Just spitballing here, but I'm not super impressed with Langford so far. I got killed for saying this, but I never thought he was a great fit on this Kansas team and was probably going to put up Kelly Oubre type numbers but not defend well.
@Texas-Hawk-10 go ahead and fill in Mack Brown to UNC. Presser tomorrow.
The fight for Hampton is going to be a knockdown, drag out war. Duke is probably still the frontrunner but I haven't heard much since he announced he was staying in 20.

Mack Brown coached at UNC before Texas so I'm guessing UNC would be hoping to get a repeat of his first tenure there which was very successful.
That's certainly the idea. Also some donors who ponied up for Fedora's buyout really want Mack to return, with the intention of hiring an all-star staff with a HCIW.
I went to Stanford-UNC a couple weeks ago. Was not impressed with Stanford. Can't imagine KU having much trouble with them. Their guards are really young, but talented. I really like Cormac Ryan.
Thanks for doing this! Easy to see all in one place.

The only reason Seth Littrell wouldn't take the Texas Tech job, where he spent 4 years under Leach, is because he would prefer the North Carolina job, where he spent 2 years as the associate head coach. Littrell is going to have his pick of Lubbock or Chapel Hill. I just don't see Venables taking the Tech job even though that's who their admins want. The one thing in Tech's favor though for Venables is their AD's relationship with Venables going back to their KSU days.
Couldn't agree more. Though it looks more and more likely that Mack Brown of all people is going to UNC. I don't quite get it but I guess if that's what Bubba wants, fine. Rumor is he has to have someone with P5 HC experience, and there aren't that many guys out there fitting that description. Leavitt may be more likely at TTU. Going to be awkward for Hocutt bidding against his alma mater.

Bill Snyder is being forced out and it will be likely be Jim Leavitt being announced in the next week or two.
I’ve heard Hocutt at Tech May try to land Leavitt himself.
I think Vrenables is the guy to watch a Tech.
Seth Littrell is Tech's if they want him. That's the P5 job Littrell wants.
That would be the smart move. Not sure if Hocutt will go that route. Is he different enough than Kliff?
RJ Hampton will be in Lawrence for the Nova game.

Kahlil Whitney still hasn't signed with UK. Will sign in the spring.
@FarmerJayhawk You hearing anything on this?
Don’t think there’s much to it. Probably just keeping his options open in case Cal bolts to the NBA or something weird happens.

Rivals reports that Les has already been burning up the phone lines recruiting. He just offered Jayden Russel, CB from Overland Park-St. Thomas HS. He is rated 3rd best in state and a 3star. He got good size at 6’1 and looks quick.

@FarmerJayhawk That's the only way to do it. Pooka to the left...Pooka to the right ... shorten the game. Do the football version of the 4 corners. It might be a little ugly, but the wins will be really nice.
Pooka can't carry it 30+ times per game all season. They need either multiple backs or some other threats, otherwise Pooka will be hurt five games into the season.
Right, and he won’t. RB is the deepest part of the roster now, assuming Herbert and Dom come back.

What style of offense is Coach Miles going to run? Do we have a QB to run it? Is Carter Stanley the presumed starter for now?
We’re going to line up in the I and smack people. At least some of the time. Based on personnel, I bet it’ll be more of a run heavy spread just because that’s the personnel we’ll have. Just based on Les’s past offenses, I bet we’ll be at least 60:40 run and Pooka may run for a gazillion yards.
I’d put a nice sum on the OC being Fisch
The majority, if not the entire staff should be in place by the 24th when the dead period ends.
The Miles hire can only help basketball recruiting. Fall visits become a lot more fun with a full Memorial and the Hatter on the sideline.
I think you all are going to be very, very happy with the assistants. :)
Thankfully there's a boatload of DL talent left in Texas and Louisiana for the new staff to poach.

@JayHawkFanToo His salary here will likely be in the $3-4 million per year range, possibly more. He'll make that money back in 2 seasons tops and he will be here at least that long.
Accurate. I think the base will be 3.5 with some incentives that could bump it over 4.
Yep, it’s all but wrapped. I expect them to finish the deal tomorrow or Sunday with an intro Monday.
Makes sense. KU wasn’t that interested because Chandler isn’t that good.

I’m still shocked. Long was clearly a home run hire. This Girod dude might be ok himself.
Amazingly huge improvements over the last person at their position for each of them. BGL can burn in hell if that existed.
Academically Bernie was really good, but most don’t really care about how KU does as a university as long as they win.

Twitter is saying the deal is nearly done for Miles.
It’s been done in principle for awhile now. Only holdups have been LSU’s buyout and the assistant coaching pool.
We still have a great shot at Hurt. Get him and everything is dandy.

I would be STUNNED if it wasn't Miles.
Reminder with the LSU buyout settlement.
Do I need to go into small sample properties for statistics? Because I might just for shits and giggles.

Blue blood recruiting, maybe sans UNC, is going to be subpar this year. UK looks like they're going to whiff on some of their main targets, Dook may be done after getting Ellis, and we're really only chasing Stanley, Hurt, and Nnaji, and guaranteed to get none of them. Weird year.
Agree.
KU will need to add bodies if they miss on any of these guys (perhaps all three). So it could be that we really don't even know the names of 3-4 guys that will be on the team next year. Unless of course we have some surprise returns, which I wouldn't complain one bit about. Going to be verrrrry interesting.
I’ve never considered KU the favorite for Stanley, and we agree that it would be a big surprise if he were to pick KU, so we’ll look in the spring for another guard. I still think we get at least one of Nnaji and Hurt. Still a chance we have one of Silvio, Dedric, or Doke. One of each group and we’re cooking with gas. Add KJ, Mitch, McCormack and that’s a really good frontline. Dotson, Garrett, Moore, and Ochai are good enough at guard. Whatever we can get from McBride and Braun is a bonus.
The NCAA is so pissed about the federal cases they absolutely hammered BYU. Tark's axiom proves true yet again.

Yeah Pooka’s dad keeps saying he’s an SEC back and real football blah blah. If he wants to leave an offense where he’ll be featured for the next 3 years that’s on him.

Some Smoke coming out about Justin Fuente... I doubt the trigger gets pulled but I'd love the hire.
Where are you seeing this? That would be amazing. But there’s no way it’s happening since the search is done.

I fear that Kavanaugh is a result based judge. He decides the outcome he wants, then looks for a legal rationale to support it. We will know soon enough, as those types of judges typically have conflicting rationales on similar issues because they wanted one outcome in one situation, and the opposite outcome in another situation.
His tenure on the DC Circuit suggests otherwise.

Lots of proposed payment info. I must’ve missed the confirmed payment info. I wonder who all will end up ensnared in this mess.
Everybody yet nobody.
Self was in to see Zeke today.
Enos more likely is interested in being Les’s OC. Locksley, not Enos, calls plays at Bama. Enos is looking to get back after it. If the rumored names for assistants work out, it’s going to be a hell of a staff.
@kjayhawks they won't have to. Officially it'll be a mutual parting of ways. There will be a lot of "I believe it's time and all good things come to an end" yada yada. In no uncertain terms Snyder was forced out. Monied interests in Manhattan were done with the status quo.
Of course they do. They moderate my opinions pretty substantially. My point is as tempted as he may be, he's not competent enough to get through the guardrails that the Constitution set up and he's sufficiently unpopular to where Congress will act if necessary. My probably unpopular opinion is Trump is Nixon but less intelligent and more of a loudmouth.
I also have a hard time squaring the arguments that our system is too slow and doesn't allow majoritarian action (as was the argument under President Obama) but one guy who wasn't popularly elected and can't put together two sentences without saying something stupid is a threat to the American republic.
And don't get me started on the press. I have strong opinions on their failures to do their duty over the last 15+ years. Some of it is their fault, some isn't, but it's still an institutional failure to do what they say they do, and that can do as much damage to the republic as Cheeto Jesus.
@approxinfinity never said it was. There’s also a lot of runway between incompetent boob and fascist.
@Woodrow really the former but officially the latter.
Snyder is out. Matter of when. Could be tomorrow.
I don't see Trump as some existential threat to the republic. He's a clown that's not competent enough to make money during the freaking housing bubble, let alone take down the US. In short, he's basically Zenger, but more of an asshole. As an aside, my gods have we put too much faith in the Presidency. Yeeesh. Article 1 my dudes.
And I say this as someone with likely more political and policy experience and expertise than anyone on this board. If Trump was basically Hitler, Congress would assert its will and remove him from office. House Democrats may try next year, we'll see.
The only JuCo recruits I'm interested in are guys that can get to KU by spring ball their sophomore year. Those guys are willing to put in the work on and off the field to get to a D1 school and compete. Beaty has done a good job with those guys. I'm good with plucking a couple guys like that every year just to plug holes, because even the best miss and KU doesn't recruit well enough to have solid backup plans on their board, especially along the lines.
KSU is going to clean house, from the top down. Could start as soon as tomorrow. Littrell isn't going to KSU. File it under "Guys who want to appear in demand." Littrell will have much better opportunities. UNC being one. Or he could pull a Herman and just wait a year for OU or another premium job to open up. KU almost definitely will not be open by the time Littrell really hits the market.
Texas Hawk 10 said:
@kjayhawks USC won't be open this year. They're having a down year, but it won't be enough to get rid of Helton.
There won't be a top tier job open this season. Michigan is the one that could be open if Harbaugh doesn't beat OSU, but I'm skeptical of it happening this year. North Carolina might be the best job that comes available this year.
UNC will be Littrell if he wants it. Really good fit there.
We've had that rhetoric since the first partisan election in 1800. Yawn. 2018 isn't hash tag # different. The country made it through a civil war. It'll make it until the next Congress or next President or whatever next you're looking for.
Rumor is that Long is asking donors for the money specifically for Miles.
