Mid range shooting • Nov 21, 2014 09:54 PM

@Kong not more than I ever wanted to know. Hang around a while - you will find out "amazing" things about all of us - lol. From our favorite music to gardening tips to serious things like losing beloved pets and friends and family members.

This really is a special forum (at least to me) and I really want to apologize sincerely for not being very welcoming to you at first. I'm usually a pretty nice guy. That's what I keep telling myself......

Mid range shooting • Nov 21, 2014 08:53 PM

@Kong Oh! That's very cool - I did go to that link and check it out. (and I'm not sure how to link it either, usually some good samaritan will come along and do it for us...)

It looks very similar to some terrain (not really sure they're mountains) that my family and I traversed in South Dakota a few years ago. It's funny - now that you told me what it is, it looks pretty clear to me.....

Mid range shooting • Nov 21, 2014 08:08 PM

@Kong I apologize, I'd like to blame my computer, but more likely it's my eyes - if you're so inclined, could you please tell me what your avatar is? I can't quite make it out. Thank you.

@Kong I didn't actually say that I would take him as KU's coach, rather I asked if there was anyone that would not.

You would know how I "operate" if you've ever read anything here before joining.

I'm done with the negativity. This is a forum where everyone is entitled to their opinions and for the most part, we all get along very well. I'm sorry we got off on the wrong foot. There is no BUT.

RCJH

@Kong

I SAY - "I don't give a crap about Calipari one way or the other."

YOU HEAR - "I am glad you like the guy"

mmmmmmm - has your wife, girlfriend or significant other ever casually mentioned that maybe you don't listen as well as you could?

And I have no false premises. I said it's ridiculous for people to degrade him without knowing all the facts and that he wins a lot of basketball games. Not false. And their STATS, just like I said, are virtually identical. Not their personalities, not their perceived or actual indiscretions - their STATS.

One other thing. How badly is your world going to crumble when Bill Self is accused of some sort of immoral/illegal activity? Cheating on his wife. Cheating on his taxes. Only tipping the waitress 5 %. Not weedeating his yard every time he mows. Telling the world that he doesn't wear a rug.

It could happen. He's human too my friend.

@drgnslayr I appreciate the sentiment, but I don't see you disowning KU basketball even if Charles Manson were the coach. You seem to invest about as much energy, time and insight into the program as some of the paid staff ! (That's a compliment, by the way)

You're right about fans flipping to ice hockey though. It's not just the University of McDonalds in Lexington that's dragging college basketball down though. For me, most of it is the work of the NBA and the OAD "system".

Up until about 5 years ago, I recorded every KU game, exhibitions included. I would watch them over and over, not to dissect game plans or study x's and o's, just because I loved watching them. Now I rarely record a game, because my interest level is nowhere near where it used to be. (But my blood pressure's a helluva lot lower....)

I used to love watching kids " grow up " over the course of 4 years. I was so disappointed when Paul Pierce left after 3 years, now I would do a double back flip and land on my pinkie if anyone stayed three years.

@Kong Thank you so much for your permission to have my point of view! It is very much appreciated.

My point is this: Not one of you personally knows John Calipari. Myself included. Yes, we're all aware of his reputation.

Is it possible that, in the wide, wide world of sports that we tend to "hate" people, teams, organizations because maybe we're a teensy bit jealous of them? Hmmmmm.

Anybody hate Coach K? ( I'm raising my hand )

Anybody hate Christian Laettner? ( hand's still up )

University of North Carolina? Duke? Kentucky? U-Conn (Men & Women's), New England Patriots, San Francisco Giants, Peyton Manning, Tom Brady......on and on and on. ( Yes, my hand's still up.....)

Oh yeah - a few years ago the University of Illinois had this arrogant prick of a "coach" that we all hated. He couldn't coach his way out of a wet paper bag. He just recruited (or was it "hired") thugs from the inner city to come in and beat, bang and bruise the opponents until they wore out. What was his name again?

I don't give a crap about Calipari one way or the other. I just think it's ridiculous for everyone to point fingers and degrade him when no one really knows him. If you want to talk about his ability to coach, I double dog dare you to compare his stats with Bill Self. Any number of websites can help you with that, statsheet.com being one of them. They're the same person when it comes to what happens on the court. Their stats are virtually identical.

@Kong Good points.

He also beat the piss out of the second most winning team of all time.

"Many of his teams rely solely on the recruiting advantage he attains."

Plus that ^ little ditty.

For all the Calipari bashing, here and in every other thread, is there really any one out there in poster land that wouldn't take him as our head coach?

If not, why? And please use some other reason than he's a slimy, two faced greaseball who wins a helluva lot of basketball games.

The Debrief, After The Beatdown • Nov 20, 2014 11:25 PM

I didn't realize how serious the beatdown really was until the next morning.

When the normally sadistic and abrasive K-State fans came up to me and put a hand on my shoulder and said they were sorry. And I think they actually meant it.

Taking a deep breath after KU-UK debacle • Nov 19, 2014 10:10 PM

@JayhawkRock78 I recorded it as well (after about the first 12 minutes) and enjoyed catching up on my Buying Alaska shows. I used to get worked up and throw stuff and send my blood pressure through the roof, now I realize that I don't HAVE to watch a beatdown and just turn the channel.

RENTLESS ONSLAUGHT! • Nov 19, 2014 02:18 PM

@bskeet I think we played better against the Topeka YMCA

KU vs UCSB • Nov 14, 2014 05:11 PM

@Lulufulu " I am not in Kansas any more."

For the love of God - please go to any basketball game in Vermont and hold up a sign that says that.

This is an official CivilHawk alert! • Nov 13, 2014 12:40 PM

Where ya at bro?

A few of us have been leaning towards the un-civil as of late - it's time for an intervention. (Pssst - tell em basketball will be here SOON - it's gonna be OK)

Dooms day bunker • Nov 11, 2014 07:43 PM

I'm not a dooms-day kinda guy. If I was loaded, I'd buy a few nice houses. One on the beach somewhere on the Gulf Coast. One in the mountains. Maybe a nice log cabin on a salmon packed river in Alaska to visit for a couple of months.

If I had all the money I spent in my youth....... I spent a fortune on booze and broads.

The rest I just wasted.

Out with old in with the OAD • Nov 10, 2014 03:33 PM

@wissoxfan83 I feel the exact same way. That's the main reason that I don't watch the NBA - too much team hopping going on, you never get a chance to know the players. I want guys that bleed crimson and blue, that are proud to be at KU and who are involved in the community. The one and done's mean nothing to me. I'm not an Andrew Wiggins basher, but I'm just saying that he will never mean as much to me as say Scot Pollard. Who's the better ball player? We all know that. Who's more fun to be around? We all know that too.

@wrwlumpy - We're gonna win 3 National Championships in 10 years ?

Player nicknames • Nov 06, 2014 03:20 AM

@JayhawkRock78 How about just " FM ". No static at all.

@wissoxfan83 aw shucks, you know I heart you dawg.

I'm pretty sure none of us are perfect, but I'm talking about the lying and cheating that is habitual. A way of life. As someone mentioned earlier - Calipari kind of lying and cheating. That's probably not fair, but as Jayhawks, it's kind of fun!

Buckets shout out on old site • Nov 05, 2014 05:32 PM

@wissoxfan83 Tell me about it when you find out - I don't want to know badly enough to actually go there!

First Exhibition: Mason Was The Star • Nov 05, 2014 05:13 PM

@drgnslayr It's perfect the way it is - I wouldn't change one damn word.

Well, maybe I would change it to say " TRob isn't known for his strength (except with KU fans), he is known for his motor/heart."

First Exhibition: Mason Was The Star • Nov 05, 2014 04:40 PM

@drgnslayr Weird - I can edit it - hence the "test".

What you wanna say bro - I'll be your editor in chief.

I'll be interested to see how it all finally pans out.

This is the kind of stuff that humbles me though. As much as I whine about losing to mid-majors at the end of the season, or any loss for that matter - I'd rather have a 10 WIN season honestly than be 40-0 by cheating. I'm not just saying that - I frickin hate liars and cheaters.

I hope Bill Self feels the same way.

@KUSTEVE , @wrwlumpy , @drgnslayr @VailHawk (and now me)

Thanks for screwing up the @jaybate-1.0 ONLY thread.......:(

lol

The Only Question Was "Who" • Nov 04, 2014 08:11 PM

@JayHawkFanToo I've heard that said before (about boats). I guess it depends on the individual. I LOVE my boat. I get it ready to hit the water in late March or early April, weather permitting and use it every chance I get until late November or early December. The kids still enjoy tubing and skiing (my bones aren't wild about either one anymore) and the wife and I fish as much as we possibly can.

I had an 18' above ground pool one time that we enjoyed for 3 or 4 years, but it WAS a lot of maintenance and don't think I'd do the pool thing again. I'll just swim at the lake from my boat!

Greene suffers concussion against Washburn • Nov 04, 2014 03:46 PM

Not to worry - Washburn should be the most physical team we face all year.....

First Exhibition: Mason Was The Star • Nov 04, 2014 02:05 PM

@DanR OH!

I thought those were " WHOOPS! " haircuts.

The Only Question Was "Who" • Nov 04, 2014 12:27 PM

@Crimsonorblue22 Yes, several years ago. Thank goodness we won. I would have walked the three hours home.....

The Only Question Was "Who" • Nov 03, 2014 10:00 PM

@JayhawkRock78 .....sigh.....well, I used to like you. lol

OK - sometimes I get a tad carried away.

The Only Question Was "Who" • Nov 03, 2014 09:01 PM

@ralster I think it's terrible to single out Craft.

You should take out your wrath on ALL Buckeyes (isn't that an acorn?) everywhere.

I have so much contempt for them that I don't like anyone from Ohio, anyone that wears any combination of red/silver/gray and white or anyone who has ever driven through or flown over the state of Ohio. Blah.

They are extremely close on my hate register to Mizzou, Hitler and Ebola.

But I mean that in the nicest possible way.

The Only Question Was "Who" • Nov 03, 2014 08:52 PM

@Crimsonorblue22 I know that is a popular theory, but how do you prove it? I don't remember thinking he was a pushover on defense. Shorter than most maybe - but not afraid to step in front of someone and take a charge.

The other thing is, as stated above, he did NOT turn the ball over. Almost ever. He was smart and he was a very good free throw shooter.

Hopefully after tonight we won't be talking about him, but I just think he got a bit of a raw deal. I'm trying to put myself in his position. I'm a very competitive person and if I thought I had more to offer on the court than on the bench, I'd want to go elsewhere too.

The Only Question Was "Who" • Nov 03, 2014 08:48 PM

@HighEliteMajor "But Self simply values the three point shot less than many of us do."

You're right. He may want to reconsider. I know he's in love with the high-lo, but most of the time, when I do the math 3 > 2.

How many games have we lost by being outgunned? Several.

The Only Question Was "Who" • Nov 03, 2014 08:39 PM

@Crimsonorblue22 Here's the deal. I think we all know that on paper, we can make statistics say whatever we want them to say.

Perry Ellis was the leading 3 pt shooter last season. .471. You want Perry bombing from downtown all day long? Nor do I.

Frankamp has the ability to push that number close to 45% consistently - IF he gets enough playing time to stay sharp. Of course he was a lousy shooter last year, he only averaged 8 minutes a game and many games he saw way less than that.

If you were just looking at paper, you could say Conner should have started instead of Andrew Wiggins - look at the turnover ratio.
CF had 3 - THREE turnovers. An avg of .111
Andrew Wiggins had 80 turnovers. An avg of 2.286.
That's why stat's aren't the only thing to consider.

I'm not Bill Self. He probably knows what's best. But it's hard for me to fathom not playing a guy like CF who is deadly from beyond the arc and the foul line, and doesn't commit a lot of stupid turnovers.

I'll be willing to bet his next coach doesn't make the same mistake.

The Only Question Was "Who" • Nov 03, 2014 07:33 PM

@JayhawkRock78 I lived in Austin for a year in my youth. My wife and I lived in Houston for almost 10 years after we got married. I have a lot of love for the state of Texas. (not the sports teams though! lol)

The Only Question Was "Who" • Nov 03, 2014 07:31 PM

@Crimsonorblue22 Hmmm. I've never heard Conner described as a "poor shooter". Now I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not.

If he was a poor shooter, it probably was because he was out of practice. It's very hard to shoot a high percentage with your ass glued to the bench.

The Only Question Was "Who" • Nov 03, 2014 05:03 PM

@Crimsonorblue22 lol - for once I was being serious. They were very similar in my mind. How would you describe the differences? Besides the fact that Boschee actually got to play major minutes.

The Only Question Was "Who" • Nov 03, 2014 05:01 PM

@JayHawkFanToo Last month, I let my wife make a major life decision.

We buy a snowblower or we move to Texas.

The snowblower looks very nice in my garage.

The Only Question Was "Who" • Nov 03, 2014 12:12 PM

@VailHawk There were a lot of similarities between Boschee and CF.

Yep - Boschee would have been toast on this team.

Tomorrow and other topics • Nov 03, 2014 12:11 PM

@KULA I just wish you would come out and say what's really on your mind.

Self is normally the consummate politician, but I think he said something really stupid (at least insensitive) the other day.

"We've lost obviously a very good shooter," Self said, "but we may have also gained some chemistry issues" (italics added)

Why? Just say we lost a good shooter. A hard worker. Nice kid. Whatever. Keep the chemistry issues in the locker room - not to the press.

I don't think Conner ever got the respect he should have. By the coaches and by most of us fans. I am gonna go out on a limb and exclude myself - I think Self screwed up last year by not playing him a LOT more. The Stanford game drove that point home for me.

I hope he goes for 30 a game where ever he goes.

Yes, I'm pissed.

Conner gone? • Oct 31, 2014 06:44 PM

@bskeet - Forte ?

Conner gone? • Oct 31, 2014 04:56 PM

@Bwag If he does transfer, I hope it's not to someone we play. I can easily see him hitting 6-7 threes per game. Maybe more against us.....

WS Game 7 -- Winner Takes All • Oct 30, 2014 07:10 PM

@wissoxfan83 I know - I thought about not even posting that, but it's the truth.

All I can say is a BUNCH of us old timers quit watching "America's best sport" 25-30 years ago. And some of them didn't watch this series either!

Funny thing is, I LOVE watching/coaching/little league and softball - I lose some of that love every time I go to a pro ballpark and wait for my credit card bill to show up. It's just obscene how much it costs to pay these players.

Well - now I remember why I didn't watch for so long...........

WS Game 7 -- Winner Takes All • Oct 30, 2014 11:19 AM

Until the Playoffs, I hadn't watched a single inning of Major League Baseball in 25 years.

I watched every pitch of every game since the Wild Card game.

I can't believe my heart is broken after watching a team for one month.

Thank you 2014 Kansas City Royals for renewing my interest in baseball.

When Will The DVD Be Available? • Oct 28, 2014 02:35 PM

@drgnslayr Buy a kubuckets t-shirt, get a DVD for free......

@Crimsonorblue22 Roy Williams.

I loved him.

I hated him.

I liked him.

I felt sorry for him.

I still love him.

KU Buckets T-Shirts • Oct 25, 2014 10:30 PM

@drgnslayr I'm sorry - I think the whole world is too sensitive and politically correct. It's a funny picture - it deserved a funny comment. Thank you. While I believe none of us on here would make fun of her (or hopefully anyone else) to her face, if we can't have a little fun with a picture like that, we may as well shut down the internet.

KU Buckets T-Shirts • Oct 25, 2014 03:40 AM

@approxinfinity mmmmmmmm. Well..... Uh....... I don't know - my eyes aren't perfect any more, I guess. But - that particular picture ain't pretty to me, no matter what age she is.
