Roster possibilities • May 30, 2019 02:55 AM

Best guess:
G: Dotson, McBride
G: Walker, Garrett
G: Agbaji, Wilson, Braun (RS)
F: #FreedSilvio, Enaruna, Mitch
F: Doke, McCormack

We might add someone like Hyland but it's not really a thing until KU offers. And that's a FF quality team.

I saw nothing last year to lead me to believe Q was anything other than what we did see. Good luck buddy.

The real larger issue is how we keep recruiting these guys. Guys who, with their families, are solidly deluded. Guys who, With their families, are not good fits for KU for a whole lot of reasons.

Maybe other schools have had the same challenges, but Man! We seem to have a solid list of busts. Brannon, Cliff, Preston, Vick (who was not a classic bust, but... ) who’s the guy who smoked pot all the time? please feel free to fill in more names here

Yikes

Greene and Vick had mental health issues pop up at Kansas. Can't really prevent that.

@FarmerJayhawk Ok that makes a lot of sense. It was more or less my assumption, but always good to clarify.

T mentioned K "w/e it takes to get him in Lawrence" T is running point on Walker, so uh...I think your math checks out there!

Oh yes. Adidas would love to keep Walker in the family. I've heard Todd's recruitment is not exactly above board, being in Raleigh and all. UNC isn't really competing that hard for him. I have a hard time thinking he'll go anywhere that can't make it worth his while.

@FarmerJayhawk If he comes mid year can he still declare for the draft? Or does he have to be a full calendar year out of HS?

He can declare. It's a year removed for your class, so since he would be in the class of 2019, he'd be eligible for the 2020 draft.

My gut is we get one or the other, but not both. Not based on any info since everyone is currently in the dark, but would make sense.

Speaking of Kyree Walker, Jerry Meyer just put in a CB pick for KU.

WHOAAAA - -really? - ok , Ok , Ok - I'm not going to start getting worked up - - -I'm not - - I'm not lol

Yes, be patient on this one. We probably won't know much until July at the earliest. He still has to get all his coursework done. The good news is Hillcrest has a reputation of.. ummmm.... making it happen

ya I know buddy. - -it's just I've liked Kyree for some time but just wasn't sure about him coming here. - -I've looked a little more since you posted - -read a few remarks - comments on him , a lot of which I already knew, Ryan you know who that is said he felt like it would be late but felt fairly confident that we just might land him . I mean again I knew it would be late because he said he really wasn't really even focusing on it right now.

I fully understand but I do appreciate the info. - So let me ask , do you know , have you heard anything on would Kyree be ok as far as academics so he would be able to qualify - is he ok on the academic side? - All I know the kid is a stud.

Someone else posted - -think off the Phog , that Kyree also has that little bit of edge/attitude. - I've said this before - -I like that. - I like someone who is good and KNOWS he is good. - If you got game and you know you got game - - BRING IT bad boy - -get somec as long as he doesn't go over the edge with it - -a little cockiness doesn't hurt anyone get a little tiresome to see some of the player that really don't show a lot of emotion - -somebody with that fire in their gut - -Kyree has that. - let's hope we can work it out. -- ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Yeah, my impression is that if he graduates on time from Hillcrest everything will be fine academically. But it's not a lock he will get it all done by the time he would have to get to KU. I also wouldn't entirely rule out him coming mid-year a la Silvio if he needs to clean up a course or two.

New 2019 Recruiting • May 29, 2019 05:21 PM

Something like that! I can say Oak Hill is pretty rigorous. They don't mess around up there. More like a military academy than basketball factory.

No reason for KU not to make a big push. Kid is super entrenched with Adidas as well.

Zion says HI....Never hurts that he's on the grassroots program probably being influenced to stay with Adidas though

In that case Zion was Nike and then Adidas made a play to try and recruit him for KU. Didn't work out but this is a lot different than Zion's situation.

Walker has been at one of the bigger Adidas AAU teams and been going to an Adidas prep school.

For sure. Even if Dotson and Grimes come back he'll be able to play a lot at the 2 and 3.

New 2019 Recruiting • May 29, 2019 04:03 PM

He's still officially in 2020, so that's all you can pick at this point. I think the expectation is for him to jump to 2019 though.

I would love to have Grimes back assuming he gets the right people in his hear and gets his head on straight. There's no doubt he's incredibly talented, we've all seen it. Just needs to be motivated in the right way.

And the crazy thing about it is Grimes is only 5 months older than Walker.

Latest on Dotson • May 29, 2019 03:53 PM

From Bossi, "FWIW, I was told last night that the possibility of Grimes returning to Lawrence had increased quite a bit in the last 24-48 hours. Not saying he will (though we will know soon enough) but this time yesterday I would have put his chances of return at slim and none with slim out the door."

@kjayhawks Exactly. I would think the reason he'd transfer is to play PG. I've about given up figuring out what those folks want.

NIT

Lol at this. We could run out Free State High and Self would get them to 5th in the league.

G: Garrett

G: Ochai

G: Wilson

F: Silvio

F: Doke

That's a possible Sweet 16 team.

Now do it but w/o Wilson since he is far from a lock. It's definitely worrisome and Doke can't be counted to stay healthy all year. Even if he did I think it's borderline without Dotson. That said, hopefully Dotson announces his return in the next 24 hours. Seeing lots of kids announcing they will be back today.

Sure. I don't think there's much difference. Just replace him with Enaruna. If Self goes NIT starting 4 top 55 recruits then we may have a problem.

So you agree, Enaruna is a bigtime keeper? I don't think that we are getting Wilson.

Oh yes. Honestly might have the highest pro ceiling on the roster as of now. I think we get Wilson.

That would be a weird choice. ASU has Remy Martin, who's a really good PG. Probably a 4 year guy too since he's maaayyybe 5'11.

@FarmerJayhawk Probably but not necessarily. Dana Dotson is quoted in a Star article saying that 92% of the top 22 picks in the second round received guaranteed deals. I did not know that either. That is almost everyone... I guess it comes down to how much you want guaranteed.

For sure. I think the back half of the second round usually only gets a year, which isn't a ton of money comparatively. I think the minimum full season salary is around $800k, and there's a really high probability he'll spend a lot of time in the G League, where the pay is even less if his deal is a two way.

Latest on Dotson • May 28, 2019 07:51 PM

Newell has a good piece up on the Star. Devon is still a second round pick. He'll come back without a guarantee of money.

New 2019 Recruiting • May 28, 2019 07:48 PM

Especially with an absolutely gaping hole at the wing. He wants the ball in his hands as more of a guard (personally I like him more as a 3) but he can do that playing off guard at KU. Dead eye shooter too. 43 and 47 percent the last two years. 80% from the line over his career too.

New 2019 Recruiting • May 28, 2019 07:43 PM

Kyree is a different kind of dude too. He popped for ASU suuuuper early. Like Markese Jacobs early. I don't get the feeling that he wants much of the attention.

So who else is recruiting Walker? Hard to imagine other programs not going after him with both bags available.

Has Walker ever mentioned himself that he is thinking about reclassifying? I just haven't seen anything about it... Really haven't seen much on him at all.

He always plays coy about it but I really think he will. He turns 19 in November so he's eligible for the 2020 draft if he graduates this year.

New 2019 Recruiting • May 28, 2019 07:29 PM

Kyree Walker and Jalen Wilson are the big prizes now. I think Arkansas is no longer an option for Walker assuming he reclassifies. I think he will assuming his academics are in order. They're 3 over the scholarship limit as it stands and just took two wings as grad transfers. I'll see what else I can dig up there. Everyone feels like KU leads for Wilson, and I have no reason to disagree. He and RJ were always independent of each other.

To be eligible for the 2020 draft. Have to be a year removed from High School to get drafted.
