@HawkChamp True story, but an ivy leaguer (I think?) Whitman and Coleby don't exactly make me salivate over how great we'd be if they were playing.
Started at 8:30 so you've still got time to watch the bulk of the game.
He may be a great coach, but he sure let his roster deteriorate to the point that we've got a real situation on our hands now! I'm still perplexed why we have a team with one competent big. I know, Billy was supposed to be playing, but even having two bigs isn't enough.
@dylans Yes, please do tell.
@jayballer54 you wrote
"he is not very highly reguarded in the Coaching ranks at all"
I think that's where @JayHawkFanToo got it that you didn't think he was a good coach. My eyebrows were raised too when you wrote that. Maybe you meant he's not very highly regarded as a person, which we all would agree, but he can flat out coach.

@JayHawkFanToo It looked like they had a fire lit under them when they ran up the 15-2 lead. Didn't it? I was impressed with their hustle and fire for a couple of minutes.....then they just let up.
Sometimes a hot start is the worst thing for a team. Makes them complacent. Of course a cold start, like the Washington game causes doubt and leads to what happened there, so I'm confused now!
Keep this up and we'll be a 16 seed, but then win the first game ever for a 16 seed.
@nuleafjhawk Ouch! We should pass this on to the AD!
@KUSTEVE Yeah, woe is me!! I've been blessed to be a fan of two teams that have both made the last 15 tournaments, one which has made the last 30 or whatever except for the ban after winning it all. I've had it tough!
Wisconsin and KU down in the same year. But I don't think KU is that down. They'll still go dancing. Badgers...prolly not.
@Crimsonorblue22 Just being snarky!
@BShark Like Frank for example?
We've shot 17 FT's the last two games total.
We took 38 3's today. Remember when we all wanted to free the 3?
Our defense has been MIA.
Take away a 15-2 start and it's our biggest beat down today since......??
Not sure Cheick, I mean Preston will help even if he does come back. Remember how excited we were when Diallo finally was able to play?
I don't think DeSousa's going to play for us this year.
Newmann is driving me crazy. Running right by a three point shooter who acted like he was shooting, but didn't until Malik was in the third row.
Then during our 'comeback' he throws a ball over Grahams head in the corner who makes a valient effort to save it to the guy Svi is standing by and Svi, hard to tell what happened, but on TV it looked like Svi stood there and ASU took the ball off running for an easy bucket.
Hopefully Cunliffe (did he wish today he'd stayed at ASU?) will provide a third option after Graham and Vick.
Malik may need to come off the bench.
Poor Doke. 4 guards throw it to him and he's left by himself to battle all the bigs on the other team.
Now I know why Self doesn't want to play WSU.
We'd have a two game losing streak against them.
@justanotherfan And that UCONN team beat an 8 seed Kentucky in the final. They were the team that knocked off Wichita and also broke my heart with a near buzzer beater against the Badgers in the final 4.
@jayballer54 Arizona lost three games during turkey week in 3 days. Unless they're updating rankings daily, they're not, it's pretty logical that they went from 2nd to unranked without stops at say 8th, 16th, before being unranked.
And while we're at it, let's get Missouri back on the schedule! Then we'd have two non-con games to look forward to.
@JayHawkFanToo Thanks for the info on attendance at AFH. Interesting to read. Those years coincide with my HS and college years in Chicago. I was a college hoops fanatic then, but KU wasn't on my radar at all. But I did know about Wichita St. When I arrived at KU I learned about KU basketball. It wasn't relevant at all nationally during the later 70's and early 80's. I arrived at the right time! Haven't missed the dance once except the Larry Brown penalty year.
@REHawk You nailed something that I enjoy about this. You said once you got the HR monitor device you started to push yourself because you felt like you'd not done enough. I experience that too. The amazing part is when I run, feel poor starting out, think I'll never make it more than maybe two miles but I just push on to 3 or 4. Not sure where I get that strength to persevere but it happens.
I do have a good role model. My brother finished third in the world in the crossfit games two years in a row and qualified 4 years straight now. He's an amazing machine who just has a motor for it. He's a bricklayer and then stops at the gym on the way home. Here's his leaderboard from 2016. https://games.crossfit.com/legacy-leaderboard?competition=6&year=2016 ↗
I'm nowhere close to that level. One competitor he beat out in 2015 played NFL football, so Dave is quite the workout animal. Anyways, thanks for the advise!
@REHawk @dylans Thanks. I have been treated for coronary artery disease, take a stress test every two years although last summer I did a 'biathlon' of a 5K and 1/2 mile swim and my cardiologist said, ehh, don't think you need a stress test after doing that! One of my struggles is losing weight. I'm surprised that the running doesn't knock off the pounds. I'm not a heavy eater either. Miniscule lunch and breakfast, and decent dinner is my normal routine, but I still haven't lost much. Thankfully my joints appear to be able to take the pounding, but I hope I didn't just jinx myself!
I guess we have a bunch of armchair athletes here.
@Crimsonorblue22 I'm too dumb to know any better. I really seem to do my best runs after dinner.
I started up last January in earnest. Have never been a regular runner, in fact did very little until last January. I built up to a long run of 7 miles. I ran three or four 10K's, unofficially.
I'm not running for time but since I'm a competitive type I like to keep track of how long my runs are. Most of the time I'm between 10 and 11 minute miles. I'm 53 by the way. Wondering how to get consistent because I'll head out every once in a while and can feel right away I don't have it and the app I run with keeps calling me a slowpoke.
Usually I run after dinner. Come home from work beat, relax, eat dinner and head out. I seem to do better running in the evening than in the morning for some reason.
Any advise would be appreciated. I'd love to get down under 10 minute miles which I've done several times, topping out at a 4 mile run averaging 9:27, but I have no idea how I did that because I've been nowhere near that otherwise.
I also wouldn't mind working up to a half marathon, but that might be unattainable!
@HawkChamp So stats sometimes can help us. Vick did make 12 baskets, all of which were in the lane. He took 4 shots outside of the lane, 19 inside, so 12 of 19 in the lane. About 63%.
Here's the link with the shot charts. http://gamezone.stats.com/gz/basketball/cbk/1943705 ↗
You can search other games as well, and the interesting thing to me, including looking at the Syracuse game is the in the lane 10-15 footer is a pretty rare shot in college basketball.
HawkChamp said:
@wissox I could do that in middle school so no it can't be that hard. If that's too hard, then there is a problem with player development. I just have a hard time with that one.
Believe me I'm no expert. But in middle school you were weaker I presume. For me, shooting that requires strength, ie from distance takes more strength. A ten footer for a junior higher takes some strength, but for an adult it is hard to shoot because it requires a lot of touch and for whatever reason it's not a comfortable shooting distance for people. I don't know why except for my feeble explanation, but it just is.
Sure, these guys should be comfortable shooting from any distance, but if you look at shot charts of most 'normal' games, you're not going to see a whole bunch of 8-10 footers.
I kind of argued this after Syracuse. People were criticizing Vick for not shooting from the high post even though it was there all night. I posited, based on my own vast playing experience (stifle laughter) that catching a ball with your back to the basket from that distance and turning and shooting a comfortable shot is not easy. Vick proved me right last night, kind of at least. I wish he'd read my post the other day. Maybe we'd have won.
I don't know, but this test for Desousa looks like we're not going to see him til next year. And even if he comes, he's never even practiced with the team, he going to be able to help?
Just read this quote: Hopkins admitted to ESPN that he called up his friends on the Syracuse coaching staff for tips after the Orange lost to the Jayhawks on Saturday.
“I talked to their staff, that’s my extended family,” Hopkins told ESPN. “It was a great way to learn in terms of how we had to attack offensively and how we had to defend them.”
Washington doesn't deserve good sports teams. You live in all of that natural beauty, you've got plenty of diversions from bad teams.

What's going on here? All I know is I didn't do anything. Lol.
You would have if you had seen it!!
Just a family squabble is all.

@wissox And don't come at me in any kind of threating matter telling me to STOP - you got me messed up for someone else there buddy
I really thought the admins shut it down not you.
@dylans that's why I apologized

What and where?
In general discussion about the Balls. It's my fault as I was pushing it a little bit. But I didn't get the satisfaction of seeing the rest of it. Apologies @jayballer54 if I offended.
Stop deleting our posts! We were having a lively discussion. Not sure what was said after my last comment, but goodness, let's discuss!
@jayballer54 How plainly can i say it? YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT'S BEST FOR LIANGELO. Maybe his father doesn't either, but I think he loves his kids no matter and knows better than you what's best for his kid at this point.
For the rest of you, I'm just trying to get you from jumping all over a situation that you're not informed enough on to give a sound opinion.
And I'll say it again, I'm no supporter of Lavar. I wish he'd step back from the limelight too, but that's not his way. He's at least partially responsible for raising one kid already who after one year of college is making insane types of money. That's great! He has at least one successful kid!
But if LilAngelo is making 7 or 8 figures 5 years from now in the league you'll come on here and take back what you said, right? Unless we know this family up close and personally we don't know if he's made the right decision or not. Time will tell. Sure, there's some red flags with this man, but I'm sure my parenting failures aren't put on blast by the shark feeding media. I can't believe I'm defending Lavar either, but we just don't know what's right in this case because we're not there.
Well maybe, and believe me, I'm no Ball fan, unless you're talking about Lucile, but maybe he's being a dad to his kid who got himself in a pickle that was a minor international incident. That's what I'm hoping is true in this case.
@Fightsongwriter Oh I'm glad you left Howard off your list. He was the Brett Musberger of his day, to me at least. Story always seemed to be about himself.
JayHawkFanToo said:
it was his hooting
I think we were complaining about the announcers hooting, not Malik's!
"
@nuleafjhawk It ticks me off because he left off Al Mcguire. In his announcing prime he was a great one!
@kjayhawks I'll let you have credit! I do remember on the day he signed writing that nickname for him, but maybe you said it first!
@Texas-Hawk-10 I like that team.
jaybate 1.0 said:
Ah, yes, UDUNKA; that’s the best one.
I'll take credit for that one! You can look it up!
To see the referenced carry that wasn't called you'll have to watch the 16:34 mark of the 2nd half. I got the screen shot, but couldn't get it on here. As soon as the ball handler stopped his dribble Doke backed off but he kept dribbling. These moves drive me nuts because the offensive player gains such an edge on defenders. These need to be a point of emphasis for referees.
@Crimsonorblue22 Yeah, I just watched that. Interestingly as I wound towards that I caught DG's great block followed by an easy fast break layup and Dick Vitale sang his praises for the layup instead of showboating. Camera must not have caught what he did after the three because it was not really a showboating.
I would think the Bowl Games cash cow is a major reason why there isn't a 16 team playoff just like D2 and D3.

Clemson and OU are the consensus top 2 teams, some analysts/sports writers have Clemson as #1 and some have OU. Georgia seems to be the consensus #3 and then we have Alabama and Ohio State battling for the last spot which I believe should go to Alabama but it might go to Ohio State so the Big 10 is represented.
I understand a bit of what you said about Alabama, but let a team win their conference if they want to be national champs. I know that's not the way our beloved NCAA basketball works, but for a 4 team playoff, then yes, win the league for goodness sakes. I don't necessarily like a 2 loss OSU getting in if they do either, but they did win a major conference.
@approxinfinity Good question. We'd be right up there, but when you look at the yearly revolving door at our two nemesises, nemesi? we would have some trouble there methinks.

@wissox Dickie said he ought to play bb instead of celebrating!! Haha!! He's not his mom
He said that about DG? Wow, that's unbelievable. Do you remember the moment he said that?
EBay usually has good deals on bigs. We should check there.
Alley oops ought to be a stat. We had a bunch.
