So will we get a 10-minute expose on ESPN about our season like Duke did yesterday?
And our secret weapon: Clint Normore!
Yes but that OU team was stacked and played Billy ball. We shot 83% or something stupid in the first half and still only had 50.
50 in a half is a lot. I didnāt think they would get that close.
Had it all along! And I promise never to call the game at half ever again.
Ball game.
66 is the magic number
Need one point.
Sink both and itās ours
That was me. I stand by my statement.
First team to 66 wins.
Keep feeding Ochai.
OK. OU has had their fun. Time to put this away.
D will tighten up again and weāll get our run. OU has cut into the lead but it takes a lot of energy to come all the way back.
17...
20 more points and this game is ours. Can we go back to 5 out now?
No way OU gets 50 this half with the way weāre playing defense. I donāt like to be over-confident but Iām calling this game for the good guys. You all can blame me if we lose.
Even a 50 point half only gets OU 65 points. Honestly we only need to score about 25 in the second half to win this game.
Just triple mask them and get them out on that court. I kid. I kid.

The media is ripping KU because KU didnāt immediately fire Miles once the investigation became public because the stuff heās accused of is one of the hot button social issues the media is all over right now.
Knowing the fickle media, if KU had fired Miles on the spot they would have ripped this institution for that as well.
I agree with you there needs to be a discovery period for this stuff. Many future dominoes are set to fall based on the circumstances here. It is best to perform due diligence. Yet, time is of the essence as well. Squaring those two things is never easy. Still, these ratings bonanza show trials in the news and on social media need to stop.
If this case was supposedly settled and a non-disclosure was signed, how did any of this get leaked? Are those parties culpable too? It's times like this I wish I had a more robust knowledge of tort law and law in general so I could better anticipate the fallout.
Still not sure why the media is picking a fight with KU at the moment. Seems like we are the proverbial victim in this scenario. I guess LSU is college football royalty so the powers that be will mercilessly cudgel the court jester. God help us if this drags out indefinitely as the basketball situation seems to be doing. What a mess.
Also, somewhere David Beatty is kicking back with a cheshire grin.
Another reasoned reply to my knee-jerk, naive fanās subterfuge. I guess Iāve just had it with this miserable football team. I would be happy with a terrible team. What we have suffered over the past decade is undefinable, inexplicable and indefensible.
My question is: does KU have legal remedy against LSU? If they covered this up and these incidences could not be found during the vetting process and it ends up costing us recruits, fans, money and wins can all that be quantified into a lawsuit? Clearly we are going to be hurt through another organizationās negligence. Do we have recourse here?
A rational response to my reflexive take to be sure. I still think we'd be better off cleaning house and starting over, but those pesky details ...
I agree it's discouraging. We have now, somehow, scraped below the bottom of the barrel with our football team. On the bright side, so what if there is a mass exodus? We won exactly ZERO games last year. ZERO! In the past decade we have won 18 games. IN TEN YEARS. That's an average of less than 2 wins per year for the past 10. So, really, who gives rat's behind about any of this? Scrap it all and start from the beginning. It honestly cannot get worse.
The fact that this program cannot recruit kids that look like they've even played the game before is simply unfathomable to me. Replace everybody and I would wager we can find kids who can win more than 1.8 games per year over the next 10.
Oh, I agree on Big Dave. I love the guy, his energy and his work ethic. You could literally feel Doke's shadow hanging over him during the early part of the year. But then you could also see him stepping out from that shadow mid-year and since then he has been a force.
But that Texas game I just felt we should have gone with what was working. Texas definitely stepped up the defensive intensity in the second half and they may have won anyway, but I can't help but think we should have continued with the combo that built the 14-point lead.
@Kcmatt7 It appears Shaka's new 'do has given him a Samson-esque quality against us!
Thanks for the props. I agree there are guys like Mason and Graham who stand out as development savants. In a rambling, round-about way what I was ultimately trying to drive home is that we don't have the mix of McDonald's All-Americans and "projects" that we usually do, so this year might really shine a spotlight on Self's ability to coach out the strengths of his players.
His stubbornness and lack of in-game adjustments at times gets under my skin, but you can't argue with the sustained level of success the man has had at the college level. Admittedly, he has come out of his comfort zone in fits and spurts in the past couple of seasons, so there is development on his part too. I would love to see more wholesale changes on certain things and the Texas game was an example where we should have stayed with what was working instead of reverting to what Bill is comfortable with.
I don't post as often as most here and I certainly don't generally start topics because most of you are vastly more knowledgeable about the game of basketball than I.
But, I was thinking this morning about the possibility of sanctions against KU basketball and how that has certainly had an effect on recruiting. Yet, it occurred to me that in a weird way having a few "down" years by KU standards might actually be a blessing in the long run. Now, before you inundate me with the "what are you smoking" replies just hear me out.
This year we have what, by all accounts, amounts to a group of fringe guys, with no true superstars, that Bill Self has been able to mold the way he sees fit. He has taken a non-vintage team and has whipped them into a near 20-win team in one of the toughest conferences in the country, and has them firmly in the running for a #3 or, dare I say #2 seed in the tourney.
Meanwhile, we see Duke and Kentucky, with their hyped up recruiting classes barely keeping their heads above the .500 mark in Duke's case and a win percentage of 35% in Kentucky's case.
So, it stands to reason that if Bill Self can take this group of guys and get them to perform reasonably to standards then he is showing the world that he can, in fact, develop talent. Development, it seems, is one thing I've heard recruits discuss in regards to coaches and the programs they lead - that they want to go to the NBA and Coach "X" is the guy who can do that. Doesn't this year and our recent "down" years drive that point home to any potential recruit?
On the other hand, if Coach K and Coach Squid get their usual crops of 5* talent and don't even sniff the tourney, what does that say about their ability to actually develop talent? To me it shows they have been a product of their recruiting and not their coaching. The fact is, if you start with top talent it's hard to gauge whether or not there has been improvement during a player's tenure. Coach Self is showing he can take "inferior" talent and still get them to the promised land and challenge for conference titles amidst a pandemic, no less.
So, my argument here is that the threat of sanctions has actually shown potential recruits that Self can and will develop their talents if they come to KU - as long as they are willing to put in the work.
Understood. But clearly Dave is not getting it done and the ball is sticking. Had great movement in the first half.
Would someone explain why we donāt go with the same 5 that built a big lead in the first half?

Ochai- 26-67
Besides Ochai, nobody can shoot, consistently
David McCormack: 1-1 = 100%; Clearly he needs to shoot more threes.

Iām SOO SOO SOOOOOOOO happy we told Cox to suck it. They are the worst company in the history of the universe.
Comcast would like to have a word ...
I really enjoyed this game. Not sure if this was already said earlier, but over the years I've seen too many times more-talented KU teams get bullied into playing the opponent's style and pace. This was the first game in a while I really felt we were the aggressors and we were dictating tempo. It was totally fun to watch us have our way with a very good WVU team. They never seemed to find a rhythm or any kind of cohesive offensive scheme.
Yes, we were down at the half, but I never felt like we weren't going to win this game. And if you had told me before the game we would be up by 20+ on WVU in the waning minutes I would have said you were crazy. But there it was. And if it weren't for Mr. Game-Of-His-Life hitting a ridiculous 6 threes in the first half, we may have flirted with a 30-point bulge in the second half.
This goes back to conversations lately about the make-up of this team. They may not be the highest ranked guys we've ever had, but they all seem to play with a purpose and they are all individually looking to do something positive on the court when they are in the game whether it be scoring, blocks, steals, making the extra pass or some other hustle play. Things can change, of course, but I can't say enough about how much I'm enjoying watching these guys. To think it will only get better as the season progresses hits me right in the feels.
This is a great thread. I think most of us want fine, upstanding young men that we can be proud of first and great basketball players second. This team seems to have both and I really feel great about our prospects. However things turn out this appears to be a team we can all rally around come hell or high water. I could really use a season where the high drama is ON the court, not off. That said, I wouldn't mind a few low-drama, blowout games as well!
I really wanted to read that someone āclapped backā or that the Jayhawks ābroke the internetā.
Just kidding. Well done.

No worries, @jayballer67 . I wasn't sure if your comment was in response to mine, so I may have jumped the gun there. All good. I agree Garrett has earned Bill's trust. But, there's no denying there may be some situational moments in games where having him in may not be the best option. I think that's where the advanced metrics help - putting guys in the best positions based on the situation.
BTW, perhaps I missed the update, but I think you mentioned your wife was getting a test of some sort a few weeks back and you were going to have to wait for the results. Hope everything turned out okay.
@jayballer67 said in Emperor Of Basketball Game Thread:
Itās crazy how people still wanna keep bagging on Garretts playing
I'm certainly not bagging on Garrett. Bill loves defense and Garrett will get run on that alone. And we know Bill is stubborn with his hi/low thing and McCormack will get his. But, I think is was @BShark who posted the other day about how good the team was down the stretch with Garrett on the bench. Not reading tea leaves from that, but was an interesting observation and bears watching. There are only so many minutes to go around and if one guy earns more PT, someone will lose some accordingly. Was just speculating on who that would be based on some of the stats and comments I've read on this board.
At some level modern basketball requires paying attention to advanced metrics and if trends are spotted it would be foolishness not to make adjustments based on the evidence.
Oh, man. Love this kid already. He seems to have "it". Can't wait to see him in crimson & blue! Thanks, @BShark !
@BeddieKU23 said in Emperor Of Basketball Game Thread:
Heās struggled for sure and the lack of consistent minutes hasnāt helped him. He needs that one game where he plays well so he gets more PT and maybe some good will with Self. If he locked in defensively thatās his way to getting time.
This was in reference to Enaruna. My question is: let's say he gets out of the doghouse and earns more PT. Who loses minutes? McCormack? Garrett?
I guess I'll take the (um, what' the opposite of Debbie Downer? - Polly Positive?) view on this team. They may not all click at the same time, our interior offense may be lacking and there is some questionable decision-making, but so far it seems like someone steps up and makes a play when it is needed. Look at Braun from last night: horrible shooting, but had 10 rebounds, I think, and threw the ball off McClung, I believe, to save a crucial possession. Look at Wilson's block at the end of the game, or TGF's critical rejection a few games ago. Just seems like someone steps up when the situation calls for it. You can win a lot of games just by making a play somewhere, somehow.
I dunno - I'm don't have a coaches critical eye like many of you all do, but I really like the guys and the mojo on this team, something I haven't said the past couple of years, and they will only get better as the year progresses.

Lubbockians/Lubbockers/Lubbocksters/Lubbockwegians must have a tough life living out there in the middle of nowhere.
Lubbock sucks! One of the worst days of my college life was spent in that God-forsaken town and I never set foot near that place again.
Made a road trip, once upon a time, to cheer on my football team against the Red Raiders. Not only did we get obliterated, but I ripped my new shirt on the chain link fence that surrounds the stadium. After the game, I returned to my car only to realize I had locked my keys in it. Because of game traffic, it was about 4 or 5 hours before anyone would come out to assist. After finally getting that settled sometime toward sundown, I stopped at the nearby convenience mart to fill up with gas. Turns out the RV that filled up before me didn't pay and drove off. I only found out they hadn't paid when I went in to settle my bill and was accused of stealing gas. Said I owed them almost $200 for my tank and the other tank I had already pumped. After some convincing, I was finally was able to get them to back off the accusation, pay for my stuff and head back home.
Just a miserable time from start to finish. Will never go back.
