I agree. If a 2-star prospect from a small school that still plays 8-man iron man football in the middle of nowhere doesn’t know all the rules, I could maybe understand, but a top prospect that went to an elite prep basketball school, Oak Hill Academy where the emphasis is getting top prospects to elite schools, just defies logic and by extension implies willingness by him and his family to ignore the rules; no other explanation makes sense. AAU coaches, agents and boosters know this is not allowed and could not do it without the individual and family tacit approval. Why anyone would risk so much for so little escapes me.
I don't dislike him but I expected more from the #5 player in his class on his third year in college.
He is not that bad but he is not that good either, mostly due to his inconsistency and selfishness.
Didn't I say the same thing? I just called the first 3-1/2 minutes familiarity with AFH and cockiness, after that it was a complete collapse and KU was outscored by 23 points.
I read somewhere that the once promising class had fallen completely apart.
@HawkChamp said
nope I said five minutes. I know it doesn’t fit the current narrative but there was a definite difference in the next thirty five minutes energy and intensity wise. A friend watching it with me saw the same thing.
Between the 3-1/2 minute (mine) and 5 minute mark (yours) KU was outscore 8-0, are you still saying it played well in those 1-1/2 minutes? I think not.
Didn't a couple of high profile recruits decommitted recently?
If you read the article I cited, he went back to football because he was told it had a better future and not because he was not good at basketball. Basketball offers from 2 major programs would certainly validate that premise.
I am not saying that he will start at KU but he could certainly contribute valuable minutes.
I really don't think Lightfoot would be forced out; I can see Newman being forced out before Lightfoot.
In any case, I believe Newman came to KU to get exposure and improve his draft stock but looks like he has been exposed instead. He is way too inconsistent and perhaps overrated, although the jury is still out on this. I just don't see him with NBA potential and overseas looks like the more likely destination and if that is the case, no need to stick around for an extra year.
He played JuCo basketball last season before transferring to KU to play football. While he was playing basketball he got offers from Washington State and Oregon State but thought his future was in football.
I am also curious...
I suggested before that KU should require as a condition to playing at the Sprint Center, it is made available for 2 or 3 practices before the game. I imagine it would be very difficult because they would have to set up and remove the court floor in between events/concerts.
KU has lost the last 3 official games it has played at the Sprint Center and I read KU players don't like playing there.
Sosinski is not that far removed from basketball and apparently he had offers from major programs ↗ before deciding to play football at KU.
Sosinski has considerably more experience tha DeSouza beyond HS having played in JuCo and he also has size and strength and has yet to see the court. I would not expect to see DeSouza contribute right away.
KU made its first 5 shots and took an early lead but after shots stop going in the wheels fell off the wagon and the team lost its poise and concentration and not only missed shots, it had silly turnovers.
After KU went up 15-2 three and a half minutes into the game, it was outscored by Arizona State by 23 points the rest of the game. You are telling me the team played with energy and confidence for all of 3-1/2 minutes?
Tough break. I hope he comes back right after Texas plays KU; we can use all the breaks we can get.
Considering KU seldom loses 2 games in a row, much less at home, I am pretty sure it has not happened in the last 30+ years...unless KU had a transfer that started just before on of those rare occasions.
Close but not quite correct.
KU beat Chaminade at the Maui invitational to start the season 1-0 and then lost the next 2 games to Iowa and Illinois at the same tournament for a 1-2 record. It did go to win the NCAA though.
They better be willing to pay a lot of money because coaching at KU seems to be a good way to end your career...in 2 or 3 years, although they send you away with a nice retirement package.
What @wissox said above...
Just curious. Can you please tell me where you saw that Marshall is not well regarded? Every list of top coaches I have seen in the last couple of years has Marshall in the top 10ish and he is also one of the top 10 paid coaches in college basketball.
I get that some posters don't like or respect Marshall and we are all entitled to our opinions, but there is little doubt that Marshall is one of the better active coaches and paid accordingly. I don't particularly like him or the WSU program but I have to admit that he is a heck of a coach and has done very well at WSU which is currently ranked #3; hard to find fault with that.
Udoka is averaging less than 2.5 fouls per game and has not fouled out in any game; he has not been in real foul trouble yet.
How do you figure?
The top 5 players for ASU played 175 minutes or 87.5% of available minutes, the other 3 players combined for 25 minutes. KU top 5 players played 167 Minutes or 83.5% and the other two players combined for 33 minutes. ASU should have had more tired legs than KU.
Normore was an All_state PG in HS and played basketball for 2 years at WSU before deciding to concentrate on football the next year and transferred to KU when WSU ended the football program. Larry Brown had recruited him in HS he and he wanted to play for KU but KU already had Cedric Hunter and Mark Turgeon on board.
It is not the gate receipts that generate income, it is the Conference TV contract ...and other teams going to bowls. The football team could play in an empty stadium and still generate bigger revenue than the basketball program.
WSU hit the "Perfect Storm" of recruiting a few year ago with several unheralded players that turned out great and set the table for the next few years and the crest of the storm is probably this year's team with 4 senior and one great sophomore in Shamet; got to give credit to the staff for spotting the potential.
At the end of the season WSU loses 6 seniors including 4 starters and 6 of the 9 top players in the rotation and Shamet might also leave for the NBA. The incoming class has 1 - 4 star player, 3 - 3 star players and 2 other lesser ranked players and nowhere near good enough to replace what they have right now. This is the year WSU must do something because it will be a big drop next season. Next season KU beats WSU by at least 30.
Has anyone else noticed that after a football player joins, KU has lost all games? Coincidence? Obviously but still...
Feel bad for Sosinski, he can seem to catch a break; he joins the basketball team and it goes on a losing streak...
Yep. 11 spots rise for them, 11 spots drop for KU...of course there was the loss to Washington.
Chalmers and Devonte are/were similar players in college; RussRob would complement Devonte better...in my opinion.
The football program generates considerably more revenue than the basketball program; does not seem logical but it is true.
I would rather have RussRob instead of Chalmers playing with Devonte.
How I miss Mason. Best PG we have had in a long time and best late game "go to" player as well. Yesterday he would have willed the team to win.
Neither Chalmers nor Graham are natural PGs. Chalmers did not play PG at KU and had to adapt in the NBA.
That was familiarity with AFH and cockiness. After Arizona State settled the team lost its poise.
Arizona State also plays small ball with primarily a 6 player rotation and they do not have tired legs.
Cannot rebound? Other than Doke, only Vick had more rebounds (7) than Lightfoot's 5 and he played more that twice as many minutes (39 vs 18). He also tie with Doke in blocks with 2.
I don't get the hate for the only kid I see trying his hardest while playing a position he is not qualified or built for.
Edit: I should have refreshed my browser. After I posted a bunch of posts similar to mine showed up.
KU was unlucky insofar as it ran into two teams that were in the zone and played their best games of the year. Arizona State made some highly unlikely shots that another day probably don't go in and I was not too crazy about some of the call either. So much for the excuses.
This KU team badly needs concentration, composure and poise, something a team with the available experience should have. With over 5 minutes left, the team got within 6 and had the ball and I was thinking...here comes the run...only to have Malik turn the ball over and it never got closer after that. New Mexico played a similar small ball style with basically 6 players, so we cannot really say they had an advantage there. When a team is making shots from the outside, the key is to deny them the shots but the defense has been sub-par in the last two games. A Coach Self indicated, the team right now is soft.
Look like DeSouza will be joining the team soon but I just don't see him contributing much until late in the season,. The physical requirements are year ahead of HS and I would be surprised he can play more that a few minutes against Division I bigs and he will also be way behind in the playbook and probably less effective than Lightfoot; I sure hope I am wrong. Preston would be the most desirable addition since he has been practicing with the team, is more physically ready and more familiar with e playbook, but with each passing day the chances get smaller.
Maybe this loss will light a fire under their collective butts and make them try harder...and smarter. Playing like this will not win the conference; no way, no how, no m'am.
You are upset about the loss, I get it, we all are, but to say KU is not a good team and the wins over UK and Syracuse are not good/impressive is...well, I don’t know what to call it that would not offend you.
The only losses both teams have are to KU, period. Kentucky was, is and will continue to be a top 10 team and it is a quality win any way you look at it. Even after losing to KU Syracuse is getting votes in the coaches poll and has wins over teams like Maryland and UConn which you probably will say are not good either; another quality win.
KenPom which lately seems to be the go to person for rankings now has KU up to #4 and Sagarin and Massey have it as #7 and #8 and provided it does not lose today and Parrish rankings notwithstanding, KU will still be a top 10 in the two main polls.
You mean UK and Syracuse are not real teams?
KU wins 85-74.
Considering its schedule, Villanova could get to the dance undefeated. I believe Seton Hall and Xavier are the only ranked teams left in the schedule.
WSU pulled away in the second half and beat OSU. They are a really good team and anyone that says otherwise has not see them play or is delusional.
BTW, I know an 80 year old man with the exact same comb over as Frankamp and every bit as silly. 🤣
Sorry, I was watching games with friends. It was earlier on Facebook but cannot seem to find it now, interesting.
I was going from info on a thread on Facebook that indicated an impacted wisdom tooth that got infected/abscessed; I know you have better information than I do and it is not my intent to argue one way or another, simply providing information I have based on my personal experience. Both of my left wisdom teeth were of this type and the two on the right side were fine but the dentist removed all four anyway; no more problems since then.
I had them, my kids had them, one of my grand kids just had it and WebMD has lots of information.
The most commonly impacted teeth are the back molars or wisdom teeth and they are always removed since they really serve no purpose and only create problems; many dentist will routinely remove them to prevent future problems. Now, if it’s a different tooth or teeth that might be different. Typically wisdom teeth cause problems for most people when they are 17-25 so it is likely that this is the issue.
If he start high fiveing with Walton we will know he was given the hard stuff.
Yep. Can’t give up that much space in the red zone, it is a recipe for disaster.
Unless there are complications all he will get is OTC pain killers. With the opiate epidemic doctors and dentists will not prescribe them unless absolutely necessary.
Unless they are serious complications, an impacted tooth removal is fairly straight forward and routine procedure with only local anesthetic. Relief is immediate and recovery very quick. I had two impacted wisdom teeth removed many moons ago and had immediate relief and in a couple of days could not tell a procedure had been done; procedures are considerably better now.
