Romeo . a different look/ A different take • Apr 18, 2018 04:14 AM

I guarantee you if we sign Langford, the haters are gonna demand investigations, haha. On the other hand, Lil Miller doesn't fall far from the tree. IU is DESPERATE for Langford and will likely do anything to get him. Yet, not one person will think or doubt Lil Miller's tactics. They are legit too, haha, right...

Dakich will shit a brick if we get Langford.

Maybe the FBI should investigate Taco Bell and Hoopsters for recruiting violations. This is undue influence and I think Taco Bell is worse than Adidas. Hoopsters may be influencing Langford with 1 yr supply of free lunches and dinners.

I'm kidding of course...

FBI • Apr 18, 2018 04:04 AM

All eyes are focused on KU and DeSousa? All the recruiting experts are pissed they predicted him to Maryland and he chose KU?

Yet...Zion Williamson was predicted by the SAME recruiting experts to South Carolina, and yet he commits to Puke? Not one "expert," or investigator finds that ODD?

Zion can choose Puke and it's perfectly understandable, and DeSousa picks KU and the they investigate the Adidas shoe whore. They bring KU into question? Yet Coach K and Puke remain UNTOUCHABLE. Does anyone else see the bias? And yet the bball world is calling the "KU victim" claim bullshit? WOW...I can't wait to see how far these investigations go into other programs and how many other programs are "CAUGHT" from their shoe whores influencing recruits. I'm sick of this shit and KU getting crucified as a villain. These same haters better be concerned about their own favorite programs because they are next.

What is "knowing"? • Apr 17, 2018 02:34 AM

Of all the top bball programs in the country, and they want to try KU? I expect many more programs to be named. This is just the beginning. My guess is all the other programs have had chances to cover the bases with their "shoe whores." This reminds me of Shawshank when Red said everyone in prison was innocent. Andy said he had to go to prison to become a crook. This pretty much sums up bball.

Romeo . a different look/ A different take • Apr 17, 2018 02:19 AM

@jayballer73

I read how the Taco Bell was trying to recruit Langford to IU. They justified it as fanatic bball. It sounds like a desperate move to recruit Langford to Taco Bell rather than IU. I don't think a fast food chain has ever recruited a top recruit in any sport...It is a first.

FBI • Apr 11, 2018 07:12 PM

What happened to Zona? Nothing from the NCAA. This is more about the shoe companies, not the players. NCAA will not touch schools or players.

FBI • Apr 11, 2018 07:07 PM

@BShark

Hell yeah, Silvio plays. This is pure bull crap. Its a damn conspiracy. Its ridiculous. I havent heard as much as a peep from the NCAA on these other issues. The NCAA says these are merely FBI investigations and they wont act.

Langford • Apr 11, 2018 12:09 AM

I find the timing of this trash interesting. Why did they wait this close to Langford's announcement? Nice timing of someone trying to influence recruitment. I find it ironic. Adidas is suppose to influence recruits toward KU. But this article actually discourages him from KU. Haha...funny...I hope Langford and his dad sees through this shat.

Moore • Apr 08, 2018 09:43 PM

@justanotherfan

Dunking is different than a layup. An athletic blocker will pin your layup almost 100% of the time. A fast break dunk is not a layup. A fast break dunk or flush is much more efficient and almost impossible to block.

What of Lightfoot and Cunliffe? • Apr 08, 2018 09:38 PM

Cunliffe can stay if he wants. He could play some back-up, mop, whatever. He might play more his junior or senior year. Meeotch is great for our bigs and he is good to bring in for 2-5 mins to give the bigs a quick breather. But he will be needed to run plays.

Moore • Apr 08, 2018 07:01 PM

I was just thinking about an interesting player comparison. I realized the interesting styles between...

Keith Langford

Travis Releford

Wayne Selden

Ochai Agbagi

Pretty interesting when you watch the four. I don't think OA hasn't quite developed the outside shot that Selden and KL had, but their very interesting. I think Selden and Ochai have more power and strength. Releford and KL are similar. Just an interesting observation.

Although after watching the OA clip, he does have a nice stroke. Actually, the kid has some hops...dang...wonder what his vertical is?

Moore • Apr 08, 2018 06:54 PM

@Ralster

NO...Moore seems score first, pass second. Unless he has learned with DG to pass then score. He better if he expects to thrive at pg and in Self's system. Dotson seems to be pass then score.

It's gonna be FUN watching all the same.

@truehawk93

Here is the thing. You are correct on the proper form of a layup, HOWEVER.....

Once you play at an elite level you MUST learn to go off the wrong foot and mix up your timing or you will always get your shot blocked. These kids are playing against the best at a younger age so they are learning this also at a younger age.
Also going off the "improper" leg makes it easier to jump into your defender and create contact and go shoulder to chest on a shot blocker.

If you only make layups with the "proper" legs you will be easier to guard.

BUT...if the defender is on my right side and I'm right handed? I use my right hand from the left side of defender, jumping off my right foot? Doesn't that allow the defender to defend the ball better?

Whereas, if I use my LEFT hand, RIGHT leg/foot...ball away from the defender, who is on my right side/weak side, then use my body...I have a much better chance of an AND 1? IF I use your logic and jump right foot/leg, and use my right hand...the defender on my right side will eat the ball, not my body.

Same principle with Right hand, Left foot/leg when the defender is on my Left side...

Unless of course you're being facetious?

Moore • Apr 08, 2018 04:22 PM

One request for all these ELITE players...would someone please teach these kids to use the right hands and legs on a layup. This is one of the most glaring deficiencies of many of these top players. I learned and it was tough for the longest time, because it's not dominate or natural. But it's the right thing.

Use the Left hand, and right foot for a LEFT hand lay-up.

Use the Right hand, and Left foot for a Right hand lay-up.

I know...it's tough and awkward, but much like a switch hitter or a South paw to use the Right hand...I remember learning as a RH pitcher, to turn toward 1st base for a 2nd base pick. It was AWKWARD, but once I learned and not step off with my right foot, and turn toward the runner or bag, my pick off ratio improved, and it looked better watching by my coaches. Remember Rocky? But when they learn and it becomes part of their game, it looks better watching, and it adds to their game. Again, if it's not broke, don't fix it...but just sayin.'

Most definitely...QG is a 6-4,5 pg. He's a humble Kobe Bryant caliber player....shhhh...don't tell him that, but something tells me he can handle the comparison.

Moore • Apr 08, 2018 04:08 PM

Ochai reminds me of KLangford. I still think, no disrespect to OA at all, but a redshirt would allow him to adjust and come in his second season as maybe one of the most dominate players in bball. I think a redshirt would make him even better and more hungry. We just don't quite need him. I just don't see him sniffing the court if we get RLangford. Again, NOTHING against OA at ALL. Either way he'll be good, but let's face it, most of these recruits are playing against average to slightly below average competition accept on the AAU circuit.

Notice in the dunk drill at the line? He has to take a power dribble. To me, this is a bad habit that many college players create and it carries over into games. He has to grab, pivot, two step, and jam. The ball will be slapped out of his hand or poked everytime in the lane if he tries that in at the D1 level. I get it, it's a drill, but it creates mental habits that will likely translate into games. He's good, and will be a great player at the next level. I'd like to see him consider a RS, no real reason, KU will be stacked if we land Langford.

See the inbound play to OA? Much like a Self play...haha

Love the kid in the KU sweatshirt too.

Moore • Apr 08, 2018 04:00 PM

DMac is a freakin' man-child...CRAP, he's gonna be a beast. If we keep Doke for 1 more yr, we will have the most dominate inside presence of CBB.

The one thing that jumps out to me is his short game. He's not bad 6-7 feet from the rim. He's got a nice touch away from the rim.

Moore • Apr 08, 2018 03:43 PM

I might add from my earlier post that Garrett isn't too bad either. I think he will make a huge improvement into next year. Garrett handled the ball and his first year should provide some momentum for next season. Look for Garrett to become a taller and maybe more versatile Aaron Miles in the upcoming season. Garrett is such a quiet, fundamental, and steady contributor for this team.

Also, a correction to my earlier post. I realized he transferred from Cal not USC...

I also went back to review his time at Cal. He's a little like DG.

Moore • Apr 08, 2018 03:52 AM

Moore came with some hype from USC(?). I thought many had Moore pegged as the next pg after DG. It seems most on this board simply sees him as a solid backup pg to Dotson. We shall see exactly how quickly Dotson picks up the most important role in a fairly complex offense. I could see Moore buying Dotson some time to learn Self's system. We all know Self will baptize Dotson with fire during the pre-season. Dotson seems to fit Self's pg mold and Moore will simply be ready to supplement Dotson.

I will be curious to see where Dotson is as a pg when the first conference game rolls around. But, Self will rely on Grimes and Langford(?) to take some of the ball handling from Dotson. Let's hope Dotson comes in and learns immediately, and becomes a key piece to the offense. We will also see much more inside play too with our 4 and 5 too than last year. Doke saw a lot, but not nearly enough. The 4 is going to be another key to the offense. I hope Silvio and KandDLawson will be a huge threat at the 4. Our 4 was a non-factor or even present. This last year it was 1,2,3, and 5. We had 5 players but we had no 4 presence at all.

I hope Self redshirts Ochai Agbaji. Garrett will be too important for leadership. He is a much more athletic version of Releford. Hopefully we pick up Langford. Langford and Grimes will provide firepower. Garrett should work on his shots this off season and become a bigger threat. At least I hope he will make teams respect him more. Dotson should hold his own and distribute. I hope Vick tests the waters and then jumps.

Michigan Actually Plays D • Apr 03, 2018 04:42 AM

I actually forgot about the game. I don't care and figured Nova would win. I heard the CBS analyst gushing on Nova being a blueblood, which this blueblood thing is out of hand. I don't think NCs define bluebloods, which Nova has two(?) in the last few years, and they have a few more to get before they reach "blueblood" status. I think the difference in a great basketball program and a "blueblood" is something we hear all the time.

A great program rebuilds and it might take them 2-3 years to smell another NC, like Nova. A blueblood is a program that simply reloads and they smell a NC every year. Doesn't necessary mean they'll win, but they simply do not rebuild for 2-3 years, they reload with equal or better talent year in and out.

Doke • Apr 03, 2018 04:30 AM

Doke has become more like Landen in many ways. He gives you some big tangibles in the paint. We all know his FTs need work, but this off season will provide FT time. His footwork in the paint and around the rim is so improved. He's not flashy or a short range shooter, but he provided big minutes and rebounds that we otherwise lost games.

Big Dave is going to have a learning curve just like Doke. I see him being foul prone. I do see DLaw and Silvio becoming pick and pop 4s. Doke and Dave can work the paint. Doke needed a lot of rest in many games, but we just didn't have the bigs and Big Dave will be an added relief. Meeotch is that glue that has carried the big man torch from LL, and is now passing it on to Doke and Big Dave. I like Meeotch sticking around as the big man glue and I credit him for coaching up Doke and Silvio. Our front court will finally have much needed depth and we won't have to rely on our back court to guard bigs. We were fortunate against Puke and it ran out against Nova. I see DLaw and Silvio matching much better with the Spellmans and the Paschalls. I see DLaw and Silvio being match-up nightmares.

I agree. I think Cunliffe is in the same boat as the big NAIA kid. Cunliffe, like CJ Henry (Southern Nazarene U, OKC), could go to an NAIA and be a phenom. Or he could sit the pine and get mop mins with KU, wasting paper.

BTW, Doke is an Academic All-Conference rather than All-American.

Actually, i believe it leaves 14 players for the 13 spots. Did you count Lawson twice? As we stand now, at least one underclassmen must depart to have enough scholarships. If we want room for Langford, we need two to leave.

I still think RL picks KU. I was reading Big Dave's interview about RL. DMack said, "I don't know why he doesn't just pick KU..." Dotson, Grimes, McCormack, and RL will definitely want to take the team to the promised land. I don't know if I want to lose anyone. I really don't care what Vick does either way. I am more concerned about Newman. My ideal desire would be for Vick to leave, keep Newman, and to gain RL. I'm just not sure what Vick and Newman will do at this point. I definitely think they will be at the NBA combines. I want Langford one way or another. I'm just not sure at this point.

Garrett

Doke? I have a funny feeling he's back. He is an academic AA. He's not mentioned in any mock drafts either.

DeSousa

Moore

Lawsonx2

Meeotch

Dotson

Grimes

DMack

Obajai

Newman

Vick

Svi

DG

Cunliffe - transfer, like Whitman? He could go to a D2 school and tear it up.

Langford? If Cunliffe transfers, we could keep both Newman and Vick if they wanted to make another run.

Who am I missing? By this count, it makes 15 with Cunliffe, Vick, or Newman gone. If I chose between Vick and Cunliffe, I think Vick is better for chemistry. But, Langford will be looking at playing time. If Vick and Newman stay, Langford will go Vandy. So losing Cunliffe would not help with Langford. We may keep all and miss on Langford. If we want Langford, we will need Vick to declare. I would like Newman to stay.

If they play at this level or higher, it's not going to be a game at all. Nova could have an average game and still win by a fair margin at this point. I was afraid of this possibility. Another team beat three B12 teams to the NC game...WVU, TT, and KU...wow...WOW. They beat our top three teams in the conference and the conference champion, conference tourney champion...WOW. Here's my response to these who have declared...

Nick Collison • Mar 31, 2018 02:59 AM

I went to the Nuggets and Thunder game tonight in OKC with my son. I was watching Collison working on various shots and moves. He left the court toward the Thunder tunnel and grabbed a sharpie from security to sign autographs.

Of course I made my way just a few rows from our seat. Thunder fans crowded along the rail to get his attention, waiting with various items for him to sign.

I found a small opening and caught his attention by saying, "Rock Chalk Nick!" He smiled and responded back, "Rock Chalk!" I asked, "Are they going to do it again this year?" To which he replied, "I think they can..." I thanked him and went back to my seat. As I walked away, many Thunder fans began calling out, "Rock Chalk Nick...Rock Chalk...!" They weren't a truehawk. As I walked away to my seat, I turned and watched him wrap up
his session by giving high fives entering further into the tunnel.

What a great night, and hopefully it's a great sign for tomorrow. It's weird to see Nick Collison and Carmelo Anthony playing on the same team. I'll try to post some pics of Collison going through his pre-game shooting exercise.

I explained the significance of that experience. My son said, "Dad, I'm going to take this program, autograph, tickets, and put them on the bulletin board in my room." I was truly proud that my son got to have that experience with me on this night. Incidentally, he is crazy about Frank Mason and DG.
