@Crimsonorblue22 ? I just think we are overhyping our players right now for the most part. Especially Silvio.

Braun behind-the-back pass. Braun looking pretty athletic throwing it down in transition. Braun shooting 3's. Braun praised for being tough by teammate Ochai Agbaji. I like him.
Issac looks and kind of moves like Frank Mason.
Doke with the left. Doke with the mid-range?!?! Let's hope this is a positive sign for Doke with the two made free-throws next season.
SDS looks like the after picture in an Andrea Hudy Fitness Infomercial.
Dotson looks like the best player on the floor.

if he comes?
He's signed now, fwiw.
@rockchalkwyo I'll buy the whole board a beer if Doke even attempts a jump shot in a meaningful situation. :astonished: I'd probably faint.
From what I've read it sounds like Doke didn't exert himself at all. Didn't bang in the paint. Given it's just a camp thing, that makes a lot of sense even not factoring in that he is recovering from injury.

Ochai will be, IMO, the most improved player from last year.
Could be, he looks really good. He did start good last year though, I think Dave could be a candidate as well, even in limited minutes.
Some shooting numbers from camp...
Dot 7-for-13 FG, 4-for-9 3PT, 1-for-1 FT
Och 6-for-9 FG, 2-for-2 FT
Braun 5-for-9 FG, 3 treys made
McBride 3-10 FG
Enaruna 7-13 FG
Garrett 4-for-10 FG, 1-for-6 3PT
I pulled this from articles, if people have others feel free to post.
It's a camp scrimmage. Let's see how Braun and McBride look against Duke if they get in the game.
@kjayhawks Winning will solve a lot, open more doors.

The recruiting rankings have us at 41 on rivals, KSU a huge surprise at 32.
I will be much more interested in the rankings for the current class by next spring.
For people without VIP, it sounds like Wur just found out he will in fact be eligible.
@FarmerJayhawk I think either one would tbh. Getting a post player in the program to take a developmental year would be a great use of the last scholarship. If it works out that's less work you have to do in 2020, if not you just move on. Low risk, high reward. Whereas if the last scholarship stays open then we are looking at needing at least one starting level big.

Better than Bilau?

Ok great. Iβm nervous and getting antsy I suppose. Thanks @BShark and @FarmerJayhawk.
Farmer is right though of course, Slater's pick is KU.

I think we'll be okay without him if that's what happens. I like the current roster a lot.
Agree. I think he's coming but he's pretty much Brannen Greene (but not crazy).
A lot more skilled but a way worse shooter than Brannen.
True that Brannen really was a great shooter. Idk about way worse though. The lack of lateral quickness was the main point of comparison for me.
@rockchalkwyo No need for Slater to weigh in on this one.

KU can get Todd IMO. Long way to go though.

Ryan confirmed on Brown on the phog just now. UNC, Texas or Memphis apparently. SWOOSH.

McBride is going to wear #55. Weird choice but ok
Almost never see numbers this high.
This year can be elite defensively. Garrett and Ochai are big reasons why.

@KirkIsMyHinrich he also knows how to speak. Sometimes hard for a freshman, sometimes they have a hard time forever. It's nice!
Jamaal? He's doing better now though
@justanotherfan great analysis
@Marco no way on the Hayward comp
@BeddieKU23 I know KU was in there pretty good and I was hoping he would be a Jayhawk. Still pretty early but obviously something cause that CB train.
Marco said:
@BShark Like I've said for awhile now, Enaruna is bigtime. So is Braun and McBride.
I don't know about that yet. I think all three have a lot to work on before they are potentially real P5 players. Each of them can shoot it though, which is a good start. Enaruna might have an NBA ceiling, other two do not.
@approxinfinity Not the class we wanted, but maybe the class we needed?
"Just being here, getting coached by Coach Self, hearing his voice in practice kind of let me know Iβm actually playing for KU," Braun said. "Just the whole thing in general helped me realize Iβm actually here.β
Back on one of his weekly Hawk Talk shows during the season, the soon-to-be-17th-year KU coach made a strong statement about Braun. "Christian Braun is a winner," Self said.
What did Braun think about that comment?
βTo be called a winner from a guy like Coach Self who is one of the best and biggest winners in college basketball history means a lot, but I would love to be a part of what he does and what this program does because winning at that level is a lot higher level than what Iβve won at,β Braun said. βJust being called that means a lot, but I want to win at the highest level. I think Coach Self can help me do that.β
<3
@BeddieKU23 Money probably. But he has ties to every main contending school on his list except KU. I believe he is from the WVU area originally. Still has family there.
@approxinfinity The funny thing is I was simultaneously thinking that might be a bit too high for Silvio and that people would disagree with me.
@KUSTEVE All anyone needs to know is that Fran was playing his son over Moss in crunch time. The same son that had negative advanced defensive stats and was rockin out with 4ppg. That's some serious nepotism. I'm sure Moss is thrilled to get away from that.
KirkIsMyHinrich said:
I want Agbaji to start. I'm worried about Bill promising starting spots to recruits. I haven't seen Jalen play a game in college basketball yet. Maybe he is better.
Don't think that's an issue here. Guessing the pitch was more "you can come in, compete and likely get minutes". Wilson, no offense, isn't in the perceived must start range to need a promise.
Like everyone else I think Ochai starts. Ochai is a Bill Self type player.
Moss per a Shay tweet has been taking 500 jumpers a day this summer. GRIND SZN.

With guys ranked in this range, I tend to take a wait and see approach. I think Braun and McBride will both translate well to the college game, but I thought we would get more out of Anrio Adams and Brannen Greene than we did, too. McBride could be Frank Mason, or he could be Naadir Tharpe (on the court). It's hard to project guys in that range because the outcomes are so broad. Some guys ranked there end up as All Americans and NBA players. Others wash out without ever making an impact.
Both Braun and McBride seem to be smart, thoughtful, hardworking players. That should help
Yeah I don't expect either to contribute much this year. I think both could be RS candidates, but I'm thinking only one player ends up taking one.
This is just of course my amateur opinion, and I've been really wrong on guys before. Bragg was a big one there, I thought he would be excellent but it never materialized. But anyway...
I really really like McBride but your point awhile back about athleticism vs skill comes heavily into play here. McBride is very skilled, one of his skills (shooting) is even about as elite as you could ever hope for. So then what's the problem? It's very clearly his athleticism. If he were a Marcus or Ochai level athlete we would have been looking at a top 30 player imo. So he has to work on not being a liability on the defensive end. If he can do that and even be around average we are potentially looking at a high impact player his JR/SR year.

17 for Dotson is pretty ambitious. Of course, if he does that, then he is in the Sherron Collins zone.
I am worried that we will see Dotson more likely around 12 or 13, with Moss and Azubuike about the same. At that point, getting to the 77 you envision is a much longer road, and we will be depending on a lot of unproven guys to do it.
I'm not sure we have anyone coming in that even has the history to suggest they could put up 15 plus a game for KU.
That's the one thing that worries me about this team. Not that they will be bad - they won't be bad. But that they will look better on paper than they are in real life because they just won't quite be able to get over the hump. And that doesn't even address what happens if the perimeter shooting falls apart.
Moss fills a big hole on the perimeter, but I still feel like we are a player short.
I understand the concern. Dotson this year was over 12. He might not pop to 17 but I bet he improves at least somewhat.
I fully expect Jalen Wilson at KU but I am not sure he does much to alleviate the concerns you posted here. He's moreso just another depth guy this season.

Here's Bart Torvik's model: http://barttorvik.com/rosters20.php?team=Kansas. β Not sure I buy all of it (Doke, Garrett, Dotson too high, Moss, Silvio much too low) but it's fun to look at.
Garrett at 12.6 is proof that computers can get drunk.
@HighEliteMajor I'm hoping Mitch doesn't play much but deep down I also know Bill Self. We definitely pretty much agree on the total. I'm not sure I see Agbaji getting to 13 but he will be good for sure.
BShark said:
Worth noting that Moss is friends with Dotson's older brother Dalen.
Update: BEST friends per Bedore. Didn't realize it was quite that close.
@justanotherfan Swear I didn't see this post until after making my last one. :joy:
@justanotherfan The hope is that Dot turns really turns the corner shooting and decision making. He was good last year but he can be GREAT. His speed makes him a true game changer.
Something like
Dot: 17
Moss: 11
Agbaji: 9
Silvio: 8
Doke: 14
Bench
Garrett: 7
Dave: 5
Wilson: 6
That gets you to 77 points a game average and the defense should be really good. It won't be exactly like that, but that would be my general outline. Everyone contributes, Dotson and Udoka are your need a bucket guys.
@chriz @stoptheflop Party is in here friends.
