in St. Maarten last year on a cruise. Absolutely the best. Gave it to my brother for coming to take care of Mom, but he left it here because he flew. Yee ha!
@jayballer54 Don't give up. These herd mentality opinions tend to be driven by one source who may not have any reliable info, but are perceived as likely to (teammate or cousin, etc). And if it true, and if the leak came from an OU source, he could be p'ed enough to change it in the announcement.
And there is always the possibility of Darrell Arthur's own dream weaver paying him a visit overnight.
@chsguy2008 He might just want to be able to take his laundry home every weekend.
@kjayhawks They are trying to get into the famed "Play Hard Chart" tournament. Everyone gets a trophy, and a lollipop.
Two threads on this topic!
