True
@dylans My thought is Andy will ride it out with Mahomes but he is already 66 so who knows. That is a reset I am NOT looking forward to at all.
This is a must win game

Allen .729 (590-212) 24 conference championships 3 final fours 3 Nattys (1 NCAA, 2 Helms)
Owens - 19 years .657 (135-44) 6 conference championships 2 final fours 0 Nattys
Brown - 5 years .754 (135-44) 1 conference championship 2 final fours 1 Natty
Williams - 15 years .805 9 conference championships 4 final fours 0 Nattys
Self - 21 years .804 (588-143) 17 conference championships 4 final fours 2 Nattys
36 years of winning at over 80% we are lucky!
An almost impossibly good streak. The next hire is critical, but I'm not sure who the first realistic call should even be. Doesn't seem like a lot of rising stars are out there.
Need belt to ass today. Would love to see Rylan and Kease play well too.
@wissox This is something I think about. In general Goff has made good hires but if we make a bad hire after Bill the program could end up like Indiana, UCLA or worse...
Cliff was absolutely the better player. Unfortunate situation with his mom that stopped him from staying another year. I think he would have been a total stud for us year two.

Bringing up Remy, though...we should hang his picture at the top of this message board on this topic. Do we all have amnesia? Bill Self hated Remy Martin. He refused to play him. That was the case in the exhibition games. Bill Self was forced to play Remy Martin and it resulted in a championship. That wasn't Bill Self knowing which buttons to press, he had no choice. The guy he was playing 30 mpg at point guard couldn't score and we needed a spark. Remy carried us through that win over Providence, and there's a case to be made that Remy was actually the MVP of the national championship.
Remy played 26.5 mpg in the non-con, then he got banged up in the last non-con game against Nevada. Bill was playing him plenty. While he continued to play for a bit after the knee thing, he wasn't the same player after that until he healed up some more.
Cliff Alexander played more minutes than Landen Lucas, for reference. 492 to 485. This was despite missing some time. He played 17.6 mpg when available.

@approxinfinity He's literally said that they don't recruit for fit, they just recruit the most talented player. That is astonishing.
I believe he has said this several times over the years. I do think that needs to change.
For starters, we probably don't have as much money as people think relative to other programs.
Second, I thought some people were leaving, but here they are.
I'm intrigued to see what happens going forward this year and how things change without KJ. Then next year we are looking at a completely different core.
Obviously I don't think this year is a title caliber team. That's disappointing sure.
Bill is a really good recruiter, it's going to be a fafo moment once he actually does retire.
I also like how all this is being said when KU has a ranked team, #7 on KP. I can only imagine the discourse when the next coach has us unranked/on the tournament bubble. Oh boy.
@BShark I don't want to say "good" in response to that because I don't wish injury upon anybody. But the silver lining to Clemmence not being healthy is that we are basically forced to play 4 around 1.
Yeah with essentially only two bigs it will have to be 4 out around Hunt to start with Flory in when Hunt rests.
Rylan and Kease at the 4 time.
Separated shoulder. Out at least KSU and TCU games. Will be interesting to see how the team looks without him.
Imagine thinking you actually know what is going through Bill's mind. The narcissism required for that is enormous.
Hard to see Zach being on the roster next year if I'm being honest

I really don’t think this loss changes a lot with it being to a top 5 team on the road. I wouldn’t even be remotely worried if we had taken care of business against Fizzou and WV. We can still win this conference but it just got a lot tougher IMO. I think 3 losses wins it but the way we play on the road I’m not banking on us winning another away from Allen.
It’s concerning that guys like KJ, Hunt, Storr and Coit seem to have zero bounce to start games. Our starters are all experienced seniors but they don’t play with any poise. I don’t think Juan was terrible in the game tonight but a few freshmen level turnovers and 1/6 from the line for a 5th year senior guard is flat out unacceptable. Which in turn made it a terrible night. Hunt was super soft tonight which we all knew was a terrible match up with how ISU plays. Hopefully we take our frustration on the Mildcats Saturday like we did UCF.
Edit: I’ll continue to blow my horn at KJ playing too much. Both of our big runs had him on the bench.
It really doesn't. It didn't change much with computer rankings at all.

gonna have a big turnover again this year.- - AJ will be gone - - -Rylan won't come back --- -Coit will be gone -- Moore will be gone- - - KJ gone - -Hunter is gone - -sorry but the way he plays against athletic bigs or overall athletes not just %'s he is worthless proof is in the pudding, So really won't miss him that much --Rather watch the development of Flory - good rim defender, and eager to see his offensive side develop, more athletic than Hunter
Rylan and Coit should be back as of today
Need the 5th year thing passed, get Zeke back to play with DP. But regardless, we could have a fun group, lots to play out yet though.
LOL. Goooodbye. Hope you stick to it, might be good for your mentals to not watch.

I’m still in the tweaks not overhaul mode. A couple minutes here, a couple there and all the sudden things look a lot better. As much as I hate to say it because I adore KJ, but if he’s out for a bit we might see some guys step up.
Game was closer than the final score for sure. It was tight with 6 minutes left and got away. I hope we are done with AJ after this showing and the Diggy minutes baffle me.
Game got away from KU late, definitely some give up vibes.
Not an ideal stretch here
Mud ball as expected. Gotta cut out the turnovers.
Now that it has enough possessions together to qualify, K. Adams / H. Dickinson / D. Harris / Z. Mayo / S. Moore is our BEST 5 man group so far. Swapping in Rylan for Shak is just behind that one.
@Jhawk69 It would be a big contrast to how they normally play. I'm mostly hoping that foul trouble doesn't lead to more Diggy minutes than normal. Feel like both teams will come out juiced.
@Jhawk69 said in Looking forward to Hilton:
Still, we have to play a near perfect game to win this one. All their guards will be automatic from 3 if we leave them evem a little open.
That's just not true though? They shoot it 1% better than KU and just lost, by far, their best shooter. They also rate 253rd in threes attempted per game, KU is 271st for reference. This game will be won or lost inside and we need to not commit fouls (their guards are quite good at drawing them).
This basically puts ISU at 7 deep and their two bench players are 4 ppg types.

Momcilovic is likely OUT tonight and for another 5+ weeks with an injury.
Oh that's a big one. He's not a great matchup for us at all.
Big time floor spacer. Indications are he broke some finger(s) in his non-shooting hand.
Momcilovic is likely OUT tonight and for another 5+ weeks with an injury.
If KU somehow wins going away I'll be bouncing off the walls. If it's played closely (5 points either way-ish) I'll feel about the same as I do now that this is a good team. If Iowa State wins in a blowout that would be fairly concerning.
I really like our defense.

This team is good. Just doesn't look like how some people would want it to. Then again some people are never happy.
@kjayhawks said in Other games 2024-2025:
@FarmerJayhawk @BShark was hoping the Mildcats could at least give them a game. That is one of the worst teams in Manhattan since the early 00s and Woolridge was there.
Brooth had some heinous teams too.
Huge game coming up, Cats fighting to remain above .500 against Houston :rolling_on_the_floor_laughing:
Shak Moore 27 minutes today, only one less than Juan.

@BShark How much does defense cause a team like cincy to miss so many shots at the rim? I mean my screen was really pretty poor quality but there must have been ten plays where through the snow I thought oh crap they're gonna score and then somehow they missed? Looked like a lot of really easy wide open misses to me. I know defensive pressure can get in a kids head but, idk, what's the answer?
They had some that went in and out. The missed dunk was insane but I don't think they had tons of open looks all game. I could be wrong.
Second half for Cincy - .517 ppp
Bill must be BEAMING after these recent defensive showings.
Aziz is a very dirty player btw
Easy cover never a doubt!
What can you even say about this game...
@Zabudda said in WKRP in Cincinnatti:
Cincy has only two opponents score in the 70's one 72 and one 70. If we are prepared to defend like crazy and maybe have a 40 point half it shpuld be good.
They are pretty good defensively for sure. Long and athletic.
@BeddieKU23 said in WKRP in Cincinnatti:
Nati is favored to win
Computers like KU. The spread has been wild in the last 24 hours. For awhile you could get Cincy +2 but I think it has shifted back.
@rockchalkjayhawk said in Arizona St:
Anybody worried about that “flat” first half? Seems common now.
Once again we seemed lifeless. Of course I missed the first 5 min of the game. Thx ESPN!
We actually started the game quite well. Was 6-0.
@Jhawk69 said in Arizona St:
I think we have our rotation figured out. DaJuan, Diggy, Shak, Mayo, Rylan, KJ, Flory, and Hunter. We will roll with those 8 guys most of the season. Maybe even with 7 (Diggy not making the cut) when things get really intense.
AJ didn't make the cut.
Ha. I see we reached the same conclusion.
@Kcmatt7 Yeah I think we have figured out the top 8 (and 7). Last night is actually the exact kind of minutes/rotation i want to see. Outside of Flory fouling out (which clearly lowered how much he played) and Shak/Rylan still easing in a bit. Diggy should be in the 10-12 minute range unless he is NBA jam on fire. Fwiw he started the season 15-30 from three but is 2-15 lately. So he might be streaky but at least he isn't shy to let it rip.
The defense is trending in a good direction lately.
