I know, we are on the same page. At this point several players like Doke are flying well under the radar and just beginning to get noticed and others still living off their HS ranking. The final list will be quite different.

Entertaining games tonight. • Nov 30, 2017 07:45 PM

Indiana decided to play dead the last few minutes of the game and concede the game to Duke. Is Duke that good, that lucky or is there something else going on? Three in a row with similar endings.

@HawkChamp

Those teams had tall players but Syracuse is mostly tall players and it will be playing zone, something that Syracuse always does well.

@BeddieKU23

Syracuse is a tall team. Of their 8 players in the rotation only one is under 6'-5" and the rest are taller including 7'-2" Chukwu that is averaging 3 BPG. Curious to see how KU handles that much length.

Langford • Nov 30, 2017 06:36 PM

@Kcmatt7 @BeddieKU23

Way to early to tell how it will turn out. 5 Duke players in the first round including 4 in the top 16 and 3 lottery pick, UK 2 in first round and only 1 lottery pick...this is a switch and probably does not help the squid with his narrative.

Vick is first round but Svi, Devonte and Billy are second round but could play themselves into the first round, same with Malik and Doke that are not listed.

Your experience is wrong. Google “KU basketball Sosinski” and you will see this thread show up....with your post on lack of chemistry between two players which anyone that has followed the team knows is incorrect and now is all over the Internet.

I like Gordon Lightfoot...

@Crimsonorblue22

I used to catch 2 or 3 games a year but not recently. I do I have a close friend that has season tickets and I get periodic reports. He and his friends sit way up there in the same area and are upset with the points method that gets court side tickets to wealthy people that are not necessarily fans but think is cool to be seen at the games.

I have also watched just about every KU game on TV and it is not that difficult to see it who sits at court side. In comparison, look at the Duke games; all the court side tickets are taken by students.

I am not saying that it is right or wrong, lots of schools do it, I am just saying that KU is not that different than other schools. KU sells out every game and has great fans but a fair number of the ones sitting at court side are not necessarily, shall we say...enthusiastic?

@jayballer54

A good deal of the shots missed against UK were uncontested, open shots that KU usually makes. Remember that KU shot only 29% from the 3 against For Hays and I don't believe I would call them a top team. Some times teams are in the zone and sometimes they have the "yips," it happens.

Graham 30, Toledo 30 • Nov 29, 2017 06:01 PM

I did not say KU does not have a home court advantage, what I said is every major program has a home court advantage, some more that others but they all do, even smaller programs like KSU.

Now, when is the last time you have been to AFH? The entire lower tier/court side tickets are full of what Coach Williams used to call the "whine and cheese" crowd. These tickets are so expensive (require substantial 5 figure donations to the Williams fund) that most are corporate tickets. I have seen older people and couples with young kids that play video games the entire game and don't stand up or cheer much. Most major programs are the same way with the only exception being Duke where all the court side tickets are taken by students.

@HawkChamp

I agree. From what I have seen to date, KU’s A+ game is the best in college basketball. The question is how often will KU bring that or close to that game? It certainly did not against UK.

Graham 30, Toledo 30 • Nov 29, 2017 03:59 PM

@jayballer54

No question that the OAD combined with a weak schedule and a half decent football program is starting to hurt Kentucky. Once the better part of the schedule starts attendance will go up. KU has really not much competition from football and it is easier to sell out a 16,300 than a 23,500 capacity arena. Cameron will always sell out because its capacity is under 10,000.

In any case, even at the lesser level KU has 4,000 more fans per game than a sold out AFH. Like I said, KU is far from being the only team with a home advantage.

If KU moves the ball and shoots its average, it will blow the Syracuse zone to smithereens and Boeheim will go back home crying like a ~~little girl~~ younger person of unmentioned gender, race, ancestry, religion, political affiliation or legal status (corrected for the PC police).

Graham 30, Toledo 30 • Nov 29, 2017 03:10 PM

@Hawk8086

All the major programs tend to have an advantage at home and while AFH is at the top, it is by no means the only one that is loud; in our conference alone several schools such as ISU and KSU can be pretty loud. KU is only 8th in attendance in Division I.

Here is a list of the top 20.

Rank School G Attendance Average
1. Kentucky 17 398,850 23,461
2. Syracuse 21 444,809 21,181
3. Louisville 17 354,390 20,846
4. North Carolina 16 289,075 18,067
5. Creighton 17 296,013 17,412
6. Wisconsin 17 293,870 17,286
7. Maryland 18 299,306 16,628
8. Kansas 16 262,320 16,395
9. Indiana 18 294,549 16,363
10. North Carolina St. 18 286,322 15,906
11. Nebraska 16 246,832 15,427
12. Arkansas 18 274,446 15,247
13. Michigan St. 16 236,752 14,797
14. BYU 18 260,569 14,476
15. Arizona 16 230,560 14,410
16. Iowa St. 15 214,130 14,275
17. Virginia 16 227,922 14,245
18. Purdue 17 234,930 13,819
19. Marquette 17 233,169 13,715
20. Tennessee 16 218,190 13,636

As you can see, only ISU played less games at home (15) than KU who played 16. Syracuse, with the largest arena played 21 games at home and had 150K larger total attendance than KU and Kentucky averaged more than 7,000 fans per game than KU...talk about advantage.

Graham 30, Toledo 30 • Nov 29, 2017 03:43 AM

When KU shooters are in the zone like they were for this game there is no college team they cannot beat.

One thing that we can be fairly certain about is that the car in question was not obtained on the up and up. Had he or his mom bought the car with their own money, this issue would have been resolved in 5 minutes. The fact it is taking this long would appear to indicate serious issues that will likely result in some sort of penalty from the NCAA...don't need any inside information or friend of a friend to infer this much, right?

#2 and content • Nov 28, 2017 06:09 PM

Here is a story on ESPN ↗ by our old friend Myron Medcalf that rates the various conferences. No real national title contenders for the Big 12 other than Kansas but not a bad team either, solid top to bottom...hmm, where have I read that before?

#2 and content • Nov 28, 2017 06:04 PM

@BeddieKU23

Realistically, Duke had no business beating Texas and Florida, those team gave the the games away to Duke. I am sure Duke will be better down the stretch and it obviously has a lot of raw talent but it also has glaring weaknesses. Once you get past the 5 starters, performance drops quite a bit for the next 3 rotation players.

TRob is a tweener in the NBA, too small to score on the bigs inside and not good enough outside shooter to play SF. He is a very good rebounder though.

I don't believe we can compare Diallo and DeSouza. Diallo had very little experience playing basketball and a very lo basketball IQ; his athleticism was way above average but it could not compensate for the other shortcomings. Diallo was mostly about future potential and a less so on current, tangible skills. DeSouza has been playing longer and has a lot more experience having played for his National Team and has shown he has usable skill available now. I am confident he will catch on relatively quickly.

My comment was about a player that would still be in High School that lookes too old for even college, much like Oden did. LeBron is/was not part of that narrative since he went straight to the NBA.

Question for @mayjay • Nov 27, 2017 05:18 PM

Is this because if they admit guilt the Feds could come in with considerably more leverage and more severe penalties?

Billy • Nov 27, 2017 04:56 PM

@BeddieKU23

The NCAA provide High Schools extensive literature on rules and regulations and most HS have seminars for players (that will be moving to college) and their parent on what the rules are. Top prospects also visit with each other extensively at the Summer Circuit and are given compliance information by the programs that re recruiting them. It is really widely available and claiming ignorance is the equivalent of claiming not knowing smoking causes cancer.

A Proplexed KU team • Nov 27, 2017 04:46 PM

@BeddieKU23

Cunliffe has been in the system fior a year plus now and probably would contribute more initially, although he plays a position where depth is not an issue. Preston and DeSouza play positions where depth is sorely missing so they meet the more immediate need.

Billy • Nov 27, 2017 04:42 PM

@BeddieKU23

With the NCAA you never know. Of course it it would have been Duke, UNC or UK the issue would have been resolved by now with a slap on the wrist.

I believe that if Preston and family would have been forthcoming about the situation it would have been resolved one way or another by now. My guess is they tried to come up with plausible explanation and wasted time in the process.

I find it hard to believe that in this day and age, a top prospect and family would not be aware of what is or isn't permissible. Whatever happened had to be done knowing it was not on the up and up...so stupid.

KU vb • Nov 27, 2017 04:33 PM

On the positive side, KU has a better record on the road (9-3) than a home (8-4) and it is 5-0 at neutral sites. Currently ranked #19 by the NCAA RPI, WSU is #14, MU is #34 and Radford #60.

Billy • Nov 27, 2017 04:16 PM

Are you guys thinking that the games before then will be counted as part of an upcoming ruling from the NCAA with an X number of games suspension?

Holiday Hoops • Nov 27, 2017 04:13 PM

Think about it, Bagley was supposed to still be in High School...maybe as a teacher? He looks like he is at least in his mid 20s. Only other player I have seen that looked older was old man Oden.

Grimes is one fine player; however, he is so much taller and faster than the kids he is playing against that it is almost unfair; competition in college will be considerably better. Jacobs is also a very good player; 6 inches taller and he is a top 10 player.

Is the PK80 unethical garbage? • Nov 27, 2017 03:51 PM

If you want to talk about malfeasance, how about the contract KU signed with Time Warner Metro Sports that essentially tries to force fans to use them (or providers that subscribe to the channels) as your provider and blacks out the entire state for a bunch of games and in many sports, such as women's volleyball, the entire season? This should be sufficient for a fire for cause dismissal of Zenger.

Holiday Hoops • Nov 27, 2017 06:18 AM

@mayjay

My Sling ESPN runs 30-40 seconds behind so you are probably thinking of a different play. I was referring to the Duke player driving, shoving the defender out of the way and feeding Bagley for the score.

Holiday Hoops • Nov 27, 2017 05:59 AM

Duke just got away with an offensive foul under the Florida basket.

Holiday Hoops • Nov 27, 2017 05:52 AM

Bagley is a load inside but has missed a bunch of shots from right around the basket. With his height advantage he should be hitting at least 70% but he is under 50%.

Is the PK80 unethical garbage? • Nov 27, 2017 05:44 AM

Just like any other tournament, they can invite any team they want. The NCAA does not seem to have a problem with it. One of the benefits of being a Nike program; maybe Adidas will sponsor one in the future.
