I am not sure whether it is funny, idiotic or pathetic but the professor apparently teaches criminal science...the irony....or lunacy.
Also, the foul situation for Jackson has gotten a lot better...kid is a fast learner.
While Davidson played UNC somewhat close, it also lost to Clemson by 18 and College of Charleston by 15, neither teams is particularly awe inspiring. While they are a very good FT shooting team, FG and 3 point shooting is nothing to write home about. Aldrich at 6'-8" and 6'-0" Gibbs are their main weapon; Margarity at 6'-11" is their only big and has an 8.3 PPG in about 23 MPG. KU by a comfortable dozen.
If these reports are correct, she sounds like truck load of bad news.
I was visiting with a friend who knows an attorney that represented a former pro athlete in KC; he said that one time his girlfriend was trying to hit him and he just extended his arm to keep her away, she fell down and he was arrested...charges dropped. A few weeks later (you got to question his judgement) they got into another argument, he left the house and got into his car, she came out and started kicking his car, slipped on the ice and fell down...he was arrested and once again charges dropped. It happens a lot more often than we know, particularly with celebrities which Bragg certainly is in Lawrence.
Exactly. Not much that can be done about JJ; he has enough tools to get to the NBA and correct what needs correcting there,
Doke, on the other hand, will be here longer and his shooting can't get any worse; might as well start working on it as soon as possible and hope that by the end of the season his shooting is an asset rather than a liability.
He is shooting .238 from the 3... this is less than half of Mason's and about half of Vick's average; Devonte and Svi are shooting well over .40o. When he can hit reliably over .300 the he can get the green light
KU really does not need JJ taking 3 point shots; plenty of outside shooting available and 3 point shooting is not his forte. JJ is best when penetrating and taking short jumpers, layups or dunks or taking mid-range jumpers where form is not critical.
I agree. The first half was very good but it looked like the team just coasted in the second half; I have seen a lot of the top ranked teams do the same so it is not restricted to KU.
Doke alway was and still is a project or work in progress, as it were. Anyone expecting immediate results, considering how green and unpolished he is, was being unrealistic. With the playing time he is getting he should be able to contribute more as the season progresses.
Typically, when a player changes shooting style his numbers will go down quite a bit before they improve but the end result will be much better.
At this point the average of some players taken a fair amount of FTs is low enough that changing their style in mid-stream will not hurt too bad and will derive big benefits as the season progresses.
Shaka Smart is a small time coach playing small time style at a big time program. He is wasting the talent he has by using a system designed for teams with lesser talent. He has yet to make the jump to the big time and I am not sure he will or that he can, as long as he is trying to prove that he is right.
The havoc allows teams with limited talent to compensate with top physical conditioning. At Texas, Shaka has top shelf talent and he still uses a system that depend on physical preparation rather than the natural skill of his players. Brute force over finesse, quantity over quality...whatever you call it, it wastes the talent available to him. This is not to say that top conditioning is not good, it is, but well prepared natural talent trumps that any day.
Looks like Lucas is back...a very welcomed development.
I called a15-20 point win, 17 is about right.
Half time OU 39 - WSU 37
Mason's confidence in his shot is off the charts.
Gillispie had been coaching at Ranger College, a community college in Texas where he played in the 1970s.
Billy Gillespie retiring because of health reasons.
Coaches don't like it but your teammates love it...
Coach Self does not like that...
That ship has sailed. Both parties have attorneys.
On a really good note, Lightfot completes his first 3 point play as a KU player which obviously included his first FT as well...1-10 and moving up. 😀
I believe this board has been exemplary commenting in reference to Bragg. Most if not all of us have really refrained from passing judgment until all the facts are known. Not every forum can say the same...it speaks volumes about the quality of our posters.
Agreed...easier said than done though.
I don't know either. Maybe they feel it was a lover's quarrel that got out of hand and there is hope they will kiss and make up and charges will be dropped...I know, a long wishful thinking shot...
Interesting. Mug shots are usually taken in front of a height chart and the individual holds a sign or one is added digitally with the case number; neither is present. These appear to be cleansed courtesy pictures provided to KU and not necessarily the customary "mug" shots.
15-20 point win sounds about right.
Surprising he was not on KU's radar or that he did not consider KU considering his father played here.
They are baaaack...
The havoc is a junk system that allows less talented teams to keep up with more talented teams by virtue of superior hustle. It works when the more talented team does not prepare for it and gets caught by surprise.
At the 2004 NCAA, #9 UAB with Mike Anderson as coach used the so called "40 minutes of hell" that he learned from Nolan Richardson while at Arkansas to beat #1 Kentucky who was not prepared. The next game UAB played KU, who was prepared, and with Aaron Miles at the PG was able to easily beat the press and feed to an open Simien who had a banner day and scored 30 points, including going 18-20 from the line. KU won going away 100-74.
A team with a capable PG that can break the press will end up getting open easy and shots under the basket. KU has now capable guards to do just this and dominate the game.
As others have mentioned, Giles had been in trouble before and had used up all the good will available.
If you had asked me who was the least likely player to get into trouble, last season I would have said Ellis and this season I would have said Bragg. His shy demeanor, piano playing and overall niceness did not appear to show the type of person that would do something like this; it just seems out of character, on to other hand, how well do we really know him?
Perhaps you have not been here long enough but if you look at all of his posts, I seriously doubt you will find a positive or constructive one.
@mayjay got it right, I was using Coach Self's wording in relation to some misguided doings, nothing more nefarious than that.
...
I will guess he will suspended but not expelled from the team, doing so would send a message of guilt and I know Coach Self would not do this to a player. After the Court date and if he is found guilty then all bets are off. Just my take.
Love it!
Mason came from HS with a volume scorer reputation...didn't he break Moses Malone record?... and at times in his early goings he reverted to that. The big difference is that he has become a much better shooter and scorer, but more importantly, much more selective on the shots he takes; a very nice progression for Mason.
From what I have read about Bragg, this seems out of character. I gave the WVU dude the benefit of the doubt on the flagrant foul and I would be dishonest if I don't do the same with Bragg...at least until all the facts are in.
I am sure Coach Self and staff are on top of the situation and we will have the facts soon enough.
Key words from the available reports:
"suspicion" of domestic battery against a family member.
"HAS NOT" not yet been charged...
So, let's wait until all the information is in before commenting; we still have that pesky presumption of innocence until proven guilty.
Having said this, I disagree he is still a kid, he is a week away from turning 21; a grown man, in my opinion.
A captcha is a system designed to distinguish humans from machines. Typically it will show a set of fuzzy, twisted characters that you need to type but machines are unable to distinguish; some might show you the picture of a house with the house number displayed prominently and you need to type that number to verify. It could show you the picture of a KU player in uniform and you need to type the number on the uniform; pretty easy for a human to see but a spambot would have trouble figuring out,...makes sense?
They are pretty common. For example, if you are on EBay and want to send a message to a seller, you need to complete a captcha before the message is sent.
This is what I would suggest if your board stats allow it:
Delete users that have not viewed posts in the last 3 months. If They have not viewed posts during basketball season, why are they here?
Delete users that have viewed post less than 3 times in the last 6 months.
These 2 steps should get rid of the great majority of the spambot created accounts.
Implement a "captcha" for joining the board. I believe @approxinfinity was looking into this before and it is the most effective way to keep spambot from registering fake accounts...depending on the strength of the captcha used.
Implement a captcha to post new topics. I understand it is a nuisance but a small one to prevent fake posts. The average user creates a new topic maybe a couple of times per week so it is not really too much of a hardship. This step alone will prevent spambot created users from posting new topics like the deluge we just saw.
I don't believe the Big 12 is as down as you think. Bracketology ↗ currently has the Big 12 with 6 teams with Oklahoma on the First 4 out and Texas Tech in the Next 4 out that is 6 in and 2 almost in. If I were a betting man, I would bet the Conference gets at least 6, probably 7 and maybe even 8. The Big 12 is currently 69-15 (.821) in non conference games; the previous high was 2015-16 at 114-30 (.792); the Big 12 is still the top ranked conference. ↗
I do think KU will win the Conference but it will not do it "pretty easily." it will be a fight with Baylor and WVU and winning road games will be critical.
You could be right. The incoming players might be his lifesaver.
Romar's record the previous 4 years has hovered barely over .500 and he finished T6, T8, 11 and 8 in conference with no winning conference record, no NCAA and 2 early NIT exits. One more bad season and he could be toast.
Not just him. I should have said Fran Fraschilla among others...
He really is not bad. His issue is/was with his son playing at OU he developed a bias against KU; I always thought that he wanted to walk on at KU but KU did not want him. Now that he is no longer at OU, maybe Fran will go back to being less of a dick.
As I mentioned before, the Baylor at KU game will probably be the key. a comfortable win places KU in the driver seat with less pressure for the return game at Baylor. A close win by KU or a win by Baylor places them in control with a lot less pressure for the return game in Waco.
On the other hand, KU and OU played a game for the ages at AFH last season that KU finally won in 3 OTs and then won the return game at OU in less dramatic fashion. I believe the first game took a lot out of both teams with KU losing 3 of the next 6 at WVU, OSU and ISU. OU beat KSU at home and then had two close calls at OSU and against WVU winning both games by 2 points before losing at ISU.
Fran Fraschilla raved about his athleticism and range; he was supposed to be the more athletic version of Perry Ellis.
A role player at TCU would not get much PT at KU. As a senior, he should be THE man at TCU and he is not.
He shot 64% from the FT and 30% from the 3 in 3 years of HS ↗; he was supposed to have range.
The post said that UMKC lost to Creighton by 7???
You are probably right...unless the KU staff was able to develop him into the type of player he was projected to be.
