It is possible that a 2019 prospects reclassifies for 2018 either late summer or commits and joins half way through the season like De Sousa did. I understand there are still a few prospects that fit this criteria.

@JayHawkFanToo Other indictments might be on hold until they see if this one flies.
Don't you think that is highly prejudicial and gives the appearance of a targeted investigation?
If the current indictment does not "fly" KU and by extension Coach Self will forever be associated to it and lots of people will always think that KU just got away with it while the programs associate with the other brands basically get a pass. It is essentially like spreading a rumor, lots of people hear it and considerably less hear the rebuttal or bother to check if it is true and the target of the rumor is forever tainted.
Politician do it all the time throwing unverified allegation hoping they stick and it is considered highly unethical. You can expect this from politicians but one could only hope the FBI and DOJ are above this, although given what we have learned recently about the people that were/are in charge at both agencies, both appear to have been heavily politicized and weaponized to go against opponents of the people at the top
My point was that KU was not indicted but named as a potential “victim” and yet it apparently was hurt with Langford who in turn might end up hurting Indiana...see the tangled web that has been woven so far? What is the difference between Preston’s mom and Langford’s dad getting money? One might be a NCAA violation but neither appears to break the law.
So far, the probe seems to have concentrated on Adidas and nothing else has come out about the other brands. Even Arizona seems to be off the hook. Looks to me the investigation has been targeted to Adidas and highly prejudicial. Maybe Nike and Under Armour are just better at cheating and if the FBI has not gotten any evidence by now, as shown by a lack of an indictment, then all the evidence has been likely laundered away and gone.
If daddy Langford was paid to steer Romeo to (most recently) Indiana an Adidas program, will it be now added to the indictment? How is different than Preston and De Sousa situations?
Not a good time to be an Adidas program. There seems to be a concerted effort to prod the FBI to investigate Adidas program while not a peep about the other programs is mentioned and even Arizona seems to have escaped from the brunt of the attacks and Sean Miller, unlike a Pitino, seems to have weathered the storm with no personal damage.
I get what you are saying but what would they charge him with? As far as I know it is not illegal to get money from someone willing to give it to you...as long as you declare it and give the government its cut. Granted, it might make someone in the loop ineligible but no laws are broken. It is not the role of the FBI to enforce NCAA regulations.
Any chance that it has to do with Adidas? If this is the case KU will not be a candidate.
He was projected bottom of first round, probably will not help him to skip the combine, only top players get away with it. Whoever is advising him is not helping; I see China in his future.
I know it is tongue in cheek, the scary part is that in the current environment it could actually happen.
Unless Sketchers is giving away free shoes to KU players, which would probably an impermissible benefit anyway, I just don't see any of them wearing them since Adidas provides a large number of shoes of all kinds to every player.
I would not be surprised if Adidas contract with KU precludes (or strongly discourages) players from wearing any other brand.
If he stays at KU, his development must happen during the off season and he will just polish the new skill during the regular season. Frankly, if Doke can develop a decent mid-range game, he would be that much more valuable to KU since he becomes a lot more difficult to guard and I can see why the coaching staff would want him to do it. Just my opinion.
I agree that a NBA team might take a gamble on Doke but it will not be in the draft. The more likely scenario is that he is offered a two way contract for the G League that allows him to move for up to 45 days to an NBA roster with the pay prorated to the basic rookie contract for the time spent at the upper level. I just don't see an NBA team using a draft pick on a player lacking so many of the skills needed at the higher level. One extra year in college, and assuming he can correct his FT shooting, develop better rebound technique/production and most importantly, develop a mid range offensive game, then he would become a potential fist round pick.
The G League currently pays $7k for month plus expenses for a total of $35K for the 5 months of the season, If the player maxes out his time at the NBA level he can earn over $300K per season. Of course, if he is never called to the upper level then $35K plus some bonuses is all he gets. A year ta KU is likely worth twice that amount.
Indeed. the City of Olathe/Johnson County increased the appraisal of my home by almost $80K in the least 3 years which is insane; i have appealed but I am not hopeful. I was visiting with a friend of mine who lives in Sarasota, Florida and whose house is appraised at about 80% of mine and her taxes are one third of mine after the homestead credits and Florida does not have a state income tax either, her sales tax is 7% and in Olathe we are now just at 9.5% and you pay an additional 1% in certain development areas such as the shops on 119th and Black Bob. Frankly, I can go across the State line to some of the newer areas in Lee's Summit, get more house for the money and pay considerably less taxes...Kansas and Johnson county are pricing themselves out of the market.
As I contemplate retirement I just don't see where it makes any financial sense to stay in Kansas and particularly Johnson County
Kansas fiscal policy is now very bad and Kansas ranks now #40 in tax burden where #1 is the least tax.
Sketchers mentions 2 KU players ↗, Preston and De Sousa in lawsuit. the lawyers wrote:
Skechers' attorneys wrote: "Skechers is informed and believes, and on that basis alleges, that between January 13, 2018 and March 31, 2018, De Sousa played basketball for the University of Kansas in 20 games, consistently wearing footwear and clothing with prominent Adidas logos both on and off the court. On information and belief, most, if not all, of the games in which De Sousa played while wearing Adidas-branded gear were televised locally, regionally, and/or nationally."
I am confused...what else was Silvio supposed to wear? If I ever need a lawyer, I surely hope I can do better than these jokers.
The story has now made national news ↗.
On separate news, the SCOTUS has overturned the Sports Gambling Ban ↗ and now states and cities will be rushing to implement sports betting as another way to raise money to cover their out of control spending in the same way the lottery was supposed to fund education...right...
Again, read my post. I presented my opinion as that, an opinion and as such it’s not right or wrong since it is...again...an opinion; I did agree that he Yankees have been successful, I only added that they have also underachieved and @wissox also did. You presented your opinion as fact and refuse to even consider anything anyone else thinks; this is the text book definition of having a closed mind and further discussion is really moot.
Again, read my post. Your answer does show a lack of open mindedness which you obviously don’t see it. Let’s just agree to disagree and leave it at that.

@JayHawkFanToo Just because I don't share your opinion doesn't make me wrong
It does not make you right either, right?
It sure feels like they have some programs, including KU, on their crosshairs. Apparently it costed KU Langford and maybe more prospects in the future. I bet behind close doors KU, Miami, UNC State and Louisville definitely feel targeted.
Also, Adidas didn’t pay Under Armour for DeSousa, they outbid Under Armour for him. That’s why he flipped, not because Adidas paid UA off.
This is not what was reported. UA allegedly paid Silvio’s guardian to have Silvio commit to Maryland; however Silvio wanted to come to KU and Adidas gave the money to Silvio’s guardian so he could return the money to UA since Silvio did not commit to Maryland.
If the FBI has not found anything on the EYBL or with Nike by now chances are all the evidence is gone and nothing will be found.
Being successful and underachieving are not necessarily mutually exclusive and a person does not have to be a hater to point it out. Sometimes you should consider that not everyone shares your likes/dislikes and just because some of us don’t share your opinion it does not make us wrong. Yes, the Yankees have won titles and have been successful but considering the money they have spent they have definitely underachieved. You should try being more open minded.
Yes, his dad was a coach and yes, his last two season he was pretty much kept to mentor and tutor the younger players. I think he has a future in coaching, either college or the NBA.
Successful? Perhaps. Considering the insane amount of money they make and spend based only on location, you could say they have underachieved.
If there is one, at this point it would likely be a player reclassifying for 2018.
Not unexpectedly, one of my all time KU favorites, Nick Collison, is retiring from basketball. ↗ One of the better players ever at KU and an outstanding individual will long be remembered by the Thunder for his contribution on and off the court.
I would love to see him take a position at KU coaching bigs., He was one the more fundamentally sound players while at KU and NBA and a mentor to many of the great players at OKC and I believe he would make a heck of a coach. Hopefully we get to see him more in Lawrence.
Come on guys, dial down the rhetoric and play nice. You both make good points and it would be nice to discuss them without getting personal of having the thread locked down.
I personally find the entire affair distasteful and stupid considering that hazing has placed fraternities in hot water in the not too distant past and, any action that involves the potential or alleged discrimination of women, will trigger all kinds of responses and most of those are not remotely favorable. None of this bides well for the Athletic Department and seriously tarnishes KU's reputation.
It sure looks like the AD under Zenger is really going down in flames, not only with incidents like this, but with the unsatisfactory performance of many if not most of the of the sports programs not called men's basketball or women's volleyball. The football program, the primary cash cow, is in shambles and last season ticket sales were down $6M with no hope in sight, men's baseball has overall and conference losing records, 7 of the 8 members of women's tennis are foreign as are 8 of 10 women's golfers. If KU is going to outsource sports and not benefit state or even American athletes why even have them?
No question that the AD under Zenger's leadership has failed. He appears to be good at fund raising but even a shiny new stadium will not save a directionless football program.
Zenger needs to go. if nothing else...do we really want him to select yet another football coach?
...and yet we have not herd a peep about it. Interesting that Under Armour apparently gave money originally to Silvio's guardian so he would go to Maryland and Adidas (German corp.) allegedly stepped in with money to repay Under Armour and yet nothing on Under Armour (US corp.) or Nike (US corp.). Maybe a pattern?
By the way, the EYBL pertain to the Summer/AAU circuit and does not directly involve colleges and any wrongdoing found would not be tied to college programs. So far, the investigation has centered on primarily Adidas and college basketball programs which would appear to indicate a focused investigation with a selected target or targets in mind.
KU only has Jacobs so far and th rest is just smoke at this time and the same is true for most of the teams in the list. Until a player signs a LOI nothing is certain, Ayton comes to mind, and even then, the prospect can always decomit.
In this day and age when this type of behavior is no longer tolerated and cell phone cameras record everything, something like this is beyond stupid. The Ahletic Department needs to clean house and get the cheerleading program in order; the last thing it needs is this type of negative publicity particularly at this time.
Yes, Arizona is Nike but I don’t believe Nike was involved, only agents wanting future representation. If they indeed have recordings of Miller as it was initially implied one would think Arizona would have been the first one at bat and Miller would have been fired and yet, neither happened. There seems to be a lot more than meets the eye and the ultimate target would appear to be KU and/or Self now that Pitino is gone.
The various FBI indictments named Louisville, Miami, Kansas, UNC State and Arizona as the programs tied to a shoe company, all Adidas programs. If I recall correctly, Arizona, USC (Nike) and Auburn (Under Armour) assistants were tied to receiving payments from agents rather than shoe companies.
Interesting that Miami appears to have been removed from the latest indictment and Arizona appears to have gone dormant as well and the only programs left, some categorized as "victims" are all Adidas and furthermore, the programs that have really been hurt by the indictment are Louisville, UNC State which lost a freshman prospect and Yurtseven transferred out and apparently KU who may or may not have lost Langford due to the FBI investigation. Arizona was hurt but it was not related to association with a shoe company.
So far, it looks like mostly Adidas programs being hurt and it is hard to believe that in a world where money flows freely, Nike and Under Armour were not doing the same thing. Either they are much better at not getting caught or have friends in high places that are protecting them...probably a combination...unless future indictments will concentrate on those companies which at this time seems unlikely.
Don't we already have another thread on this subject?
More importantly, the feds can compel/subpoena testimony and cooperation but the NCAA has no such powers and all cooperation by athletes and/or families strictly voluntary and the penalties affect primarily the programs and not necessarily the athletes.
Reality is that when you change a player's form, the numbers go way down before they get better, so performance goes down in the short run even when in the long run the results can be considerably better. This is why when athletes change form they usually do it in the off-season so the initial decrease in performance is not important and by the new season comes along they are already on the upward trend; when implemented in the middle of the season, athletes tend to revert o their level of comfort and use the old form with even worse results.. Obviously I am not talking about minor tweaks but radical changes like it will take to change Doke's FT form. In Garret's case, I take it the staff decided that since he was not a primary scorer it would serve the team better to improve his defense and postpone improving his shooting form until the off-season.
Google has always been a forward thinking firm with incredible technology. I started using Google search in 2000 when they were just starting and I always wondered how they could offer the service at no cost and then I realized that Google from the very beginning realized that information is power and everything they have developed is geared to obtaining information.
In addition of the search capabilities, it developed the Android OS and the Chrome browser that collect every bit of information of your private life. The know every text and e-mail you send, every search you make, everything you like or dislike, every video you watch since the now own YouTube and YouTube TV, every site you access through its fiber internet network, every document you generate through the numerous applications they provide and now even your health status; in short, they know more about you than your wife and kids do or even the government, which has now intruded in every aspect of our lives. In short, privacy is now non-existent.
The part of Google (now under the umbrella of Alphabet) that worries me is they have a definite agenda that does not necessarily benefits individuals or our country but the corporation itself with little or no control or oversight and nothing anyone can do about it. Depending on what source you look, it is the largest software company in the world with almost absolute control over emerging technologies. If you watched the recent congressional hearings on Facebook, you know that it plays a huge role in shaping information by censoring information that does not fit its agenda; Google influence and control makes Facebook look like the proverbial piker when compared to Google...this unbridled power is not a good thing for individuals, the country or society at large. When Google/Alphabet decides to flex its muscle they will control everything since the government will be powerless to do anything since Google controls all the information and by extension the government/politicians.
I am curious why you seem to think Moore is not good or I should say not good enough to be excited. The City of Chicago alone probably produces more players than the 20 bottom states combined; you are not selected Illinois POY unless you are very good. He did have a very good season playing in the PAC 12, a major conference, and I would think that after one year in the KU system he would be even better.
Duke's is one of the better Law Schools in the country.
When you win the title you attract the better players; no doubt it helped Villanova. With its recent success Villanova will be getting looks from higher ranked players that want to stay in the East Coast, more of an issue for ACC teams and even UK than it is for KU, although in this particular case I would have liked for Cremo to come to KU.
Will he be the new version of Brannen Greene minus the attitude? Greene was perhaps the best pure shooter I have seen in college but his attitude and ego prevented him from having a more substantial role at KU.
Me too. He has a little of Mason and a little of Collins and both turned out rather well for KU.
Here is another good story ↗ about Moore.
Fultz was supposed to be the answer but he ended up doing the usual one year wait because of injury.
Doke is a smart kid and has shown he can learn and he is a hard worker. There is no reason why he could not improve if he comes back for an extra year.
Sixers should have won the game but kept giving it away.

It was posted in KU forums including this one that Moore was playing great and was practically “unguardable” in practice. I don’t recall who posted it by maybe that poster can chime in?
That was me that said that about Moore. I heard it from someone that gets to watch practice quite often and is close to the program....
Thank you. I hope he is indeed kick ass good.
While the NCAA tournament is the NCAA primary money maker, the apparel contract between the so called shoecos and colleges is driven primarily by football and not basketball. Look at the top 20 most valuable contracts ↗ and you will see that other than KU who does not even make the top 10, the rest are colleges where football rules; even at KU with arguably the worst football program in Division I, it generates more income than basketball since TV contracts generate the most money and football, not basketball, drives that train.
If basketball would drive the apparel contracts, schools like Villanova and Duke would be at the top and they are not even in the top 20 and UK and Michigan State, both with top tier basketball programs are tied for #20.
So...unless KU gets a senior transfer, no senior night? When is the last time that happened?
Interesting, will KU have a senior night next season? Dedric will be a senior but he is considered a red shirt junior. Would a grad transfer be considered a senior?
Don't forget we can watch all these teams pile up their losses on Metro Sports TV and ESPN3 from any where in the world...except if you are the State of Kansas and the KC Metro Area and in return half a dozen men's basketball games and a bunch of women's volleyball games are also blacked out.
Zenger must go...zing the Zenger...
Both are important; however, you can improve skills with good coaching and practice...size? not so much.
24/7 has both Grimes and Dotson ranked ahead of Quickley ↗; no way he starts over them. I rather take Cremo who fills a bigger need for KU.
I was note referring to that specific prospect but many others, much lower ranked, that routinely add elite programs for self-aggrandizing reasons.
