Black Friday is right. Ugh.
So, Dave blocks the shot and it still turns out bad. Maybe should have not tried to swat it into the stands and finessed it like Withey used to do.
Wow.
Are you kidding?
Gonna have to hit FT
12-2 run. I said 20-2. I was a little off, but it's not over yet.
Now, D up and this one is ours.
Double Boom!
Boom!
Time to see what we have in this team.
It begins ...
Here we go ...

This is where our upperclassmen assert themselves, calm everyone down and execute. Still lots of time left.
We are not losing to these guys.
@approxinfinity said in Dayton Game Thread:
@tis4tim agreed but maybe that gets fixed. I mean he has been practicing with the team.
I know: small sample size, but his whole incident was such a disruption so early in the season. Hopefully, he'll turn it around, but I don't see anything improved in his game thus far from last season. I don't have a lot of confidence in his play.
This won't be a popular opinion, but I don't like the Wilson effect on this team. I think we had better chemistry before his return.
Dayton spent their wad coming back from a big deficit. They will fade.
Ye of little faith. 20-2 run coming to a game near you very soon.
@BShark said in Bill Talkin:
Bobby and Remy have been hurt apparently.
That's one way to cinch up the rotation. :(
Where's Steve Henson? Maybe they should go after someone like that who was on some really good KSU teams and understands what it means to be a Wildcat. I really want the rivalry to return.
Troy shouldn’t being doing Cowboy games.
This is just my humble opinion, but while Troy would seem to have a conflict of interests broadcasting the Cowboys game, I believe he was there more for the Arrowhead experience than for his beloved Cowboys.
It's easy to tune out Joe Buck and Aikman for their banter, but they said on multiple occasions how incredible the venue and the tailgating experience is in Kansas City and how it's one of the best atmospheres in all of sports. And they're correct. The Sunday ritual takes a backseat to no one and I'm sure any broadcast team would want to be a part of it to soak up the sights, the sounds, the smells and the tastes that come with game day in KC.
Milt Newton! Kenny Gregory, Cedric Hunter, Greg Dreiling, Eric Chenowith, Steve Woodberry, Archie Marshall, Mike Maddox, Jeff Boschee
@nuleafjhawk said in KU football walk-on Jared Casey never thought he would be in a commercial, getting such attention:
@tis4tim I thought you were going to say " Doormat to Dominant ".
Baby steps! Not ready to crown them world beaters just yet. But, from what I've read, recruits did indeed take notice of the outcome of this game. From a fan standpoint, it was just an all-around entertaining game. Bigger picture, the win may end up being bigger than we imagined. I tend to be skeptical by nature, but good things are happening and we should embrace it. Change is coming!
This is such a great story. Guys like Casey bust their asses just as much as the starters, but get little recognition or fanfare. The fact that he was pressed into action due to injuries during the game is not an easy assignment. To be in your bathrobe and slippers when opportunity knocks and still answer the door is a testament to Casey's hard work and mental preparation. He deserves everything coming his way for being ready when called upon. Not only will this play be remembered forever, but it just might be the flashpoint for this football team's metamorphosis from doormat to decent.
“We’ll handle that internally,” Coach K said after Tuesday’s 92-52 win over Gardner-Webb University. “We’re already handling it.”"
In other news, I heard that the NCAA just kicked a Cleveland State basketball player off the team. The NCAA says that the removal of the player was harsh, but they hope Duke has learned its lesson.
So happy for these guys. Nice to see the exuberance and all the smiles. Big win.
Holy Shit!
@rockchalkjayhawk said in OBJ — yay or nay to Chiefs:
Well, there ya go. OBJ to Chiefs was just clickbait.
Rams? didn’t see that coming.
I never wanted him anyway. Just an unproductive headcase. 😏
Don’t look now but Baltimore lost last night. With a win against the Raiders and some help from the Vikings vs. Chargers this week suddenly things aren’t as dire as they were two weeks ago. I think this is the week Mahomes puts it all together and we go on a run. He’s just too talented to be this pedestrian.
Josh Gordon was suspended six times and we took a flyer on him. Granted for much less money than OBJ would command. Still, need a strong second receiver to take the pressure off Mahomes, Hill and Kelce and OBJ would fit the bill. Plus, Reid has a reputation for letting personalities flow within the organization while keeping them in check. Not the biggest OBJ fan, but if we get him I'd welcome the opportunity.
@AsadZ said in Oh look out , my boys have hit their stride , getting healthy:
Soler won World series MVP, very happy for him.
That out-of-the-park home run he mashed in Game 6 was insane. Very deserving of the MVP. That said, the Braves also scored big with their other late-season acquisitions. It all clicked at the right time.
Houston reminded me of the Chiefs so far this year. You just kind of waited and waited for them to turn it on, and aside from a few bursts here or there it just never happened.

He has community service and crazy the raider player happened about the same time. What 160 mph? Close? Can’t even comprehend that! that should help w/lesson
You’d think that Ruggs’ situation would be a glaring warning for all potential DUI violators, but from what I gather Ruggs himself lost a good friend to a drunk driver years ago. I guess some people never learn. How anyone survived an impact at that outrageous speed is a miracle.
@rockchalkwyo said in Jalen:
What is Mark Fews consequence?
Per source:
$1,000 fine, perform 24 hours of community service, complete a required drug and alcohol class, and use an ignition interlock device on his car for the next year.
In addition, Few will miss the remaining first three contests of the season: two exhibition games and the season opener against Dixie State.
@Texas-Hawk-10 said in Welcome Coach to P-5 football:
The little things you’re talking about don’t happen overnight. Leipold and staff did not have a spring to install their system and way of doing things. Fall practice is when that installation happened and it’s obvious this team and staff are still learning. Knowing formations, QB’s going through progressions, receivers learning the route trees, these are things that can vary from coach to coach and it takes time to learn these things and get quality reps.
The only thing you said that shouldn’t be a problem is ball security. The fumbles that have happened, particularly against ISU were careless and preventable. Most of the other stuff you mentioned comes down to a lack of experience within the new systems in place and there will be growing pains this year. Progression this year will be those types of errors happening with less frequency by November.
I concur.
I had another instructor who always said "be brilliant in the basics". Without a lock on the fundamentals it's really difficult to advance in just about anything.
But, I'm also interested in the "other stuff". How much time are they putting in to studying the playbook outside of practice? Are they hitting the weight room and conditioning like they should? Are they getting enough rest? Are they eating right? I know they are college kids and should enjoy their time at that age, but if one wants to be a premier D-1 athlete, every individual must ask himself if he is willing to put in the time and the sweat and the sacrifice to get better. One has to be mentally tough as well as physically tough to play this game. I just don't know where this team is on either front.
Appreciate your insights.
@Texas-Hawk-10 said in Welcome Coach to P-5 football:
Bill Snyder didn’t turn KSU around in one year and he didn’t build with elite recruits. Snyder only had one winning season in his first four years and didn’t make a bowl game until year 5. KSU was 1-10 in Snyder’s first season with their lone win over a then FCS level North Texas. Snyder also had the benefit of an extra non-confernce game and didn’t have to schedule a major conference opponent like P5’s do now.
As of now KU only has 3 non conference games to schedule, 1 of which has to be against a P5 team. Maybe KU gets the 4th non-confernce game back when the league goes back to 12 teams and can schedule a couple of crappy G5 teams along with the FCS team to try and get at least 3 wins a year, but that’s not a given considering Coastal was transitioning to FBS football when those games were scheduled.
Even at Buffalo, it wasn’t until year 3 that Leipold started really getting that program going. Leipold’s system works, but it’s not an overnight process and ISU is by far the best overall team KU has played this season so far. KU has more beat downs coming their way this season. This team only has a handful of guys that would be on the two deep at any other B12 program so the talent isn’t there and Leipold won’t magically make it appear.
Next season is going to be really rough as well for Kansas, but 2023 is likely to be when we start seeing results changing on the field and KU looking consistently more competitive against B12 teams.
I think we're in agreement.
I'm not expecting to go bowling overnight but I'm at least hoping for "clean" games from our guys - minimizing penalties, ball protection, being in the right positions, etc. No, we don't have the talent right now at all critical positions, but an old coach of mine used to say it doesn't take any special skill to hustle.
Do those things and recruit well over the next couple of seasons and I have to believe it will eventually reflect in the win column. Even then, I think most of us would be happy with mediocrity. Going .500 on a steady basis with an 8 to 9-win season on occasion would get Leipold a statue around these parts.
@Crimsonorblue22 said in Welcome Coach to P-5 football:
@tis4tim it was painful!
I guess changing a culture is not always a linear process. There will be bumps, but I at least thought the days of getting waxed in the first half were over.
Reading the recaps, it appears we decided to play like the Chiefs recent games, turning the ball over multiple times. Unlike the Chiefs, we didn’t do anything on offense to mitigate it. Still, we need to be mistake-free to have any chance.
I agree with other posters who say we have to be flawless with the fundamentals and slow the number of possessions down to be successful right now. Unfortunately that plan requires a serviceable offensive line to allow for a competent run game. We just aren’t there yet.
I’m high on Leipold and staff and think they’re the right guys at the right time but I don’t at all envy the task in front of them. But if Snyder could get kids to Manhattan, surely we can get quality kids to Lawrence.
@Crimsonorblue22 said in Welcome Coach to P-5 football:
I hope @tis4tim is not watching
I make one ~~little~~ long ~~slightly critical~~ scathing post about the team and now I’m typecast as a hater? Ugh!
Mercifully I didn’t get to watch today. When I tuned in to the radio to check the score and it was 35-0 just before half I’m sort of glad I didn’t.
Sorry, all. Deleted my last couple of posts. Been a rough few days and was doing some venting. Not bailing on the team or the program. Been on board for a long time through all the lows and I dang sure want to be there when we return to glory.
Mom always said if you can't say something nice don't say it at all. She is right.

@tis4tim gasp! I’m a night
Believe me, I would much rather be a night owl than an early bird. Having kids changed all that. Lucky if I don’t fall asleep on the couch before 9:30. Wasn’t all that long ago I didn’t even leave the house to go out until 11pm.
@justanotherfan said in In other news...:
I just think looking east is a better bet than expanding to the west, where the conference gets more spread out without adding a lot more viewers.
I think you also lose the viewers you've got. I know I can't stay up beyond 10pm to watch a live KU sporting event ... even basketball. (insert audible gasp!) My schedule (and age) just won't allow it.
A win is always nice but I think W/L is a relatively meaningless metric to look at this season.
I’d like to see steady improvement, good decision making and a willingness to compete in all facets. And I’d like to see evidence of the cultural shift that we’re all hoping for by talking the talk and walking the walk.
We may not yet have the talent and “Leipold’s guys” in place but I am high on this coaching staff and their attention to detail and I do think Leipold and Co. is the right staff at the right time for our program. I see only good things coming for KU football.
W!
Yes!
One more stop!
Keep up the pressure. Stay aggressive.
Woo!
Don’t score too quickly.
Huge call. Refs cost us on that 4th down call. This would make up for it nicely.
Dammit, we’re gonna win this.
