Alley Oops, Dg, Malik and Refs • Dec 03, 2017 02:25 PM

I'm just curious since I'd turned off the sound. Did DV sing DG's praises during his phenomenal run? Did he gush? Did he notice? He usually does with players performing like that.

Alley Oops, Dg, Malik and Refs • Dec 03, 2017 02:24 PM

I don't know, I'm not no expert (or grammar expert!) but that 10 footer is an awkward shot in my experience which is limited to pick up ball.

Alley Oops, Dg, Malik and Refs • Dec 03, 2017 05:15 AM

@Crimsonorblue22 Then you think he was told not to shoot? Could be.

Alley Oops, Dg, Malik and Refs • Dec 03, 2017 04:36 AM

But Vick caught most of those passes with his back to the basket. Their length would close quickly on him. Looks like it should be an easy shot but I think you want to shoot in rhythm and I don't think he had rhythm there.

Alley Oops, Dg, Malik and Refs • Dec 03, 2017 03:34 AM

@HawkChamp Except about 5 of those turned into assists back to DG for 3's!

Alley Oops, Dg, Malik and Refs • Dec 03, 2017 03:31 AM

Holy cow I knew Vick played well, but he was in triple double territory! 20, 8 and 7. What a game!

Alley Oops, Dg, Malik and Refs • Dec 03, 2017 02:39 AM

I turned off Dicky V, he was really annoying me early. Doke goes out with his 2nd foul and he doesn't even mention it. Then he starts talking about DG having subpar games this year, like averaging 10 dimes a game isn't important.

So after I turned off Dicky, then I started to enjoy the game more.

And then DG started to act like he heard Dicky V talk smack on his game. He showed Syracuse he could throw the alley.

And then we discovered Clay Young after our bigs were officiated out of the first half. He held his own.

And DG started making threes, he started Mcnamaring Syracuse. Ball game. One of the more electrifying performances by a KU player in recent years.

Except the refs tried to keep them in it by not calling fouls on Syracuse. They called their 3rd foul on Syracuse in the 2nd half with 3:30 left on the clock. They called the 4th foul on us with 3:30 off the clock. Syracuse made a little run aided by a dude carrying the ball so bad I took a picture of it. (if I can get it off my phone onto here I will!) He got an +1 out of it to cut the lead. Contact was being made by them every trip down the floor without a whistle being blown. Unbelievable what they'll do to try to keep an east coast privileged team in the game.

Malik, not sure what to think about him. Had lots of hope, but it's just not there. His shot is ugly and it doesn't go in. He did contribute 5 boards and 5 dimes.

Finally another satisfying win since the long weeks of subpar opponents since the Kentucky game.

@Lulufulu No I missed that! Kelly's been playing pretty well. Looks like he's got a decent future. Prolly not an all star, but a solid bench player, maybe a starting role someday.

Gambling Junkies - Daily picks • Dec 01, 2017 01:35 AM

I've never gambled, never will. Was proud of myself during my only visit to Vegas to not have played one dime in a machine. I was sitting at the airport to leave, there's machines practically right at the gate, tempting, but stuck to my principals. As long as you're not spending your next mortgage payment on it I have no problem with it.

I guess fantasy baseball was the closest I've come and that game was just for the honor of winning, but it bugged me to be cheering for a player who might be pitching against the Sox that night because if he wins I get points! I still fantasy golf which sounds like the total nerd activity, but it's just fun.

The laughable statement • Dec 01, 2017 01:23 AM

There's a lot of KU arrogance here too. Fans of every team have their arrogance. Just kind of cracked me up that you got offended by Kentucky fans calling our players scrubs. So we don't get another locked thread, that's my last word!

The laughable statement • Nov 30, 2017 11:23 PM

If you like trolling other peoples boards whatever. We talk a lot of smack on other teams too.

Entertaining games tonight. • Nov 30, 2017 01:09 AM

Big 10 is getting wiped out in the challenge this year.

I can't think of any other games than the last two times we played Syracuse we lost. Got to break that streak. I can stomach losing to Duke because they're a relatively scandal free program. Losing to Cuse and Kentucky is the worst. I think it's even worse losing to Cuse than yUK. Kentucky is a blueblood. The fareaking east coast media treats cuse like they're a blueblood. They made a penn st style scandal disappear. Syracuse is in a lovely part of the country. Finger Lakes, Great Lakes, snowbelt, great autumns, spectacular summers. The orangeboys don't deserve to be in such a nice place. They need to be in Camden or East St. Louis, or Compton, no offense to the fine people living there. Cuse needs to add an R to their name because that's what I want to do when I watch them play.

I absolutely loathed watching the NCAA engineer their run to the final four 3 or 4 years ago. They played Marquette in the Elite 8 and the zebras whistled the orange for 5 fouls in the first 35 minutes of that game. You can look it up! Talk about giving a team a free pass.

They mugged our team in 96 in the elite 8. They got to shoot 28 FT's while we shot 13, lost by 3. Thanks refs. An elite KU team loaded with future pros officiated out of the tourney. Of course it doesn't help that we made 4 of 25 3's in that debacle, but still.

I just loathe them. What kind of name is the orangemen? It's not orange country, too dang cold, it's orchards and vineyard country where they make wine, which is appropriate because Coach B has that whiney little face.

I was glad when Keith Smart made that shot in 87 because then B would be the 2nd greatest coach to ever live behind K, so he's saddled with 1 championship. What kind of crap is that? He's coached for like 50 years and has the pick of NYC talent and has won the thing once, and only because we didn't know how to shoot a FT?

Cuse is a Curse really and I put a curse on them oranges. We are going to win by about 25 and whiney face will cry for his momma.

I do an SB nation site for Badger football games and this one guy literally 4 times this year has written during the game a message basically saying 'that's it, we've lost this game'. I always point out that he'll miss the comeback to victory. During the Michigan game 5 different posters doomed our team because we were losing by a field goal in the 2nd quarter. We have our own Jayhawk fans who are similar in their pessimism.

@mayjay

Oh those posters annoy me too!

No... just give our entire team a participation ribbon. That's good enough!

LOL

Some facebook commenters on the Jayhawks say similar things. Annoying to say the least. Like after a disgusting loss to Northern Iowa or Bucknell they'll write "that's ok, we still love our Jayhawks" "We know we're the best team ever, they just got lucky" Yes we do get over our tough losses, but I really get irked reading comment after comment like those!

Rkck Chlhckski Classic! We need more Polish players I think.

I want national championships. While I enjoy the ride much more than @elpoyo does I do think he's a KU fan. These teams are fun to watch even when they don't win it all.

DeSousa • Nov 28, 2017 10:20 PM

@jayballer54 if true that's good news!

@JayHawkFanToo I always thought the geographical location of Toledo made it kind of look like an armpit and so its' less than sterling reputation meant it was the armpit in two ways.

@mayjay The last time I was in AFH was in 88, but I have seen them play in person several times in recent years which is quite exciting too, even if they lost that championship game to yUK.

@mayjay So did you graduate from KU in 88? That was my senior year.

@mayjay Funny. My daughters attend or attended Wheaton College in Chicago. It is a difficult school to get into and they like to say they are the Christian Harvard or that Harvard is the secular Wheaton!

But yes, Michigan fans who haven't had much to cheer about sure crow a lot about past athletic achievements!

Toledo, we always called it America's armpit as we drove by numerous times on the Ohio Turnpike. Then we moved to Baton Rouge! Friend in HS's mom was classmates with Jamie Farr so he really was from Toledo, not just on the show.

Yeah, I like the baseball rule too. But the NBA is free to make their own rules. They have a wonderful minor league system called college basketball that they need not spend 1 penny on so why wouldn't they try to continue kids going to college?

I think in general college basketball has suffered since so many good players have gone pro early. The quality of play isn't what it used to be. Think of what I call the glory days of college hoops. The late 70's through the late 80's. Legendary teams and players. OAD rules would have robbed us of Magic/Larry, Phi Slamm Jamma (even though they won nothing), the great Georgetown dynasty that should have won more. Does Danny stay in college for four years today? Hard to tell, but probably not. A Dean Smith led UNC with Jordan, Perkins and Worthy all playing at the same time? Never in 2017!

I wouldn't mind seeing something similar come back.

One for the ages. • Nov 26, 2017 02:34 PM

@mayjay It's seriously mystifying why this team hasn't been in the top 4 for a month now. They've never been tested really. I know, the schedule is perceived to be weak, but not once all year have I had a dread like we're going to lose this game. NW had the ball on their own 1 yard line down by a TD with a minute so I guess something could have happened there, but we sacked them for a safety.

Troy st beat LSU which beat Auburn, so I guess Troy St. could make a case for the playoff, except I think they're an FBS school. The SEC still plays FBS schools but the Big10 doesn't and like the Big12 plays 9 league games. I'm sick of the logic that just assumes the SEC is so great. The announcer yesterday on the Badgers game said us UW fans should be cheering for Bama because if Auburn beats Bama then Auburn deserves to get in. Yes, 2 loss team gets in over undefeated champion. Makes perfect sense, go Bama!

OSU gets the same treatment. They're favorites for this Saturday, which is fine with me for the Badgers to keep that chip on their shoulder. (For the record, Badgers always seem to crap their pants against OSU and I'm nervous for this one)

And someone made this comment: If an undefeated major conference champion doesn't make it in then fans of the PAC12, Big12, and any other league that's not the SEC or ACC have a lot to worry about because it could happen to their league someday too.

Meanwhile Minnesota's other team made 8 first downs all day against the vaunted but still underrated Badger team.

Looking for someone's summary. Might as well give it to me here. Stats looked good again. Doke has missed 11 shots all year. Amazing start by that young man.

Mangino for coach! He wasn't the classiest of people either, but to do what he did here was one of the most underrated coaching jobs of all time.

@BShark At least 35 pts. People thought Southern could be close, too. I think the team is getting into a groove we have seldom seen.

To be fair, SDSU played a horrific first half, nowhere near their normal numbers. Part of that was us I'm sure but still something to keep in mind as they did miss some good looks.

I think he was referring to Texas Southern.

Holiday Hoops • Nov 23, 2017 06:15 AM

Wichoka St Horribly played down the stretch jacking up poor shot after poor shot. I thought it was interesting to see Mike Brey wearing shorts on the ND sideline!

Kendrick Nunn was a big time recruit from Simeon HS in Chicago. He won four state championships, but was overshadowed at least a little by teammate Jabari Parker. He ended up at Illinois, averaged 15 a game his junior year and then was dismissed from the team after an arrest for battery. I'd imagine his playing career isn't over after this season, he'll play somewhere probably overseas.

@mayjay You're kidding, Hollywood would make up a fake scene for a movie?

Buy NEVER CALL ME A HERO by Dusty Kleiss • Nov 23, 2017 02:35 AM

My favorite WW2 book, Flags of our Fathers which was written by the son of one of the flag raisers at Iwo Jima. The town we lived in for about 10 years in Wisconsin was their home so there was a lot of local pride.

My favorite WW2 movie was "To End All Wars", a true to life telling of the Bridge Over the River Kwai story. Really amazing story. The Great Escape is a close 2nd.

But I may have to check out your recommendation. I remember as a kid watching Midway. Don't remember too much about it except one scene of an American plane flying straight into the bridge of some Japanese ship. Riveting action.

I am curious to know what really went on behind closed doors.

I always want to know what runners and fielders are talking about in baseball. And what players and refs talk about all the time in our favorite sport.

I was reffing a thrilling junior hi basketball game once and while waiting for a substitution I looked at the girls jersey standing next to me which said "Horace Mann" (the name of her school) and I asked her who Horace Mann was. She looked at me like 'how am I supposed to know' and I gave her the ball to start play. Sometimes those convo's aren't all that exciting!

This comment I saw on facebook says it all:

"It's crazy. For 20+ years we were transferred all over the US and we never missed a game via DirecTv. When I retired and we moved back home - TO LAWRENCE - suddenly I have to miss several games a year due to Zenger selling out the fans to a local cable company. Pretty nuts! At least 38 is showing them now, so we should be good for this year at least."

To sum up a man has watched every game living in other places for the last 20 years, then moves to Lawrence and has to miss games.

FIRE ZENGER NOW. For this and for the sorry state of the football team.

Billy • Nov 22, 2017 04:54 AM

Does this mean he doesn't get alumni of the year?

@wissox sorry everyone alluding to this being discussed. Busyness has meant I've missed a lot of discussion. I heard @Jesse-Newell mention it on a podcast the other day. I really have no idea if this kid could actually help. But when i see Doke playing at the end of a blowout like tonight I'm open to a lot of outside the box ideas to get the aircraft carrier some help.

Larry Brown, for you youngsters, 'hired' a football player named Clint Normore who gave us some good minutes in 1988. He was a guard, but was crucial in that championship game. Might not have won without him.

His name is James Sosinski. He's a tight end on the football team. He's 6'7" 260 lbs, and played JUCO ball averaging about 20 points a game. If/when the Preston thing falls apart, he should be added to the team.

Here's an article about him from a while back. https://arizonapreps.com/james-sosinski-a-two-sport-star-performer/ ↗

@jayballer54 Iowa lost to Louisiana Lafayette yesterday. Not a good turkey week for the hawkeyes. My disdain for them is almost as serious as it is for the state just south of Iowa.
