@Crimsonorblue22 Awesome!
@BeddieKU23 I could not believe their fans started streaming out when they did. Geez.....great fans!
Any win in Ames is a great win. Not all of the contenders will win there...........and now ISU has a home loss.....Great!
I was worried when we missed some shots we should make in the 2nd half....Lucas and Bragg with layups most notably. But they both finished enough shots to make the difference.
Lucas could not handle Burton...but I guess the issue is...when Bowie is not in.........who else is he gonna guard?
@KansasComet I remember those days as well. Some younger fans have only tasted a high level of success. I am right there with you.
@drgnslayr Great point. I am sometimes amazed at how we all can get on this site and think we can identify whom the recruits that we need are...........but all part of the fun, I guess.
@HawkChamp Agree!
@jayhawk-007 Thanks for sharing. AFH is a special place full of special fans. I need to get back for a game more often.
I wouldn't call this a must win. We do need to win in a tough place on the road though..........WVU, Baylor, KSU, or tonight.........obviously we don't know how many of those we need for #13.
If we lose tonight......just means it is more imperative to win at other places....pure and simple.
Need road wins........might as well start tonight.
@truehawk93 IMO the way these kids think.........if Newman, Graham, Svi, and Garrett join him in the backcourt.......might not be enough minutes. These kids seem to want to go to a situation where they are, as much as possible, guaranteed minutes. Maybe it is only Graham in his mind....but who knows, for sure.

Fortunate, though, that Josh did not get hurt. He hit the hardwood hard more than once yesterday. Probably spent this morning in a whirlpool...with Frank!
What are you implying about Josh and Frank? ("Not that there's anything wrong with that")
Just Kidding. That last sentence just made me chuckle.
@Crimsonorblue22 UCLA, Gonzaga, maybe. I just think we have had too many close games at home.........the obvious question is ........what happens when we play in a tough environment?
Guess we'll find out Monday night.
@jayballer54 I certainly agree with you that I don't think we should be #1. We're not playing well enough.
Seems like we just play well enough to win?
The stretches of really poor defense confuses me...we replace Selden and Ellis with Jackson and Svi/ Vick....should be close to the same defensive team that we were last year......maybe Ellis, with his experience made a big difference...I don't know.
The FT shooting (mainly by Josh) is going to bite us.
Maybe we need to get our rears kicked in a game to light a fire under them?
@jayballer54 I hope you are right about the game in Manhattan. I am in the camp that thinks KSU is pretty good.......but they are going to have to win some of those close games to prove that.
@jayballer54 I don't think we will get spanked at WVU.......could lose though, for sure.
It is frustrating watching one of their games, because you just keep thinking that they have to pay for those double teams more than they do. If we handle it right, we should get some layups and a lot of open 3s.
Never seems to work that way though.
I would hope that this is the team that could handle their press fairly well.
@tundrahok Yes. I was glad to see that he owned up to it.
@stoptheflop I think that depends on how tough you think Baylor will be to overcome. If they win at WVU.and we don't........they are one up on us.
@BeddieKU23 When 2 contenders play, I usually hope that the home team wins.........otherwise the team that wins on the road (in this case Baylor) is "one up" on us in that respect. The other side of the coins is.....as you point out, that a loss will give WVU .....2 including one at home..........which puts them at a disadvantage. I suppose it all depends on how much of a threat you really believe Baylor is..........history would suggest that they will lose more games than they should in the conference..........we will see if this year is different.
@Crimsonorblue22 I think they will give them a game..........but lose.
@BShark Losing Svi, Josh, and Graham. That is what I think, as well.
We looked a log more active on defense tonight.
Does anyone know why he is transferring after one semester? Specifically?
@JayHawkFanToo I don't either..........that doesn't mean he won't leave though.
@HawkChamp said:
@BeddieKU23 has Bill come out and said Devonte is gone? Unless he picks up his play, he will be back.
You're using too much common sense. If you are not pretty sure you are going in the first round...........stay as long as you can. The kids don't always look at it this way. Based on the link posted above, it appears he just wants to be done with school and thinks he will make it somewhere.........similar to Selden.
@BShark Thanks for that link. Definitely sounds like they believe Graham or Svi or both will be gone.
@HawkChamp The Fisher kid.....who is going to be really good, I think, had a tough time handling that pressure. Tough deal for a freshman.

How did we get so much worse defensively from a year ago while losing 2 rotation players? 1962, the last time KU let up that many points to KSU at Allen. Pathetic, idc if your a homer or not, it's flat out unacceptable.
That is what I have been wondering....we lose Wayne and Perry........replace them with Josh and a combo of Svi, Vick, and Bragg........doesn't make sense that we would regress that much.
@Lulufulu I am concerned about our lack of defense lately.........but not scared of a game in AFH.
Baylor or WVU at this point........maybe.
I think we'll be playing better defense by the time we play them........and I think we'll play better defense tomorrow.
@Crimsonorblue22 I don't know how you can look at the replay and say he did not travel.
@BShark I would agree.
My guess (and that is all it is) is that we get him if, in his or his advisors minds, that the guard / wing rotation is the right number for his PT. No idea what that number might be. Ex: If Cunliffe comes, then maybe Graham and Svi have to likely be gone for Young to commit. Or maybe only one.......who knows for sure.
If he views our backcourt too crowded........then maybe trying to help OU rebuild will look better to him.
Even though most of us seem to think that Graham may not end up being a projected first round pick and should therefore stay......doesn't mean he won't go anyway. Look at Selden. Or plenty of others from other schools. Self appears to be recruiting as if he will lose more than Mason and Jackson.
@HighEliteMajor I know we are only talking 2 games here........but we have had 2 close games with good, but not really good teams........in large part........because of our defense......... isn't that cause for concern in March? The teams we will play in March will be considerably better than TCU and KSU.
I am very happy we won. But I am concerned about the defense.
Ed Nealy........boy that brings back memories. Our fans would yell that he had a butt like a girl.........but he usually had a double double against us.
Have to admit.......the Mangino joke is pretty good.
@REHawk Thanks for that info.
@JayHawkFanToo Do you think we made TCU look better than they really are with our poor defense? Just a thought.
@dylans Niang had to give up basketball because of a physical issue...his back I think.
@Texas-Hawk-10 LL and Bragg played some together.........probably not a meaningful amount...........but they were both out there.
@Crimsonorblue22 That is interesting. How does he decide that? Performance vs. the other guys in practice?
@kjayhawks The reason we shot FTs well was that the 2 primary culprits of our bad FT % .......Doke and Josh, didn't go to the line. The rest of the guys.......should all be able to shoot it well from the line.
@wissox I can't remember a game where I have seen the opponent have so many open looks or clean drives to the basket. Hopefully, they will get this corrected.
It was good that we could win when JJ was basically absent. I agree that although LL won't put up those numbers every night.......it was good that he proved that he could..........and give us hope that he will now start playing more often like he did at the end of last year.
Yes..........really disappointing that Tech could not hold on.
Tech looks pretty good. I hope they win. I think ISU, despite how they played in the first half, is more of a contender than Tech..........but we shall see.
WVU winning at OSU was not what I really wanted to see. We will have to win at OSU or WVU will be one up on us in that regard. And...........we haven't played well at GIA.
@BeddieKU23 Yes. I was disappointed in OSU. No composure whatsoever. WVU was clearly the better team.
That's very funny. You often see guys try to listen in........but he took it a step further.
I watched alot of that 2nd half but did not see that incident. Georgia looked pretty decent. Good to see that we weren't the only ones that couldn't stop Maten. I just saw him play in person and he was pretty much taken out of the game against Oakland.......partially due to foul trouble. Georgia lost....which didn't impress me.......but it was that dreaded pre-Christmas game.
If the method they use says WVU is now the favorite, then their method / model makes no sense.
I could understand Baylor based on their performance so far.
But they will not be a favorite in my mind until they prove they can live up to expectations over the long haul of a season.
Maybe they will this year............but they haven't so far under Drew.
@jayballer54 The implication is that we had an advantage that we only played OU and UT once while they had to play each other twice.....until, as dylans said, that we starting playing everyone twice when we went to 10 teams in the conference.
In the years when OU and UT were both good...........probably some validity to us having a slight advantage. But.....we won or tied for the conference crown fair and square.
@Statmachine Seems like Graham will be gone.....so I think we need Trae Young.
But you are the one with your ear to the ground........you must think he'll be back.
@REHawk Yes, excellent point about the FTs. Josh needs to be better......50-60% and you become a liability at the end of a close game.
Frank.........just an off night.
But one off night at the FT line from one guy can cost you a game, as we all know.
Worrisome for sure.
@BeddieKU23 I am more worried about one matchup in the Dance that gets us. We'll still win as many, or almost as many as we would without Doke...........the question is will it get us in the tournament.
