Ya, I could be wrong. He could have been sick or something. I guess what i really should have just said was Dixon also just took him out of his game. Svis defenders played hands high and in the face all night. I was impressed.
Nothing wrong with Svi. They denied the passing lane so they couldn’t get ball reversal action. Svis defender didn’t leave him in the corner and Jamie was switching 5. Dixon had an excellent defensive game plan.
@BShark more than 2 losses and not beating Tech and its lights out for the streak.
honestly, i’m tired of the streak. it seems like it’s a mentally taxing burden.
@JayHawkFanToo haha i went and looked at that too after the win and seeing that UK lost. Keeping the eye on the big picture prize—i like it
Deleted.
i’m not sure—they were called for almost double what Kansas was called.
22-12 foul discrepancy. +7 at the line.
@drgnslayr the adulation might be getting to him and exploding his ego. Jawing with the refs every other time down the court doesn't seem to fly as well in other situations.
@DanR just close your eyes.
@DanR Sorry if I created a new category...didn’t mean to. It can be deleted, or whatever.
@JayHawkFanToo they are just prepping a new golden boy for the empty seat league.
Constant media adulation tends to make me dislike great players (like Tom Brady) but when I block out all that noise he really is fun to watch.
@HighEliteMajor not sure how to take this!!?? Doke would have drawn 5 technicals tonight with that behavior.
ESPN marketing Young hard. Above the team scores it has been keeping Young’s stat line permanently
also WVU is so offensively inept, it is hard to watch.
also Trae Young is a whiner.
also the FT discrepancy in this joke is ridiculous.
also Trae is a baller. but he’s also a whiner.

Reading this currently as well. Very challenging to incorporate some of these practices into this day and ages culture of “busy-ness”.
There have been more people filing out early when down the last couple of years it appears. That is the only thing i’ve noticed and I am in AFH a few games a year.
@Crimsonorblue22 3 more games!!! Jelly!!!
@Hawk8086 better to think of it that way than the OU @ Norman being the deciding factor. That is one that should have never happened.
@kjayhawks nah, OU won't win this Conference. They are going to lose to WVU and then Kansas at home. I'm starting to think the league will come down to being able to beat Tech on the road and hold serve vs OU & WVU at home. If not, Tech will likely win this thing. Just my opinion, of course.
Let down game. I saw this coming. And this is why I called this league (mediocre) average. Top team predictably loses at home to a bottom feeder
@HighEliteMajor Oh, I recall them! Mainly from folks back on KUSPORTS.
@drgnslayr Do you remember at one time the argument was "These are 18-22 year old kids. They don't get tired."
@jaybate-1.0 He has some type of electronic apparatus on his calf muscles and I also noticed something on his left shoulder The other day during post game. For a guy who was regularly coming out last year for cramping, he has sure manned up this year. Or his diet and exercise has improved greatly. Or both. I feel confident in Vick and Newman bringing the ball up, they just don't distribute enough to keep the offense flowing. If Svi and Newman stay aggressive with their downhill play, let's hope Graham can get what he needs from the line and dish 10 dimes a game and the dropping fg% won't be such a big deal.
Nightmared we lost this one last night. Blamed it on an 11 am start time and lethargy. We shall see.
dang. was hoping Texas would help us out.
Sacrificing Graham for number 14. He also appeared to be wearing something on his left shoulder last night during post game. Maybe contributing to his low shooting average. I can’t believe Self hasn’t found a way to get him a few minutes off each half.
Tom Brady's ball boy got a hold of the game balls.
Remember when Svi told coach he would play better if he kept him at 27 mpg.
rest graham. get Silvio plenty of work. get doke to the line as much as much as possible. get vick going. let newman run point. meaningless game. get the boys ready for monday.
With Sam, it is just an observation of his of his current performance. With Doke, it is a belief in what his performance could be, regardless of what the observation tells you. He could easily say "Doke isn't shooting free throws well in games and practice" and still put him in games because he believes in him. Now if he said he doesn't think Sam has what it takes to play at this level: that might be a shot to his confidence.
All of that being said: Self will say whatever he needs to massage his team to where he needs it to be.
He routinely calls his team soft.
He once told Joel Embiid that he didn't have what it took so he should just go back to Africa.
@jaybate-1-0 If you end up getting your hands on a copy of Beyond the Streak by Jason King you will see many discussions regarding the value of Brady Morningstar. Not just from his teammates, and high praise from coach Self, but from those around the league who identified him as one of the toughest defenders in the league. The book also talks about Selby's foot injury and how he never came back from that.
As far as what EJ and Releford could have done as sophomores against VCU, we will never definitively know. We do know for a fact, however, that they were key role players to a run at the NC in 2012 and then blew a 14 point lead in 8 Minutes against a Michigan team a year later as seniors. Experience usually helps, but it doesn't guarantee anything in March.
@HighEliteMajor I interpreted that statement to mean that he and Doke need to get together and smooth out the fact that Self embarrassed him on National TV. Self has made it abundantly clear that he isn't going to try to 'fix' his shot. Maybe motivate him to practice more, but not fix anything.
@dylans All I wanted to do was deliver @HighEliteMajor step-by-step guide to better free throw shooting. Geesh, I thought it would come in handy. afterall, @nuleafjhawk dared me.
I agree he will eventually be drafted at his wish for the NBA. He can definitely play professionally next year somewhere if he wanted to do that. Right now I don't see him on any mock drafts. Vick, Svi, & Graham are the on them, however.
Remember the other day when there were posters who were thanking Squeaky and Scott Drew for Gifting us losses........

Maybe if the name were changed to "Studly Style" shooting this way wouldn't be so taboo.
New challenge to the board rats: New name for the Studly Style Free throw....Most creative wins membership to the Jelly of the Month Club.
I wouldn't believe for a second that coach was motivated to keep Doke around another year by embarrassing him.
Also, he gets paid millions of dollars to win games. If the other coach uses gimmicks, then he must adjust.
I also don't agree that it's a gimmick, it is strategy--playing the percentage for the most favorable outcome.
Do whatever it takes, within the law of the game, to win.
We may have have witnessed the biggest shift in Coach Self than any other time in Kansas. His entire Philosophy has centered on winning the Big 12 title. Everyone knows how close the race will be due to similar talent level among the 10 teams. For him to go into Norman, and not steal one on the road was a very risky move. He said it was about not wanting to take confidence from his big man, and on the surface, I guess that can make some sense. But everything coach has done previously has not aligned with that. Self is a hard-nosed, do it my way, tear you down and build you up coach. Worrying about someones confidence is a new approach as far as I can tell.
i like it.
@chriz no. just thinking how the smallest things in games (and life) can prove to be more meaningful down the road than they appeared at the present time. Might have prevented that big 3 and had another foul on Doke and he could have fouled out of the game before being poked 5 times.
The Hawks lose championship this year by one game, this game will be very bitter to look back upon giving the circumstances and coaches decision.
I am still amazed about the foul discrepancies. Maybe I should “go ask Fran about it.”
@JayHawkFanToo see, if he would have just signed with Kansas he could be getting primo advice from HCBS on a hair piece. He blew it.
Perry Ellis might disagree? :)
Who would agree that Doke should have been called for a foul when he plowed into Young right before TY hit that 25 footer? They seemed to be calling every other touch foul.
At some point, should the refs call it intentional?
Situation dictates who the best player is at that moment. Put your team in the best possible position to win, regardless of how that makes the player feel. You bring in Wade Davis to close the game, not pitch the first 8.
Is it possible Self was trying to light a fire in Udoka to work on these? There is no other explanation...
@DanR you don't play through your issues in the last two minutes of a game with a proven 40% success rate when you have 5 other players who double that.
Free throw comparison: OU shoots 25. Kansas shoots 14, and thats with 6 of them being intentional in the last 4 minutes. Without the hack a doke, it's 25 FTA to 8 FTA. That's just ridiculous.
Graham going one for 1-9 sucked, but what was most frustrating was that he seemed to be playing hero ball at times like he had to prove he was better that TY.
Self said post game that he won't try to change Doke's mechanics midseason and said he thought Doke's misses looked better than his previous games misses.
I sensed that Self wasn't coaching for this Win leaving Doke in there. His post game comments reflected that he may think this could motivate him to improve and come into play down the road.
Either way you look at it, in my opinion, this L is on Self. He said you don't take your best players out of the game. But you also put your best FT players in the game when the team is intentionally fouling. Just flabbergasted at the way he handled those last 4 minutes.
