A win Saturday and KU will get at least a share of the title.

Think about it, history will be made with a win...probably one of the bigger accomplishments in any sport and a record that might never be broken, particularly with the class KU has coming and a likely 15th title. UCLA’s streak ended in 1979 or 39 years ago when it dominated all of college basketball. With the current parity in the sport the chances of it being broken are very small. Villanova has the current second longest streak with 6.

We have not begun to grasp the magnitude of this record.

@jayballer73

You did not answer my question. What would you consider a good or a poor team?

Would you say the top third of all Division I teams are good or better, the middle third average and the bottom third poor or worse?

TTU is learning the hard way what it is like to be at the top and have everybody gunning for you.

79-71...KU in 1st place all alone as it should be.

Waters channeling the two smurfs on steroids,. OSU up 14 with just over 11 minutes left, possession arrow and 3 time outs; TTU out of time outs...looking good so far.

@Crimsonorblue22

Well, they spice up the night life in Lawrence, that is for sure.

Devonte • Feb 21, 2018 09:53 PM

@Crimsonorblue22

Yes, TRob has not been back much, that is indeed surprising; KU and the fans were highly supportive of him during his personal down days. I believe he is playing in Russia now. The twins have been back a few times and so has Ben Mac, like you mentioned; he has been a great KU ambassador with all the community service he did in Sacramento.

@benshawks08

Perfect. The numbers don't lie.

When was the last time a visiting team was awarded only 2 FTAs in AFH?

Not that long ago, February 12, 2011...

well I know one for sure that's not good. - - Washington is not a good team - you consider Washington a good team ? - if you do you need to grab a websters and look up the definition of good. - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

So, what is your definition of a good team? Would you say a team that is in the top third of all Division I is good? How about 70 percentile? Washington is there and currently a bubble team for the Tournament. It might not be a title contender but as teams go, it is not a bad team...didn’t it beat KU after all?

No need to take my comments so personally, they are just comments. I thought you were going to try being less thin skinned.:smile:

There is no doubt in my mind that the refs should have called more than the 35 fouls they called on WVU.

What still flabbergasts me is how they called the game in such a way that KU wound up with only 2 FTAs; this I just cannot explain and ALL the explanations I have read are so easy to refute.

I just don't see how this game cannot be reviewed.

WVU was called for 35 fouls? Wow, this is news to everyone and I am sure Coach Self and KU players would have liked it since they though not all fouls were called on WVU.

KU wound up with only 2 FTAs? Wow, I am sure Huggy would have loved that.

Apparently you believe that only things that have happened before can happen again but in real life, for everything that happens there is always a first time. With your logic, sInce neither KU nor any other program for that matter has won 14 conference tittles in a row, it is not possible for KU to do that this year, and if it does, there must be an investigation by the conference and the NCAA.

Last season at Hilton, ISU was called for 12 fouls and KU was only 2-5 from the FT.

Last season At AFH KU was called for 25 fouls and Stanford went 30-37 from the FT; it hit a lot of the 1 and 1 front ends so it got a lot more attempts.

It happens.

You keep forgetting that if a team is called for a foul in the act of shooting 2 FTA are granted regardless of bonus status. If the foul is not in the act of shooting no FTA are granted.

KU’s outside shooting was off so it was penetrating and the majority of fouls were in the act of shooting while penetrating so they were granted 2 FT each time and KU reached the bonus fairly early.

WVU, on the other hand, was shooting wide open, uncontested 3s and not drawing fouls; only 6 attempts out of 60+ were at the rim.

The situation above was the perfect recipe for a large foul differential which is exactly what happened. If Huggy had not gotten nuts at the end and WVU not fouled on purpose, KU would have had less FTAs. Also, if WVU had not comitted line violations it would have had more attempts.

I don’t know why I am wasting my time, again, you have made up your mind and no amount of logic or facts will change it. I am out.

@Kcmatt7

Coach Self was wise enough to quickly get him off the court when he was getting way over his head and patiently waited until the righ time to leave him in and build his confidence.

@jayballer73

Addressing the issues you said Forde raised...Preston did no play a single NCAA sanctioned game, how dis this help KU? Alexander was sat down as soon as information came out and costed KU plenty by being short handed in post season. Jackson and Bragg had no eligibility issues, the suspensions were due to team rules violations. His attempt to impugn KU is just comical and laughable.

@jayballer73

Pat Forde is a Missouri grad that cannot help himself. Not that long ago there had a poll among sports writers about the best college basketball venue and AFH was in the top 3 of every single voter...except Forde who did not even had AFH in his top 10. This is not being a homer or biased or even childish, it is just being plain stupid.

Blue vs White • Feb 21, 2018 12:15 AM

At one time the home team always wore the lighter home color and the visitor the darker uniforms but that is no longer the case. I have seen lots of teams switch to black unis, a trend that started as a result of teams copying the Oakland Raiders outlaw/thug theme which now lots of teams wear, even when black is not even remotely related to their traditional colors...tradition does not seem to matter any more and trendy colors win. Even the KU football team wore black uniforms not that long ago...how black relates to Crimson and Blue escapes me.

@REHawk

Projecting college play to the NBA is like projecting HS play to college on steroids. Doke is dominating smaller players in college but in the NBA he will run into men equally big or bigger than him, his rebounding needs a lot of work and he needs to develop some sort of mid range shot; the NBA is moving away from under the basket bigs and switching to mobile bigs that can step outside and hit from there.

Doke has Improved immensely but still is a work in progress that needs a lot of additional development to be effective at the next level.

Yep, same ol’ turf toe injury.

SILVIO!!! • Feb 20, 2018 10:07 PM

Did anyone else heard the announcer (Vitale) state that the KU players had asked Coach Self to leave Doke in at the end of the
OU game in Norman?

@mayjay

Absolutely correct. Without context it is the same as citing the famous...or it is it infamous? 35-2 FTA numbers.

Keenan Evans is day to day • Feb 20, 2018 10:01 PM

Perhaps you will remember that Devonté also had a turf toe injury a ↗ couple of years ago and missed 4 weeks.

FWIW, OSU is playing for a tournament bid. A sweep of the last 4 games and they are in, win 3 particularly over TTU and KU and they are a bubble team, anything less and they are out. Huge incentive for them.

I am not sure how it is factored that KU has typically has led towards the end of games and opponents fouled on purpose. Remember how OU fouled Doke repeatedly and on purpose towards the end of game in Norman?

@Crimsonorblue22

Yes, he looks like he is packing a lot of extra weight and it has to be hard on the joints. He has the genes that make him gain and retain weight; he has struggled with this his entire career.

I posted before that once the game slowed down for him he would be able to contribute, looks like he is getting there...

KANSAS FRESHMAN C SILVIO DE SOUSA

On how he felt being in the game:

“It felt great. I just think that who we are on the court is a result of who we are off the court. I’m just trying to build my confudence for the team and help them as much as I can.”

On if the game is slowing down for him:

“For sure. Right now I see things a lot slower. I remember the first day I got here I was seeing the ball move around and I didn’t know what to do. Now I can control the ball, catch, and pass, so I’m getting used to it.”

@Crimsonorblue22 @BShark

Apparently injured? ↗

@BShark

Sorry, I did not say you did only that the spiritual coaching is more important in the big scheme of things.

@BShark

Nice to finally have a little usable depth for a change. :smile:

The only team that made it with a conference record of 4 games below even was ISU a long, long time ago. OU needs to win the next 3 or it will be in serious trouble; anything less than 2 wins and it is out.

@jayballer73

I don't agree. This team is just too good to lose to #16 seed. All the loses have been to very good or good teams, a #16 seed would likely be ranked outside the top 100 and would have had to be in a play-in game. The parity in college basketball is in the top 20-40 teams not between a top 10 and a below 100 team. No way, no how, no ma'am.

KU/OU Recap • Feb 20, 2018 04:54 AM

Think about it....

"The win marks No. 300 all-time in Big 12 play for the Jayhawks. Only two other schools (Texas, Oklahoma) have surpassed the 200 mark." from ESPN recap.

It is entertaining to listen to some that apparently think that this win changes something. It doesn't even move the needle on the narrative of this season one degree. This is the pattern, if one is paying attention. Only future games, and consistency, say winning our next two at home, might suggest a change in the narrative.

How is that change in narrative coming along?

They will probably hold him against OSU unless the game starts to go South in which case he might play. Have to win the game at hand, particularly if it is one you are supposed to win. Losing the OSU game would increase the pressure on them big time since they have tougher games coming.
