@wissox jaybate????
@Crimsonorblue22 Maybe this year will be the start of MORE good Royal days!!
@benshawks08 Well, i had to take some time to think about what you said. After looking at it, i definitely could have worded it better. A LOT better. I said I had to take some time to think about it because when you mentioned the lack of empathy, it kind of got to me. In real life (as opposed to an anonymous basketball blog life) I do consider myself to be empathetic. I'm a Christian and I take the way I talk to and treat people very seriously. Having said that, that also means I'm a human and we tend to goof up sometimes. I slipped on that post and I apologize.
I'm still not a fan of the OAD thing, but I"ll try to really watch what I say from now on in regards to those kinds of things.
Hey - we should do Game Day chats for baseball like we do for basketball...............
Who doesn't have a spare 3-5 hours 162+ days of the year ?
@Fightsongwriter with a pearl in it!
@HighEliteMajor Believe me, nobody wants us to succeed more than I do, but this year - it wouldn't have mattered what bracket we were in - sooner or later we would have come up against a team that could shoot threes and we would have stood back and quivered in our Adidas.
@Fightsongwriter I wonder what our basketball lives would be like now if Roy had grown up in Kansas, played at Kansas and got his big coaching break at North Carolina, only to come back to KU after 15 years?
@Crimsonorblue22 No doubt. And after she did, she'd probably stare me down and call me "Precious".
The University of Texas really should be ashamed. The Frank Erwin Center has capacity of 16,700 (approx) and in the quarterfinals of the NIT, UT is playing on their home court in front of.........3,000? I'm just guessing on that number but it looks like a ghost town. I know its the NIT, but show your team some a little respect.
@Hawk8086 is this the same fellow that got beat by a girl in the dunk contest?
@Kcmatt7"This is no different than leaving a job for another that you may be more interested in"
Yes, in my 43 years of employment I have changed jobs. I won't count my High School jobs or my first ....I guess i'd better make some kind of money to pay rent job - after those I spent close to 9 years at one job, we moved to another state and I spent close to 9 years at the next job (was laid off) and have been in my current job for 22 years.
So, I guess my opinion is that I'm not a big job hopper.
What sets that apart from the college basketball playing that we're talking about is this:
When I started looking for a "real" job, not every single major, high paying company in the free world was sending me letters, knocking on my door, offering to buy cars, houses, hookers, whatever it is that's on the table these days in order for me to come work for them.
I was the one who had to put in the legwork. I had to make sure my resume was good. I had to look and act decent at interviews. People were not begging me to work for them and pay me whatever i wanted. Even through those circumstances I felt a certain amount of loyalty to my employer for the time that they did invest in me.
I feel that when colleges invest thousands of dollars, plus the time involved to recruit players, the players should feel some sense of loyalty, some sense of obligation to stay there. Of course, there are always circumstances that dictate that a player must go, but it should be, in my opinion an extreme rarity.
I know my values are outdated, old fashioned and not realistic with todays society, but that's how I feel.
@jayballer73 I'm sorry. I must be a backwards, anti-social pig of some sorts, but I can't get excited AT ALL about someone named Precious. I don't care if he's the next Wilt.
We should start a FAN Declaration thread. Except we'd have the same issues with any other team. Our society has deemed that a player's potential is worth more than his actual worth. The players and their families are exceptionally greedy - I don't buy the sob story that they're poor and need the money - if they've been broke for 18 years, they can make it another 3 years and then they and their families really will be set for life (assuming they have a good agent and financial advisors).
I'd bet money (because I'm exceptionally greedy.....) that if you polled 100 players that had gone the OAD route, at least 80 of them (the 80 that are sitting on the bench or playing in Madagascar) would tell current students - STAY IN COLLEGE. Have some fun. Enjoy your life. This is a JOB.
@jayballer73 Because nobody can commit to anything anymore. No loyalty. Everybody wants to be the star of the team and not a team player.
@BeddieKU23 All the heavy hitters - plus KU.
@HighEliteMajor That was a very good post back in 2014. I didn't reply directly to you, but this was my response to that post back then:

I think there’s room for everyone.
We can have the solid four year guys that want to get an education and play a high level of Division I college basketball.
Then we can have a whole separate league of OAD’s. They could all be on travelling teams sponsored by Barnum and Bailey.
" What in the wide, wide world of sports is a goin on here ? "
If you're still watching the tournament, who are you rooting for?
Believe it or not, I've rekindled my man-crush with Roy, so -
GO TARHAWKS!
@Fightsongwriter I am DOA (done and over) the OAD's as well. It might be different if we had one that actually made our team better instead of making it worse. The only one I can think of in recent years that even came close was Josh Jackson, but I'm still not sold.
@BeddieKU23 Charlie Moore was a Kansas caliber player this year....
Random thought:
I hate Duke so bad I hope they take Montego Air flight 828 to their next destination.
@BeddieKU23 PLEASE tell me you're kidding.
@Crimsonorblue22 Fightin words ma'am.
But I'm ......he's .........right - we're..........they're still playing.
@jayballer73 I don't want this guy. Not unless he changes his name.
How about VLAD?
Or Zeus?
Maybe Gunnar?
Cleotis might be OK. Yeah, Cleotis Achiuwa. Nice ring to it.
Anything but Precious. We have enough Precious' on the team now.
As I halfheartedly looked at the brackets today, I see that EVERY 1, 2, 3 and 4 seed advanced to the Sweet Sixteen.
Except KU and K-State.
REPRESENT
@kjayhawks Lol, yeah I finally figured out that it didn't matter how far I could hit it, it was how far could I hit it straight! I did get better on putting, but finally decided I'd rather fish than golf. There's a lot more excuses available why I can't catch fish than why I couldn't hit the ball straight.
BeddieKU23 said:
"the guys lacked confidence in taking shots. I watch other teams just let it fly"
That pretty much sums up the whole season for me. This team, as a whole, had no confidence. No swag.
I had zero fun watching them play this season - as a matter of fact, when they got down 8, 10, 12 points (which was OFTEN), I would turn and watch something else. I'm at the age where i don't feel it necessary to punish myself watching this garbage when there's so much other garbage on TV to watch.
Self can talk about recruiting shooters, ball handlers, shot blockers, whatever things he's looking for - but he might want to consider recruiting players who give a crap about winning and not losing.
@BeddieKU23 I was always a "Tin Cup" golfer.
When I was good - I was really good. When I was bad, I broke a whole bunch of clubs.
I was bad more than I was good. My revelation that I probably wasn't going to be a pro golfer was when I was getting ready to tee off (playing by myself one day) and an older man, about 65 (I was 23 or 24) asked if he could join me. Of course I said yes. He asked if I wanted to play for money and I politely refused ( I felt no need to embarrass an old man ) but he insisted. So we played for $20. The first tee, I hit my driver about 350 yards and his might have gone 200. I was already planning how to spend my 20 bucks. On beer, probably.
Long story short, of course he beat me. I out distanced him by miles on every shot, but of course he hit his straight down the middle and i spent half my time in the rough looking for balls, or watching them go in the ponds. It also didn't help my cause that he putted like Jordan Spieth and I putted like.......me.
I wonder how the old man spent his $20? On beer, probably
@Fightsongwriter Yes. This trend needs to stop now.
I'll quit talking about Roy (probably), but I loved his enthusiasm. I loved his jacket throwing, I loved his semi-frequent technicals, I loved when he cried after a big loss.
Self mostly seems detached emotionally. You got to have a leader that's on fire before your players will be on fire.
I'm not a complete idiot, I don't want Self to leave, but I wish He'd go take some motivational leadership classes or something.
@Bosthawk You know better. Duke will never lose. Ever.
I watched this debacle. I was more disappointed about UCF losing ( notice I didn't say Dook winning) than our pounding yesterday.
Go whoever's Playing Dook !
I just want someone that HATES to lose.
Think Frank Mason.
First time I ever remember shrugging my shoulders and thought "guess I'll get the boat ready and go fishing".
After Doke got hurt and LV did....whatever he did it was pretty obvious this was going to be a lackluster season at best.
What was the final record ? (I honestly don't know, don't really care, don't want to look it up) I'll say it was 25 - 10. It says a lot that we think that's a suck season. It's a GREAT season for a lot of teams - maybe the best some schools have ever had.
I said something on the game thread last night about missing Roy, and I'll tell you why I said that. All of Roys teams had FIRE. They played their butts off every game, all game long. I miss that. Not all, but many of Selfs teams just seem lazy. Lackadaisical, whatever you want to call it. We play the way I want our opponents to play. Like Pu**ies.
Y'all enjoy the rest of your weekend. Football season will be here soon. It's been fun.
@Kcmatt7 I know it sounds crazy, but in my heart and mind I would beat Q one on one 10 times out of 10.
I'm 6'0, 220 lbs -oh and I'm 60.
I hope they start with a clean slate and get some guys that give a crap.
I
Miss
Roy
Please forgive me.
@kjayhawks we're so bad tonight, K-State could beat us.
@kjayhawks doesn't matter - would you rather be spanked by them or Auburn?
When does football season kick off?
@Crimsonorblue22 I admire you. I quit when it was 15-5.
So, are we going to get hammered by 40, or just kill it in the second half and only get spanked by 15?
At least I won't catch any crap from the K-State losers. Unless they forgot that they lost too.
@HighEliteMajor tonight he's a Richard Noggin
I particularly enjoy watching big mouth Barkley spouting off about Auburn. Aren't people in his position supposed to be somewhat neutral?
@BShark it IS! I'm learning not to watch this crap
FYI - There's a good episode of Lake Commando's on right now. Or 234 other channels that aren't airing KU embarrassing the crap out of me.
@wissox said: a team of which I am more of a fan than even KU, the White Sox.
You had to say that out loud, huh? SMH
@DanR but his head is.....
@DCHawker In an hour or so we might wish we were OU
@wissox Or if LV had pulled his head out at any point.........
apparently Bill unlearned them how to play ball at the half
