Starting to heat up again.
Must be the Chiefs replacement refs.
Jeez. Dunk that crap, Dave.
I remember when Roy Williams would pull the entire starting five if they played like crap. Would love to see that here.

This is one of the best shooting teams in the country. This team isnât pathetic. Theyâre in an unreal slump right now.
I didnât say the team was pathetic. I said the end to the half was pathetic. Big difference. Maybe you werenât addressing me? If not, disregard my comment.
Wow. What a pathetic end to the half. 14 point lead squandered and 20 straight missed FG. Really quite remarkable.
@wissox said in Okay St chat:
Weâre 4th in the country in shooting percentage. Sounds like we can shoot but forgot how.
I was just having some fun with @BShark earlier comment. đ
Oh boy.
Letting them hang around too long. Time for a mini-run to end the half. Canât stay cold forever.

I used to be a frequent poster on this website. It was really fun.
Around mid 2018 some of the politics and race stuff started getting pretty intense, and I ended up in some pretty heated exchanges with other posters. I realized that I was becoming something I didnât want to be and took a step back for a while. Blocked some of the more problematic posters (the right decision for me personally).
I know I post less as a result of that. But it isnât just that. I also have had a lot of things in my life change (many of them positive, but some negative) that have taken my time away from this board. I wouldnât change that now.
I used to never miss a KU basketball game. Now I miss two or three a season easily. I havenât watched every game since probably the 2017-18 season. Life just kind of evolved along the way.
Was the politics stuff messy? Yeah. Did it take me away from the board? For a time, yes. But the bigger thing is that my life changed over that span of time just as much, maybe even more. I miss enough games these days that my analysis isnât very in depth anymore. I used to know all the recruits, all the players, all the matchups. Now I barely know anyone that isnât on KUâs team, and donât even know every guy on the team that well. I used to know each guys high school highlights and could compare them easily. Now I see guys once they get into games at KU. Itâs just different now, but I am getting some more time freed up and will probably be on here more, though you wonât see me posting about politics anytime soon.
In sum: we got old! :)
@justanotherfan said in Bryce Thompson & Okie St:
This KU team is just better when they go small, even though that goes against Selfâs general philosophy.
I respect your basketball knowledge @justanotherfan and I'm not trying to challenge your assertions, but to your point Bill needs to adapt his philosophy to today's game. The game has changed and we have to change with it.
I have no quantitative evidence to back it up and @BShark will most likely tell me I'm full of it, which is fine b/c he's in the trenches and I'm not, but my opinion is that the stale Hi/Lo offense Bill insists on running has contributed to our recruiting doldrums in recent years.
As a side note, throw KJ in the pool and let him sink or swim. What good is stashing him in the "toughening box" only to risk a needless transfer because he wants more playing time? Yes, you should earn playing time, and not just be handed the keys to the kingdom, but at some point you've got to let the horses develop in real game situations and see what you have. Bill's a fantastic coach, but his stubbornness over the years is definitely an irritant.
Niang out for season with torn patellar tendon.
So, if a reduction in schollys is in the works just get an NIL deal that is lucrative enough to pay the tuition for a kid instead of a forced transfer. Iâm sure someone can get creative and find a work-around to any potential penalty. Isnât that what schools have been doing all along anyway?
Someone get Frito-Lay on the phone. How about M&M/Mars? They've both got deep pockets. Remember the Newtek guys? They left for Austin many years back, but started here in Topeka originally. Maybe they have a sweet spot for their old stomping grounds?

It is a good question. Since we want Jalen to succeed and help the team the how long part is as long as it takes.
Thanks for the reply @BeddieKU23. I guess the deal for me is that he's been unable to get his mojo back so far even in low leverage situations against lesser talent. We all know the road to a conference title is going to be very difficult this season and do we really want to risk a "W" short term for some long-term benefit that may or may not arrive?
Aside from the Remy/Self battle of wills, the Jalen storyline is becoming an intriguing "problem" to watch. I only hope Jalen figures it out quick to make moot the question of whether or not to play him.
Serious question about Jalen: how long do you give a guy to come around? At what point do you risk his being a liability at a critical point in a crucial game just to "get him going"?
I heard one of the announcers on the Mizzou broadcast suggest that some guys are just better when they start. For me, a guy with Jalen's talent, or anyone at this level for that matter, should be able to produce no matter the role or the circumstances. I hope Bill continues to bring him off the bench until he shows us something and doesn't reward him with a starter's role just because he "should" be playing better or because he's supposedly better when he starts. Don't mean to pile on Jalen, but something is going on with him. You don't just forget how to put the ball in the hoop when you have D-1 talent ... do you?
Glad I'm not a coach.

The kittens scoring 94 points against us?? I want what youâre drinking tonight!
Ha ha. yeah. I was trying to make a commentary about the 150-95 bludgeoning of Kentucky from the Roy vs. Pitino years in '89. If we did even just one better and Missouri did one worse it would be lovely.
Honestly, at the kind of game pace where we're putting up 150+ it's not out of the realm of possibility for even Misery to score 90, with that many possessions.
How about I amend my wishlist to a 151-65 spanking? Heck, while we're in a pie-in-the-sky mode, how about a Grinnell-like 187 - 59 spectacle? :)
Honestly, I would love to see a 151-94 beatdown.

That ref was later quoted as saying that JoJo was so close to the line that if he wore black sneakers instead of white ones, he (the ref) wouldâve called the shot good.
Listened to the call on the radio as a kid. My first whiff of disappointment as a KU fan.
Thanks for the insight, @nwhawkfan. As I mentioned above, that was a few years before my time. I only know the result, the photo and the controversy surrounding the call. One of these days I'll have to listen or watch an old broadcast to see it with my own eyes.
Kind of amazing how different sports history could have been had instant replay and all today's camera angles been available "back in the day". I'd sure like to see more angles of the "Immaculate Reception" by Franco Harris b/c I still don't exactly know how he ended up with the football. And doubtful the Royals win the '85 World Series if that Denkinger call is reviewed.
@justanotherfan said in University of Texas El Paso Miners - Tuesday - 7pm - ESPN+:
The referee trailing the play is in perfect position to see the call. If he made the call, he was positioned well enough to get it right.
Funny you should mention the ref. That's one of the things that stood out to me in the photo above. He is in great position, yes, but looking at his eyes they seem to be staring straight ahead and not at JoJo's feet.
The game was before my time and I can't really say much about it, but just one KU fan's opinion.
Great tributes to a great man. No matter your political stance or status we all end up equal in the end. If only we could all see more eye to eye during.
Godspeed, sir.
Nice. If we continue to improve and we get some good pieces coming in and the current crop of young guys takes a leap forward in development, I like us to double our win total from this past year. I'm preparing with all my might to go bowling in 2023!

@tis4tim Sometimes I think we forget to compete. Like weâre just going through the motions, doing things that would work in practice, but we forget to actually play.
Thatâs what I see too. Itâs early and weâre a work in progress and every team is different. Yet, lack of a killer instinct seems to be a universal theme with Self. 2008 might be an exception.
@BeddieKU23 said in Iona Game Thread:
Iona was lifeless and then we put in subs and stopped playing hard
I realize itâs hard to keep the intensity for 40 minutes and thereâs a natural tendency to let up when you get a substantial lead.
I just donât know Billâs psyche enough to know if he just doesnât like embarrassing other coaches or if he likes in-game psy-ops with his own players to build toughness or if we just canât turn it on again once we turn it off. Any way you look at it costs us a fee games every year and often at the most inopportune time.
Selfâs teams seem to lack a killer instinct. Not sure why. When we got up 20 should have totally put the foot on the throat and snuffed out any hope.
See you all tomorrow on the hoops board!
Iâm encouraged by these last few games for sure. Canât wait to see what kind of talent this staff can bring in. And we beat Texas!
Stranger things have happened. Letâs get this.

As frustrated as everyone is right now, remember that these guys are college kids and no one is perfect.
I hear what you're saying, but we didn't have to be perfect. 9-21 from FT and 4-19 from 3-point line is not going to win you many games.
